Wha-laaa YBD Elmhurst opened up sometime in October of 2013 and it's almost a carbon copy of their Wheaton location. How can a fitness studio be so spanking clean and fresh? I don't know about the men's locker room, but the women's freaking rocks! Hair dryers, shampoo/conditioner, hair products, HAIR TIES!, I mean you name it and they'll probably have it. It's so clean that I feel comfortable walking around barefoot, which I would never have done at big chain gyms. I've done mainly the level 2 classes, have yet to get in for a sculpt class (my favorite), but the instructors have always been knowledgeable and provides modification for the harder movements. As a CrossFitter I truly believe CrossFit and Yoga are meant to be. My muscles are really tight and sore from CrossFit and although it hurts to stretch them it's a good pain. Yoga allows me to relax my muscles and stretch out all the sore spots. I recommend YBD to all levels of Yogis especially since you can try them out for free for a whole week! I mean what's better than free?

They've all taken the time to introduce themselves when I arrive and have sometimes asked about my background in yoga (I am a RYT so it's nice to chat a bit more in depth about yoga with a fellow teacher). The studio not only offers a diverse array of styles of yoga, but they also provide yogis with all the necessary props so we don't have to lug bolsters, blankets and blocks to and from. I've taken their heated classes as well as nonheated and have had a beautiful experience in both climates. The professionals running this business are informative and prompt in their correspondence. The studio is ALWAYS clean, fresh, and perfectly set up for a peaceful, harmonious practice. I often get pulled into the beautiful artwork on the walls as I flow through my practice (which is better than getting distracted by unappealing paint chips or worn out ceiling tiles as I have had the experience in other studios). If you're looking for a new yoga studio in the western suburbs that offers classes for beginners, seasoned practitioners, expecting mom's, teens or children then you DEFINITELY need to get to Ahimsa. They have multiple locations and their prices/class packages are VERY reasonable especially for the quality of instruction you will experience!

I've been searching on and off for the perfect yoga studio: one with early morning and after-work…read moreclasses, a variety of classes, clean bathrooms with showers, and reasonable prices. You'd think with all the fitness centers and yoga studios out there, that it wouldn't be hard to find something that fit that criteria for me. Unfortunately, it is. Then I heard about CorePower. I actually heard about CorePower a couple years ago from a friend in Colorado, but there were no studios near me. In the past few year, I've noticed more CorePower studios opening up into the suburbs of Chicago. Finally, last fall, I signed up here for the trial week of free yoga. The first class I took was lovely. The heat was turned up (kind of unexpected -- it wasn't a heated class), the lights were dim, the studio was small, and I left feeling wonderful. I didn't like, however, how the instructor spent most of her time talking & walking around instead of participating in the full workout with us. I guess that's a matter of personal preference, though. She did stop to show us certain poses or to correct us if we needed to fix ours. The class ended with a lavender-soaked cool towel across the forehead. It was so nice. The next few classes I took by different instructors were all very similar. I would have liked a little more variety. Routine is nice, but so is change. Then again, you can only experience so much in a week... This CorePower location is great: clean showers, clean locker rooms (bring your own lock), and a nice little area in the front to sit and relax or buy some [expensive] yoga clothes and accessories. This location also has its' own parking lot (with three-hour free parking) which is a plus in downtown Elmhurst. At least I know I won't have to worry about parking whenever I'm here. As much as I wanted to, I didn't sign up for the membership. Although $100-120 a month (I cannot recall the exact amount) is very good for a yoga studio, it just wasn't in my budget. Maybe some day....

