Slow as molasses. And not many options for kids. For a place that features burgers, why not a kids' option? The ambiance is promising, I just wish I didn't have so much time to notice it. Here an a sleepy Thursday, no explanation why two burgers take so long and why my flat white is served in a paper cup with the explanation that they're out of mugs. The Plough sits on top of a local market; it's also very close to the beach. We came here on a weekend night, and the place was packed! There was a wait of nearly an hour for food. The staff handles their popularity with efficiency; after you place your order, they give you a disc that lights up when your food is ready to be collected :-) They have fabulous selection of drinks, and the portion sizes are quite generous. Bottom line: All these people aren't barking up the wrong tree - I love this place, and highly recommend it! read more

I was waiting for the feRey and decided to check this plce out. I got the mushroom burger with fried halloumi and fries. The food was delicious and could not even finishh. Their corn/avocado fritters with the aloli sauce was not bad either. I was nervous since I don't like avocados but I barely taste it. read more

I'm a sucker for coloured lights and fairy lights stung across the place. Something about it which excites my child-like wonder. This place is somewhere you can chill and relax with a beer. I must admit the food looked decent as well. Live music was enjoyable as we got to hear the acoustic versions of our favourite 90s songs. The second floor has a deck which looks over the main courtyard, giving you the outside experience without the sun or rain on your back. Tried some Venom Golden Ale, it had a merger and short lived head and it's hops and malt balanced each other out. Far weaker in taste when compared to the boldness of an IPA. The wife tried a White Chocolate Chilli Colada. This cocktail with a massive chilli half resting split on the glass comes out. Not as spicy as she was anticipating but the acidity was there, cooled off by the coconut water. Staff are cool and down for a brief chat. The Plough Inn = BBQ Lamb Ribs!!! I've been to Plough in for more than 5 times, I even lost counts. My boyfriend is obsessed with its BBQ lamb ribs!! I posted a photo of it. Check it out! It's a full portion of lamb ribs fits for 2 people. So we always share. But sometimes when he is very hungry he got it just for himself and I got Steak Sandwich for myself. I quite like it! Taste good and good price too for $17. The full ribs portion it cost $35 if I'm not mistaken. But they have Monday $25 deal, which is full ribs, steak or Tbone only $25. Good deal! Few things you have to remember: - On weekdays kitchen open at 5pm. I'm not sure whether they open for lunch. But every time we go there around 3, there is always a sign in the counter that 'kitchen will open at 5pm'. - minimum efptos is $10. So we always take cash to pay drink because we can't pay the meal and drink together, we have to order drinks in bar, meal in the kitchen counter. - weekend, full! I sometimes go there for just drinks with my friends on the weekend, it's a nice place to listen to live band and have a drink as well. One of the cool things about wandering around on a nice afternoon is that you discover places like this. I must say that this is one pretty cool looking pub. It seems as if most of the pub is actually outside with this really large, and covered, beer garden, a pretty cool varanda that looks out onto the plaza (though it is also crowded with smokers as this is the designated smoking area), and an upstairs balcony. It was a shame that I couldn't spend all that much time here because is this definitely one of those places where I could while away the afternoon with a beer and a book (or even my laptop, as long as I have enough battery power left). The covered area means that even if the weather is somewhat incremental you can still enjoy the illusion of being outdoors. This is certainly a place I would visit again the next time I'm in Brisbane. read more

I love sitting at the Plough Inn on Saturday afternoon and watching all the people going to the market and walking around South Bank. It is not the only reason i go there however. The really do enjoy the atmosphere at the Plough becuase there are usually a quite a few people. They have good live music as well that fits in well with the atmosphere. The band also gets people going later on in the afternoon with all the rock classics and even a few modern songs thrown in. The Plough Inn also has a cool layout with the two floor outside area/beer garden. Their lunch menu is also pretty good although quite basic, the burgers are good though and the steak sandwich are really big. Over all its seems to be a place you can count on to have a good meal and a drink with good music. read more

