I like going to Eola community center. The people who work there are very friendly and nice. However, I really don't like the fact that a lot of good classes take place in the first half of the day. So if you have regular 9 to 5 job it is pretty difficult to find the right workout class that is not Zumba or Yoga that is after 6 pm. That's the main reason my husband and I joined Insanity Workout Class. However, it costs extra. The one thing I really don't get is why the difference between what Eola charges members and non-members is so insignificant. I would think being a member should give you a little bit more of a leverage in terms of pricing. Also, the reciprocity with the Vaughan center is not worth it at all. You will be paying more, but you don't get the access to the pool. For that you have to pay yet another extra. What is the point of that reciprocity if you can't use the pool? Oh and if you are not a full member at Vaughn they also make you use a shittier changing room (probably it has changed now). So you will be paying more and be treated and all that well. read more

TL;DR: Nice facility, but watch out for the "Karen" who claims to be a manager of the fitness center. This review is only for the fitness center. The center itself gets 5 stars. The pros: The young lady at the check in is always amazingly nice and cheerful. The track is relatively pleasant; it's a good size (1/7 mile) and has three lanes, which is good. And it is rarely crowded during the summer. (Can't speak for winter, as I stopped going in winter once I bought my in-home treadmill several years ago.) BUT... As one other reviewer has noted, there is this old woman who is REALLY grumpy, rude, and downright aggressive toward members. (She has shoulder-length gray hair...I didn't catch her name.) The other day I was walking on the track (it was one of those 98-degree days), and she was opening the shades on the windows on the track. As I was walking back I asked, "Shouldn't we be closing them on a hot day like this to keep the track area cool and save on AC?" (The shades she3 was opening were on the west side of the building; it was late afternoon and the sun was BLARING in the windows--you could literally feel the heat.) She immediately copped an attitude, and snarled, "Well, I've been working here over 10 years and that's how we have always done it. The shades go UP as soon as the kids are done with gymnastics. We only keep them closed during gymnastics because the sun gets in the eyes of the kids. The shades are never closed if there are no gymnastics." Well, that is a blatant lie on two accounts: First, there were NO gymnastics for the hour preceding her shade-raising. I know. I was in the gym then. So, they were NOT closed to "keep the sun out of the eyes of the gymnasts" as she claimed. (Lie #1) She added that, "I have never seen the shades closed in my 10-plus years working here." Well, that's Lie #2. I was walking on the track on Sunday prior (no gymnastics and no basketball). It was another one of those hot days, and ALL THE SHADES WERE CLOSED UPSTAIRS. in fact, one of the windows even had a n exercise matt hung over the closed shade to keep it cooler. She then told me I was being "disrespectful to a manager" because I asked why the shades weren't closed to keep it cool upstairs. I was startled, and replied: "I wasn't being disrespectful; I merely asked if the shades shouldn't be kept closed to keep some of the heat out. Not only would it be more pleasant for those using the track, but it would save on AC costs." Her response was almost comical. She started yelling, "Questioning authority IS being disrespectful!" She then started talking at the top of her voice non-stop, not allowing me to even get a word in edgewise. She just kept repeating the same thing over and over: "Asking questions is disrespectful of authority. Asking questions is disrepectful of authority. Asking questions in disrespectful of authority." She then stomped into the office, and I thought that was that. But then she emerged and told me "I am a manager. I am the authority. You need to leave. I won't put up with disrespect." Then once again, she just kept repeating that same phrase over and over--I couldn't even get a word in edgewise. At that point, I knew there must be some cognitive issue at play, so I left. AS I left, she stood in front of a camera and pointed toward the door, while looking in the camera. t Honestly, I had to laugh. It was just so bizarre. As I was driving home, I actually started to feel sorry for her. She either has a very unhappy, unfulfilled life to not be able to handle a simple question, and then get so defensive...OR she has the beginning of dementia. (My best friend's mom had dementia, so I recognize the signs.) Even though I sympathize with her situation (if that is indeed the case--I have no idea and I'm not a doctor so I'm not making a diagnosis....just stating what I observed based on my experience with my friend's mom), that is not a good look for the facility. Many years ago when I first started coming to this facility, it was always packed. Now, it's always virtually empty (the fitness center; there are still always a lot of parties.) I think the combination of people's encounter with this woman AND the obscene price increases over the years and the elimination of the three-month passes have caused people to either go to another facility (since the price is the same now) OR buy their own home equipment. I wish I had a recording of the exchange so I could take it to the proper managers --Or Jen P, head of the Park District-- and have them give her some counseling on how to handle customers who pay her wages through taxes. I have used the track to run indoors during winter months. Fitness center is pretty clean. Locked locker rooms. The building is easy to navigate. Staff is very welcoming. Hours of operation are fantastic! read more

