We were really in the mood for a burger. After spending some time on Yelp, we set out to once again get the perfect burger. We had spent the day touring and Halifax was nearly a mile walk. All would be forgiven for a great burger. Halifax is a small restaurant with 3 booths and about 7 small tables. Their menu offers burgers with virtually every imaginable presentation. While many of the options looked appealing, we wanted to sample a burger/cheeseburger in its simplest form. Ordered medium rare-rare to allow for potential overcooking, our server asked us how rare we want them. This wasn't her first rodeo. As hoped, burgers were perfectly cooked and flavored. Obvious was the hand made patty vs. a frozen, pre made variety. Taste was fantastic, so fantastic I took smaller bites so it would last longer. We split an order of fries which tasted as if they were hand cut but if they weren't, I couldn't tell the difference. Just as good! Only strange thing was paying for ketchup. If I did the money exchange properly, about $4.00. Forgotten and forgiven everything was so good. Another great find! read more

I was wandering around Copenhagen aimlessly looking for something to eat that wouldn't break the bank, as everything in Copenhagen is so expensive... I was exhausted after a day of walking over 10 miles exploring and settled on a burger. I walked to a nearby burger place that had better reviews, but the place was a tiny hole in the wall with barely a place to sit, so I went over to Halifax instead. Apparently this place is part of a chain, but as an American, it's a chain I haven't heard of in the States, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did. The place is tad small, but I suppose that's not uncommon in Europe. The storefront is a single rectangle with the kitchen and service counter in the back. Along the two walls are bench seats, with tables set along the width of the room. This means that when you sit down at your table, if the place is packed then you will be dining in close proximity to other people. That makes it a tad difficult to have a conversation with a date, but I was dining alone and I didn't mind. Staff was helpful and courteous. I ordered a burger that seemed to my liking. A side of onion rings or fries are extra, as is dipping sauce. I suppose that's one way to do it, but I'm accustomed to everything being included in a single price as we do in America. Oh well. I couldn't decide on what to drink but the server sold me on Faxe Kondi, which is apparently the Danish equivalent of Sprite. I gave it a try and liked it. My burger was tasty and well cooked. I ordered onion rings and liked those as well. I'm glad I tried a Faxe Kondi, as it actually is better than Sprite. After I finished, I had nowhere to go and sat for awhile longer. Even though the restaurant was packed (and quite loud with all the conversations going on) the staff didn't rush me and let me sit there hiding from the cold while I played on my phone. Halifax is the place if you want some of the best burgers in Copenhagen. I've visited a few times and the experience has been consistently good. The Liverpool (their version of a Hangover Burger with egg and bacon) is the one. They will ask for how you want it cooked and get it right. I used to life in Copenhagen many years ago and Halifax was my go to place for some great Burgers and Beers. They use fresh, organic meat for all their burgers and you can of course decide how you want your meat cooked. The good thing is that they actually get you a medium rare burger if that's what you order. I also love how you can get goat cheese added and many other things. Everything is super fresh and the burgers are juicy. They also have great vegan and vegetarian options that taste well. The real beauty of Halifax is that they allow you to customize every aspect of your burger. Whatever your taste buds desire, you can create a tailor-made marvel to appease them. Choose your bun, patty type (beef, chicken or veggie, different sizes available), choose the fillings (ranging from classic New York Style, a Texan twist with onion rings and BBQ sauce, a Swiss Sensation with a rosti instead of a bun etc.) and even add extra ones to make it truly your own (bacon, guacamole and blue cheese to name a few ingredients). Still not satisfied, then how about add some tasty sides, ranging from different types of fries, salads, onion rings and chicken wings. I had read or heard that Copenhagen is the midst of a burger craze. And of course I traveled across the Atlantic to partake in the burger festival. Reading about how crazy busy this place can get, we arrived early but even at 6:00 the place was jam packed. But our hostess assured us that the tables turned quickly and that since we were the only ones waiting that we should be seated within 15 minutes. And true to her word a table for two opened up and were ready for our burger night. The ordering process is pretty clear. Choose your burger (meat or vegetarian and size), bun (wheat or classic white), dipping sauce and your side. Halifax (unless otherwise requested) cooks all their burgers well-done but I made sure to ask my server to cook mine to rare. For my first time, I went traditional and went with the classic cheese burger on white with fries and aioli. The burger arrived a short time later and perfectly cooked to rare (just like I wanted). I was tempted to pick up my burger and take a huge bite, but looking around the dining room I noticed that burgers here are consumed slightly different than back home in the US. Everyone uses a knife and fork. Ok, when in Rome! So not wanting to stand out I did the same. I must say, I did rather enjoy the knife and fork experience and it actually makes the burger last even longer mmmmm. Which by the way, the burger was delicious. The beer offerings are excellent, but the wine choices probably needs some work. The service (considering it's just a casual burger place) is pretty good. I did notice that after we arrived the wait time for a table increased substantially. So if you plan on paying a visit, be sure to arrive early otherwise be prepared to wait. Admittedly, I have only ever tried The Liverpool (despite being lured in by other menu items, it's difficult for me to deny bacon AND eggs on my burger patty), but my friends tell me the other burgers here are all fabs. Fries are killer, and if you're opting for a low carb option, they do not skimp on the salad (read: it's huge) Consistently reliable quality at all the Halifax restaurants (have been to Frederiksberg, Østerbro, and Centrum restaurants) and haven't been disappointed yet. It's like I stepped right out of Williamsburg and into this amazing burger joint. While the burgers are obviously American-inspired, this is a Danish creation from start to finish. The little touches are what make Halifax unique and fun; the logo and noir wall art, the Wes Anderson quotes and the actual menu itself. Some fantastic creativity at work here. But how are the burgers? SO GOOD. Although they default to well done, bless them for searing a rare thing of beauty. The Nakskov, with cheddar, bacon, fried onions, crispy fried pickles and remoulade damn near killed me. It's huge, but so so good. The thick cut fries ain't no joke either; with a side dipping sauce they're maddeningly tasty. The only problem? How anyone finishes anything here without walking out in imminent danger of birthing an afternoon-ending food baby. I couldn't eat the rest of the day. Burgers are 120-140kr ($17-20 USD) which would be crazy expensive in the states, but is just about normal for Copenhagen. I've seen other burger joints with ~100kr burgers, but I can't attest to their quality. Danish hipsters rule. read more

