I am so happy with Cloud K9 Academy! The business is owned and operated by an award-winning trainer who uses a reputable and kind approach to train your dog instead of fear-based. I've found the training method to be EXTREMELY SUCCESSFUL and can't believe how far our puppy has come.
Cloud K9 Academy offers many types of training services and that was important to us. Our puppy is a breed that is known to be stubborn and independent. We really wanted a place that offered a puppy class but other training as well so we had that option to keep going. Cloud K9 Academy offers: puppy classes, agility training, service dog training and so much more that I haven't even explored yet. They can even send a trainer out to your house and do the training for you while you are at work or busy with the kids. If you have an aggressive dog, they have training for that as well. Our puppy started with Puppy Class then moved to the Manners Class and now the Puppy Agility training. Also, most places have you come in once a week (and that's it) but Cloud K9 has you come in twice a week plus you have the option to attend attend Puppy Playtime. Oh my gosh that is a LOT of fun for your puppy and you just sit and watch them poop each other out. Bring your camera/phone to take plenty of videos!
A typical puppy class includes training time, potty time, and fun time. If it's your first day, you are given a clicker. I was turned off by that in the beginning, but now I realize how extremely helpful they are in signaling a 'YES!" to your puppy at the exact time you need to. Eventually you won't need it. So during training time, the trainer will pop over to assist you. If you are learning a new training routine, the trainer shows you how several times then you do it while the trainer watches and corrects if necessary. So everyone is at slightly different levels in class and it works. This reminds me of Orange Theory, an exercise place where everyone is at different levels but working towards the same goal while the trainers walk around and assist when necessary. You use a lot of treats (a cup or so) and you'll want a variety. Also, don't feed your puppy before class. After about 30-45 minutes of training, the instructor signals to everyone that it's time to go outside for a potty break. Once we are all back inside, the instructor tells us to unleash our dog but hold on to their collar. When given the signal, we say "Free!" and let them go. Our puppies are off! They can run and play with each other for about 10-15 minutes. What is really cool is that they can even run through the agility tube! Let me tell you, this playtime was the only thing that wiped our puppy out. Also, in the 3-4 months we've been there, I've never seen any bad behavior issues. They have a special class for aggressive dogs so that may explain it. On day one our puppy hid under the chair during playtime, but by week 2 he was playing with all the other puppies and running through the agility tube!
Cloud K9's location is within a little shopping center. It's easy to get to, it's clean (for the million dogs that go through there daily I'm sure), and there is plenty of parking. There isn't much going on with the decor but I think that helps to avoid distraction.
I can honestly compare Cloud K9 to another business/puppy training facility. We tried another training place for a couple weeks before we switched to Cloud K9. The two couldn't be more opposite. The other place we left held classes in a warehouse that was converted to a doggy daycare and boarding facility. What was really terrible was that this other place would have you sit through most of the class with your puppy while the trainer talked the whole time. Boarded dogs would sometimes bark and the temperature was uncomfortable. I'm so glad we left that place.
Our puppy has come a long way. At six months old can now sit, stay, come, place, laydown, leave things, drop things, heal/walk, and is just starting some agility. He still has his silly character for sure, but there is a maturity I see that is worth gold. He is a very happy and loved little guy. I highly, highly recommend Cloud K9 Academy. read more
