This is a place of peace and serenity. My first visit I took a hot yoga class. When I walked inside, I instantly felt good positive energy. I was greeted upon entering, introduced and was taking on a tour of this wonderful establishment. The yoga instructor and class were phenomenal. I have been to many places for yoga classes and never felt the warm embrace. My second visit I came for the Salt Cave. I love this place. If your ever feeling stress or restless. This place will relax your mind, body and soul. Essencia Studio has a warm and inviting feeling. Amazing instructors, holistic health benefits and many other classes and workshops. The facility includes a salt room, sauna, cold plunge room, locker rooms, a kitchen, and a nice cozy lounge area. A mini place away from home with good vibes and energy. The aerial soundbath I experienced at the venue was absolutely surreal. It was an experience that was truly special from start to finish. The session itself was deeply calming and restorative, and the beautiful venue in Wheaton made it even more meaningful. My experience in the Essencia Vitalis Salt Room was wonderful. I find the whole studio to be a beautiful space. You can tell it's been curated with so much creativity and intention. From the moment I walked in, I felt peaceful and relaxed. I ended up having the best nap ever in the salt room, and afterward my breathing felt noticeably clearer and lighter. Someone should review this place who goes regularly...but since no one has...I stopped by once for a Sunday evening drop-in class (Candlelight Restorative Yoga, 8pm); it was very easy and stress-free. Equipment is provided (mats, bolsters, bricks). The teacher mostly used the names of the poses and when we didn't quite have a pose, was happy to come over and help us improve our form. Very open and welcoming and extremely affordable; it's hard to beat a $10 drop-in. Offers 3 classes a week at 6pm or later, which is nice. read more

I have practiced at several studios in my home city (Washington, DC), and was really impressed with Essencia. The studio is warm, inviting and comfortable. Not like a lot of the super-slick gym-style yoga studios popping up these days. It has a natural, authentic feel and a tremendous energy. You can tell the place was built with love. I was there for an Ashtanga class. It was my first Ashtanga class ever (previously, a lot of Vinyasa, Hatha, and Bikram), and it was fantastic. The session was led by one of the students going through teacher training, and she was very present throughout. I highly recommend this place! read more

I took a class here earlier today lead by Mary and Rachel. The space is beautiful and the class was wonderful. I felt so comfortable and their assistance in poses was very helpful and non threatening. I truly thought Mary was a great instructor; the practice she lead was so fluid and engaging. I am very new to yoga - I know what downward facing dog is and that's about it. I was trying to find a place to start yoga for stress relief and I found Essencia. They have a restoration class on Sunday nights from 8-9pm, which is perfect to start a new week off with. The music and lighting created a very nice relaxing ambiance; mats and pillows were provided. The instructor was extremely polite and very helpful with the poses - super friendly. It was absolutely awesome and I would recommend this place to anyone. I am very excited to continue taking classes there and possibly branching out and trying some other ones. Breathtaking! Essencia Yoga's Teacher Training program is nothing short of breathtaking! Jeannine has such an amazing gift of bringing out the light in each and every one of her students. Her energy is palpable. As an avid learner, I hold many certificates, but this one landed a place in my heart like no other. The program itself was well-rounded and included many facets of yoga. From asana to pranayama and beyond, expect a journey with this program! Jeannine is well read and understands yoga as a big picture, and is a lifestyle she lives by. Hidden Gem For a long time, I wanted to start practicing yoga again. This September I was burned out from my routine at the gym and also was struggling with leg pain from running 10+ miles a week. I finally mustered up the courage to fall flat on my face a few dozen times and start practicing yoga again. I have to thank the reviewers on Yelp for helping me find Essencia. I would have never found it, in spite of driving by it nearly weekly when the Wheaton French Market is happening. This was my criteria: I didn't want some crazy hot yoga place that was going to kill me; I didn't want to compete with others - in ability or fashion; I wanted to find a place that would honor the restorative benefits of yoga; and I wanted to reap the physical as well as spiritual benefits that practicing yoga provides. I could not have found a more perfect place than Essencia. My only hesitation in writing this review, is that more people will uncover this hidden gem, that for me is a very sacred and safe space. But I will let Jeanine deal with that! As far as what I did, I used the unlimited week pass and by the third day I knew that I was in the right place. My instructors include: Rachel, Mary, Katie, Valerie, David, Sami, Corie, Farrah, Katari and Lisa. Rachel Rusin, was my first instructor and welcomed me like an old friend. She is a wonderful instructor, under which I grow stronger every day. I love her thoughtfulness and planning, her incorporation of feedback and her humility as a teacher, who is too a student. Second to Rachel, I practice most with Mary Rittenhouse-Howard. Mary, who without judgement, and with grace and confidence mentors me and many others. Her humor and light are omnipresent. Every instructor brings their own personality and gifts to the mat. I never walk away feeling unfulfilled. I currently practice on average six days a week at Essencia. I have a monthly membership. The schedule of classes is great and works well with my own personal and professional schedules. Physically I have never felt better. Mentally and spiritually it grounds me like nothing else. I have met Jeannine, the founder and owner several times. There is light and goodness around her. I believe that each of her instructors are an extension of Jeannine. I am writing this, first because I am grateful. Second, because I love Essencia. And last, because Yelp led me there. As we enter the new year, and look forward as well as back, many of us will evaluate our physical and spiritual well-being. If finding a place with a diverse community, of men and women of all ages, where you will grow, then without hesitation I recommend that you do not pass Go! I am currently in their teacher training program and can't say enough about it. The best part is it is FLEXIBLE! Yes...Jeannine (founder) works around MY schedule. I can work at my own pace, but still be among peers who are learning along side of me. The training is very comprehensive and expertly organized. I have owned my own dance studio for 10 years and have big expectations of other studios. Essencia exceeded them. When I signed up for this I expected to become an expert in asana's. What I learned is that yoga is so much deeper than that. I can honestly say it's been life changing for me in very tangible ways. This place began solely as a teacher training studio, however, they turned out so many talented, well trained teachers they had to add in classes! The classes are wonderful. I drive in early and stay late to learn from this awesome group of instructors. They always give extra time to their students and it is very apparent that they genuinely care about the practices of their clients. Each one has a unique gift to share with their yogi's. These people have no pretenses and are the most welcoming group you could ever hope to meet. The studio is small and beautiful. Traditionally decorated and very warm, you feel at home as soon as you walk in. Jeannine has a huge heart and it comes across in everything she does. You can see it in her studio, in her students, in her instructors, and in her children who are always at home among the yogis. This place isn't a yoga studio, it's a yoga family.