I love the Halifax burger chain in Copenhagen. I reckon this was probably my 4th visit to this. Particular branch so i cannot explain why I haven't reviewed it before. First the service - Our waiter was excellent and went above and beyond to keep us happy, including giving us the option, which we took, to move to a nicer table after we had ordered. My burger was even better than i remembered their burgers being. I went for the one with the Mexican name, being a sucker for the jalapenos. I really like the new brown buns that are now an option when building your burger. I would recommend the chipotle sauce. They have their own beers which i seem to remember from previous visits are ok, but didn't especially grab my taste buds by the papillae!. The AZ Ale No.16 was more forceful with me and is definitely a positive addition. The cartoon worm eating its way out of a 'living' cartoon cow's' head (in a chefs hat!) While proclaiming. The burger was very nice. The fries were good and the sauce was fine. So, why one star... "Hmm.....Jeg har prøvet bedre" would be too good and it is not the fault of Halifax directly. They use roomservice.dk for delivery, I ordered. I waited two hours. I called roomservice.dk and was hung up on before speaking. I called again and was hung up on before speaking, then my wife called and fared no better. The food arrived three hours after the order and was delicious, but cold. This is a service on their website and roomservice.dk are letting the place down very badly. And we do love burgers :-) I was a bit disappointed whenwe entered the restaurant as I had expected something else than a worn down post-sportsbar with sticky tables. The service was however really good and our waitress attended us frequently although she was alone in the restaurant the entire time we were there. Therer were a lot of burgers to choose from and I went for the normal burger with fries while my friends had the one with goat cheese. The burgers were really good, not fantastic but really good. My search for the perfect gluten free burger brought me to one of Copenhagen's nicest - Halifax in Larsbjørnsstræde. My mum and I arrived here at 8 pm, and the place was of course filled up with lots of happy people enjoying their burgers. The waitress, who was super nice and name was also Therese (that's something isn't it?) offered us a 20 minute wait for a table. We ended up accepting is and went for a little walk in the meantime. About 20 minutes later Therese called me and had our table ready. We were so hungry and excited! The menus arrived and the deal is simple - first choose a destination (burger style), then choose a bun, a patty, some sides and sauce, and extra toppings if you want. Some for an extra price, but overall very much was included in the original deal. I really liked it! Normally when I ask for something extra or different about a meal, I feel stupid and annoying. At Halifax this is the normal. Love it! They don't have gluten free buns at Halifax, but for me that doesn't matter as long as you can order a burger with a salad bun. I actually think that's even better sometimes. Our burgers arrived after maybe 10 minutes and was so delicious. This is truly one of the best burgers I've had, and I fear that I will be dreaming of it way too often than i have the money to to go back there from Norway. The meat was super tender and perfectly salted, the sweet potato fries crispy and soft inside (ergo really fresh), and the aioli was just to die for. I tasted the coleslaw my mum ordered as well and it was super. The burger places in Oslo really needs to learn from this place! I will be back. Sooner than later probably. read more

