You'd think with all the fitness centers and yoga studios out there, that it wouldn't be hard to find something that fit that criteria for me. Unfortunately, it is. Then I heard about CorePower. I actually heard about CorePower a couple years ago from a friend in Colorado, but there were no studios near me. In the past few year, I've noticed more CorePower studios opening up into the suburbs of Chicago. Finally, last fall, I signed up here for the trial week of free yoga. The first class I took was lovely. The heat was turned up (kind of unexpected -- it wasn't a heated class), the lights were dim, the studio was small, and I left feeling wonderful. I didn't like, however, how the instructor spent most of her time talking & walking around instead of participating in the full workout with us. I guess that's a matter of personal preference, though. She did stop to show us certain poses or to correct us if we needed to fix ours. The class ended with a lavender-soaked cool towel across the forehead. It was so nice. The next few classes I took by different instructors were all very similar. I would have liked a little more variety. Routine is nice, but so is change. Then again, you can only experience so much in a week... This CorePower location is great: clean showers, clean locker rooms (bring your own lock), and a nice little area in the front to sit and relax or buy some [expensive] yoga clothes and accessories. This location also has its' own parking lot (with three-hour free parking) which is a plus in downtown Elmhurst. At least I know I won't have to worry about parking whenever I'm here. As much as I wanted to, I didn't sign up for the membership. Although $100-120 a month (I cannot recall the exact amount) is very good for a yoga studio, it just wasn't in my budget. Maybe some day....

Additionally, the classes are consistently overcrowded, making it hard to get a good workout. Be careful: if you miss a class, they hit you with a very pricey "no-show" fee. The instructors here are TOP NOTCH and make me feel so excited and empowered to push myself and get stronger every time I come. The owners are also incredible women that have created the most welcoming, inspiring community here that you could ever ask for. The community is so kind and there is no toxic environment here. Just supportive members, staff and owners. The goal in this building is to become a stronger you, mentally and physically-- NOT to just lose weight/get skinny. No matter where you are in your fitness journey, there is a place for you here, and instructors are more than willing to offer modifications if you are having trouble. I'll be honest-- the unlimited membership is expensive for me, but worth every last penny because there's nowhere else I'd wake up at 4:45am to go workout at day after day! If you're thinking of trying out Pure Barre, I would highly highly recommend trying the free trial class, and I hope you end up loving it as much as I do!

I'm on track to complete 17 classes during this time. All of the instructors I've practiced with have lead a nice class. Of course there may be some personal preference differences in terms of music selection or flow, but there are enough different times and instructors to be able to pick and choose which class you would want to go to. I enjoy the variety they offer in terms of types of classes. I lean towards yoga sculpt, HIIT Pilates, and the 90 min traditional. Restorative I enjoy, but unless I was an unlimited member I may not partake in. There's tons of parking. The women's locker room is pretty roomy and has some nice amenities if needed. Recommend it, if you're in the area.

Recently I had a rare, coveted weekday sans children, so decided to treat myself to a yoga class. I still had an account that was easy to get back into when I signed up online for the single class. I normally do virtual yoga at home weekly, but decided to mix things up and do a Traditional Hot class, which I also haven't done in a few years. Before the actual class, I brushed up on the 26 poses. On the day of the class, I wasn't necessarily greeted warmly, and it seemed assumed that I was familiar with the studio and knew what I was doing. After introducing myself and explaining that I was new to the studio, the girl at the front desk was more friendly and welcoming. I also met Erin, the instructor for the Traditional Hot class, and she nicely showed me around. The class itself consisted of obvious regulars, which was interesting. I like that Erin gave clear instruction, correction, and tips both indirectly and directly (i.e. positioning support). Overall, I liked her as instructor and found her very informative, especially since Traditional Hot is not in my normal practice. Overall, I enjoyed the class and got a heck of a workout that I felt for days afterwards. The only things that I weren't a fan of was that she was very insistent on open eyes (I use yoga as a way to center and calm myself, and usually [unconsciously] close my eyes); she gave about 3 verbal reminders of open eyes during the practice. Also, she seemed to a little overtly correct me with some balancing poses that I was obviously struggling with. (I have Hallux Limitus [limited movement of my big toes] and degenerative arthritis in my feet). During the class, I continued persevering and modifying on my own, but was admittedly wobbly at times. I think that Erin was probably trying to be encouraging, but she was unaware of my physical limitations. I think that instructors might want to keep that in mind when interacting with students: someone might have limitations that are not readily apparent. I enjoyed mixing up my yoga practice with the Traditional Hot, but would probably continue to stick with YBD1 or 2 for any future classes I may attend.

I came here after purchasing my first Groupon and I was unsure of whether the 120 day expiration meant that I had 120 days to activate it or 120 days to use up all the classes. I asked Paul and he told me that I would have a year to use up the classes. Several months later, I went back to use up the classes and Karen told me I owed them money if I wanted to take another class, and to take it up with Groupon to get my money back. I explained to her what Paul told me, and she was extremely unfriendly and basically pushed me out of their business. What kind of business doesn't honor what they tell their customers? In terms of yoga classes, they were only okay. I went to my very first yoga class with Paul as the instructor and I had no idea what I was doing. He didn't bother to help me so I felt like I was doing it wrong the whole time. Since then, I've taken better yoga classes where the instructors actually help correct your poses or push you to improve your practice.
