Last minute dinner date with hubby. It was Mother's day weekend and the wait wasn't bad. It was about 30 minutes but a table at the bar became available about 10 minutes after I checked in. We got water,.chips and salsa right away. Then we ordered drinks. Waiter was Rich I believe. We ordered dinner and received quickly. My husband enjoyed his meal(Tampiquena). Stunning location off the marina in San Diego. The service was hospitable and fast, and the seafood was fresh and delicious. They have a great happy hour with both food and drink options. I had the calamari to start which was great and the first time that I've had peppers alongside the squid - loved it. For my entree I did the ahi tuna tostada and when I tell you it was my favorite meal of the trip, I do not lie. The tuna was chilled and fresh and the creamy sauce with the crunchy slaw and crispy tortilla could not be beat. For cocktails, I enjoyed the Paloma and recall a nice wine by the glass list as well. They have the best happy hour. Can't beat the views of the ocean and city, tasty bites that are very filling, and refreshing cocktails made to perfection. The only thing that would make this better is if happy hour was extended. They have lots of seating, but the best would be on the side right by the water. There's ample self parking also. Don't miss out on their butter cake with pineapples! It's not too sweet, and just the right amount of fluffy. Where this place really shines is the drinks--the cocktails are always refreshing, flavorful, and perfectly balanced, never overly sweet. What truly keeps us coming back, though, is Adriana. She consistently delivers outstanding service and has such a warm, welcoming presence. She's friendly, professional, and genuinely pleasant every single visit, and she always makes us feel comfortable and taken care of. Her personality truly elevates the entire dining experience. I was looking for a special place to have a family dinner for my parent's anniversary and I wanted a great view and good food. I called to make a reservation and explained what I was looking for. The woman who answered was immediately so helpful! I was so relieved to get all the help I needed to make it a special event. She said they have a great table with a beautiful view and it would be warm under the heaters. She even said we could decorate the table, which was a nice touch. When we were seated, the waiters were so nice and friendly. The food and drinks were delicious. I recommend the mezcal negroni. But the view was the star! The portions are not shareable and it's a little pricey, but you expect that these days and the view made it worth it for a special night. This is my favorite place to have lunch with my closest friend. I love the food, the ambiance and the servers are pretty awesome too. Until today! I did not read the entirety of the receipt until I got home a few hours after. There was a charge of 5% SUPPLEMENTAL FEE. What was that about?! And why were we not told about that fee when the bill was handed over to us? A courtesy mention by the servers would have been nice but nooooo. Was the strategy to hope the customer doesn't see it and don't ask about it? This restaurant is a bit pricey and that is fine because we pay for the experience, the ambiance and I get it! But a 5% fee is not acceptable! We customers do not complaint when restaurants up their menu prices - that's their right because it's a business and they should be compensated correctly. But it is not right to put a fee and charge the paying customers TO HELP OFFSET RISING COSTS. 5% may seem not much but (1) that cost should not be put on the customer (2) if you want to charge that to the customer, you should disclose it openly otherwise you're doing some SHADY business here. I looked at my other receipts from different bars and restaurants that I have been just yesterday and none of them had that fee. So why is that so, Coasterra?! read more

It crosses all the check boxes. Easy to find parking, great view of the san diego skyline. Food on the menu or paper seems to be good. But it is missing a soul, lacks character. Food is not bad, for example we ordered ceviche and cauliflower tempura. Good, balanced but wont blow your mind away. It is safe. You wont remember it after a day. The mexican paella, perfectly cooked but misses the wow factor. Services was also ok, did server checked on us? Yes. But it still took a while on a not so busy night and we still didn't get our bag for the left over for multiple reminder. The mezcal negroni followed the same character. It is playing too safe. Went here for my boyfriend's birthday celebration. We had a table next to the water which was great, until a private party had people lining up along the railing which blocked our view :( The food was good but the drinks were weak. I got the coconut margarita which was super yummy but sweet. My boyfriend got the espresso martini. We each had a few drinks and agreed there was hardly any alcohol in them. Our waitress also wasn't great. It seemed like she was always in a rush and was very short with us. She hardly swung by the table and we had to wave her down for the check... The server that I had I believe his name was Enrique, he went above and beyond to make sure dinner was perfect. The view itself was absolutely gorgeous and man oh man the enchiladas! Coasterra is located on the water and the views are magnificent! It was pretty busy for lunch on a Friday. The parking situation is not the best since the parking lot is shared with C Level. We made a reservation the day of and were accommodated with a beautiful view. Our server, Melida, was helpful and personable. We ordered the queso fundido, aguachiles, carne asada nachos, quesabirria tacos, and wagyu poblano burger. The best dish was the aguachiles and queso fundido. They had good flavor. The rest of the food was okay. The nachos got soggy fast and didn't have much cheese. The quesabirria tacos were dry. The burger was overcooked and a bit burned. Overall, you are paying for the view and the good service. The food was okay and I would prefer to just grab a drink and enjoy the complimentary chips and salsa. read more

