WARNING! DO. NOT. WASTE. YOUR. TIME. NOR. MONEY. My sister and I were poorly serviced at this place today. We went because of its convenience and the posh branding on the website that lured us to the address. I walked into an 8x10 size of disappointment and charmless staff. I hesitated to sit for service...& despite the false website advertisement ....I decided to stay after seeing a familiar nail tech from a different nail salon I've patronized repeatedly...(so this place can't be all that bad....right?) WRONG! We came for a pedicure at 3pm, at that time there were only 2 other guests. Of note, the #coatrooom is #unsightly and #dingy to say the least(polar opposite of the website). It started with the nail tech not allowing me to soak my feet in the water more than the 10 seconds. Everything else was a complete rush job that led to the following: 1. Mud mask residue on my ankle that I noticed walking out the door ( receptionist had to bring a towel to the entrance to clean the smudge) 2. Dead skin left peeling on the heels of my feet because they were not properly scrubbed or serviced with technique. My Spa Pedicure lasted a total of 15minutes - max. When questioned why I couldn't soak longer for better Scrub results. The "nail tech" said ,"You don't need it".But lady . .. "I'm paying for it and I want to soak longer". She smiled and continued to finish rubbing a mud mask on. I didn't want to ruin my day by refusing to pay; however, sitting down for service in that sham of a nail salon with those unskilled "nail techs" was a horrible decision. I even gave the front desk person $2 bucks for bringing a towel to the door to remove the leftover mud mask from my ankle. My sister's experience was even worse. We will not only never visit this place again . We will be sure to warn our friends and family members to stay away from the brand called Coatroom. My feet started off in better condition. Now I have grated heels and smeared toe polish. It would be wise if management reached out. #TheDingyRoom read more

I gave them a shot after a $10 off coupon It's a weird experience, you have to tell them what you want ahead of time and there's really no room to change your mind Their tower of polish is sectioned off by brand and not color, which is different, but not ideal for when you're looking for the perfect shade The paint job wasn't bad, in fact it was clean and I thought was some of the best I've seen in Arlington. But I got gel on my nails and they peeled off within a couple of days... The manicure itself wasn't very impressive either, I did just get the standard one, but when my hands don't "feel" clean before I leave, so it's not something I'll come back for Best to stick to Hollywood Nails, they give out free paraffin over there, though not as clean or trendy as Coatroom I guess it's just about preferences in the end. And I'm most concerned with a gel mani lasting more than a week, than I am with ambiance read more

First time here I came based on yelp reviews though I do know that there was many negative reviews I thought I'd give it a try. It is a super cute salon and I had Kim do my nails. She did super good and I love how they turned out!! I got a gel mani and even got 20% off because they have a promo all of Jan due to switching to a new management or smth. I would def recommend coming here and get Kim if she's available! read more

Coatroom is a 21st century nail salon. In a neighborhood that's got a crazy number of nail salons, Coatroom is head and shoulders above the competition. Pros: It's spotless- for those who are hyper-sensitive to nail-salon phobias, this place ranks up there with "cleanliness is godliness." Even the foot baths are lined in plastic so you don't need to wonder about germs from someone else's foot soak. uber chic- the clean white decor, tasteful geometric tiles and pops of copper coat hangers (nice play on the theme), white seating, streamlined lights and lamps, pink okay pillows and accent colors of navy, pink and yellow keep Coatroom fresh, minimal, and fun. Excellent service- The team is talented, dressed chicly in all black, and they are very good at their craft. No skimping here on coats- I got 3 quality coats on my fingertips and pro attention to my cuticles etc. they are focused on service, not super chatty and disengaged as some technicians at other salons can be. Feels good- like they're focused on you! The best products- I'm hard pressed to find another NoVA salon that boasts body friendly formulas in the best colors by Deborah Lippmann & Zoya. They have an excellent selection, wide variety of tones and colors, and it's fresh- no nasty half full bottles here. For fun- They have witty, cheeky street signage (see pics) and a lil newspaper with their offerings- the Coatroom. The only reasons I'm giving 4/5 stars-none are deal breakers 1. They only offer water, which, given the price of services, location, and competition, could be improved upon. Coffee, tea, and wine are appropriate offerings and in line with most other NoVA salons. 2. Parking SUCKS in this particular part of Ballston- either steep prices in ramps or very few street spots which are metered and hard to come by. 3. Pricing is a tiny bit steep- just paid $76 for a gel mani and pedi plus tip. Would like some early afternoon deals or promos for regular customers. I'll be back! read more

