I was recommended by my cardiologist to get an MRA done. I phoned three times and left three messages to their new patient coordinator. I did not receive one call back. Finally I told my cardiologist's office about this and asked them to call Coastal Surgeons consider my status as "urgent." My cardiologist staff person called me back right away because the staff at Coastal Surgeons told her that they do not perform the procedure I needed (an "MRA" because one of my carotid is 80% blocked). You would think that even if they don't do such a procedure, they would at least have the courtesy to call me back to tell me. read more

I wanted to send a shout out to one of Coastal Surgeons exceptional employees, her name is Veronica who works at their front office. I called last Friday on September 6, 2024 at 4 p.m. to tell Veronica I had cancelled a CT Scan with the Contrast Dye in it for my Pelvis and my Stomach at Tri-City Medical Center. I changed my mind due to the bad side effects that will happen to me. Veronica calls me Miss Frances all the time. Then I explained to her that I need a second opinion on my medical condition. I want to have more treatment options than being encouraged by Dr. Andrew Deemer to have surgery . That's my last resort. I believe surgery is okay when it's the last choice for a patient to get done. I know I will have a much better outcome with a doctor who knows my medical history. Even though , I am no longer a patient with this facility. I wanted to say that Veronica's personality has really stood out with me. Veronica was very understanding about my explanation in me finding more better treatment options for my health care. Veronica is a good listener and she doesn't interrupt me when I am talking to her. The last thing Veronica said to me yesterday was that she hopes that I will get the right treatment in the new medical office I will have to be a new patient at soon. When my insurance choose Dr. Toosie for my breast cancer surgery, I saw her one time. She talked to us like we were children the whole hour we were there and was arguementative when I managed to squeeze in questions. She said I have a stage 3 aggressive tumor. She wanted a CT scan before the surgery because it might be stage 4, she wanted to remove all the lymph nodes and leave markers (pieces of metal) for future scans. I decided to get a second opinion. I am grateful I listened to my intuition and found a different surgeon. I had my surgery with the other surgeon before Dr. Toosie's office even scheduled the CT scan. I called and told them to close my file, because I found another surgeon. They did not listen and ordered a CT scan anyway. I had to call several times to get them to call my insurance and cancell their authorizations since I am not their patient. With the new surgeon, I had stage 2, only 1 lymph node needed to be removed and no markers needed. read more

My review is for Dr. Wakily & the office staff. First let me start by saying, we are not taking our car for an oil change surgery is life changing. These surgeons take their work very seriously and it is true art. The Mona Lisa was not painted in one day, why would any one want to rush a person who is investing a part of themselves into your body? I had to add this because I noticed a couple of reviews by people stating they had to wait, please have patience with people of this profession! The office staff were all very kind and I was treated with respect by everyone. Dr. Wakily took great care at her office and at the hospital. She is a very kind person and highly recommended by my primary physician's entire team (Now me too!). I was nervous, who isn't when they don't know if they have cancer or do. She made me feel like this was a piece of cake she put my mind at ease completely, before surgery in pre-op & in the OR with her team. I have a very large, beautiful tattoo I had done overseas that could never be replaced. She did such amazing work removing this monster I called an octopus (tumor) growing out of my shoulder. You cannot even tell she opened up my back area, this monster was right in the middle of the tattoo! I literally was in tears when I saw it immediately after surgery, I felt beautiful again for the first time in years. Whatever was trying to grow into the rest of my body she pulled it out. Regardless of what that monster was she made me feel whole again with compassion. So, before you read any reviews less than 5 stars about this office don't bother, just read this one! My doctor referred me to Dr Toosie and it took her head of scheduling three days to call me back. When she did finally call me back she immediately interrupted me, did not get all of the correct information, and completely cut me off. I will never go to see this doctor after the way I was treated and recommend that you don't either. read more

