Stephen (Inspection & Sales) - Stephen arrived exactly at the scheduled time and was friendly from the moment he walked in. He inspected my attic, measured the square footage, and walked me through all available insulation options. No upselling...just available options. Based on our conversation about my high winter heating bills, he also suggested that my outer walls likely needed insulation. Before giving me any pricing, he made sure I understood that Atticare would secure the best possible PSE&G rebate. They ultimately obtained a sizable rebate (free money!) and a 0% loan for 72 months billed as part of my monthly utilities bill, which allowed me to insulate all three floors of outer walls in addition to the attic. I had to put in window units upstairs even though I have central air conditioning, because it was always hot in summers. Ralph came by, looked at the crawl space, and suggested that it was my attic that needed more insulating. I didn't even know I had an attic because the home inspection report said a previous addition upstairs was the attic itself. Ralph was right. He gave me a quote, didn't try to upsell me, and answered other heating and cooling questions I then had. The crew, led by Francisco, were three hardworking and polite guys who neatly cut a small hole in my upstairs ceiling, blew in fiberglass, went into the crawl space, vacuumed it entirely, cleaned the transfer grille that was located at the top of the staircase (bad location), and closed everything back up. He educated me about how that's really only a problem in attics and to use a dehumidifier in the basement. He suggested I use rockwool to insulate my ceiling as a diy project to save a lot of money and still have good soundproofing. Great recommendation and very honest. Jim came highly recommended from a coworker who had sprayfoam done in her crawlspace. I can see why she sang his praises.

As a higher R-value insulation, spray foam gives more insulation with less thickness then other types of insulation and comes in two types: closed-cell and open-cell. Closed-cell polyurethane spray foam, with its compact cell structure, is effective as an air and water-vapor barrier and is used often in roofing projects and other outdoor applications. Closed-cell spray foam can also act as a mold and moisture deterrent. Open-cell spray foam, with its lighter, more open-cell architecture, is great for sound insulation between interior walls. Cellulose insulation, the latest in home insulation solutions, is a loose-fill insulation made out of renewable, plant-based products and is environmentally friendly, having the highest recycled content of any current insulation material. Recent studies have also shown that cellulose may be a better fire-deterrent than fiberglass. Like spray foam, cellulose can be installed in hard to reach areas, fitting over pipes and wiring. First off you…read moremight notice if you speak to them at the office or read up on the company that Shane is the only inspector, this is not a corporate business - this means savings! Shane beat the prices of the two other inspectors I requested quotes from and I was even able to get the infrared imaging to check the walls for moisture and whatnot. The inspection itself was super thorough, the inspection report was also very detailed and you can see a sample report on his website of what you will be getting from him. You can even create a list of items using the website the report is on and it is very easy to do, which you can send to the seller to request to be fixed before you agree on the price. We ended up saving a lot of time and money by sending this list over to the seller. Shane really looked into every crevice of the home, and by walking around with him he gave us some very good advice about what will cost a lot to fix and should be done professionally, and what we could probably do ourselves very cheaply. He also gave us some information in general that would be nice to know about your new home, such as pointing out where the electrical panels and water shutoff valves are. We even got a little book at the end about being a home-owner and things you should know when you own a home. We had actually been able to view two inspection reports on the same home from previous buyers that fell through, and Shane's inspection report caught a lot more things than the other two reports. If for some reason we ever need an inspector in the future we know we will call Shane first.