I am a huge fan of Coatroom! I've been three or four times now (I've only ever gotten gel manicures) and I love it. The prices are about average, but my nail artist always takes time to do a great job and pay attention to detail. Monday through Wednesday they do gel manicures for $25 which is a great deal to take advantage of. read more

My first time at Coatroom was yesterday! I drove 30 min from Alexandria to Arlington just to see Wanda (who happens to be the brand new owner of Coatroom as of the last month or so). Wanda's been doing my nails for ~6 months now. She is up to date on all the nail trends and incredibly talented - her skill and level of detail is extremely hard to find (especially in the suburbs). I had been extremely disappointed with most salons in my area until I found her which is why I am so excited to see her in a new spot with access to even more customers. I am looking forward to seeing her mentor her employees. She's incredible and I will continue to drive to see her! See all my nails below (my nails appeared on Disney's instagram). read more

Not a great place for the nail biz. I got a gel manicure and my nails are all slanted. It's a typical issue when someone else is filing your nails and can't see the angles well. I absolutely LOVE Coatroom. I live right in the area (about 4 blocks away) and it is by far the best nail salon I have found around here (or anywhere for that matter). I recently moved to the DC area and tried this place out based on convenience. I was very, very pleased. The prices are very reasonable, the salon is clean and doesn't have a typical, acetone smell to it like some other places. They've got a great color selection and the nail technicians are very nice. A bit on the slower side, but they take their time and do a great job. Overall, very happy with my experience. read more

So sad... since I got my nails done, 3 of them have just broken. Wasn't doing anything just looked down and all of a sudden the tip is off. They charge 3$ per nail to fix. Imo, if I get acrylics they should not be breaking unless I accidentally slam my hand into something or whatever. Very disappointed. read more

I went to this nail studio on July 4th. I got SNS dip for $55. The experience went fine - the nails looked great when I left. However, not even 3 days later I had the first nail pop off. Over the next few days I had another 4 come off and and a few others that looked like they were about to come up. SNS is supposed to last for atleast 4 weeks - they didn't even last 4 days. I went back the next Saturday and explained what happened and they sat me down to redo them. They only redid the 5 nails that had fallen off - and because the nail had fallen off the nails had broke and were all noticeably shorter than the others - she didn't offer to put tips on to even it out more did she ask what shape nail I wanted. I now have 5 long square nails and 5 round short nails. When she was done, I was going to tip her anyways and instead she ended up charging me $5 for every nail she redid. Had I known this, I would NOT have sat down to get them re-done. That was on Saturday and it is now Wednesday and another of the original nails have fallen off. I am now out $90 for shitty nails. Do not go here. There are plenty of other places in ballston that cost the same price and are way better. read more

I've had a really positive experience both times I've been here. The first time I had a Groupon (dip powder mani) and got Hana as my manicurist. I forgot to take pictures but she did a great job and actually listened to me when I told her what shape I wanted. Most nail salons I've been too say "okay we'll give you an almond shape" and it ends up being wide and square looking. The second time I went I got Molly and she was awesome as well. In addition to doing a great job shaping, she had me in and out in under and hour (including taking off my old dip powder). While I was there, another woman had miscalculated her math and accidentally tipped a very large amount. The technician brought her money back to her and told her that she overtipped - I thought that was really great and honest customer service. Their prices seem to be very fair for the area. I'll definitely be a regular customer read more