Parking can get annoyingly busy depending on what time and day you go. Avoid going on the weekends or during peak hours during the weekdays. I say this because the parking lot can fill up fast when there are a lot of kids present. The gym upstairs has a good variety of equipment and an indoor track. Locker room is very clean. Gym doesn't usually get busy before 5 pm or late at night. read more

Used to be community focused; now it's just a money grab. A community center should FOR the community--especially residents. I used to love the one-day passes to the fitness center (many years ago), and the lower 3-month passes. But now, they have gotten too greedy. It is no longer a community center; it is just like any other workout facility in terms of price, only not as nice. Hence, I no longer go there and haven't for some time. this place sucks!!!! my male child was in gymnastics and the teachers where just agnoring him and my daughter was in kung fu and the teacher taught her nothing and the teacher had us pay him 35 for a belt and us pay him a not showing up fee part of the class to be in the game you have to pay for its omg!!!!!! and then we had to take a TRAIN to get to house to do the lessons and before that he said that he woud pay us back for the tikits guss what nooo he said he did not say that read more

Talk about a one stop shop for local convenience! This neighborhood community center has it all - a library, fitness center, all sorts of kids programs, cross fit, meeting rooms, you name it! I spend most of my time here at the fitness center. At only $35 a month for both my husband and I, you can't go wrong with a membership like that! They have treadmills, stair climbers, ellipticals, free weights, machines and even a track to run on. TVs line the fitness area and all the cardio machines are equipped with media as well. They have a space where you can set your belongings nearby, or there are actual locker rooms available downstairs. The staff here is super friendly! Everyone I've met is a pleasure to see. My favorite part about the fitness center is the classes they offer. I've taken yoga, abs and TBE (total body express) and all have been fabulous! If you're looking to get in shape, sign your kid up for fun activities or maybe just need a quiet spot to study - the Eola community center is where it's at. read more

I appreciate having a great gathering place like Eola Community Center for events. I have attended a shower/tea party, graduation party and now fitness party in the facility and happy to report all three events were great. However I did notice that the later in the day you attend an event the facility maintenance seems to deteriorate! For example, the gender neutral bathrooms were poorly maintained during my Friday evening fitness class. Both bathrooms near our class smelled of urine and no one bothered to clean or sanitize either one during my three hour visit. Maybe management needs to adjust the maintenance schedule during busy evenings or weekends. I will avoid evening events or at least bring Lysol spray with me as backup! Otherwise I definitely recommend using the Eola Community Center. read more

I would like to give this review more stars, however, I can't reward mediocrity. I had my bridal shower here in October. When I went in to reserve a room, I was asked to put down a $100 deposit. No problem, right? Wrong. The girl at the front desk ended up charging the full amount to my debit card. At the time, I didn't have such a large sum in my account and they ended up over drawing my account. It took 2 weeks to get my money back and that's AFTER I had to call and get it straightened out with the Finance Department. Luckily, I was able to explain the situation to my bank and they graciously waived the overdraft fee. The bridal shower was great. We got the room we wanted (came with a kitchen) and the facility overall is wonderful. Everyone we came in contact with that day was very nice and helpful. Here comes the second issue, I was told when I initially reserved the room that the security deposit would be refunded to the card that was originally used 2-3 weeks after the event. Fine. 4 weeks go by and I had not received my refund so I called. I was told they refunded the money back on November 8th -- I had been checking my account. I hadn't received anything. Let me back up a bit, once it was time to pay the remaining balance on the room (1 weeks before event) my mother paid with her credit card. No problem, right? Wrong again!! They refunded her card INSTEAD of my card. "You can get the money from her can't you?" THAT'S NOT THE POINT! The point is, the money should've been refunded to the card that was initially used. LIKE YOU ALL SAID IT WOULD BE! Because they screwed up the first transaction, they blamed the computer for screwing up the second transaction. No. Who was sitting in front of that computer when it was time to issue refunds? That's who needs to be held responsible. If it is an automated thing, then that needs to be fixed and needs to be fixed immediately. No excuse for this! Customer Service is simple. Accountability and attention to detail and they did not deliver on either. It's horrible that they have no regard for me as a customer when it came to dealing with my finances. I am severely disappointed and will offer this story to anyone who thinks about reserving a room here. read more

