If you're looking for an indoor tennis membership, Wheaton Sport Center (WSC) is an excellent choice. They have friendly staff, efficient service, and adequate facilities and equipment. For our family, WSC serves multiple purposes. My husband is an active tennis player who tries to play at least twice a week. Considering how brutally cold Chicago winters are, it wouldn't be feasible to play outdoors during the winter months. So with WSC, he has been able to find a community of players to play throughout the winter. On the weekends, my husband would give our young girls and cousins private tennis lessons. There are four, all year-round, indoor courts, and eight dome courts for the winter. We have been consistently going every weekend for the last four months and have yet to encounter any availability issues. In addition to tennis, our girls have also joined the swimming lessons. For level 3, there are usually 2-4 instructors. Thus far, we have had a good experience with Ms. Abby, Mr. Christopher, and Ms. Christina. The class size is generally around 8-12 kids depending on attendance. Knowing how young children are, it takes a ton of effort and patience to get them to listen to instructions. Huge kudos to these instructors for having that high-level patience! As for myself, I would utilize the gym equipment such as treadmills, ab machines, and weights. All of the equipment are well maintained and clean. WSC could get busy on the weekends but I have not had trouble with machine availability. All in all, WSC is a solid place for anybody looking for a place to play indoor tennis, have young children who are interested in swimming, and/or just trying to maintain healthy life choices. read more

After learning how important ADA laws are for people: this place is amazing. Both boys had an interpreter. The coach even knew some signs she used with my 12 year old when the interpreter was with my 11 year old. The staff are trained in handling ADA accommodations. read more

For anybody looking for an indoor tennis membership, WSC is excellent. I checked out other places, but none had the same staff and service. It's one thing to have the facilities and equipment, which it certainly does. It's quite another when you get people who work to make your experience better. That's just what Linda Wright, Tennis Relations Coordinator, has done in just my first two weeks there by connecting me to other tennis players at my level. There are 14 tennis courts available. 4 of them are inside all year round. The other courts are covered in the winter-time giving members a lot more availability during these cold months. There are LOTS of programs and activities that you can sign up for at an additional cost to help you improve your game or just keep you active and have fun. Love that there's something for people at all levels - women and men alike! The reservation system is easy to use and modern. There's a WSC app, but you can also use the website to sign up for programs, activities, or reserve a court up to six days in advance. All in all, a solid place for anybody looking for a place to play tennis and find a community of other players. read more

Steam room seats 3 people. 4 if the one dude sitting by the steam outlet doesn't mind having the hair burned off his legs. Dated facility that needs a refresh. Spa appointment was "lost," no discount given, and was hung up during phone call with no call back. Workout class selection is very minimal for working professionals (no myZone) during afternoon or evening hours for over 3 months. Like many others on here have said, by far the biggest problem with this place is their staff and management. They all have an attitude problem but in reality their gym sucks and I'll tell you why. For starters, everyone in the locker rooms are naked. Naked at all times. Naked while getting dressed, naked while talking, eating, drinking, smoking, gooch flossing you name it they are naked. I do not understand why they are all SO naked and large. Second, the place just feels so dirty. The white towels often have brown stains on them, the tennis courts smell like cigarettes, the pool area is "sticky" and the basketball court smells like a mix between middle school locker room and flatulence from the Taco Bell crunch wrap supreme. There are many more things to complain about but I will conclude with the parking. As others on here have mentioned, there is no parking anywhere near this place. Be prepared to walk nearly 2 miles in the dead of winter just to get in. read more

It's a fantastic club. Everything there you would ever want in a fitness facility. The lounge area is great for cooling off, having a coffee, and talking to friends or meeting new people. While a great facility that we enjoyed for years, we had to end our membership this week. With no notice and less than 1 hour before practice on Friday, the management of this club shut down the Sting Ray swim team with nothing more than a sketchy explanation which doesn't hold its weight. They claim "finances" - however dues and program economics would have been known months ago. The coaches of the team, in fact, did not hear of this decision until the same vague email received by the parents. My daughter and all the kids saw their season abruptly ended mid season, with many of them chasing Regional and State times. Claiming to be a "Neighborhood Club", this was such a low blow to these "neighborhood" kids, highly inconsiderate, and handled in such an unprofessional and cold manner. Say that "finances" really was true as the issue - they could have gone about this so differently, and likely found a way to get the kids through the winter regional and done right by them. The club let the season start. However, cold hard profiteering won over honoring their commitment to the kids. The public needs to be aware of this low class move - as I feel that it reflects on the values of the clubs management. read more