I read the reviews after dropping in for a pedicure, so I wondered if I made a mistake. It was a good pedicure. They fit me right into the schedule. The pumice and scrub parts were short, but the massage was a decent length. The polish job was good. There are techs sitting around in pedicure chairs on the phone, but it didn't bother me. The only thing I objected to was that the technician wanted to rush me off the pedicure station seat after literally two minutes, and quickly removed the toe spacers when my nails were still totally wet. The salon was empty, so I asked to just sit for a while. She seemed a resistant but allowed me to stay. Not sure this salon would be on the top of my list, but I had a better experience than most. read more

I went with friends for a post-covid treat with the girls. The two of us who had exactly the same services had an $8 difference in charges?! When I asked about threading saying that I CANNOT do waxing, only threading, the lady told me that she could do my eyebrows... I said "no wax" the lady repeated back "no wax" so I decided to do it. I went back and before I noticed, the lady began WAXING my eyebrows - at this point it was futile to have her stop part way (but now I have a separate line of bumps above and below my brow as I react to wax.) Seperately, of my friends had her toes done and we went to lunch - 2hrs later after pedicure and lunch she bumped foot on the sidewalk and an entire toe of polish wiped off?! As we walked by, I asked if she wanted to go ask to have it fixed, but we agreed that it isn't worth the stress. None of us will go back again. Side note: the leg massage was a nice treat but not worth the rest of the stress. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. This place caused me such pain that I am still trying to recover from over a WEEK after having gone. I went in for acrylic removal and I was going to get a manicure too, they left me sitting for a full hour with my hands in a bowl of pure acetone, which caused my skin to dry to the point of cracking and now I think is not infected but it hurts like hell and could have easily gotten infected. It's so embarrassing I won't even post a picture, but my skin is so dry on my fingers it just feels ruined, meanwhile they charged me for a full manicure and expected a tip which I reluctantly gave because I was so confused and disoriented about this whole service that they offered me? I could've stayed home and properly taken off my nails with cotton balls and tinfoil, it would've taken way longer to do it myself but, I think it's crazy they barely paid me any attention and wasted my time and then they charged me for the manicure that I ended up sort of canceling . Something like $25? Now my hands hurt so badly that I can't even go get a manicure somewhere else until they heal. And I am a bartender, so I need the use of my fingers and would really prefer that they not sting constantly while I work- I now have to wear countless pairs of gloves every day at work which is just a burden. I really wanted to let this go, but it's bothering me every day and it's been over a week. I'm not going to dispute the charge or request my money back - honestly I didn't realize the overcharge until later because I was in such a frustrated mindset when I signed the receipt. I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible, their service was that bad. I just want to caution people from going here. It was an absolutely terrible experience. Thanks for reading. read more

I've gone here a few times over my lunch hour for manicures and pedicures just because it's the closest nail salon to my work where I can make reservations online. I do like that I can easily get a pedicure over my lunch hour (takes about 40 min from start to finish) and not have to worry about being there for too long. Each time I go, it's kind of a "gets the job done" kind of thing. It's not high end and high quality, but you'll walk out of the salon with a fresh mani/pedi. Unfortunately, their prices are a bit higher than I'd like because I could get a much higher quality service elsewhere. This last time, I went to get a pedicure, and it turned out fine. The color looks nice and she cleaned up my nails quite a bit. However, I had to ask the nail tech to work on my callouses a bit more because she took the pumice stone to my feet for about 15 seconds...not really enough to do anything. She was more thorough after I asked her to be, but I usually don't have to ask at other places. It's just expected to be part of the standard service. I also left the salon with a lot of extra polish on my skin around the nail. It's not a big deal, but, again, I could pay less money elsewhere for that not to happen. I'll likely go back because it's a decent mani/pedi and is conveniently located, but it wouldn't otherwise be my first choice. read more

