I went as a walk in to get SNS and a pedicure...the pedicure was nothing impressive but it got the job done. As she was doing the SNS I kept saying how the color didn't look right and noticed that she didn't do it the same way I was used to, but hey...maybe this way is better...this was on Monday...it's now Friday and 3 of my SNS have popped off completely...it was $45 and definitely it worth it! The other nails also look pretty shabby for something that is supposed to last 3 weeks. I'm so disappointed. Update** I went back and a different lady did my nails and they lasted 3 weeks with only one chip. She didn't seem to thrilled to be re-doing them and wasn't great at clean up but they did at least last a while. I've been a third time just to try again and a 3rd lady did my nails. She did a nice job. The color I chose looked nothing like the powder and she tried to fix it. They've lasted this time as well. read more

I recently received an email stating I had a 20% discount for my next service at "Coatroom/Milan Nails". I have never visited Milan nails but frequented Coatroom when I lived in Arlington. I went in & got a gel mani & standard pedi. When I was paying for my service I was told the discount was "only for Milan Nails". Nowhere in the email does it state that. In fact, it specifically states "Coatroom/Milan Nails". When I put my number into the iPad for the rewards program AGAIN I was prompted with a screen that said I had 20% off my service. This time it only said "Coatroom". Still, the women at the desk were arguing with me, telling me I was wrong & the discount was only for Milan nails. I paid full price for my service & emailed the owner of the salon over a week ago & have not received a reply. I did not ask for a full refund, I simply want 20% of my service credited to my card. There are far too many nail salons in Arlington to deal with Coatroom's incompetence. Look elsewhere! read more

I tried this place out because it looked very inviting from the street and I didn't have enough time to go to my normal place. I asked for a full set with gel nail polish. My girl did not speak English and I had to tell her multiple times to fix each nail that were uneven from the other ones. She was extremely distracted by anyone else that came in and hardly paid attention to my nails. She missed spots on my nail when painting them and the gel chipped off the next day. The only reason I'm not giving this place one star is because the ambiance of the location is nice and very cute and modern. Just wish the service matched the environment. read more

Coatroom - This was one day after getting my nails done. Chipped and unfinished. - Waxing Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

Look, in the end -- my nails look fine. Nobody died. The price was reasonable. But I've never had an SNS manicure where the nails had to be redone so many times, and the layers ended up uneven and kind of lumpy. Whenever a spot didn't come out of the powder properly "stuck," the lady would coat just that part of the nail and re-dip. Also, it took FOREVER -- like, almost two hours. At one point, I felt like I was probably just going to live the rest of my life in that chair. Like I said, nothing happened that was the end of the world. I needed to kill some time while I waited for something from CVS across the street, so I gave Coatroom a shot. It's in my neighborhood and I was intrigued for a long time. But with Aura Day Spa just 4-5 blocks away and so, SO much better, I will not be going back to Coatroom again. read more

First of all, don't be fooled by the recent 5 star reviews, they are largely due to the salon soliciting reviews for $10 off your service!! This was the single worst nail appointment I've ever had. They were over 30 minutes behind on getting to my appointment and another girl waited over an hour for her appointment before walking out. The technician kept hitting my finger with the drill and it was the sloppiest SNS manicure I've ever had. I cannot stress enough how terrible this experience was. 24 hours later and my SNS has literally been chipping and peeling off so much that I'm going somewhere else to get the only 3 remaining nails with dip on them taken off and redone. Such a waste of time and money. read more

I just went to Coatroom Nails today and I'm really happy for the service that I received. I've been having some trouble finding a good nail salon in the Arlington, Metro-accessible area. My nail technician was named Cindy, and she used a lot of care to diligently file, shape, and smooth my nails so that they looked great before the gel polish went on. Then, when the polish went on, she carefully ensured that the nail was evenly covered in just the right amount of polish. Throughout the whole process, she was very kind and accommodating, so I'm very happy with the experience. Thank you, Cindy! :) read more

Very clean salon and great service, except the manicurist sometimes drilled into my cuticle and skin. It was my first time there so I figured I'd give it a shot with a full set of glitter dipping powder manicure. I understand the glitter mani/pedi tends to be a bit tricky so I won't complain about it. However, my manicure began to lift and the top coat cracked slightly after the fifth-sixth day. read more

I came in at 5:20p on a Thursday for a basic pedicure. The pedicure itself was fine but the service left a little to be desired. The woman doing my toes kept stabbing them with the tools she was using as if she thought they were going to jump off my feet and attack her. About 15 minutes into my service, a woman came in with her mom and screamed, "I MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TWO!" as if we were supposed to take out an article in the Post. You didn't cure cancer. You made an appointment. But congrats, I guess. Anyway. There were four people in the pedicure chairs. Three of whom were already being painted. Apparently yelling, "I made an appointment for two!" in a vaguely disappointed screech is the "I want to see a manager!" of the nail salon world. Because the woman doing my pedicure went into turbo mode to get me out of the chair. My toes look like a child's paint by numbers book where they forgot that lines are there for a reason. She went so fast that she forgot to even slather on some lotion...which is the thing that made me so mad that I just had to write a review. I won't be back. read more

