Cue Eric! I reached out to a couple of repair guys for a quote and Eric gave me the best one AND the hope that my laptop could be saved (I had a couple others tell me it wasn't worth the fix; mind you, my computer itself worked fine still - I just had to plug in an external monitor to get anything productive done). He was timely with messages, and even let me know that some parts were missing for repair and ordered it for me. His quote was reasonable in comparison to the cost of a brand new laptop and now that I've had it back for a couple weeks; I can honestly say it feels brand new. Instead they tried to tell me I need much more expensive repairs. I order the JB weld for $6 and fixed it myself. Now the owner is out $100 and get a bad review for being dishonest. Edit 2: oh so you didn't lie about talking to me you just so overwhelmed you couldn't remember all the people that you spoke to which is why you said you didn't speak to me. And you're not dishonest you are incompetent because you had to quote a much more expensive repair instead of doing quick repair. I was originally going to go the RMA route with Costco where I got the PC bundle from originally, as it was still under warranty. But Costco insisted they reserve the right to unilaterally delete all the data on my PC during the free fix. And backing up the data myself at that point would mean voiding my warranty with Costco Daniel was really helpful with explaining the list of options I could go down -- whether it was just for him to backup my data in a way to retain my Costco warranty and then have Costco fix the motherboard for free -- or have Daniel do a semi-rebuild of my PC, replacing the motherboard with something that isn't just going to crap out in another year or two like the first one. I went with the latter, and I'm glad I did. And Daniel was way quicker with the turnaround than I expected, got me my PC back in a week, just before they closed for the weekend. I also got a free month of their tech support service with the purchase. Great shop, would recommend! (assuming my PC holds up for years to come, which I feel very confident it will)

I went online, ordered my components, then took the long drive to Micro Center to pick everything up. When I got home, I jumped straight into the building process. Once I had everything squared away, I was ready to turn my new machine on. Unfortunately, I was unable to get my new computer to post the motherboard screen on the monitor. I tried to everything to get it to work including completely rebuilding the machine. Still nothing... I was super bummed at this time now. The next morning was Sunday. I woke up early and initially drove to Frys in San Marcos to see what was up. The lead repair guy at Frys was super rude and wanted to charge me $90 to perform a diagnosis !!! I left very upset and unsure what to do and where to go... I went on Yelp and began calling around computer repairs in North County. Most places didn't answer as it was Sunday. I then called Computer Problem Solvers and they were so nice. If I recall correctly, they were very busy at their Encinitas location and would have had a hard time seeing me that day but I was fortunate enough to get a call from Anthony who was happy to look at the computer at his home office in Oceanside. I drove to Anthony's home office and explained the situation to him. I left my desktop for him and went across the street for a quick beer while he looked at the rig. Within 20 minutes or so, I get a call that the machine was now posting to screen and ready for pick up!! I was so extremely happy and relieved. I spent so much time and effort trying to get this thing running but needed Anthony to work his magic :) Thankfully Anthony and Computer Problem Solvers were open on a Sunday and willing to help my poor soul (and for a very reasonable price I might add).
