I was able to setup a reservation with CMBR for a large group. This was for 15 sleds (snowmobiles) in early March. I did most of the coordinating through email, which was easy and hassle free. Upon arriving at the rental shop, we got some gear, if needed, and signed waivers. The gals working the shop were friendly, mellow, and had plenty of jokes! We drove ourselves to the trailhead (Francis Wallace parking lot). The parking area was a bit slushy, but we managed with two minivans - and some knowhow. Upon arriving at the lot, a tech went through a brief orientation on how to operate the sleds. You are able to sled right out of the parking lot and onto the trails. The trails go on what would be forest roads in the summer season. There are some stops to make along the way with great views and a snowed-in restaurant worth a quick drink. After a few hours on the trails, we returned to the lot where the techs collected the sleds. Afterwards, you do have to drive the helmets and gear back to the rental shop in town, but easy enough. Make sure you have water, food and dress warm with under layers. We had a great time despite snow levels being below normal. Lunch was great and the hot springs were amazing. So..... our first attempt was horrible. It was 9 degrees that day and we rented 3 snowmobiles for a family of 5. My oldest is 20 so he had his own and we were about 45 min into our day when the machine started sending alarms and overheating. We tried packing it w ice and letting rest and tried to head back which ended taking about two plus hours . After 40 min and going only 1/4 mile we decided I would head back and get help . By now the snowmobile was smoking . I head in and they told me that there are no extra machine and started to walk away . There is no cell service at all on the whole route and even at the lot you start at . I'm like hey !' It's 9 degrees and they are stuck what are you going to do ?! I wanted to leave the machine and have 3 people on one machine and slowly head back but my husband was worried that they charge us for it . One of the two guys said he was heading out with a group and would stop for a minute and see if it's a quick fix or coolant. I asked if he could give me the coolant and he said there was only one . He had group of 3 people and they were newbies. Did I tell you one of my 14 yr old twins refused to wear his long johns even though we told him it was essential for 9 degrees. We starts heading out and his machine started smoking. He couldn't go any further. So I found rest of my family and they had to ditch the machine by the payette park sign . Once we were warm and in town I called . They were aware of situation and gave us all our money back no argument, they just apologized that made me respect them . It took us hours to get back . We started at 9 and it was noon before the family was back together at the lot. I was surprised when my family asked if we could try again so i called back and they hooked us up and gave a small discount and they also spoke to Burgdorf and got our money back and was able to reschedule our hot springs even though there were no appointments available. Yes I recommend this company because we had amazing time the second time and when things went bad they stepped up and did the right thing . read more

My two girlfriends and I planned an Idaho hot springs road trip and when the other rental place called me two days before our rental to canceled I was so nervous we wouldn't get to have this experience. But CM Backcountry saved the day and got us two practically brand new snowmobiles for our trip to Burgdorf Hot Springs. I'm so glad I ended up working with this company instead of their competitor. They provided all the snow equipment: jackets, pants, shoes, gloves, helmet. Non of us have ever driven a snowmobile before too and they showed us and sent us on our way with a breeze! I highly recommending working with this great company!! They will take really great care of you and their equipment was in excellent condition, felt clean and was so convenient. There is quite a bit of opportunity for this whole set up to be ran much better and more efficiently. You start out at their office just as you enter town. This seemed a little pointless to sign a piece of paper and swipe our credit card when it was already on file, (unless you need equipment) your then instructed to drive back across town, turn just after shore lodge and drive down 8 miles to the parking lot where the snow mobiles are. Here you sign a couple more pieces of paper before taking off. Thanks to Cody not showing up at our rental time, they didn't have any trail to maps to give us. And while we were told the trails are pretty straight forward- it isn't as straightforward when your one of the first snow mobiles down the trail and signs are snowed over making them very easy to miss. Naturally every crossroad was just a guess on our part. As a result, we missed some stops that we would have otherwise liked to stop at. Thankfully for us, the fun run was taking place on the same day so we came across a few tent stations on our way up the trail- they were pretty surprised we weren't provided a map but were kind enough to help direct us. Secondarily, the only equipment we borrowed was a helmet, one would logically think you could turn in the equipment when you return the sled. Turns out that's not the case, they made use drive back across town just to return one helmet. I suppose customer service is a bit of an after thought here. They also give you a number to call if you get stuck or lost, only thing is there is no cell reception up in the hills, at all. They would be better off providing a radio you could use in an emergency like other rental company's we have used do. Although the rental prices and equipment are good we likely won't rent from this company again just due to the hassle and lack of preparation. We would have undoubtably had a much better experience if we were provided with the bare minimum of a map and didn't have the hassle of trekking across town twice. read more

