I've been a member for over 18 years and have always appreciated the quality experience the HealthPlex provided. However, over time, I feel the facility has gradually lost some of its "premium" feel due to a number of recurring operational issues. There appear to be several systemic problems that impact the overall member experience: Studio and Class Technology Frequent issues with audio equipment in class studios. Microphones often do not work or batteries are not charged. Classes are routinely delayed due to technical problems, which is frustrating during a 45-minute session. Locker Room Maintenance Inconsistent availability of hand towels. Non-working TVs. Only one functioning hair dryer. A general lack of attention to detail that affects the experience. Towel Service One of the most noticeable changes has been the reduction in towel availability during workouts. In the past, towels were consistently stocked and accessible throughout workouts. That service level contributed significantly to the premium experience and convenience. Trainer Support The trainers themselves are strong and professional, but they seem to lack adequate support from management, particularly regarding equipment reliability and coverage when someone is out. As a long-time member, I share this feedback because I'd like to see the HealthPlex return to the level of operational excellence that originally set it apart. The Wednesday night 3.5+ 2 hour women's drill is run very poorly. I've dropped in a couple of times and it was good. Only once were there 2 pros for 7-8 ladies, 2 courts. Most of the time it's only 1 pro, 2 courts and 7 ladies. Lots of waiting your turn and standing in line. This last time there were 7 of us and 1 pro, 2 courts. This is supposed to be a 3.5+ level but there was a 2.0 level beginner there. The pro took 1 court to work only with the beginner and 6 of us had to warm up on 1 court. As the drill proceeded, the beginner was on 1 court and the pro had 6 of us playing (4 at a time) while she fed balls to both courts. The last half hour is usually reserved for team play. The pro took the beginner on 1 court and the 6 of us had us alternate in. My questions are why did the pro allow the beginner into the class and why did she get a private lesson? This is the first time something like this has happened and the head tennis pro should be aware. Rush Copley Tennis should only charge the 6 of us for 1 hour as we had share 1 court and wait to play. read more

Doctors are not collaborating. One told my husband he could go home even though he was as running a fever and another said no way he should be discharge. Many mistakes by nursing staff. My husbands wound from a biopsy was not checked until I asked after he was experiencing pain at the site after 4 days. Condescending physicians. Messed up drugs. read more

The only reason I'm a member here is because they won't let me out of an 18 month contract I was told it's month to month when I joined. Otherwise, it's not a $90/month gym, it's a $20/month gym at best. Smells really bad like poo & dried Semen, it's always dirty, has mold all over, & the towels are crusty. I never seen a gym have an event that charges a minimum of $25 for members & nickel n dime everything without any benefits to the members. No amenities like deodorant or soap to clean yourself (at least in the morning) for the members. County jail has better facilities than this place. I'm definitely going to cancel my credit card so the auto pay doesn't work so I can get out of my contract. I also contacted the health department last week. read more

Maintenance is lacking, failed to have backup pumps to hot tub. Many Senior patrons depend on the healthplex for their daily use. Over a month of disrepair in men' locker room. Management refuses to stock spare parts that they know are subject to wear and tear. read more

Meant for only Kids. Highly oversold to the employees of the adjacent Hospital in the form of Family packages. There's absolutely no written communication so that the narrative can be twisted. The therapy pool lacks lanes so let alone lane discipline and is a wild wild west. In the exact words of senior citizens who want to work out in the therapy pool but never step in that area, 'Unprofessional and a Disneyland'. Not meant for adults. Even after so much escalation, they have absolutely no interest to retain members that aren't either kids or employees of the adjacent Hospital. read more

Drove past a million times, played tennis here for the first time last week. Nice club, has everything one needs and a hometown feel. Plenty of Courts, and instruction for the kids. I called and spoke to someone about open pickleball and wound up paying 75 for open pickleball. I showed up first time when app showed 7 people signed up but when I arrived there were 4 and they continued to play thru 3 games before I asked and was told that they were playing 1 more and maybe one of them would be tired and maybe I could play in :). That's when I went to the desk and asked for a full refund. Maybe it was just that group of 4 men, Or maybe they need an organizer. read more