This is a great place to go in South Bank if you are trying to escape all the wretched Ibises and swimming in an artificial beach (aka: public pool) is not your kind of thing. Here you can enjoy a nice beer and get a nice view of the city. I like to come here at the end of the day if I happen to be in the area. This place is very spacious which is good as if I am ever here with a larger group of friends, finding a space to sit is never hard. There is a nice terrace-like outside area which is usually where I like to chill but if you are more into leather seats and wooden floors, the indoors area is actually very nice too. Like any good pub, a nice selection of pub food (chips, steaks, burgers) is available to order at good prices. read more

This classic Australia pub was my drinking hole during my uni days and I'm still pretty attached to it. It gets too crowded for my taste on a Friday or a Saturday night or when they have live music events, but I still enjoy coming down for a beer and steak sandwich for lunch. The lunch menu is reasonably priced between $18 - $22 for a juicy steak. There's also some interesting salad options that I'm surprised to find in a steakhouse - their beetroot and Persian fetta is delicious. Their dinner menu is pricier and I don't think the standard of their Mains are worth between $25 -$35. My advice would be to stick to their lunch time meals and only come out at night for their drinks. It's a great drinking hole with no fancy dress code, you get a great view of Southbank from the beer garden or try sitting in the verandah to get some city views. read more

This place is A-OK by me. Used to frequent the Plough a lot back in the day, and certainly had some memorable experiences (buy me a drink and i'll tell you, one day). It's in a great location, and in the warmer months, sitting outside with a steak and a few drinks, watching the passersby can be quite enjoyable. Prices are probably about average, and the bar is reasonably stocked. They won't be winning any 'best steak in Brisbane' awards any time soon, but the food isn't bad. Certainly have had a lot worse! I'd happily head here for dinner or lunch. Monday and Tuesday nights they have some good specials too. They do have function areas you can reserve, and given the location, it's great for birthday, work, and other parties. A very popular pub, particularly among the students from the nearby QUT and QCA universities, as well as visiting tourists, the Plough has been trading in one form or another for 125 years. Their outdoor beergarden often overflows with revellers who go for cold beers (they have an impressive range on tap) and live music. I recently went there with a group of friends after a gig, one of whom is in a wheelchair. She had a little inconvenience in setting her seat up in the outside terrace, which terminates in a fence-line (with a platform for resting your drinks on) that adjoins the pub's property to the public space. The problem was that if she parked her chair next to us in our bar seats, she would block the thoroughfare through from the beer garden to the main bar and toilets, but if she went around into the public space (sitting across from us at the platform) she wasn't allowed to consume her drink. In the end she had to sit in the thoroughfare and maneuver herself out of the way of punter after punter who needed to pass through, which must have been quite annoying for her. read more

The Plough Inn is a nice enough pub in South Bank, but due to it's location it's a bit overpriced. It's a lovely old building that they have restored and kept some of the original fittings, while also jazzing up the outside beer garden. Great summer spot to sit and have a cold beer... or cider! They have Bulmer's Pear Cider on tap (as well as Apple Cider) for $8 a Pint. There's a nice function room upstairs, the Heritage room, which you can hire out for private events and have access to the verandah with city views. The restaurant is not the cheapest pub food, but they have some specials during the week. Southbank's only pub, The Plough Inn always has a crowd in its beer garden on a Sunday afternoon. As well as a good steak they serve up the best potato wedges in Brisbane in a bowl so big it will feed three people quite easily for only $12 (students take note!). There are pool tables inside and usually a house band playing old-school rock outside on the weekends. Don't sit too close to the band to eat though or you may end up with some hearing damage. I always find a table upstairs where it is less detrimental to the inner ear. There's always a great atmosphere and I enjoy going with a bunch of people for a Sunday afternoon chill-out session (and the wedges of course). read more

Ordered Asian Quinoa Salad today - $16 for a bowl of coleslaw with a VERY poor version of Asian dressing - far too much sesame oil. As all 3 diners agreed they couldn't see any Quinoa in the salad I asked the girl on the till/serving hatch if they had perhaps forgotten the quinoa out of the salad. She gazed in a disinterested manner at the bowl and said it was there. It deffinitely wasn't there !!!! On completion of the meal the waiter asked how our meal was and I said "Mediocre". With that he walked away chatting to his buddy - very obviously discussing my comment!!! If your waiters ask how the meal was and get that sort of comment they should at least enquire why or say they are sorry that I hadn't enjoyed it. Ther other meals were OK but very over priced and we won't be back there. read more