Pretty good place. Hours should be open to ten like other clubs throughout the region, since we want to play and recreate after work. They have the money as the place is always packed and it isn't cheap. Our tennis couple fee is about $220 per month plus initiation fees. They do a nice job and have a good facility and fellow members but I have heard gripes about cleanliness and prime time court availability, especially since Covid and fewer staff members work there these days. The Pilates and yoga are good but not great, except for a couple teachers that are great but do not seem to get to teach often enough. Tennis is basically self monitored as they never do club tournaments or anything like that, and prime time courts tough to get with high school and college teams renting the space. Owners have run a decent place but it can get better. read more

I have been a member for over 10 years and was treated poorly by a scolp yoga instructor JMiller. she was extremely rude asking who opened the door to the studio because I got to class 15 minutes before start time and it was concerning to her that I let myself in. A week before that she locked the door and won't let me in at 8:01 saying class starts at eight. Sorry you're too late. I left her class as she was practically yelling at me in front of other attendees. I sent a detailed email the club manager and no one called, or replied to my email. highly disappointed and I'm debating if I should go back to the club. read more

Super impressive facility. On a business trip to Chicago, I visited a friend who has a membership here. We met for tennis, but I also got to see the other amazing options available to members. The entire place was immaculately clean, the locker rooms provide everything that one might need to get ready for the day after a hard workout, and the lounge area is large and inviting. To top it off, the staff were all super friendly and helpful. If I lived here, I would be all about the Wheaton Sport Center. read more

We enjoy this gym- it's nice and clean though seriously thinking if canceling our membership after some serious issues with the new class schedule. They cancelled all the popular cardio/interval morning classes and we're left with maybe 1 or 2 9:30 classes/week. They need to add more interval strength! The morning gym crowd can't get in a 8:30 or 10:30- not sure why they would cancel such a popular class. We understand the day needed to be changed- but not the time. I'll change my rating when they improve the classes and change the schedule back to its original. If you are thinking of joining - I would definitely hold off for the time being! read more

A terrific gym. The Wheaton areas best,. Not everything is perfect.. the indoor running track is hazardous. But overall a very well run place with great, friendly staff and excellent equipment. I don't play tennis but am told the facilities are very good. The class schedules are very good, offering plenty of options. in several different studios. The have a mind/body studio (yoga - pilates etc...) which I avoid like the plague because not only do I look stupid doing that stuff... IT HURTS! The weight room has a bevvy of benches, a great assortment of dumbells (the ones you lift, not the ones lifting them) and loads of machines. Pick heavy things up and put them back down again... feel pretty good about yourself! The open floor areas can get kind of crowded, but you can always find a place to get your stretch on. Spacious locker rooms with a large assortment of toiletries. Free coffee and a great lounge make for a great finish to a great workout. read more