I had a preventative double mastectomy and Dr. Toosie was the general surgeon. She was overly aggressive in more ways than one in a surgery that didn't call for it and my skin tissue died stopping me from having breast reconstruction. I was and still, am devastated 2 years later. On my follow up she screamed at me in my face. "If I didn't do this you could have died, do you hear me." Screaming in my face, no one came to help or ask what the hell was going on. I DID NOT have cancer. It was preventative and the Dr.'s I have seen since ALL have said that is the root of my problem. THAT surgery. It's bad enough to have to be going through this anyway but to have a Dr. not act professional and basically unkind is just wrong on every level. I needed to have a non-emergency appendectomy. Dr. Deemer saw me promptly after receiving the referral from the Gastroenterologist, secured authorization from insurance, and scheduled the procedure at the hospital the insurance specified. All went well. After I got home from the outpatient operation, I was able to eat and to void, then go straight to bed. Bowels worked fine the following morning. Pain controlled with pills the first post-op day, at my wife's suggestion took one pain pill at bedtime the second post-op day (didn't feel I needed anything in the daytime). Post-op office visit was during the "global" period so there was no co-pay. On the whole I recommend him without reservation. read more

I have read some reviews and just had to post mine..Dr. Toosie saved my life...without her tenacity, expertise, and passion for her job and patients, I truly believe i would not be here. When numerous tests and human error failed to diagnose my stage 3 breast cancer...she was the one who kept looking and questioning to finally give me the TRUE diagnosis. I was diagnosed on 7/9/2015 and 20 days later had a double mastectomy and ancillary lymph node removal. She was with me every step of the way..diagnosis to recovery...if she didn't fight for me and my situation..I would not be here today. So would I recommend her?..ABSOLUTELY! Just finished up with my second follow up Appt with Dr Toosie and its been as good an experience as going to the doctors can be. From scheduling my ultrasound (which they walked me through more than once since I did not realize I needed one for the second visit) to the speed in which they moved me from the lobby to the exam room was all great.   As a funny side note I made a joke about them hiring a designer for their lobby and found out that it was designed by the doctor herself (which I can only attribute to the multitasking abilities of being female).  The whole office is clean and fresh feeling, staff is super nice (shoutout to Sherese) and while I don't hope to be in this business with any regularity I do have a follow up again in six months so I may be updating then with anything new.  Here is hoping it all goes well. Dr. Toosie and her staff were always very caring, professional, cheerful and patient with me, a very squeamish individual in the shock of learning I had early-stage breast cancer. I underwent lumpectomy,sentinel node biopsy, oncoplastic repair late May 2019 and reexcision to clear margins late June 2019. 10 days later over a weekend, I presented at TCMC ER with a surgical complication. Dr. Wakily defly cared for me there. Dr. Toosie came to my bedside after what must have already been a 13-hour day upon her return on a Monday, inspected and re-dressed my incisions, which required another 90". This is a review for Dr. Mohammad Jamshidi-Nezhad. I had a varicose vein removed. I wish I hadn't gone to him. For anyone who is concerned with scarring, precision, and looking and feeling better, I would avoid him at all costs. He (probably) spent a total of 1 minute and 30 seconds with me, pre and post surgery. His bed side manner is terrible. There was no real follow up. No investigation into how I was doing, what I wanted or liked, how I wanted my treatment to go. It was just in and out. Sure, let's do surgery! See ya later! I had so many questions, and he spent no time with me to address any of my concerns. I had NO IDEA what I was supposed to do after my surgery. I had to do research on Google to find out what everyone else did. There was no talk about, "Hey, you should really walk around and keep your leg elevated." Seriously, one of the worst doctors I've ever been to. I had done so much research, and found that other vein specialists actually take care into how they cut the skin, they consider scarring and the patient's needs and concerns. I will definitely be going to another place for my 2nd leg. To make everything worse, I was unable to exercise for 6 weeks, AND the doctor did not remove all of my varicose vein. So I have about 12 ugly scars all the way from my upper thigh to ankle, plus I still have the varicose vein, and I will need another treatment on the same leg. What a joke. AVOID. read more

