For my own personal aesthetics. To be able to run if I'm ever in a life threatening situation. To be able to run around with my future children, should I ever be so blessed. Running away from the restroom at Anytime Fitness was not on that list. I had to use the restroom and walked into the general one. My immediate thought was, "Absolutely not." So I figured I'd try the women's shower restroom instead. Locked. At that point, I genuinely considered using the men's restroom. Have you ever walked into a bathroom and thought, "This place isn't even worthy of my porcelain offering?" Because that was my exact thought. I felt personally violated having to conduct my bathroom business in there. Then I went to wash my hands. Barely any soap. That's when I lost confidence in the cleanliness of the entire gym. My first thought was, "Well... how many people have walked out of here without washing their hands?" Suddenly every dumbbell, treadmill, and machine looked like a collaborative science experiment. Eventually I mustered up the courage to get on the treadmill and thought, "You know what? I'll just wipe it down first." I turned around. No wipes. Then I noticed the wipes trash bin was overflowing. At that point, I wasn't doing cardio anymore. I was building my immune system. The gym itself has potential, but the restroom and sanitation situation seriously need attention. Clean restrooms, stocked soap, and disinfecting wipes are the bare minimum. Right now, the only thing getting a good workout is my fight-or-flight response.