Don't rent here. I was the second lessee on a SxS and there was some major miscommunication between their staff and management/owner. The employee gave us information regarding our rental return and confirmed the information on two separate occasions. Later, in the middle of the rental, my fiancee and I received an email stating different rental return time. Eventually my fiancee got a hold of Cody M, who said he was just an employee then five minutes later explained he was the owner. What? Was he not trying to be accountable for the business or miscommunication? Initially he was rude and I thought we caught him on a bad day but then the following verbal diarrhea flopped out of his slack jaw: Cody said, "Maybe 8 years ago when I was starting out I would care about customer service." His lack of professionalism was astonishing. It seemed as if he was trying to act like ahardass, to a woman... hard like lips on a duck. I wanted to reach through the phone and smack him upside his fat head. There you have it, Cody is doing so well he doesn't need, or care about, your business. read more

Our rental was just terrible all the way around. We rented two side by sides (2 seater and 4 seater). The four seater broke down before we even hit the trails. They came to us and exchanged. The two seater was missing a very important piece (safety hazard). It broke down in the mountains. We tried calling several times and when we finally reached them they were not kind. They wanted us to drive the 15 miles back to town only being able to reach 20 mph risking damaging something else. We returned that for a refund. The four seater lasted just half a day longer before it had the same issues. We were only able to hit 10mph if we were able to move at all. Being in the mountains with this is not good. The machines are very poorly maintained. We returned that one for a refund as well. They really could have cared less that our whole trip was planned around these rentals. Cody was terrible to work with. For the refund we had to remind them of several items such as "overnight" fees (which are bs to start with) and insurance that needed to be refunded as well. I would HIGHLY recommend steering clear of this place if possible as you WILL be stranded. read more

After going on a 4 hour snowmachine ride I thought I would write an update. The ride was beautiful and getting out to burgdorf was awesome! Renting the gear was super easy and the folks at CM rock. While the folks who run CM are awesome. For the cost, we thought there would be better equipment and gear. This is coming from someone who is an avid rider, a beginner probably wouldn't notice the things mentioned below. The gear works pretty well but it's on the cheap side. My brother put his hands under the exhaust to warm his fingers but the exhaust melted his gloves. He has been riding for years and never had this problem. Due to the hand warmers on the machine being broken Cody the owner waived the fee for the gloves, which was cool and honest of him. They had limited breath deflectors for helmets which prevent frost bite on the nose and keep your goggles clear of fog. They do have some balaclavas to help keep your face warm. The machines could be better maintained, especially for the price paid. The hand warmers stopped working on the machine to a point of extreme pain on my fingers. The front bumper was duck taped on to one machine. These are important when plowing through powder. Only one machine had a tether which is extremely important for safety should your machine tip, with a tether your machine will automatically shut down as opposed to taking off on you and putting yourself and others in danger. The gas cap on one machine was broken and the gauge missing. It was jimmy rigged by a plastic bag and broken cap. When one machine did tip gas came spilling out, which isn't a huge deal but still it is disconcerting. Your rental doesn't come with a shovel or tow rope should you get stuck. Last but not least they expect you to mark all damage on the machine, but if you have little to no knowledge of machines you wouldn't know what to mark or what to look for thus leaving you at risk of hefty repair fees. Thankfully CM is real honest about what is broken. Lastly, I would like to suggest to CM to offer guided rides for newbies. We were lucky to have my brother along who is an amazing rider but without him it would be rally easy to get into some serious trouble. Nonetheless we had an awesome time and thanks to the CM staff for getting us rentals and taking care of us. read more

You need more stars to select from, CM Backcountry made our snowmobile trip something we will never forget. We utilized their private guide service and I highly recommend doing this. My husband and I brought our own snowmobiles so this was strickly a guided tour. We thought they would just take us around the trails and maybe off trail a little to give us a taste of the area. Luke Youngberg, our private guide took us in areas that we would never be able to find on our own, he stretched our limits of which we were looking for on this trip, we spent 3 seperate days with Luke and they were worth every penny spent and then some. On a last minute whim we decided to rent some ATV's and cruise around brundage. Driving by CM we stopped in and Cody was ready to help us out! We signed a few papers, watched a quick video and then headed out! The equipment is all brand new (my 4 wheeler had less than 100 miles on it) and we had a blast. Very bad service! Equipment is old and breaks down. Don't use unless you just want to ride around the block and if it breaks down and you have kids with you they still want you to get it back to them! We had to push one back to the company the third break down! There is a new company in town. I would suggest checking them out first unless you have time on your hands to set on side of road or out somewhere on trails! read more

Hard to express what a great day we had! Rented two 4 seater Razors and had a great time. The Monroe's are exceptional to work with. They are great and their equipment is flawless.