Dr. Toosie was my surgical oncologist when I needed a mastectomy. Not only did she go above and beyond with scheduling to accommodate my plastic surgeon to be there too, she even called me at home before my surgery when I was having questions about what to do. And the work she did was amazing. She has a true eye for aesthetics. I still see her yearly (it's been 3 years) and I enjoy our visits every time. Dr. Kathy Toosie recently performed my surgery for breast cancer. Needless to say, this was a very anxious time for me. The diagnosis was a shock. Dr. Toosie saw me immediately on a Saturday. She took over in her wonderful reassuring and even subtly humorous way, describing to my husband and me what would happen. I saw Dr. Toosie before I went into the OR. She reassured my husband, daughter and me that all would go well and answered our questions. She talked with me again in the OR both before surgery and after!! With Dr. Toosie's background in reconstructive surgery, my breast looks better now than before!! Her office staff is wonderful! This review is for my great surgeon Dr. Toosie. I saw Dr. Toosie one day after learning about my breast cancer diagnosis at age 35. Devastated does not begin to explain my emotions. I even cried as we pulled up to her office as I was not sure what to expect. Once in the room me and my husband waited for Dr. Toosie and when she came in she gave me a hug because she knew the results of my biopsy. She assured I was not in this alone and that she was on my team and was going to help me fight and that she would put together a strong team to help me throughout my fight. I felt comforted and safe she eased my emotions. At this appointment I was her last patient we sat in her office for close to two hours as she walked me through ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. She explained many different treatments, cancer and answered any questions me or my husband had. After 4 months of Chemotherapy Dr Toosie performed my bilateral mastectomy. Her bedside manner and care is beyond any expectations. She is a well respected surgeon at the hospital and that added to the comfort I have in her providing my care. I visited Dr. Deemer's for the first time. I was met by an exceptional receptionist. I forgot my paperwork at home. The receptionist was very understanding. She was friendly and accommodating. The waiting room was very well decorated and comfortable. Dr. Deemer was warm yet professional. I was there for my varicose veins. Something minor, He examined my legs thoroughly explaining his findings along the way. I learned things about varicose I not even read on-line. He patiently answered all my questions and explained my next step. My experience was very positive. I look forward and feel confident Dr. Deemer handling my care. read more

The review is not a review of their surgeons. I had a surgery with Dr. Kroener and he was EXCELLENT! However, I have been very unhappy with their office management. Last week I was informed by my doctor that my referral to see the surgeon for a post-op visit was approved by my insurance company and faxed to the surgeons office. I called Coastal Surgeons to make the appointment. I was on hold for 19 minutes just to have someone tell me they had not received my referral and that they would call me once they received it to schedule my appointment. Today, 6 days later, I still had not heard from them so I called back. This time it took 15 minutes of waiting on hold to find out that my referral had been received last week, the same day I called. So 6 days and 35 minutes of listening to easy listening later, with me tracking them down, I've finally scheduled the appointment. I asked to talk to the office manager and was told she was not in and that they'd give her my info and have her call me. Why do I think it's highly unlikely I get that call. Putting clients on hold for 15 minutes is ridiculous. It shows no care for client satisfaction. On top of that, not doing the simple job of following up on a referral to schedule an appointment within a week shows complete incompetence. The lack of efficiency, follow through, and resources of their office staff is very unsatisfactory. I will surely inform Dr. Kroener of this and let him know is definitely affects client satisfaction. I highly recommend Dr. Kroner, but just know that if you go to him or any of the surgeons in that office you'll have to deal with the annoyance of their completely unworkable office management situation. read more

