The "Hi House" is absolutely gorgeous, starting with the panoramic view of the sky and trees all around you when you wake up in the morning. You can't get much closer to being in the elements, except you have central heating and a comfy bed. There are decks all around the place for just sitting and taking in the scenery, and I bet if you brought that certain someone, you might not leave the place for days. This little house is made for two, with one central room made entirely of glass, a tiny kitchen and even tinier bathroom. There is a Jetson-esque tram that actually takes you from your car up the hill to the house, so you really do feel like you're in a tree house, far up from the world down below. Antlers and succulents and 1960s furniture are the backdrop. Between the hiking trails and the oysters, the ocean and the Scotland highland-ish surroundings, there's tons to do and explore. Just one rule... no rocks! You are in a glass house after all.

You dreamed of this when you were six, but who knew it existed? The Trees by Tomales Bay is composed of just two properties on 5 acres. On your first night, there is continental breakfast left in the fridge. It's "adults only" and you couldn't comfortably fit more than two, anyway. There are three separate decks for reading, and you'll see little more than trees and the water in the distance (oh, and some birds who missed the glass and fly into it-it's okay-they all kept flying. I checked) It's even decked out in 70's decor to complete your childhood fantasy. The bed is super high, very soft, and I was pleased with the linens. The owners have also outfitted the house with every book on Point Reyes ever published. Quiet, peaceful-an absolute favorite.

The family history here is compelling and part of why we chose to stay here- it is a privilege to be part of the Straus family's world, and to see the land that Mrs. Straus fought to preserve. The home is comfortable and lends itself to so many great memories- we enjoy conversations in every nook and love retreating to our rooms for much needed rest. The views around the property are stunning. One of my stays was rainy and that was equally delicious - this natural invitation to hunker down and read and be present. Michael is a wonderful person and host and has always shown us such kindness and openness. It is great working with him to set up the place prior to our arrival, from extra requests to making a fire pit for s'mores. This place holds a special place in my heart and I would come back more often if I could afford to - it's a great treat. You will love it.

They had our hearts within minutes of meeting them, and we quickly learned that their warmth was matched with deep event planning expertise, lightning fast responses to all manner of inquiries, and a general willingness to do absolutely everything within their power to make our wedding seamless. We can't say enough positive things about Vivien and Michael. We had heard planning a wedding would be stressful, but largely thanks to Vivien and Michael, we honestly never felt stressed. They regularly welcomed us to the ranch ahead of our wedding, helping us build a special bond to the land and to their family. They worked so effectively as a team, helping us find lodging, answering questions on behalf of our other vendors, thoughtfully navigating asks related to honoring recently passed family members, and so much more. During the wedding weekend, Michael bent over backwards to make sure everything ran smoothly, always beaming with a huge smile. His soft serve ice cream was such a big hit! It was always such a relief to see Michael, because we knew he was fixing something we didn't have to worry about, or making something work better, or just thinking 10 steps ahead to make a future moment run smoothly. He is exactly who you want at your wedding!! We had the wedding of our dreams and we can't imagine a better place or better hosts for this special moment in our lives. We plan to visit Straus Home Ranch regularly and will loudly sing the praises of Michael and Vivien everywhere we go, because we're convinced there is no better place on the planet to host a wedding.

Because if I had my way, none of you would know about this gem so I could go there whenever I wanted. But I love Ann, and I love Yelpers, so I'll make this personal sacrifice. Anns View is beyond special. It's a teeny tiny little spot, with only two suites, situated atop a hill on Hwy One right next to Tamales Bay. The views from the North and South Suite are breathtaking. When you are looking for a weekend away and some quality time with someone you adore, this is your spot. It's not cheap, but for what you get, it's a steal. For $275 a night the North suite is a bedroom plus huge living room with a fireplace, huge kitchen, and most spectacularly, literally 270 degrees of views of the bay. Floor to ceiling windows facing South and West. Everything is incredibly modern and tastefully done (no awful floral patterns here, just sleek hardwood and stark white everywhere). Ann will stock your fridge with local Pt Reyes cheese, fresh squeezed orange juice, scones, and cream for your morning coffee. The South suite is just one bedroom with the view only looking South, for $225 a night if you are looking to spend a little less, but honestly the North suite is more than worth the extra $50 a night. Two nights reservations are required for weekends and holidays. Once you're there you can visit Hog Island Oyster Company, Pt Reyes, go hiking, kayaking, fishing, windsurfing, wine tasting, or honestly, just chill out in your gorgeous suite with you honey, read, pay games, be lazy, and whatever else it is you might want to do on such an occasion ;).

We stayed here last night, and again tonight. 2 nights is NOT enough. I want to live here. I cannot wait to return. This is such an amazing gem, that I am hesitant to yelp about it, for fear it will be too hard to book in the future. However, I did find this place through yelp, and will return the favor to others. If you are looking for a place to book in Inverness or Point Reyes, you MUST book this place. It was worth every single penny. This cottage is in the middle of an enchanted forest, and I never want to leave! The owner, Wendy is so sweet, and communication was great. It was a breeze to book it. This morning, while I sipped my coffee on the gorgeous deck, I was half expecting a fairy to come say hi.

You know how it is when you are in charge of a big group's plan, this was the least thing I wanted to worry about and the most important! where to spend the night on that Saturday. But, then...when we arrived late on Saturday night, spent the night and then the morning of Sunday, we wished we would have arrived earlier and stayed longer. The true magic lies in this place. We loved this house! every corner of it, it is a very comfortable place and your friends or group of people will feel like home. It is a very functional house, whenever you need something (like a bottle opener) you turned around and there you go, you find it. It's clean and organized plus the cleaning fee is included which makes your life easier. It worked really well for me, with a group of single people and a couple. We fell in love with the house and we will definitely come back when the days are warmer. [Sorry for the pictures that are not rotated, I guess Yelp doesn't have that feature, another review?]