Rush-Copley Healthplex - Gyms Near Me - Aurora, Illinois

I'll start with the positive...the front desk, trainers, and various other employees that guests interact with regularly are awesome! Solid facilities. The big negative and reason I wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend this place is management. There is, or at least was when I joined, language in the contract that let you void it if you moved a certain distance away (which I did in May) with a 30 day notice. I went in, filled something out and signed it, thought it was all good. I noticed a few months later in December that they had kept charging me monthly after June, a total of 5 extra months for a total of $535. I let their management know, was directed to someone who turned out to be incredibly useless named Ron Johnson, Director of Operations. He told me over the phone to send proof of my address change as he could see in the system that I had not been to the gym since early June, and he would refund this. I emailed him and left several voicemails over the next FOUR months. And every time I called someone else, they would direct me to keep emailing and calling him and telling me they'd send him the message as well. I never heard anything from him. I was "lucky" enough to catch him when I called today. He said there was nothing he could do, and could only "cancel" the membership from the day he received my email with the Proof of Address change, and that the gym had no record of me signing the 30 day notice form. He acknowledged he had the proof of Change of Address and that he could see I had not been to the gym since early June, but that he was not going to do anything with this because he couldn't find the 30 day notice form. He also didn't really have any kind of answer to why it took 4 months to get any kind of information from him, and that only happening because I happened to catch him picking up the phone. I am currently looking into legal action, but I would just highly recommend staying away from businesses such as this. They literally have proof I moved and that I haven't been there, and refuse to resolve. They would not be losing anything if they refunded me as I never used the facilities after that, but I would be out $535. They know most people would just let that go instead of going through the trouble to take legal action. It's a classic big business bully tactic. Don't give them your business, Ron Johnson and Rush Copley embody everything that's wrong with business ethics. And yes, just the way Adam Sandler would say it. read more

I joined this summer and got a great deal, they waved the intro signage fee and it's just $83/mth. Plus, I got one free personal training appt as part of my package, and since I signed up for three more personal training sessions at the same time of signing up, it was at a reduced rate. The facilities are top of the art with every single machine you can imagine. There's also classes being held on two floors in three different rooms. There is an olympic pool, another smaller pool for exercise. There are tons of tennis and swimming classes, for adults or children. There's tons of stuff to do for kids if you have any. There are external tennis courts for nice weather, and several more internal tennis courts, surrounded by an internal running track. The internal tennis courts/running track area isn't air conditioned, so user beware on hot/humid summer days. There's lots of open houses and other events where you can bring friends and family to hang out and be part of the activities. The person who signed me up was a sales specialist, so you should do a little research before you sign up so you know how things work and so you get the right answers to the questions that matter to you. The personal trainer seems a little overscheduled, but has a great personality and has a great knowledge of human anatomy, muscle groups, and the equipment. This is the third gym I've ever gone to in my life, but the one I've gone to the longest because I find it a great match for what I need. Ladies, just beware some oglers at the weight pressing area, if that's something that bothers you. Some even are so bold as to ask you if you're having a good workout ;o) Just comes with the territory! It always cracks me up because I'm no beauty and there's a very obvious reason why I'm at a gym working out. Check out the Healthplex website for everything you need, including updated class schedules and other information. The only thing I didn't find on there was pricing for the signup and packages, and the personal trainer listing is extremely outdated--as my personal trainer confirmed. A friend of mine also comes here for physical therapy. So there's always that option as well. There is a little microscopic shop that's split in half to offer a little cafe type place with smoothies/shakes, whole fresh fruit, nutrition bars, and little wraps and such. You can charge things to your account if you didn't bring payment. There's mini lockers inbetween the check-in desk and the little cafe/shop or you can go downstairs to the locker rooms where there's proper lockers which you can secure with a lock you bring from home. There's also locker rentals should you need it. I've always brought a lock and never had a problem getting my favorite locker for the day. The showers are really clean, with full-sized shower curtains that close up well. There's body wash/shaving gel/shampoo/conditioner dispensers in each stall. There's as many hot towels as you'll ever need. There's also razors near the swim suit spinner. The vanity sinks have almost every type of after-shower product you can think of: hair products, mouthwash, ear buds, cotton balls, sanitized combs, etc. read more

This place was great this past year when i was pregnant. They have pre-natal yoga where the instructor tailors the class to your needs. I loved using the therapy pool and attending swimming classes, it's great to relieve swelling while pregnant. The locker rooms are very clean and i love that you can rent a locker and keep your things there. The indoor running track is great way to switch things up with the treadmills get monotonous. read more

I joined six months ago l and I'm still as happy as the day I joined. No it's definitely not the least expensive place out there, but there are so many amenities and the variety of activities is hard to beat. I know that at my old fitness center, new members would be paying close to what I'm paying here anyway and I like it much better here. The class variety is excellent. The summertime class schedule did not feel pared down at all; I was able to keep enjoying my routine. The instructors have been very friendly and helpful, often going out of their way to learn more about the new faces in class. read more