One of the worse SNS dipping jobs I have had. Literally less than 24 hours after my manicure, my top coat started chipping away. I did my nails, boarded a plane to the UK for work (so not chipped due to household chores etc. But due to poor service and technique) and saw my top coat chipping away while on my flight. It's a nice chic place but the poor technique and service is a terrible shame. read more

First timers review: Greeting: mediocre The host was less than enthusiastic when we walked in. There was no greeting. For a minute, I thought she was going to turn us away. Manicure: mediocre The technician was quiet and there was little engagement. While I am not necessarily a chatterbox, at least a greeting would have been nice. The first thing she said to me was half-way through the process "go wash your hands". She worked super fast which is good and bad. The color I picked (gel) was a pink and needed clear/concise coverage of the nail or there would be streaks. I don't know if it was old or the color. I had to ask her to do a 3rd coat. Overall Experience: Meh I will probably not return. The price was about average for NoVA ($35). I didn't feel welcome. It was a very dry experience. My nails are flawed. There are two nails that look ugly. One nail was not covered properly by the top coat and the other nail has lint or dust in it. The world isn't ending but I'd rather go elsewhere where the ambience is more welcoming. read more

Went here to get my nails done earlier this week. The girl did a decent job on the manicure itself and the shop is cute. What got me is the cleanliness. The girl took the tools out of one of those medical sealed bags and the rubber stoppers on everything were clearly super dirty. Looked like they put them in a used bag to make it seem like they were clean when they weren't..... not really sure what was going on there. read more

Let me preface my review by saying that the ladies of the salon are very nice and did not once make me feel uncomfortable. Their customer service, although good, cannot make up for the terrible job however. I paid over $30 for a gel mani that looks like a bad paint job. I can't even take it off because it's gel and, again, I paid for it. If I didn't have an appointment immediately following y visit I would have asked the technician to fix it. Even so, the job was....really not good. Also, my hands smelled bad for the rest of the day. I'm not sure if it was the gel polish or what, but it was a little embarrassing how permeating the smell was even after washing my hands and using antibacterial several times throughout the day. I don't know if that's enough to never try them again, but I am very disappointed with my mani for what I was charged. read more

Really impressed with this place! First off, when I made the appointment for both me and my sister, they asked for both of our names, which I thought showed a commitment to really being available. Don't you hate when you make an appointment, and then when you get there, you feel like you're treated as a walk-in? Not at the coatroom. My sister is notoriously indecisive. Her manicurist tried several polishes on her and never lost patience as she hemmed and hawed about which direction to choose. I said I wanted black tips on my french manicure, and my manicurist -without prompting- gave me the choice between a black creme and an iridescent black color. She also suggested sparkles to cover it at the close of the manicure, and wasn't annoyed when after a test paint, I decided "no go" (could've meant repainting a gel nail, though thankfully was an easier fix). It's CLEAN. They didn't man-handle my cuticles. And the customer service was great. Besides the little cookies my regular nail salon offers, everything about my experience at coatroom was not just on par, but ever-so-slightly BETTER. I will definitely be going back to them next time. That said, parking in Ballston is horrific, so one star docked for accessibility. ;) read more

This is the worst mani pedi I ever had in my life, Luke warm water to soak my feet which only took 10 min to finish my feet, scrub was less than 1 min job for both legs and scrubbing feet took another 1 min. Needless to say that I had to redo my feet myself. This place is good if you don't care quality ... you'll spend more time drying nail polish than actual procedure. read more

I wanted to like Coatroom as it's walking distance for me. As I walked in I wasn't greeted, I was told by the lady in the front to go pick out a color. They have a huge nail polish tower with a vast amount of colors you can choose from. The nail technician who did my gel nails was very inattentive and on the phone talking in her air pods for part of the duration as she was painting my nails. She seemed like she just wanted to get the job done with out caring about the precision in her work. The sides of my nails were missing color and typically you get a little hand massage after the manicure. Rather she just slapped on some lotion and called it a day. Additionally, my nail polish didn't dry all the way so it got messed up. Normally, you get a few more minutes in the UV light to ensure it's dry. It was an uneventful and disappointing experience. read more

Ouch.. got a Groupon here but will probably never come back. Hard to find.. it's actually on Washington blvd not Randolph, which i discovered after walking back and forth a few times. But the main issue is the construction going on. It's absolutely deafening!! I wish I could post a video.. I took one to send to my friends because it's honestly laughable. They were drilling or hammering the ENTIRE hour and a half I was there. Nails are okay, but definitely not worth the headache I left with. read more

