I went here after needing to switch dentist for insurance purposes. I came here for a cleaning. After getting my x-rays from my old dentist taken 4 months ago they wanted me to take new ones with them. After I told them I did not need new x-rays because I just did full and bitewing 4 months ago they told me they wouldn't charge me then sent it to my insurance anyways. I received a basic oral exam and was waiting for the cleaning I came there for when they approached me telling me I needed a deep cleaning which I would need to pay $568 out of pocket for then every cleaning after that would be the basic cleaning. I declined the deep cleaning and stated I just wanted a basic cleaning I get three times a year. They asked me to follow them and then they led me to the exit and told me to leave. Shocked I asked if they were going to do the cleaning I came there for and they said no and asked me to leave. I told them I am a Yelp Elite and level 8 local Google guild and would share my experience and they said they did not care. They did they same thing to my elderly mother who I caretake for and got her to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket for the same "Deep Cleaning". This place is a scam. The doctor is good, however, the billing department is the worst that I have ever seen!!!Thankfully I have been 3 times just for cleaning within the last two years. Even though my insurance covers the cleaning and the checkup, I have been charged 3 different deductible each time. Looks like they are just making charges up. I went on June 10, and 10 days later have a bill charging for the cleaning. The cleaning was already paid by the insurance. I called then and they told me it was taken care of. Now I get another bill with some fictitious charge for "protective Equipment". I was never disclosed the charge and I do not even understand what is for. I never used any protective equipment, unless they add now charging patient for it. For sure. This will be the last time I visit them. Worst dental office I have ever been to. No full time dentist, help comes and goes. Cancels appointments the day before you are scheduled because there is not a full time dentist there. 100% in it for the $ complete scam they tell you that you need a deep cleaning even though your insurance covers your cleaning, but not for a "deep cleaning" had to pay out of pocket $220 they told me that I had to get that done or no cleaning at all and once I get a deep cleaning that I had to come every 3 months for another "deep cleaning" that basically I'm marked and have no other choice. I have an insurance plan that covers routine dental care at 100%. Coast Dental wanted to nickel and dime me as part of their protocol. I don't pay for 100% dental coverage every month to go to a doctor in my plan and expect to pay them anything. If coast dental doesn't like the contract they agreed to with my insurance company then they need to negotiate better and not add extra fees onto the patient. The receptionist told me about some OPTIONAL add-ons that the dentist would go over with me at the time of cleaning. I went in the next day, and was presented with $130 in extras, that my insurance would not cover, past the basic cleaning. When I told the dentist that I would be declining these extra services, and going with my insurance covered basic cleaning, this is what she told me. "That is not the treatment plan that I have for you today. You do not get to decide your treatment plan, I DO!" She then turned her back and walked away spouting off about how she doesn't have time for this. Absurd. So they refused to treat me, wasted my time and my morning, and insulted me all in one shot. I've actively avoided going to the dentist for much of my adult life, and FINALLY went about looking for a dentist back in 2019. After much research, I went to two dentists - one for an initial consult and Dr. Spicola a 2nd opinion. Both practitioners had reputations for working well with fearful patients, but I opted to try Dr. Spicola at Coast Dental Eastlake because they accepted my insurance AND because Dr. Spicola offered a more conservative treatment plan. Around the time I finally had the courage to finally schedule treatment to begin (some months after my initial consultations took place), COVID-19 hit,... Nearly 18 months after that, and my teeth could no longer be ignored and I finally started my treatment plan. I am so glad that I did. I have no idea why I waited! Dr. Rachel Spicola, DDS (Dentist) & Christina Geier, RDH (and team) do an amazing job. Best part - they explain what they are doing, they are extremely knowledgable and talented at what they do, and they listen to you/check in with you during treatment to make sure you are comfortable with what's happening. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! Long story short, I was basically told her to pay for all of my dental procedures or else I can't get any treatment. Could I break up the things I needed done to save money? NOPE, had to get the all done. I was very taken back by this, went to get a second opinion, and the second dentist didn't mention any of the procedures this place told me I needed. So unprofessional... I scheduled an appointment with the call center on July 3rd for July 23rd at 3 pm. Received a call from Danielle on July 7th to re-scheduled because their call center put me in a "wrong spot". I couldn't talk at the time and called back the next day at 8:30 am and spoke to someone to reschedule my appointment for July 22nd at 9 AM. On today, July 20th I received a call at 2:05 PM from the "office manager" who goes on to tell me she doesn't have anything on her schedule for me and they can't see me at all. After, continuously going on my information and telling her I had the specific appointment she couldn't accommodate me in any way. So, I'll take my business elsewhere with a more friendly, professional, and trustworthy staff... I can't keep rearranging my work schedule for you all lack thereof. read more