This is another giant fitness center, only this one is owned by Rush-Copley Medical Center, so there's good integration between fitness specialists and physicians / therapists. They even have a couple doctors' offices there, sports medicine, etc. Tennis seems to be one of the specialties. I'm better at watching tennis, but if I wanted to learn I'd go here. They offer kids' tennis camps in the summer and I saw a few courts. Also swimming, weight training, cardio, massage therapy, and a big old rock climbing wall! I've seen ads in the summer for shorter-term memberships, but give them a call or stop in to get their current specials. read more

Beware! A beautiful place with unethical management. Notice how, as the review dates approach the current date, they get worse and worse. I spent hours meeting with "membership" staff to work out a rate for aquatics only. After I had come in and signed a contract, another person did not "approve" the rate and tried to charge me the full rate. Classic bait-and-switch tactics. I filed complaints with both the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General - Division of Consumer Fraud. Since then my swim buddies and I did a simple internet search and found several other options in the area for much better rates and with much more ethical management. So spend a little more time and burn a few more calories finding the better options out there. read more

Theres no better gym in Aurora. True, some folks call it "pricey", but you get what you pay for. The place is large enough, has such a mix of activities, and has enough parking that finding it "crowded" is nearly impossible....try that at another Aurora gym. WE definetely don't have a complex like this around Chicago! There are I believe 10 great courts, a lot of upstairs viewing room, a large workout facility, badminton nets, a very expensive pin-pong table, a daycare, and I am sure that I am missing something. The staff is extremely nice and everything is super clean. There is a toooon of parking space and many places to eat within a few minutes of driving. This facility is just awesome! Be careful with membership and freezes!! They can prorate when you come off a freeze but if you want to freeze your account you have to come and sign in person! A very archaic process especially if you are out of town. Also if you cancel the 7th of the month they won't provide a credit to your account for the 3 weeks that have been frozen. Love this fitness center. I came from Lifetime Fitness in Warrenville, which did have tons of equipment and services, but it was more expensive and I had to drive around for literally 10min to find a parking space. I was there 4 years. Going to Rush it was different. No crowds, no 'hard' people starring you down...very family oriented. They still have the squat rack, free weights and machines I need though. Probably better for families, but my wife and I love it, we are in our 30's and have been weight lifting for about 5 years. Talk to Rob...he is great. Godwin, Jen and Karl are great trainers too. My family has been a huge fan of the Healthplex. On our recent trip to Aurora we decided to check out the Healthplex's family swim on Tuesday and Thursday. Grandparents who have a Healthplex membership can bring their grandchildren for $5 and adult children can get a guest pass for $15. My mom has a membership, so we decided to check out the pool. Unfortunately, there was physical therapy sessions going on in the pool on Thursday during family swim (bad scheduling), so the pool was partially blocked off. There were quite a few people using the remaining space left for swimming. My mom and I decided to stay for an aqua aerobics class after the family swim. The instructor never showed and the pool workers seemed clueless as to what was going on. This was really disappointing because I wanted my mom to begin attending the aqua aerobics classes more regularly since she is still regaining strength after she broke her foot, but she doesn't want to go back. The smoothie bar was awesome, however, and the gentleman working behind the counter was super friendly and helpful. The ladies at the front desk were great too. It seems the Aquatic programs need some help, but the rest of the facility is still a wonderful resource for the area. read more

This is one of the best high end gyms around. Staff is ready to help in any way possible. There's a cafe on the premises. Huge pool, sauna, whirl pool and the locker rooms are immense. You don't need to bring anything from home. There are towels, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, spray on deodorant, lotion, mouth wash, disposable razors etc. classes are plentiful and large area for machines and weights. The crowds are pleasant and rarely do you have to wait long for anything. This place NEVER smells like a gym. read more

I joined this center in Sept. I was promised a fitness evaluation, and an orientation to the machines. In November I called Mark and told him I was unhappy with the center, and that I did not receive anything I was promised, and I was still waiting for a permanent membership card. It's now January, I still have not had my fitness assessment, nor my orientation to the machines, and I still have a temporary card. Not one person has called and asked why I wanted out of my membership, or if there was anything that could be done to right this wrong. I have still been charged for Dec. and Jan. even though I have called and now emailed the facility. As a last resort I have called American Express so they can block any further charges. Some people have obviously had better luck then I have, but I want out!!! My old fitness center in Downers Grove was amazing, this place not so much! read more