I have been so impressed and grateful for Dr. Toosie's expertise and passion for her patients. I was able to join her clinical trial and qualified for IORT, which was my choice before surgery. Shortly after surgery, I was asked to donate my time to make a television ad for Tri-City Medical Center, and the IORT treatment I received for my breast cancer. I had a Bilateral Inguinal Hernia repair performed by Dr Hussna Wakily. I was very nervous in that the research I did indicated that this would be very Painful. Dr Wakily performed the surgery robotically at Tri-City. She was amazing. The surgery was minimally invasive and had very little post operative pain. She had a very pleasant bedside manner answering all my questions. I had no complications. I would recommend her to anyone who needs this surgery. I have healed quickly and back to working out. Where do I begin? I was told my surgery would be simple and have a small 1 inch cut. I have a 3 inch cut and have had my post op rescheduled because he's running late. I'm now here at 8:30 am for my new appt and Dr Deemer isn't even here yet! He does not care about anyone else's schedule but his. I asked him to fill out a simple form for my supplemental insurance and was told he charges $40 to fill out any forms! This is part of his job! After surgery he didn't even call to check on me or talk to my husband post surgery to explain how it went. I highly recommend you find another surgeon if you can! I was lucky enough to have Dr Toosie on call the day I needed a surgeon consult at Tri City Hospital. She came in to the ICU and immediately assessed and took charge of the situation, rushing me down to the OR. I saw Dr. Jamshidi and am very pleased! I was suffering with gallstones for 5 months and his team was able to get me in and out! He was very kind and made me feel he was very confident in what he was doing. He removed the gallstones and even took pics for me (I literally requested them very last minute) but just him taking the extra minute was very nice. Dr. Toosie is amazing. An excellent surgeon, and a wonderful human being. While I wish circumstances were different and I'd never had to meet her this way, I couldn't have asked to be in better hands. She explained all my procedures and gave me options where I thought there would be none. Even up to heading into surgery, she made sure I was ok with my decisions. Dr. Toosie is no nonsense, but still allowed for me to deal with all the emotional fallout from being diagnosed with cancer. She let me cry (briefly - haha), and then let me know that she would take the best care of me and pass me on to other members of the oncology team (that she's worked with for years) to continue to take the best care of me. Her staff is the best as well. Each person I came into contact with from the first phone call was supportive, kind, and made me feel cared for during a very challenging time in my life. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing specialized breast surgery. While I found Dr. Toosie through a referral, she ended up already being the surgical part of the multi-disciplinary team that was being put together for me by the Scripps Nurse Navigator. Was referred to Dr. Toosie by my fam doc when i found a lump shown cancerous on ultrsound. If u have an "invasive breast cancer" do not start out w a surgeon and piece your own team together. You will not get state-of the art care. Go to a regional BC center, like Scipps, BreastLink of Orange, Temecula or Laguna Niguel where they do it all under one roof. i lost months dealing w Dr Toosie's "standards of care" mammogram, mam w contrast, PET scan, bone biopsy (unneeded) in office biopsy of tumor (tool was NOT sharp) see Dr. Mayberry at Tri-City for this. yes Toosie showed me compassion. Even tho i scheduled a pre-op and discussed lymph node sparing with her, (should have discussed skin and nipple sparing). she told me I'd lost too much weight to save the breast YET failed to even mention she would be doing this underarm axilla node removal (worse than loosing a breast). She told staff to schedule me last on surgery day "cause I ask too many questions", and then an hr and a half late going into surgery she sprung the auxilla dissection on me. Toosie said it was "just removing a bit of fat w a few nodes". Understatement of the year. The op report listed all these intact nerves, but something was cut (and not mentioned) cause its all still numb under arm around to back. She did not know that you need to keep your arm fairly immobile after masectomy, and i ended up with drain for over a month. She should know this. She recom a 2nd smaller drain, another interventional radiology procedure, and when she was on vacation Dr. Deemer pulled out the drain and instead of getting another one aspirated the area twice and that worked. i felt all this wld have been avoided if id of kept the arm quiet for just a few days. Toosie is a good surgeon, esp if u dont question anything. for removing a lump shes fine, for invasive breast cancer go where they have an integrated team, the newest thing is chemo first or drugs or proton beam to shrink tumor and at Scripps u have option of brachi radiation, during surgery or oncoplastic surgeons doing reconstruction with the masectomy ( if C has not spread.) Letting an isolated surgeon coord ur team you likely wont be told any of this. she sent me to the oncologist, radiologist, plastic surgeon all before mas. but i didnt know what i was suppose to be asking, because the contrast mri gave false positives and the PET didnt show cancer in nodes. long story short, these tests r not definative. Kaiser does a pretty good job.of doing it all under one roof, but u need to be assertive there and their plastic surgery is done in a 2nd proc. dont know if they do brachiatherapy. (interoperative radiation, for non spread cancer). read more

I'm so surprised to see anything less than five stars for Dr. Toosie. She has been not only an excellent surgeon, but a kind, supportive and compassionate individual. I had Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, they found 4 different types of cancer in that tumor. She also took lymph nodes for testing. I had some difficulty after my surgery and she took my calls, on the weekend, to help me through it. When I had another issue with my incision, she saw me frequently to check in and reassure me. I would recommend anyone with breast cancer to have Dr. Toosie as a surgeon. This was a very scary experience and Dr. Toosie was incredibly supportive and continues to be almost 2 years post diagnosis. read more
