The description on the phone sounded good as well as the description here "Is impulse control a rare occurrence? Whether you have a young dog, a rescue dog, or just highly excited dog. This weekly drop-in class will cover everything needed to teach your dog self-control and how to appropriately respond to external stimuli." They absolutely DID NOT cover everything you need to teach your dog self-control. They teach ONLY ONE thing every week while you sit and wait for the trainer to address each individual person. You have one hour for that for $30 (unless they raised those prices as well). Waste of time and money. read more

Have you been to FYC's new facility yet?? Why not?? IT is huge,and gorgeous!! A little out of the way,like the old facility,but...worth the trip!! Stop in and see what's new!! Same great staff and programs,but, even better than before! Our dogs love going to see "Aunt Nancy" and cry like babies when they realize where they are going! If you are looking for trainers that will help you work on issues,aside from basic obedience,this is the place! The training methods used help to build bonds,not make your dog into an automated robot. Great place,can't say enough about it!! read more

This is a great place to take your dog for swimming! They have a private pool you can reserve for $30/30 minutes and let your dog swim and dock dive. You can get in the pool with your pup yourself or pay a little extra for an "assisted swim" and let the For Your K9 folks help. The room is nice, totally private and comes complete with doggie life vests, a shower area for pups, and tons of toys to play with in the pool - which is bath like water, so perfect for getting in as a person too! My dog wasn't a big fan of swimming inside, but if she had been, I definitely would go back. It also looks like they have tons of room for agility classes and the like as well. Worth a visit if you have an active pup. read more

I attended two seminars over the past weekend at For Your K9. The instructors were Karen Okura and Nancy Reyes, the owner of For Your K9. The seminars were on the topic of Reactive Dogs and Cautious Dogs, each seminar lasting three hours. I urge anyone looking to better understand the in's and out's of reading dog behavior to enlist in these seminars. Watching the owners work their dogs and listening to Nancy and Karen's observations is far more beneficial than reading a book or only working with your dog. Having a better understanding of different dog reactions and understanding to watch for various triggers is a huge benefit in working with shelter/rescue dogs. Two thumbs up for the seminars and I highly recommend For Your K9 for all your training & behavior needs. read more

We signed up for a swim lesson for our dog, but he did not want to swim. The staff there tried their best but our dog just not willing to swim so they allowed him to participate in the barn hunt which he really enjoyed! Great staff and great facility. I wish there were more places like this around. read more

I took my pet here for the Nose class, my dog is an 11 year old terrier who has some social anxiety. My purpose was for him to get used to other dogs, and have fun. They advocated this as a good starter class for older dogs. They secluded me and my dog off to the side and barely worked with us. I was left to do all the activities with him ( I coulda done that at home) There is one teacher for 7-8 dogs and you and your dog will get attention if you are lucky. They forgot about us one time and we barely had any teaching time . Dogs are put in kennels or hid behind a barrier , barking the whole class time. read more

I LOVE this place. I mean, here's the deal. I'm a professional dog trainer myself. I already compete in AKC Obedience and Rally, and I take agility classes at FYK9. I can't even tell you what a relief it is to find a place where I trust the instructors so thoroughly. I never worry that they will make me do something to my dog I'm not comfortable with. You will find no leash jerks or alpha rolls here, just skilled, patient, positive trainers. If you take agility here, they are not ever going to have you drag your dog through or over obstacles. They will help you motivate your dog and learn agility in a safe and positive manner. And I always know that if I say, "Wait, my dog hasn't done that/is nervous/had a bad experience last time," the instructor will say, "Ok, let's make it easier, smaller, or let's skip it for now." No pressure to do anything that could damage my dog's love for agility. As far as patience goes, you should have seen Sue S. and I working on getting my corgi on the teeter. :-) Also, for those dog nerds who are wondering? Yes, yes this is the place to take agility classes if you want to compete. Yes, you will get a solid foundation in all of the skills you need from instructors that compete themselves - instructors who are up to speed on the latest ideas and innovations in the sport. And the facility itself is excellent, great, safe flooring and great quality equipment. I know they also offer a daycare program as well as basic pet obedience and behavioral help as well. AND they have a dock diving pool that I believe you can rent for your dogs! We love FYK9! read more

I took my dog to this place for their leash aggression class. They made my dog much much worse. I use to be able to take him to the dog parkat least but they made him even worse to the point that I can't even take him there. They have you keep your dog behind a screen and bark his head off while another dog with the same problem is doing the same. And your suppose to get the dog to look at you instead. What good is that ever going to do on the street for a walk? We told them we wanted to be able to take him around dogs and get his problem under control and all I got was a dog I can't take any where. DO NOT go to this place, PetsMart did a better job with him. read more