To be honest, I really wanted to go with a healthy dinner and was headed for Atlas Bar, but unfortunately they didn't have any availability (they never do), so my friend and I caved in to hunger and went for a Halifax burger. I ordered the Copenhagen burger on a dark bun, vegetarian beef (peas) and chunky fries with chipotle mayo. I was a bit sceptical as to how they would perform on the vegetarian burger, but I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. The vegetable patty was juicy and delicious, really a good substitute if you don't care for beef. The fries are crunchy and there is basically an abundance of food - I would be surprised if anyone walked out hungry, at least I've never managed to finish my portions. The food is reasonably priced and the staff really friendly and service minded, so I can't see any reason why this shouldn't be one of my favourite burger joints in Copenhagen. read more

A greasy mess. I ordered the chickpea burger while my mother went for the regular one (but with blue cheese instead of cheddar). All I can say in both cases is that the food was a flavourless, greasy mess. Mine was simply bland while my mother's burger smelled bad, and the slice of blue cheese was so thin as to be almost invisible. The fries were literally dripping in fat.... oh no. The sauce (chipotle) was mediocre, being little more than mayo with a bit of low-grade chipotle mixed in. I was charged 5kr for tap water, too! Generally overpriced. I know this sort of food (and this grade) is really popular in Denmark, and all northern European countries for that matter. But if you want a good burger then at least go somewhere nice. Halvandet (in the summer), that place on Istedgade whose name I've forgotten, or Cocks and Cows (despite their greasy thin fries) are both miles ahead of this overrated chain. read more

One of my favorite burger spots i CPH. I Simply love this place, when I am craving for a burger, this is where I go. They have a lot of different variations of burgers and you can mix and match the ingredients and the fries and the dipping sauce. The only downside is you cant reserve a table, but you have to wait in a line to get one, and the time can be from 15 min to 2 hrs. But I always feel its worth the wait. read more

I'm writing this from a tourist perspective :) For a start, know that the staff is really super nice. First thing I noticed was the smiles and the joyfulness. We had to wait a little because the restaurant was full, and they offered to wait there or to call us when a place would be available. It took five minutes before we could have a seat. They are also fully bilingual, and they take time to explain how the menu works. So it works in five steps, you first chose the style of burger you want (mainly, what you want in it). Then you choose your bun, your meat (or non meat, there are vegan options), then your fries (or salad) and finally the dip for the fries. I had the Palermo burger with beef and fries. The meal was ready in a few minutes, very quick service. The burger was awesome and quite big. Fries were good. Honestly I was quite satisfied with the meal, it's exactly what I wanted / needed. It's a little pricy, but as is almost everything in Copenhagen. It's still totally worth it. And you won't have this kind of service elsewhere. I recommend this place to any tourist who craves a real good burger. read more

I can only agree with the other Scottish reviews. This place is great and the staff are truly super nice. The place was full and we were starving, the waiter offered to phone us to our UK mobiles no problem so we went to the next door bar (The living room) to wait. Half an hour later we were back and the burgers were ordered. Great options, they had two types of veggie burgers! They were so tasty, I did feel like I couldn't move afterwards so yes, the portions are big. Good prices too. read more