Since I began working out at WSC about 2 years ago, I have loved the environment. The employees are kind, and the community of weightlifters is beyond encouraging. Everything has been great up until yesterday. As I've learned, my brother was asked by his friend to bring him his sweatshirt that he forgot at the gym. Being a good friend, my brother agreed. He found the only remaining sweatshirt at the gym and brought it home, expecting to bring it to his friend in a day or two when he next saw him. Once he got home, he went to toss it in the washer to make life a little easier on his friend. Turns out--someone's keys were in the sweatshirt. My brother contacted his friend, who replied that he had taken the wrong sweatshirt. Of course, he knew that he needed to return the property as soon as possible in order to get it back to its rightful owner. Yesterday, my brother brought the sweatshirt and keys back, apologizing for inconveniencing whoever owned them. It was an honest mistake! The management didn't seem to think so. A few minutes into his workout he was called down and told he must leave immediately. He was accused of stealing another person's property on camera. Can you believe it? His kind gesture was completely misconstrued by the manager. As a result, he had to walk over two miles back home in low 40-degree weather. Once I heard the news, I went downstairs to talk to the woman who kicked him out. The two women at the desk were understanding about the situation, but the third woman, one of the managers--Rebecca, I believe,--was not so understanding. When I asked for more information, she replied, in a disrespectful tone, "This situation is between the general manager and his [my brother's] parents." I stated that I drove him here, and she retorted with something along the lines of me "not being a very good brother" for not being able to drive him home. Her attitude was completely condescending, and it seemed like she thought less of me and my brother. I understand she is doing her job, but she exhibited none of the common human empathy that goes beyond occupational duties. As a side note, I have to do two hours of cardio a day in order to lose enough weight for wrestling; if she wanted to lose that weight for me while I drove my brother home, I would have been all for it. As of yesterday night, my brother has been suspended from the gym until January 1. It disgusts me that someone's intention to help another person, although it did inconvenience someone else, can result in their punishment. I understand this gym is a small scale operation in comparison to the US government, but I think the 8th amendment is food for thought here. I do not condone all of the other negative reviews posted here, as some are vulgar, unproductive, and unnecessarily aggressive. I'm sorry for those. However, I do believe that one bad apple can ruin the whole basket. Rebecca's treatment and the WSC's punishment of Geoffrey Moore are improper, and they further the notion that the management is attempting to rid the gym of high schoolers. This is a review of their spa. Did you know they have one? They offer facials, haircuts, manis, pedis and makeup application. I think they do spray tans too, but I'm not positive about that. It was time to take out my toes, but I was in need of a pedi. Time always seems short and those spa pedis can be soooo relaxing, I just didn't have the time. The WSC has a mini pedi which is only 30 minutes, so I was down for that! I made an appointment since I was going during my lunch hour and they are very strict about our 1 hour time limit. I thought I was set with the 30 minute pedi. There would be plenty of time to get over there, get the pedi and I could even hang out and eat my lunch there. I called ahead and was told that the nail technician was about 5-10 minutes behind. I thanked them for filling me in and told them I would be there 5 minutes after my appointment time. I arrived and waiting an extra 15 minutes! I was not happy! I felt like they weren't honest with me and there was no apology for running late. Yes, she was with a client when I arrived, but I didn't get any update about how long it would take. Once she started with me, she was very focused, friendly and soothing. She did a great job and I'll probably choose this option again, but I really want it on time! I had to scarf down my lunch at my desk when I got back to work and that's just not how to do a Friday! read more

I love working out and am new to the area. Checked with some neighbors who had at one time belonged to Wheaton Sport Center and thought I'd check it out. Went on a tour with someone but found the entire atmosphere in Wheaton Sport Center to be a downer. The entire place is outdated to say the least. It looks like something out of the 1980's. Their spa is so small I would hardly call it a spa. I quickly decided this is not the place for me! I went to Lifetime! Boy what a difference! People are warm and welcoming and so much more for your money. If you're looking for a great place to work out and have a true spa and swimming pool -- not to mention a cafe to eat and have a bite after a tough workout -- stay as far away from Wheaton Sport Center and check out Lifetime! read more

Mostly ok to work out here. Interaction with staff has been inconsistent. While some are very nice...many staff act like you are a stain in their day. I recently had an issue and went to ask the front desk for help. The woman at the front desk responded as if I were bugging her and taking her away from doing nothing. For a working mom, classes fill up quickly and times for classes are limited. Lots of machines updated, although there are still some that need updating for what we, as members, pay in membership fees. read more

Tonight I was playing basketball right before 9 PM which when it closes and I shot a basket well before 9 PM and the staff gets in my face start screaming at me and all my friends to get off the court and leave which is unacceptable because it was right before nine and we were about to leave right after. she constantly gets in my face and pushes me for me to give her my membership card And keep in mind I am 17 years old a minor and the staff work as well above 17 years old should not be pushing me yelling in my face when I'm trying to leave she would not let me out until I gave her my membership card she consistently pushes me and all of my friends saw it And can vouch for me I would not recommend this gym because of staff target young high school athletes were just trying to fun the gym I would not recommend any parent to drop off the kid there and think they are safe for the staff putting hands on young minors if I could give this gym a zero star I definitely would. read more

Recently came back to the club after mostly working out at home. Although I'm understanding that they aren't back to 100% I would appreciate a better selection of classes on Saturday mornings. The Yoga 1/2 is mostly stretching and the Zumba is meh, so leaves few options. Since they opened "The Studio" where you must pay an extra fee, many of the better yoga classes and instructors are no longer part of the "included" classes. Cardio Barre has excellent instructors - please don't make that an extra fee, too! read more

