    Cool time away from home
    Richard B.

We have only stayed here once but it was great. Heated bathroom floor, wood fireplace and comfy bed. Check in is across the street at the restaurant. The room we had was not on the water but across the street with a water front view. In the morning breakfast is delivered to your door from across the street. If I recall it is a complementary  contenental breakfast but you can add to it the night before. Also a nice TV if you feel like vegging inside. Point Reyes is awesome for hiking, boating and biking. Well we see bicyclist but you will never catch me on those windy 2 lane roads. One of the best things about Point Reyes and particularly the Marshall area is oysters. Lots and lots of oysters. Nick's Cove Restaurant & Bar, Hog Island, Tony's Seafood and Marshall Store are all close.  From the bay area the main route seems to be through Point Reyes Station via Lucas Valley Road off 101. We prefer going up to Petaluma and taking the Old Redwood Highway exit towards Tomales and heading South on Highway 1. A much less curvy route. Back to the cottages. On weekends there is a 2 night minimum and you need to book it well in advance. We were at the restaurant on Dec. 3rd and we checked availability and was able to score 2 nights for the middle of January.

One of the most charming and romantic places you can stay on the NorCal coast. Nick's Cove is a group of lovely cottages right off of Highway 1 in Marshall. They're directly across the street/highway from the restaurant & bar by the same name. We've stayed in a few different cottages over the years and they are all wonderful. Each cottage we've stayed in has been fully equipped with a kitchen. One of the best features is the heated tile floor of the bathroom. It gets COLD by Tomales Bay, so it is heavenly to walk onto a warm bathroom floor in your cottage, particularly first thing in the morning. You can pre-order breakfast from across the street which they will deliver to your cottage - including mimosas and bloody marys if you're so inclined! This is a great spot to get away from it all. Book a night or two or three here with your significant other, and spend some quality time together, you will truly not regret it.

Holiday evening view from the Nicolina

I've been waiting to book the Nicolina and so glad I finally did! Spent a magical night in this little boat turned into the cutest cottage on the water with a gorgeous view. Enjoyed complimentary oysters and continental breakfast. The staff I interacted with, Courtney, Ashlyn and Angela were very welcoming and provided great customer service. The only slight disappointments were the quirky bathroom sink (which would only give me a trickle of water so I used the bathtub faucet) and that I couldn't soak in the clawfoot tub due to drought conditions. Other than that it was a lovely. Brought a book, magazine, journal, and ukulele but spent most of the time looking at the beautiful view and inhaling the sea air!

Bed was so comfortable and had amazing linens!

Amazing experience! We stayed at Uncle Andy's cottage. The room was comfortable, clean and the bed so nice! Great linen and perfect pillows. Breakfast was delivered to our room ( fresh pastry and fruit) and was wonderful. We arrived at 3 and we were so impressed with our warm reception. We went to dinner at the restaurant and sat at the bar. Bartender ( a female but forgot her name) was so engaging and knew a lot of local history. Their house special "gin and tonic" was very good. They make their own tonic! Fish and chips excellent! I wasn't wild about their clam chowder but I'm more of a creamy base for my chowder. We will definitely return!

    The waterfront cabins.

Came here for a quick one-night getaway from the south bay and was pretty disappointed. Stayed in one of the waterfront cottages. This place is priced for serious luxury, but instead you get basic and nautical. These guys need to either drop the price or improve the experience - a lot. Also, the cottages are pretty close together and they allow pets in some, so we woke up to a barking dog about 2 feet away at 8AM. Not exactly what we had planned for a relaxing late morning. Food was decent but also a bit pricey. We did both dinner and breakfast as room service and tried lots on the menu. Dinner had highs and lows with over-sauced tuna, really terrible duck salad, tasty crab mac & cheese (unfortunately too sophisticated tasting for the kids), nice but a bit greasy duck deviled eggs, good cheese selection. Also, warning... no cell service out here (maybe that's why you came, but we like to stay connected) and the wifi was nice, but extremely slow. Really nice staff, but there aren't many of them, so be prepared to wait a bit to check in if you hit the timing wrong. Not coming back to get pillaged again.

I stayed at Big Rock 1st night and Judy's 2nd night. Staff - very accommodating, great customer service. Every guests gets complimentary breakfast brought to your room (coffee/juice, fruit and pastries). The scones & muffins are really really good. The muffin is probably the best I've had. You can also add more food (oatmeal, eggs, bacon etc) for a few $. Every guest also receives complimentary "arrival oysters". You can have them raw or BBQ. I love the BBQ! Had a kick to BBQ sauce. Big Rock - they did not spare any details decorating this cottage. Panoramic views of the bay, your own deck, cottage with most privacy. Bring marshmallows, graham crackers & Hershey's-- fireplace works great. Bathrooms have heated floors, cool copper tub, and unique toilet. Too bad I did not take pictures of this toilet - hubby said we need one like it at home. Judy - this is smaller and different view of bay. You are higher up and on other side of road. This cottage is equally well decorated. Difference is really the view vs Big Rock. Every cottage has a room guests can sign. I read the one in Judy -- many years of satisfied guests. Restaurant- I expected quality to be like Gladstone or your regular chain seafood restaurant (good but not memorable). Well we were wrong - the food rival top restaurants we've had in SF, Napa & NYC. Another plus is Miller boat landing is right next door. A plus for anyone interested in kayaking.