Nestled by the Wheaton train station (where they have a French market every Saturday), this small studio is impressive. I've been going to tribalance for some time, but found this studio that's closer to me and more my vibe. I used to practice Bikram (before the scandal) in Cali and this place has that cool Cali/city vibe. It's immaculately clean and the showers have such good water pressure. The classes are what you expect them to be, HOT, intense, and oh so rewarding. My joints and back always feel phenomenal after class. And the staff are so warm and friendly. Shout out to Becky and Agata for their continued support in my yoga journey. Pro tip: On Saturdays (while the French market is open), give yourself a half an hour extra from the time you usually leave your home as parking can be challenging, and you don't want to be late. This studio is absolutely amazing and I cannot recommend it enough…read more The Offerings: Whether you are a complete newbie or beginner at aerial fitness or an advanced student who has been involved for years, there are classes tailored for both your skill and comfort level. They have quality classes for pole fitness, aerial hammocks, aerial hoop (lyra), hula hoop, stretching, cardio dance, aerial yoga, and more. I came as an advanced pole fitness student, and they worked with me to place me accordingly between pole, lyra, and hammock. The Staff: Not only are they incredibly knowledgeable about what they're teaching, they're some of the most genuine and nicest individuals I've had the pleasure of being instructed by. They are also constantly celebrating their students through different ways, including events at the studio, outings at fun places, holiday celebrations, or small personal notes. The Vibe: Not only are the instructors amazing, so are the students. At no point did I ever feel unwelcome when I was new to the studio or taking a class out of my comfort zone. We are always laughing, having fun, and constantly encouraging one another. Not only have I made new friends here, but it's always fun to be a personal cheerleader (and have them) in class! Body positivity is also a thing. We also have students of all ages, shapes, and sizes, and they are all truly beautiful. Bottom-line: If you are on the fence about trying classes, you absolutely should give it a go.

Love how many pole, aerial, and dance rooms there are, as well as a kitchen for special events. Everyone was super friendly, to the point where I had to excuse myself from conversation because I was a few minutes late to class. Oops. Audrey was the instructor, and she taught so many fun and accessible combos! Not sure when I'll be back in Oak Brook again but would love to take more classes in the future.

No matter where you are in your fitness journey, there is a place for you here, and instructors are more than willing to offer modifications if you are having trouble. Of course there may be some personal preference differences in terms of music selection or flow, but there are enough different times and instructors to be able to pick and choose which class you would want to go to. I enjoy the variety they offer in terms of types of classes. I lean towards yoga sculpt, HIIT Pilates, and the 90 min traditional. Restorative I enjoy, but unless I was an unlimited member I may not partake in. There's tons of parking. The women's locker room is pretty roomy and has some nice amenities if needed. Recently I had a rare, coveted weekday sans children, so decided to treat myself to a yoga class. I still had an account that was easy to get back into when I signed up online for the single class. I normally do virtual yoga at home weekly, but decided to mix things up and do a Traditional Hot class, which I also haven't done in a few years. Before the actual class, I brushed up on the 26 poses. On the day of the class, I wasn't necessarily greeted warmly, and it seemed assumed that I was familiar with the studio and knew what I was doing. After introducing myself and explaining that I was new to the studio, the girl at the front desk was more friendly and welcoming. I also met Erin, the instructor for the Traditional Hot class, and she nicely showed me around. The class itself consisted of obvious regulars, which was interesting. I like that Erin gave clear instruction, correction, and tips both indirectly and directly (i.e. positioning support). Overall, I liked her as instructor and found her very informative, especially since Traditional Hot is not in my normal practice. Overall, I enjoyed the class and got a heck of a workout that I felt for days afterwards. The only things that I weren't a fan of was that she was very insistent on open eyes (I use yoga as a way to center and calm myself, and usually [unconsciously] close my eyes); she gave about 3 verbal reminders of open eyes during the practice. Also, she seemed to a little overtly correct me with some balancing poses that I was obviously struggling with. (I have Hallux Limitus [limited movement of my big toes] and degenerative arthritis in my feet). During the class, I continued persevering and modifying on my own, but was admittedly wobbly at times. I think that Erin was probably trying to be encouraging, but she was unaware of my physical limitations. I think that instructors might want to keep that in mind when interacting with students: someone might have limitations that are not readily apparent. I enjoyed mixing up my yoga practice with the Traditional Hot, but would probably continue to stick with YBD1 or 2 for any future classes I may attend.