What a great place. State of the art equipment, beautiful indoor pool, tennis courts abound, friendly staff, awesome childcare....it just works. There's always sign-up specials going on and not having to sign any long-term contract is a bonus. And the monthly fees are reasonable, too. I find the tennis pros they have on hand to be knowledgeable and work very well with my 7yr old. The courts can be difficult to reserve during the peak hours but the online signup system makes it easy. The pool area consists of a lap pool (cold), another pool for the kids that's nice and heated and has a slide that they'll turn on upon request, and a couple of jacuzzis. I've also taken my son for swim lessons here and felt it was worth it. Great place to go during the 6 months of winter when Rice/Northside are closed so your kids can get some exercise and keep up with the swimming. You can reserve time at the childcare on the fly (doesn't have to be days in advance) for up to 2 hours at a time which is plenty of time to do your thing. The childcare staff seems friendly and there's never a shortage of games to play. My 4yr old girl even used to cry when it was time for her to leave. The only complaint I would have is that it seems there were a ton of new signups recently (Jan09) and I've had to wait some (never more than 5-10 mins) to get on a treadmill. Have never had that happen until recently. Still, if you live anywhere near WSC, you owe it to yourself to sign up! read more

Pricewise, it's very comparable to Lifetime in Warrenville. Depending on what amenities you care about, there are some differences -- WSC of course has the indoor/outdoor tennis courts and a very small indoor track (half the size of Rush Copley Healthplex if I remember right). Lifetime has the outdoor pool. If you love fitness classes, this is pretty much fitness class heaven. I don't think I've ever seen a schedule packed with so many options. The staff is very professional and pleasant, they have always been helpful when I've asked questions. Memberwise, most are pretty friendly. I used to have a schedule where I could come on weekday mornings, which is often a quieter time for gyms. Not so much here. Lots of mid morning classes and socializing out in the lounge area. 9 AM in my experience gets pretty slammed. There are quite a few classes and they all get out at the same time, I've had to stand in line for a while for showers. It seems like they could have used some more shower stalls when they redid the locker rooms, though I guess there's only so much room to put things like that. Hair dryers too can get hard to come by when they get slammed - not sure I've ever run into a problem getting a hair dryer in a gym locker room before joining there. Overall it's pretty busy a fair amount, but usually not obnoxiously so. Some classes, particularly in the mornings, require early registration as they fill up easily. The weight area is really nice with many options though can be pretty crowded at certain times. There is a decently sized floor area closer to the cardio machines as well for more free form exercise. Once you join, you don't get a bajillion phone calls and emails trying to push more services and options. Rush Copley Healthplex remains my favorite gym ever, but this one probably reminds me of it the most. I cancelled because my employer will pay 100% of my membership if I go to Lifetime, but I truly like this place better. read more

I didn't think I would ever love a fitness center more than I loved Edwards in Woodridge, but then I joined the WSC. This is more than a fitness center- it has the feel of a community center with a swim team, tournaments and tennis club. The group exercise schedule is impressive. I love to swim and there is always an open lane. The showers are clean. The spa is nice too. If you live in or around Wheaton, this is the only fitness center you need to look at. read more

I was a member for 13 years. I play tennis. First of all, it's impossible to get a parking spot in that lot. They are constantly recruiting new members, but they don't have the parking for it! Second, it was next to impossible to get the evening court time you want because most of the courts are taken up by kids lessons. Kids lessons should be right after school up until 6pm when the adults are off of work and want to play. Indoor courts are too hot. They only have one ceiling fan and it only cools one court. If you are lucky enough to get an indoor hard court, you'll be extremely disturbed by the kid lessons on the next court. The female instructors screeching at the kids is too much to take. Clay courts are too damp and dirty in the winter under the bubble. We ruin tons of balls in just 90 minutes. They get wet and dirty and impossible to play with. The lockers in the women's locker room always smell like stinky feet. I put up with it for 13 years ONLY because the court fees are basically built into your membership fees. The other tennis clubs charge less member fees but court fees are high. With three of us in my family playing tennis, it would have been too expensive to go anywhere else. All of the issues I have with this club were/are shared with my other tennis buddies. We have also brought these things to the attention of management. It's not like I am a person who is impossible to please, but I'll play outside in the spring and summer now. Not worth the money to belong to WSC anymore. Too much aggravation. read more

I've been a member since 2003 (wow). WSC helped me transform my 250 lbs figure into a 180 lbs mean machine (although not eating pizza, pasta, and other crappy food everyday helped) The staff is very friendly and personable. The only negative here is the some of the fellow members. Some feel they have a sense of entitlement for reasons that are beyond me. Every single gym stereotype exists here, including the rich wives club, the old guys who have no shame, and the middle aged women who spend 8 hours in the lounge everyday laughing obnoxiously at things that aren't really that funny. That being said, I love the WSC. It's pricey yes; but I'm much more comfortable here than a place liek Cardinal, where they are a bit overzealous. read more

