Mt Glorious Restaurant - What a view!

Mount Glorious Restaurant & Cafe was originally a dairy farm built in the 1930's and known as…read more"Cloverlea Cottage"; the original homestead still stands and was developed into this restaurant in the late 1970's. The view from the outdoor seating is beautiful. You can see views of Moreton and Stradbroke Islands, the Redcliffe Peninsula and south to the Port of Brisbane from an altitude of 683 metres. You literally feel like you're on the top of the world. I came here with a party of people after (somewhat casually) hiking through the beautiful Mount Glorious trails. It was originally a hot day driving here from the Brisbane CBD, but by the time we got to the top of the mountain the air was actually crisp. It was a shock to the skin (and I didn't think to bring a jumper or jacket) but signifies how high up you actually are here. Those with vertigo should know the view from the restaurant's seating is a gorgeous panorama; it's not exactly set into the mountain face as such, so there's no feeling of a sudden drop as you look out over the mountains and gorges. We only ate coffee and dessert, not feeling up to the mains after eating a bag of Kopiko sweets. Both my coffee and cheesecake were good, but afterwards I wished I'd ordered my friend's strawberry milkshake. It was delicious. It was offered to another member of our party, who declined, stating she was allergic to strawberry milkshakes. I'd never heard of this, and it wasn't until years later that I heard of people with allergies to red food colouring. (A strange segue there, but it's funny how your memory selects to remember the little incidents pertaining to broader experiences.) The facade of the place is absolutely gorgeous; the building is beautifully painted and you feel like you're in a rich country manor that has been re-painted for modern times. I also saw quite a few pretty, large-ish birds wandering around the place and a slow-moving, indifferent domesticated cat. This also contributes towards the feeling of being on someone's rich country manor from some bygone time.

Due to that, for the non-rider it is a wonderful place to meet friendly locals who will be eager to tell you all you want to know (maybe a bit more, haha) about just about anything, make recommendations if you are a tourist, etc. The current owner and his family are wonderful people who have been steadily improving the place. If not slammed busy, he's happy to sit and have a chat. The diversity and travel experience of the regulars is unrivalled. Wanna hear a great story? Wish that you didn't have to traipse into the city of Brisbane to get a good meal? If this sounds like you then Ya Ya's must be on your list of restaurants to try. Located in Samford Village it's an easy drive if you live North side of Brisbane and well worth the effort. This eatery is not about fine dining, it's about sharing great food and drinks with friends or perhaps taking your sweetheart for a special meal where its more about the food and company than linen table cloths. An open air style dining space located in front of a bar area and the day time cafe, Ya Ya's is funky, retro and real. Our highlight and delight has been that 5 months apart our food experiences have been exceptional. Both visits were as a table of 4 which meant maximising the samples off the menu, although I'd go as far as to say you really couldn't pick wrong no matter what you choose to eat. My tip would be share... it's not compulsory but really probably essential given how good the food was. This is just a sample of some of the delights that tickled our taste buds: - chips cooked to crunchy perfection and well seasoned with herbs and spices - half a chargrilled chicken with spiced Couscous and chimchuree - Amazing Cauliflower chargrilled w. Tumaric - Ham hock w cornichons and pickled onions, toasted sourdough and tasty cheese - Crispy chicken pieces with chili sauce - Green salad w. Beans, brocolli, mint and Persian feta - Scallops w parsnip mash, prosciutto and croutons - Beef cheek Ragu w. Orricette pasta - Afragato w. Pedro xeminz sherry, not your basic Add to a wonderful menu a varied and delicious wine list, including one of my all time favourites, Shaw and Smith Chardonnay, plus a good range of beers and great bar set up and you really can't go wrong. Ya ya's service is friendly but not intrusive. Each time I felt like we were valued as customers and the staff really wanted us to have a good time. I would suggest making a booking to guarantee yourself a table, particularly on the weekends for dinner. Whilst it may be some time between visits this is definitely one of my all time favourite places to eat in Brisbane.

I stumbled across this place on my way out to Cedar Creek one day and I couldn't be more happy about deciding to head on in and have a late lunch and a couple of ice cold ciders. There was a number of factors that drew me into this place, the primary one being that the Samford hotel across the road had already closed its kitchen and I was famished. The second of which was the name "Ya Ya", the moment I saw it it reminded me of one of my favorite places in the world called Railay in Thailand and another bar there with the same name 'Ya Ya Bar'. This one is quite different and a far cry from the Rasta inspired cushion dominated space in South East Asia but what it lacks in comfort and $1 beers it most certainly makes up for in awesome cocktails, cold drinks, out of this world tasty food and excellent, bubbly service. The tomato, white anchovy and basil is endlessly moreish and the veal schnitzel and coleslaw rocks the boat of expectations and your taste buds - You could start here early in the day and lose yourself in great food and good drinks, why not do just that - its worth the coin.

Located just off the main road it is easy enough to find and there is lots of parking - but finding a close spot at lunch on the weekend is a lottery. Walk in - find a host and be seated - inside or out , lots of tables. Table service - it was on the slow side but given the crowd we were accepting. Lots of good things on the menu, which is broad and has ample vegan and GF options. Coffee was better than expected - above average. Food was good but I noted that table next to us had the dishes come out in ad hoc order so some where finishing when others food arrived. Overall it's good - also a bit pricey. But good.

With Samford Valley now being a swift 15-minute drive from home, we loaded up the car with the parents and ventured into the village for a leisurely lunch and the Nun did not disappoint. As other Yelpers have noted, it does get busy and all the inside tables were reserved. Don't get too hung up on sitting inside, I actually think it's nicer to be outside to take in the surrounds. We were able to easily nab a table outside and amongst a lovely gentle breeze. A gentle note: you may spend a little time, as I did, picking out various leaves and plant matter from your plate and cup if you're seated right at the front tables. The menu is standard cafe fare ranging from smashed avocado or banana bread to the Clergy Burger (aka cheese burger). For around $20 per meal you won't go home hungry. There's a few surprises in the duck and lentil dish with orange. Oh how I wish I'd ordered that. It's a perfectly 'A-ok' spot to stop for lunch and as long as you've reserved ahead, breakfast.