The innkeeper, Bob, greeted us in person when we arrived around 11:30pm; He personally showed us to our room and calmly described how ordering breakfast worked, gave us wifi credentials, and then let us relax. If you're looking for upscale luxury, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for an exceptionally clean, cozy, and well run B&B than look no further. You're staying in a tranquil, untroubled place that persuades you to decompress and clear your mind. Notable Amenities: - WiFi - Feminine products in the bathroom - Novels and light music - Fireplace - Continental breakfast - Binoculars - Hiking backpack - Mini refrigerator What is provided to you promotes relaxation and exploring your surroundings. We spent our mornings in the room eating breakfast, listening to Claude Debussy and watching the mist clear over the bay. We then headed out to go kayaking all day, had oysters and champagne for dinner, then retreated back to the B&B to cozy up in front of the fire. *Note About Breakfast* Breakfast is brought to your room and includes the following: tea, orange juice, and an assortment of breads (blueberry, coffee, pumpkin, poppyseed, etc.) *Note About Your Surroundings* You are near a few restaurants, and a light breakfast is provided, otherwise not much is around. I would suggest bringing some fruits/veggies and other light snacks when you are out during the day.

A fire glows outside the lobby, where guests gather for complimentary s'mores from the front desk. Melissa greeted me that evening - jovial, warm, and effortlessly efficient. Check-in felt less like a transaction and more like an arrival. After settling in, we walked up to Mable's just up the hill. The air was crisp. Jackie seated us outside, wiping down the table and setting up the heater while asking what brought us there. The service felt attentive without being intrusive - thoughtful in a way that made you feel both seen and relaxed. The manager recommended the oysters (sourced just down the hillside), clam chowder, beef short ribs, carrots, and potatoes he described as "ridiculously good." He wasn't wrong. One bite and I understood the confidence behind the recommendation. Jackie crafted a mezcal cocktail - technically out of season due to its pomegranate base - so she improvised beautifully. It was smoky, warm and sweet; perfect for the evening. Every dish felt intentional and dessert was too - chocolate mousse, peanut butter, caramel, roasted marshmallow, quinoa bark, and peanuts that melted together in a single, perfectly balanced bite. Later, I returned to the now-quiet fire, made one last s'more, and sat in stillness. There was a palpable sense of history on the land - a peaceful awareness of all who had gathered there before. The room was simple and deeply comfortable. I read before wrapping myself in crisp sheets and falling asleep on a cool pillow. In the morning, wrapped in a Marconi robe, I walked to the sauna and meditated - alternating between closed eyes and views of trees and the Pacific beyond. After a hot shower, I packed up and chose a nearby trail. The hike unfolded like a story: a solitary yellow chair overlooking rolling hills and ocean; the distant sound of cattle; clusters of seats that felt as if laughter had only just faded; historic buildings standing quietly in time; a small pond alive with frogs; ravens calling overhead; forest trails opening into meadow views. Eventually, the paths brought me back near Mable's. For breakfast, Haven greeted me and I chose the same table from the night before. I ordered the French toast after seeing the light in the eyes of my waitress when she described it - along with black coffee and scrambled eggs. Robert, the manager, stopped by to ask about my stay and suggested one final trail before I left. He was right - it was the perfect closing note. The Lodge at Marconi offers more than a stay. It offers space - to breathe, to wander, to reconnect. Wherever you're traveling from, you may just find solace here.

Pros: this was a very charming estate and the staff was beyond kind to both of us and our pup. He was welcome everywhere except the dining room, the pool and spa. The room was very cute and clean. The only downside for me and my allergies is that there is wood fireplace in each room. The bathroom had plenty of hot water. The breakfast was from 8-10 am in the dining room and had a decent meat-less spread. Toast, bagels, oatmeal and toppings, plain yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, fruit salad, coffee, tea assortment and juices. The grounds are super cute and weather permitting there is a movie playing on a projector with complimentary s'mores to cook on the outdoor wood fire. Since we had our dog, we didn't use the pool or spa. "Aunt Kay" we interacted with the most and was so kind to both of us and Dio. She made our stay! Not only was she informative but also checked in on us when we we'd pass through the lobby. Dio was a big fan of her. Cons: if you have allergies or are sensitive to wood smoke, this is not your destination. Again, there are wood burning fireplaces in each room and a large fire pit by the movie. The room we stayed at is across from the pool and it can get noisy. You can also hear everyone that walks in front of your room. Along with that there is a lot of wildlife, so you may need ear plugs. If you need to sleep in the dark, the front blinds are going to still let in light, so bring a sleep mask. Update: we got a text that I forgot my socks in the room. They offered to mail them to us, we declined. I don't remember the last time house keeping and the front office too the time to be that considerate.

The room and bathroom are really spacious, clean, and the two king beds are huge in the room. It's a great amount of space for a couple or larger group. Lounging here or in one of the several communal areas is welcoming. The grounds are better kept than many years ago, but there are still some pockets that could use some care. But the reception Chex mix/ wine, movie night with s'mores, lawn games, make the larger property feel cozy. And while I didn't get to the jacuzzi or pool, I wish I had! What made me write this review though, is the gluten free and dairy free options for breakfast. They have homemade bread to toast which had me coming back for seconds. Usually, gluten free is so disappointing, but not here. Delicious! On top of all this was friendly and informative staff. Lovely stay. Hopefully, we'll be back in another 10 years.