I'm not really sure why this location got such a low rating on Yelp. I went here 3 years ago for an examination and thought everyone was really nice. I moved down to South Florida for a few years and recently got back into town and needed an exam, so called to get an examination and I can say the three times I have been here over the years my experience has been nothing but great. Listen, I'm not a stranger to doctors because I have some ongoing health issues and I am incredibly picky with doctors and even more picky with dentists and I think the staff here is great! Dr. Spicola is gentle, friendly, and she spent a good deal of time with me. Sasha, at the front desk was very accommodating and really nice. Lucy, the dentists assistant was super sweet and the girl who did the X-rays was really nice as well. The office was well run and what I like about this office is that they actually didn't try to make me get things I didn't want or need (a lot of chains are like that). I go here and was told that I need deep cleaning and that it is going to need all this work. This is total BS. I am going back to my old dentist after we update our benefits for the next year. I agree with other, they are scam artists. They said my insurance didn't cover a $180 charge for a root canal and when I asked what the charge intailed they said irrigation. They said the insurance would not cover it but on my bill all it says is Unspecified Endodontic Procedure, By Rep code 03999. Yeah...no wonder the insurance won't cover it. I argued but they would not do the procedure without it. A complete and utter sham. read more

I was given a new patient quote from Coast Dental .. my out of pocket expense (after insurance covers) would have been $1200.00. I have gone to many different dentist in my lifetime, however this is the most professional office, we have ever visited, both my husband and I, had work done here, and we both agreed, that Dr.Spicola, and her staff, are by far the best office, we have ever been to. Dr.Spicola, explains everything, in a way, that makes it so easy to understand, she makes sure that you are comfortable and walks you though everything thing she is doing. Our son began orthodontic services with the Wesley Chapel location in May of 2019. His treatment followed a usual routine with bi-monthly adjustments to start. However, by December of 2019, things began to fall apart. We are extremely disappointed with the care, or lack thereof, that our son has been receiving since the new year. Due to poor communication, organization and staffing at the Wesley Chapel and New Tampa offices, our son's orthodontic treatment has been inadequate these past sixth months. The orthodontist has shared that our son has not been making progress since December 2019 since his MARA appliance has not been properly repaired and monitored. This is unacceptable. We have sought to keep his treatment on track, however, it has fallen on deaf ears. Our son should not have to undergo a longer treatment because of inadequate care. Cancellations by the office, agreed upon work not completed (cleanings), and not having the proper tools to address the MARA appliance repair is unacceptable. Our son has been seen twice and sent home without having his appliance removed and sent off for repair (12 weeks)! We have reached out to Coast Dentals Patient line numerous times with no response back! read more

A lot of things bothered me when I entered this place. On entering I was not greeted at all, the receptionist was busy on the phone and the other two people in the back office were busy gossiping about other patients. Once she got off the phone( after 10 minutes) she started serving a person who came after me, then I had to ask her for my new patient form because I think nobody could see me! After about 15 minutes of getting there, I was given my new patient form. Then they let a lady who came in after me go see the dentist before me, and I was stuck waiting there for 50 MINUTES. It was upsetting because I had informed them while making the appointment and after signing in that I have to leave in an hour as I was on a lunch break. Later when the nurse finally came to get me I told her I was not happy that they made wait for 50 minutes to which she replied-" SHOULD WE RESCHEDULE BECAUSE WE ARE WORKING WITH PEOPLE NOT ROBOTS." The fact that I had to wait did not trouble me as much as the way this lady treated me. This lady was the reason my whole experienced was so bitter. She was banging things and shoving things in my mouth, and was rude and insensitive. It almost felt like she was treating me like a robot. This was just the worst dentist office I have been to and would recommend people not to go because patient care and sensitivity were absent. read more

This office is awesome! The whole staff is super friendly, and make going to the Dentist as enjoyable as it can be. They are fair and understanding, and will work with you on payment if finances are an issue. They never try to scam you into any unnecessary procedures, and you can tell that patient care is their priority. Don't go to ANY Coast Dental office because this is an unethical corporation that trains all their employees to rip off patients, over charge them beyond what their insurance says to pay, and try to get you to agree to procedures you don't need. Such as a $600 gum cleaning before they do any work at all. The dentist here is a friendly girl but will only spend 20 seconds talking to you about your issue, doesn't use good judgment, and is rough in her handling. The RC specialist has the personality of a rock. The dental assistants are only there for a paycheck and make LOTS of mistakes. (Nicole) One even told me my pain was all in my head. I have been coming here for several visits over the past few months and I love my dentist and everyone else in the office.

The office staff is extremely rude and incompetent. It took one week and 3 trips to get copies of my X-rays which they told me takes 5-10 minutes to process. I am going to have dental surgery and I wanted a second opinion which is a right of any patient. When I asked for the X-rays which I paid for the staff became belligerent. The rooms are small and the equipment is rickety. The dentist was knowledgable and pleasant enough but if this is the level of competence allowed in the office I don't want to risk having any procedures done there. read more