My puppy Maxy goes to the day care full time and loves it....and the best part is she goes right to sleep when we get home from exhaustion (most of the time)!!! The owners and the day care staff are amazing!!! They are all really knowledgeable and really care for all the dogs. read more

I've been taking my younger dog here for training for over a year now. I have not used the day care facility, but I can definitely speak towards the staff regarding training. I think this is one of the nicest places I've trained at. I appreciate they use of Suzanne Clothier's Relationship method and find it extremely helpful for my energetic golden. She really loves the staff there! While working on obedience, the staff helps you work through the distractions such as bouncing balls, running and toys. This is really helpful for those of us in the competition circuit. While I don't use them for my agility training either, they are a full service facility. I sure hope they stick around a long time!!!!!! read more

I'm actually writing this review because of my conversations I have had with my wife. She has 4 dogs and has been into dog training for at least 10 yrs. She has been to numerous classes and some good and some not so good. Not hard to know the good from the bad, because normally I hear about it. Her biggest pet peeve is going to a class and listen to someone talk and talk and talk. Instead of getting a combination of hands on and verbal instructions. Nancy and her staff has been able to do both and from what I have seen and the conversations I have with my wife when I ask that question..."So how was training my dear" ? She is always excited about what she has learned and the up and coming events. Nancy and her staff has also organized many workshops and special classes above and beyound just training. If you just want to improve your K-9's behavior issues or want to enter an amazingly rewarding hobby with your best friend. Dog obiedience, agility and the new sent classes are something you just can not beat. On a side note my wife drives over 30 miles sometimes twice a week to go to training. This would not be the norm at all for my wife...so I would say she enjoys herself. Also I may add this is no backyard training facility. This is a large facility, trained hand pick staff by their ability with plenty of space to work your K-9 Kudo's to Nancy and her staff .....Guys remember a happy wife is a happy life :-) read more

My GSD and I have been customers for over 5 years. What impressed me most was the willingness to accept where my pet was at and work with me to optimize her progress. I continue to rely on the professionalism and compassion shown by the staff. I am only sorry I did not know this when my dog was a pup. Next time around, I will be smarter. read more

Excellent. I found them at a dog show giving pet massages etc.. they allowed me to sit-in on a puppy class one day and I've been a fan ever since. The owner is sooooo nice and her instructors are also courteous, professional and PATIENT, especially with stubborn puppies like mine. The facilities are HUGE and classes are affordable. I have been taking my dog Oliver (Border Terrier) to For Your Canine for about 6 years now. They have worked wonders with him. Nancy, Lisa, and ALL of the rest of the staff are more than helpful. They are truly wonderful with the dogs, and it shows. The dogs love all of them. The new facility that they moved into in September, 2010, is great! There is lots of room, a pool, daycare, massage, and a store. They also offer extra classes and seminars. This is an all around great place if you want to strengthen the bond between you and your dog. Oliver is sort-of a "special needs" dog. He is a terrier and not so good around other dogs. Nancy (and everyone else), has helped me work through this with him. I don't know what I would have done without them! read more

I have brought my little guy and my foster dogs. They are great really take the time to tell you how the dogs were and it really helps with the foster dogs. Most of all I just love how I pick up my crazy terrier and all he wants to do is eat and then sleep that's how I know he had a great day. read more

Focus Fido class is definitely worth the money. Not crowded like the Petsmart classes--only 6 dogs per class. Our dogs have come a long way but they still have a long way to go. I know there will be more classes from For Your K9 in their future. read more

Jill is a wonderful instructor who gives positive, constructive advice to the handlers so we can maximize our dogs enjoyment and performance. My husband and I have been taking classes and attending seminars at For Your K9 for years. We were thrilled when they moved closer to our home. We have taken agility and nosework classes. We have attended nosework and agility seminars. Nancy and the instructors provide a positive training enviroment for both handlers and dogs. They truly want the handlers and dogs to build a working relationship and succeed no matter the goals. Not only do they offer classes at For Your K9, they also plan fun events and invite all to attend with their dogs. We have done a haunted rally course at Halloween, we have participated in a dog Easter egg hunt, we have played the canine version of minute to win it. Very disappointed. Had to give my credit card info just to reserve an appointment. Upon getting to the facility, filling out paperwork and waiting an hour, the trainer Nancy Ramos, never showed up. Very unprofessional. Can't comment on their training, but I'd rather spend my $ somewhere else. Very bad customer service. Some of the worse I've ever come across, very disrespectful to their clients in my opinion. Poor choice. read more

Got a behavioral consult. I was told I can't trust my dog and they should get put on medication. Since that time I have sought out other trainers. My dog's name is Oliver and he's a small greyhound/GSD/terrier mix. When I adopted him at 10 months of age, I was in love as he is my first pup.