Coasterra on Harbor Island has some of the best views of the bay and Downtown San Diego. It is one of the big reasons you would dine at Coasterra. Coming here for a birthday celebration, our party of 10 was seated promptly on the outdoor covered patio. You know it's a good sign when the first item they bring out is warm crispy tortilla chips and salsa. These are dangerous as before you know it you've just plowed through one basket and the server comes and reloads your basket. For cocktail, I went with one of their popular drinks called "Deb's Coconut Margarita" consisting of reposado tequila, coconut cream, lime juice, and coconut salt rim. This drink is on the sweeter side and almost tasted like a pina colada. For my main I went with the Australian Skirt Steak cooked medium rare. It was juicy and cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed my steak and would order this again. Others in the party ordered the carne asada served on a large block where one can assemble their meal. Also the table ordered the Mexican Paella filled with shrimp, squid, clams, mussels, mexican chorizo, bomba rice, saffron lobster broth and smoked chipotle aioli. A filling yet satisfying entree. Great location and really you do come here to soak in the views of San Diego. The food was great but it felt a little on the higher price range for modern mexican food. Was on the harbor for a work luncheon, and I was so impressed by the food and the view at Coasterra. Nice hot chips and fresh salsa met us at the table. I ordered the ahi salad and it was excellent. This was our first time Coasterra as we were in town for an event. Service is top notch from the moment you walk in. Make sure to made a reservation and you won't need to wait. You must try the coconut margarita! It's so delicious and smooth. It's cheaper to get a pitcher of it if you're in a large group. Portions are just right. We had the fish ceviche, tempura cauliflower with jalapeños, calamari and queso fondido, mahi fish tacos and a butter cake. The queso fondido was so good as they have it layer with pinto beans and jalapeños. Next time I'd like to try the shrimp aguachiles. The views are amazing! If you get cold, they offer blankets to keep you warm. This place is a 10/10 all around. read more

Awful. What a joke. I can't believe a restaurant can put out food this bad, especially one as seemingly "upscale" as Coasterra. If you just want the view, I get it, but don't say you weren't warned. Visited with my daughter for our last night in town. Coasterra looked really nice and had pretty good reviews. Not sure what those people were reviewing, but my experience was dramatically different. In short, the place and view are indeed beautiful, but the service is mediocre, and the food is completely tasteless. We started with the queso fundido. I've had lots of queso like this, and usually the cheese is the star of the show, with chorizo, etc. providing some nice flavor. The Coasterra version had so much stuff it was completely overwhelming. Plus the chorizo seemed a little off. Not good. The queso, however, was nothing compared to the disappointment of our entrees. My daughter and I both got the carne asada. I have never had a steak so devoid of flavor. In fact, nothing on the plate had any flavor. It was so underwhelming that both of us left a substantial amount untouched, which almost never happens. We did try dessert. My daughter had the churros, which she said we're just OK. I had the chocolate peanut butter mousse bar. The puffed quinoa was completely offputting, and the rest of the dessert was pretty bland. Just about like everything else. Service was average. I did not get the sense that our server cared very much, and she was frequently hard to find didn't give this place any kind of boost. Amazing. Everything!! We had reservations on a Thursday night. It seemed busy, so I'd definitely recommend making them. From the second you walk in it's a vibe with the raddest view of downtown San Diego. Chips and salsa were great! I ordered the trout and it was possibly the best trout I've ever had!! The rice and everything else that was paired on the plate was delicious and so fresh! I would definitely order it again. It felt healthy while filling. Service was great. My son and daughter-in-law took us to Coasterra during a recent trip to San Diego. We were very impressed. The view from the dining patio looking at downtown San Diego across the bay was awesome. And on our visit a full moon crept up from behind the skyline for an absolute breathtaking view. Every table got up to take pics. NOTE: We did as well but our photography skills are lacking. Dinner was just as outstanding as the view. We were immediately served chips and salsa. The salsa was tasty but a bit too watery. I prefer a chunkier salsa. The guacamole appetizer was excellent with just the right amount of heat. For entrees I opted for the Enchiladas Suizas (scallops, shrimp, queso fresco, poblanos, onions, tomatillo & lime crema) served with rice and refried beans. It was excellent, extremely tasty with plenty of small shrimp and scallops. My wife was a bit adventurous and ordered their Jalapeno-Corn Lasagna, not to be confused with the lasagna found at every Italian restaurant. It is made up of monterey jack, roasted poblanos, caramelized onions, spinach, arugula, heirloom tomatoes, shaved fennel, and an elote cream. She loved it. Others in the party raved over their meals Service was spot on. Our server was able to answer any and all menu questions. He was as attentive as you would want. We were extremely happy with our visit and look forward to a revisit on a future SD trip. read more

Genuinely surprised that the food was pretty good because you don't always get ambiance AND good food. We each got their tacos, which I recommend going for their battered or fried fish/shrimp. Just not the regular beef or chicken, as this place has better seafood. Stunning views of San Diego. We came at night during Comic Con week and were lucky enough to see fireworks from our table. Everything was served and prepared to perfection. The ceviche was phenomenal. The queso was flavorful and creamy, served with warm tortillas. The best of all was the Paella. Wow. The best Parlla I've ever had the pleasure of consuming. So my partner & I have gone to coasterra quite a bit in the past few years, but as of recently, has been SOO good. It was always good before, but we really feel that they've amped up their menu and food as of recently and we absolutely looooved our most recent visit. Both appetizers we got, chorizo mussels and clams and the cheese dip, were delicious. Our waitress was really nice, the views are always of course a huuuuge plus and what brings people in. We had a decent dinner here a few weeks ago. The restaurant decor and view was the best part and the wait staff wasn't bad. I also enjoyed my mocktail and the chips and salsa and guacamole were all good. Beyond that though, it was a little disappointing. The fajitas were a very small portion and kind of greasy which is odd for fajitas. Someone also got the queso and it was like one big wad of partly melted cheese so the party didn't really eat it because you basically had to make a quesadilla to eat it.