When you go to a pub you expect certain food and a hearty serve. 45 minutes later they have managed to miss the mark on the nachos, loaded wedges and steak sandwich. Given it was a Thursday lunchtime this is disappointing, they clearly wouldn't cope with the weekend crowd. There are better places in SouthBank. read more

Every time I go to The Plough something strange or uninvited happens: - Once a drunken man approached my group and I at our table and refused to leave. He wouldn't consent to leave until we conceded that yes, he was the owner of The Ship Inn down the road, and we were very pleased for him. (He isn't the owner, by the way.) - I came for a quick drink with friends after a movie at the cineplex. We grabbed a few drinks (the Plough Inn does have a great selection of drinks at reasonable prices, and this is a plus) and then I ducked off to the toilet. There I found an explosive poo caked over one of the toilets. It was a poo so explosive I don't understand how it was humanly possible. No one had bothered to clean it up. - While I was still contemplating the poo, a drunken couple getting hot and heavy crashed into the toilets looking for somewhere to hook up. I stared at them, shocked, and they backed out slowly, but were too drunk to make it fully out the doors. So they stayed there, wedged between the doors, making out. - If you look even slightly youthful, your ID will be checked incessantly. This doesn't tend to happen too much if you're downstairs and security has checked your ID already, but if you're eating or drinking upstairs, your ID will be checked every time a staff member spies you, even if you're only drinking water, which I was. I can understand their concern, but their level of paranoia really put a dampener on the night, especially considering we were drinking quietly and minding our own business. read more

Great find while at Southbank! The bartender was super friendly, let us try the various Australian beers on tap, and was great for people watching our first day in Brisbane. After being here a few times I thought it was time to write a review. First time we went we had the kilo of chicken wings. What a feed (and I am not a big fan of chicken wings) they were so tasty with the seasoning and sauces that they send out with it. The next time I went I had the 300g sirloin steak. What a melt in your mouth feed that was. My brother had the same and was happy with the meal as well. My wife had the lamb which was cooked perfectly. The bar staff were friendly and helpful with drinks. The beers that were on tap were a great variety. I also liked the 'brewed on site' beer as well. That was a different touch that you don't normally see at pubs. Entertainment was looked after by either the in house music or a live act. Both are good and give the place a great atmosphere. Kids are welcome and not shunned (like you can get at some places, not just pubs) Next time I am at South bank and we are looking for somewhere to relax and have a few drinks we will definitely be putting this place on our list. This place shows that you can have an old fashioned service pub in the middle of a city and still draw a crowd. read more

An essential stop in many a Brisbane pub-crawl, the Plough Inn is loved by many. Since its refurbishment several years ago, the venue is quite clean-looking and well set out. The view of the Southbank Markets and the lagoon makes it a nice place to wile away a Sunday afternoon. The toilets are always a bit of a hazard, and should really be cleaned more regularly on busy days and the food, while nice, is quite expensive. Things get messy as the sun gets lower, so I usually stick to lunch or early afternoon get-togethers at the Plough. The musical entertainment ranges from very good to extremely bad so settling in for any amount of time can be a bit of a gamble on certain days. I enjoy stopping in for a refreshing cider in between browsing through stalls at the markets. It's in a great location and generally has a good vibe and competent staff. read more

Great atmosphere with live music on Sundays. The upper balcony over looking the market area of southbank makes for great people watching. However I do find the food somewhat overpriced for the quality. It's a pub so expect a smallish collection behind the bar. Still - it makes for a fun time read more

Came across this pub many visits ago and I always have a good time. Friendly bartenders, open air seating, lively crowd and live music every night. It's a great spot to people watch and enjoy some pints. I've only sat in the Beer Garden on every visit and never really noticed people eating out there, just drinking. I have yet to try the food, but the menu I read online looks good. Sunday afternoons and some Fat Yak Pale Ales are are perfect way to wind down the weekend. read more

Firstly staff were rude they had miserable looks on their faces when we ordered. My overpriced 'share platter' came out with items burnt, some undercooked. We had to ask for a plate the girl in the kitchen didn't say a word just walked off grabbed a plate and grumpily placed it on the counter. The manager wouldn't do anything other then offer a drink each not equevilant in price to our crappy food.