I have been going to coatroom consistently over the last 3 months and loving every gel manicure I've received, most last for 3 weeks. However I went last week and it lasted only 4 days, I get it it can be a fluke, the 2 stars isn't for that. The two stars is for the service. Unfortunately, every time I come here (4 times total), I leave disappointed. None of the technicians seem to care or listen to your requests. Also, don't get a pedicure here because there are no massage chairs. If you get Nina, your nails are amazing and she pays attention. Anyone else and your nails are subpar. Gel manicures peel within a week (mine started cracking and peeling after 5 days?!?!). I've had 2 different techs cut me to the point I bleed. One cut turned bright red for a few days so I'm assuming a small infection (cleared up on its own but come on). With several nail salon options in Ballston/VA Square/Clarendon area, I've been making the rounds to find the ins and outs of each. Pros: coatroom has been promoting via coupons in the mail. I found out about coatroom from their promotions both in mail and online. The coupon was the extra incentive I needed to get in. The coupon I used was for a gel manicure, regularly priced at $35-39, the coupon brought the price down to $29! Great deal! The location is convenient to walk from Ballston or VA square. Maybe the most important pro-- thank you for having a reward program. With frequent stops, the program can help you recoup some of the costs to maintaining your nails. Lastly, The front desk staff was very accommodating! I had made an appointment but arrived thirty minutes early due to my personal schedule changing. I was told that my technician would not be ready until my scheduled time but offered another technician. She also helped me locate a specific color and gave me tips on how the color has changed after being re-released. The only complaint is that my gel manicure didn't come out completely smooth. Although so far they seems to be holding up well and looks beautiful. I'll be back in to try out a few other technicians to see if I can get a smoother result while taking advantage of the rewards/discounts! read more

DO NOT GO HERE Technicians are racists!!!! Manicure was very sub-par. Technicians didn't realize I spoke Vietnamese as well and heard them saying racist things about my friends in Vietnamese. Very rude. Took my interns here to get manicures. Called a couple of weeks later to get a receipt for a corporate expense submission. Manager said he would give me a receipt and never did. I threatened to leave a bad review and he didn't care. Refused to give me a receipt and abruptly and rudely hung up on me. Go to Modern Nail Bar on Clarendon Blvd instead. Worst experience ever!! Nobody understood a single word of English, the service was horrible, she interrupted my service for another client coming at the time, my appointment was initially scheduled, that she has rescheduled the day before to obviously do two clients at a time. After I told the nail lady she should redo the nails, because the quality was the worst I have ever seen, she rubbed off the nail polish (dipping powder nails) and kicked me out of the salon (after demanding another 10$ for "removing" the nails) read more

I have since come back to coatroom a few times since my first review. One thing that has been consistent is how unfriendly the receptionist is. Every time I've gone in she has seemed miserable and almost as if you are bothering her. Another thing I've noticed since going back is that none of their colors actually match the tester wheels. You literally have to open up the bottles to see the actual color of the paint which is extremely inconvenient and time consuming. read more

The location is good... but once you get in, they rush you to pick a color and there are only 2 rings of off brand gel nail colors to pick from. The various others and OPI ones are on the wall and you have to go look at the bottles which is difficult when they want to hurry and get you started. The nail techs are hit or miss. Last time, Tracy did my nails and she was great but other times I have had them file all different shapes on my nails, make my cuticles bleed and miss entire sections with the paint. This time I tried to use the voucher in the Yelp profile ($29 for gel manicure + parafin wax) and the girls had no idea what it was. I offered to speak to the manager or owner and he was trying not to honor it, kept trying to talk over me and saying things like, "people can put anything on the internet." Yes, they can but they can't put coupons for your business on your Yelp page. So while the nail service is sometimes good, it is mostly stressful. read more

I generally am very pleased with my services here, I do believe they are a bit overpriced. $19 for an eyebrow wax is BEYOND ridiculous. I just come here strictly for gel manicures, I like their wide variety of colors and the gel lasts a pretty long time. I wish they had massage chairs for pedicures...that's one of the main reasons for even getting a pedicure (am I right?!) I really like their rewards program that gives discounts to frequent customers. Overall. Coatroom does a nice job. UPDATE: Coatroom has lowered their prices on eyebrow waxing to $12!