Amazing facility! I have to say this is the best and most complete recreation facility I have ever seen. The amenities here is amazing. I came here for a tennis conference for a couple of days and completely impressed with the offerings here. You get a chance to see tennis courts up in the mezzanine. Just finished visiting this fitness center for the first time... one word: Amazing! I've been to many gyms and this one is by far the best!! They have everything from free weights, cardio machines, three large studios/classrooms that hold classes like yoga, spin, pilates, zumba, zip fit, boxing (over 20 different types of classes). The coolest part... the track, tennis facility and the pools (for the entire family)!! Seriously... you name it, they have it this Healthplex! I agree with the other reviewers that the RCH is a bit pricey, but for me, it's worth it. Why? I'll give you a few reasons: 1 - The pool is in the basement. So folks who aren't ripped or have stunning bodies in suits don't feel that they're on parade for the world to see like some places who have their pools right inside the front doors. 2 - Kids are around, but not on the main floors (usually). This matters to me as I don't want to be distracted and don't feel kids should be allowed on the main workout floor. 3 - RHC is not married to one product vendor. Their equipment is top-notch and well-maintained. They have different name brands on the floor. 4 - The features are great. Tons of classes, customized to varying levels of athleticism. The trainers on staff are very professional and do more than just train - they care about your overall health. My trainer is very into nutrition and as a diabetic, that's very important to me. 5 - The showers are awesome - good water pressure, and everything I need to get ready to go to work is right there. From hairspray to combs to blow dryers - I can go to the gym in the morning and leave right from there to go to work. The hours are good, though I wish they were open a bit later on weeknights. The facility is clean and spacious. The staff is also friendly. read more

I've been going here for three years and mainly play tennis. They have a good tennis program, but ends up being expensive, as you have to pay for membership too. I just joined the Healthplex in October and it's been a great experience so far. Rob and Kelly were extremely helpful during the sign up process and everything has been great since then. I use the indoor track, free weights, and machines more than anything but I definitely want to start taking advantage of the classes - especially boxing! I hadn't worked out for 4 years and it's been great getting back into a routine with the help of the Healthplex. All of the employees are extremely friendly and all of the other patrons make it a comfortable environment - you can tell most people there are just trying to be healthy, it almost never feels like you're being judged. read more

I've been a member for years, and wouldn't consider anywhere else. Staff seems well trained, and genuinely concerned about my well being. I use a trainer for weights 2x/wk, the indoor track, and some of the stationary aerobic machines. Always seem to have the right balance of attendance. EXTREMELY UNHAPPY AND DISAPPOINTED DOESNT EVEN BEGIN TO EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL ABOUT THIS PLACE. I have been a member for a while and loved (past tense) facility and classes. That was until the Pilates instructor, Monica or Monique was her name, embarrassed and insulted me in class. The way she talked to me and addressed me was so unprofessional I wanted to run out of the class right then and there. I stuck it out but was close to tears. I will spare the details of what she said as I feel it's not important to bring up again but after class I went to go talk to someone and I was given a number of someone to call. I felt as though I got the brush off. It was evident that I was upset but I just couldn't believe that no one was interested l, or got that impression. I didn't want to call because I felt I would just get a number and sent to voicemail so I left my number to see if anyone took the situation seriously. A couple weeks later and a canceled membership and still no call. Unbelievable. read more

Depending on what you're looking for, this is a solid health club. After 2.5 years of membership we are giving it up. Pros: - lots of classes - large indoor track - great open gym space - one really, really good yoga class (Sandra, Tuesday night) - generally friendly staff - childcare (up to a certain age. Didn't use it but the fact they offered at all is a real advantage, it and the facilities for it were great) Cons: - locker room, in particular the showers, sauna and whirlpool were constantly dirty. Showers had fruit flies. I complained several times and saw degrading conditions as time went on. Just gross. - seems to cater to middle-of-the-road fitness seekers. While there are a lot of classes, most are beginning-level. If you are looking to be challenged, you are in the wrong place - certain machines are not replaced or in poor repair. Again, gave information about machines that were not working and week after week they remained in disrepair. - Staff communication. While friendly, doesn't seem like people from different departments speak to each other. For example, if you ask the front-desk people, well, almost anything, they say they don't know, or at best, direct you to someone who might now. Class teachers don't really know anything about any other part of the club, and it's unclear (see above comment) how information reported to front-desk makes it way to management. In the end, the cost didn't make up for the cons. read more

The business office does not return the phone call, Lori takes advantage of it's members by renewing the memberships without letting them know, they do not issue credits when the credit are due.