As a graduate from the School of Elle Woods, I learned that a manicure can solve any problem or bad day. I'm in the last few weeks of my pregnancy and the anxiousness of delivering a baby through a small hole in my body is starting to take it's toll on me. Enter Coatroom! As soon as I walked in, I felt all of my nervousness rush away. This place is feminine, girly and spotless. I did not detect any of the tell tale chemical scents that usually leave me dry heaving after every single nail appointment. They have a giant tower of nail polish colors to choose from including Five-Free polishes that are void of all of the chemicals I usually avoid. Since I was a walk in, I had to wait approximately 45 minutes to get a polish change (next time I'll make an appointment online which seems quick and easy to do). No worries, I was able to relax and read magazines in the meantime. My technician was polite, quick and efficient. She offered me water (unfortunately no fun cocktails or drinks here but that's completely fine with me) and mints and was thorough with her application. My only complaint is it looks like that the topcoat and basecoat were not Five Free since it smelled really strong when opened. Pricing is $45 for a mani and pedi which is exactly half the price I paid for a similar service last week. I'm definitely looking forward to my next appointment! read more

My roommate and I just moved to the area and we're looking for a place to get our nails done now that we live here. This is THE place!! the staff were fantastic, listened to us and were able to create designs that matched the photos we showed, as well as took their time to make sure that we were happy with our results and were willing to make any adjustments as needed or desired. Our nails came out looking fantastic. I was so happy and as was my roommate! We will definitely be back! 10/10 for both quality and experience. P.S. take the older reviews with a grain of salt, they told us they recently reopened a few months ago and are the new owners. The previous owners are the ones who did not provide the same quality of service. read more

Worst nail salon in Ballston. 10:30 appointment for two manicures, first manicure didn't start until 11, and second manicure started at 1130. Don't bother making an appointment. I also had an eyebrow wax which the employee walked out of twice to tend to other issues and forgot to wax the center of my eyebrows. Spent 15 minutes when I got home finishing the job with my tweezers. Save your money, so disappointing. Also, no regard for COVID whatsoever. They had someone not in my party seated right next to me (inches away). read more

For convenience (next to the office), quality of lacquers offered, sanitation practices, and gorgeous interior, Coatroom wins. It's not very often that you'd go to a nail service spot where they would line the pedicure bowl before filling it with water. A HUGE plus for me because of a previous traumatic incident involving dirty bowl (ew, let's not visit that memory again). Coatroom offers the standard pedicure sans massage chair - but honestly, the leg massage was worth it in the end. They offer the same products I use at home, Butter and Deborah Lippmann are the two brands that I love so much. It's toxic-free, doesn't damage your nails, and finishes like gel. I went with both for each of my manicure and pedicure. Some improvements that I'd love to suggest for Coatroom: a more gentle approach to my cuticles. One of the reasons I picked Coatroom was because it promoted "gentle exfoliation of the cuticles." Alas, some of my cuticles were slightly overcut although I asked for the technician to stop cutting so much. I love my cuticles, can we leave them a little be? Lastly, nail art is nothing like what they advertised on the website. I was hoping for a clean "V" line to go across one of my nails. Perhaps I was going for an Instagram-worthy line and that was asking for too much. I was left with a brushed-on look "V." A little different than what I was going for, but for $4/nail art, I was expecting a bit more. Post-visit survey was offered but I was unable to open the link. It says that the survey is no longer available? Strange considering I'd love to share my thoughts from the visit. I'll come back for the winning points I mentioned earlier. But next time, I think I'll be more vocal about the love of my cuticles and skip the nail art. read more

I got the step up mani pedi, and it was great! Staff was professional and friendly. Reasonably priced for the area. If you care about mental health at all, do not support this establishment. I was made to sit through two employees who were in a all out screaming match while doing my nails. I really really wanted to enjoy Coatroom. I've heard amazing things about it and was so excited to find a new nail place after I moved to the DMV area. I received a gel mani/pedi. My mani has a lot of disfigurement and bumps in the polish, which I've never had happen before. I also had a lot of paint on my hands as a result of the (otherwise very lovely!) woman painting my nails and placing the nail polish too close to my skin. Again, my manicurist was a delight, I'm just not pleased with the lumps and bumps in my gel manicure. The salon itself was a disaster. There were dirty towels in the same basket as clean ones, trash was being brought through the salon while customers were trying to move from the pedi station to the mani stations. There were Starbucks cups everywhere, the stations were a disaster and it honestly looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a few days. I might give Coatroom another chance, simply because I would have loved to have loved this place. read more