I struggle at how to rate the Eola gym. I lived several miles from here for years, and was always proud and happy to say I belonged here. The rates were highly competitive, and other gyms also couldn't compete with all that the Eola gym had to offer: a track (huge bonus here!), substantial machines, a great locker room and adequate parking. However, I think the "powers that be" got too big for their britches, and apparently assumed they could start charging what other, full-service, multi-location gyms charge. My husband and I paid $17/month each ($34 total) for years, and suddenly, it was going to cost us nearly double that - somewhere around $60. On top of that, the three month memberships (for those only needing it in the summer or winter) were no longer an option. For such a high rate increase, we were shocked, and never renewed. Thankfully we moved and the Eola gym is out of the picture - as I would have been frustrated had we stayed and had to pay such a substantial increase. Gyms need to be careful when they increase prices - is it better to have 100 memberships at $17/month, or 50 memberships at $30? You do the math. The higher the increase in cost, the higher the likelihood is that members will go elsewhere. Note: I've since looked and now see that the couple pricing has reduced to $50/month. This is good progress, but it'd still end up being nearly $200 more/year than I had originally been paying. read more

My daughter takes a gymnastics class here and Little Learners class. The programs are top notch. The teaches plan new activities each week. We look forward to coming every week. I highly recommend both classes. read more

My wife and I joined as it is extremely convenient to our home in Oakhurst and we work out extremely early (5 AM) so that is a huge plus. Plenty of machines, a huge track and tons of activities make it easy to get in an hour workout and not have to stand around waiting for a machine. We've been members for about 6 weeks but so far we are extremely pleased. Friendly helpful staff is always cheerful and willing to help. They also offer free of charge a two session personal trainer to show you how to use the machines as well as a personal fitness routine. Overall very pleased. read more

I recently signed up for a martial arts class that was being offered through the park district. The sign-up process was a bit of a hassle as this was the first time I had taken anything at the park district. I had to stop by the actual front desk to set up an account that could be used to sign up for classes online. In addition to this, the building itself frequently seems overcrowded with narrow hallways filled with parents waiting for their children to finish their classes. As for the class itself, I was looking for a group class. What I received was semi-private due to low enrollment. As a beginner and someone that does not flourish from being in the spotlight, it was at times intimidating to be one of two students. That being said, the instructor was patient and knowledgeable on what was being taught. read more

Part of the Fox Valley Park District and attached to the library, the community center is exactly that: a central location to service the people of Aurora. In addition there is a gym that, while it does not have the hours or the amount of equipment as the bigger named gyms, has everything to get a workout done. read more

I'm only here for the fitness center. It's a nice friendly place. Can get packed fast by people who just talk to one another without working out but it's just like any gym so besides that i just go when it's quiet so it can be me and my music and the other serious people who are there to train or just workout for their selves like me. I know it has a library and lots of activities you can sign up for. But like i said I'm only here for the gym in my opinion better than the other two fox valley gyms. read more

I took my sister here for gymnastics class and I love this center. It's always clean and organized and seems very well managed. My sister especially loved her coach Lyndsie. She was so sweet and patient with all the kids in class taking time to connect with and help each one as individuals. I would definitely recommend this place and their gymnastic programs to anyone. read more

I've sent my daughter to this community center for activities multiple times, and besides the one class she took where the teacher constantly showed up 20-40min late didn't have much to complain, I'm giving them 3 stars because when it comes to enrolling and reserving they seem to be on point to some extent, but when it comes to refunding money the two times me and my wife have had to wait close to a month for it to be put back on our cards, first time my wife waited a month and then had to call on a daily until it was done over 800$ they're excuse was someone forgot to hit submit to the return and now with me says my info on sending my return to finance was their but pretty muchnever looked at. Booked on 1/12/19 didn't send over the info to finance until 1/18/19 and I have to wait until 2/7/19 and hope they send it. I understand there policy of 3 weeks for a refund/deposit to be sent back, but I feel the minute 3 weeks hit it should be put back immediately not extended for an extra week or 2. read more