SO MANY BETTER HEALTH CLUB OPTIONS IN THIS AREA!!! Our family had a full tennis membership there for almost two decades -- I believe it was 16-17 years to be exact. One of our kids was home during a summer college break and visited the club. She had been told her prior visit on winter break that our family had "plenty of guest passes" to use, as she had inquired into it with the desk clerk. However, when she showed up there the next time she was told there would be a $15 charge for bringing her guest, although we still had plenty of guest passes to use. Our family has rarely visited the sport center over the past 15+ years -- VERY RARELY. I called the club to question this, as it was an embarrassment to my daughter, and I was taken aback by their response -- especially given the number of years our family has contributed membership dues to WSC. I explained the situation to the manager and she said she would look into it. Later she called me back to inform me that she could NOT refund the $15 guest charge. So, I evidently the guest passes are NOT honored?? Clearly, this is a very short-sighted business decision to save $15. If handled in a different way, perhaps the outcome would be different. However, this made it clear that they do not value their longstanding members as much as they should. It definitely made our decision to CANCEL our membership easy, based on the principle alone. I tried to add my 6 year old grandson to mine and my wife's membership. So I go to management and they tell me it's just an extra $10 to add him. I agreed on the spot and we filled out the proper paperwork to finalize this. The next day I got a phone call saying I had to pay an extra $70 to enroll him. I was not told that when I first tried to sign him up. I have already filled out the paper work for $10.00 enrollment special for hi extra $18 a month and nothing else. Now the Wheaton sport center doesn't want to honor our signed and finalized paper work. I personally wouldn't have an issue paying the $70 but the call I got from 'management' was not professional and felt like they were trying to strong arm me. They should act like a proper establishment and honor our agreement. read more

Nice gym. Fantastic child care program. I don't use the classes but there are many options available. Weight room is perfect. Nothing fancy- just want you would need. Only thing missing is a few hammer strength machines. It's never too packed. Overall we could not be happier with the place. read more

The Sport Center is a great place if you're looking for something better than the big box gyms. It's clean and there are always machines available. The lounge area is really nice with complimentary coffee. The pool area is quite large with plenty of lap lanes, hot tub and a warm kid/therapeutic pool with slide. Wheaton Sport Center has many problems regarding the management of the club. The club's track is small and feels like a dungeon. They have a variety of machines but, a very few amount of each and the availability of the machines is very limited. This "neighborhood club" is like an unwelcoming neighbor. We love the WSC. The consistently caring and patient child care staff is sincere. It is what has us so loyal to the center. Knowing we have a child care option that is so kind to our kids in that well kept setting is worth every penny. The facilities are ample and well cared for. We have had to bring laptops in to check on things for work while fitting in a work out and trading off with kids. It is exactly as we have hoped for a wellness plan. With the tennis plus, each adult got plenty of guest passes per year. That's great for out-of-town visitors or clients. I recently scheduled a manicure and found the spa friendly, easy in and out and a fair price. The family swimming/therapy pool has been an uplifting activity especially in the winter months. Love to see all ages just engaged and socializing. Positive. A con? You might have to circle the parking area if you arrive in the morning when a few classes begin. It's never taken us more than a few minutes. Locker room etiquette varies on the time of day and the brashness of the individual--which on the odd occasion can be quite brazen. No biggie. read more

Been going for awhile now. Great club, just about everything I could ask for. Only reason not five stars is that they just did a locker room overhaul and it's not much nicer than when it began. Other than that, day care is awesome, weight room more than adequate (could use an olympic lifting pad so minor dropping of weight doesn't shake the building), cardio room is great and even has a view. Really great open area for doing stretching or body weight only workouts. I'd say if you need the day care to watch your kid while you workout, this place is super high value. Despite the recent updates the club still looks and feels dated. Lockers are tiny, so don't bother bringing a winter coat because you will not be able to stuff it in. In addition, exiting the club is a mental workout, as it is nearly impossible to make a left on Gary between 4:30-7:30 pm. (Despite living north of the club, I would have to head south and circle back around.) I needed to contact the owner to discuss some concerns I had concerning his General Manager but he appears to be a "hand's off" guy as I never received any response despite having been a member for 12 years. There are so many competing clubs in the area. I just joined a new club and I am now wondering why I put up with the frustrations I had at WSC for so many years! read more
