This local store is a real find! They have a good selection of games and the staff are knowledgeable about all of them. If you have a gaming question, it will not go unanswered. My favorite area is the rent-a-game area. You can rent a game (just like you used to be able to at a video store) take it home and play it. $5 gets you 3 days to play. It's a great way to see what games you like before you buy them. They also have a large area for tournaments and playing games in the store. I like buying local and have always liked this store, especially for puzzles. I have learned a lesson and am very disappointed in their return policy. I bought a puzzle and a puzzel mat for a Christmas gift. I paid 24 dollars for the mat. It didn't work well especially for a 1,000 piece puzzle and I took it back. My bad, I no longer had the receipt but I was happy to accept a credit. The credit offered to me was 7 dollars. Rationale was that they could only now resell it used for 15 dollars. What a cool store. I'm a fan of games. Some games. Not mind games. Well, let me rephrase that. Not relationship mind games or silly manipulative interpersonal relationship games. I hate that crap. But I do like games that make my mind hurt - in terms of board games, video games, etc. And I like trivia, and social interaction games, and games of chance. I don't get to play as often as I'd like, but when I do I thoroughly enjoy it. I've played a ton of board games in my life and I'm frankly only so enamored with the classics - Monopoly, Parcheesi, Sorry, Risk, Stratego, etc. Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers definitely made some great games. But I want more. Enter Cloud Cap Games. This store has everything from uber-nerd stuff like D&D/Magic style RPG's and 376-sided die (the kind of stuff I'm not really in to) to innovative and inventive social, board, and mind games from the new innovators in gaming. You'll find all sorts of lesser-known brands here -- games that expand on the old favorite ides and make them new again. Whether you are a MENSA type and in to SET or Quiddler or are craving something slightly more high brow than Apples to Apples, these guys have a ton of options and will help you find just the game you are looking for. I just happened to be in the area with 20 mins to kill so I wandered in here and was kind of blown away. The space is comfortable and fully stocked. They have cool kids games and a good collection of gaming accessories. I walked out with a fun group game that involves trivia and betting - a nice mashup of two good genres in my book. It Boggles my mind how a great shop like this didn't exist in Sellwood before! The selection of games, from the classics to new favorites, can Bridge even the widest generation gaps, bringing families together to play. With such a small footprint, you might think you'll Speed right through, but before you know it you'll have spent half an hour or more checking out all the fun games. It's such a cool shop that I can imagine any time I visit I'll Risk spending all my money! But Cloud Cap is here to help my wallet too with a game trial room that can Clue me in to games that I'll love before I spend any hard earned cash. Having taken Vino's old spot, Cloud Cap hardly has a Monopoly on Sellwood's game market, with Spielworks Toys just around the corner. That said, the two shops are different enough that they can coexist happily without Trouble. It really doesn't take a Mastermind to see that! All in all, I strongly recommend you Go to Cloud Cap Games. It's a magical place where you don't need a Ticket To Ride the train to Candyland. Awesome board games shop. They have most of the FLUXX games here. The price is right and the owner is so nice. She even offered to wrap one of the board games for us because it was for a present. No extra charge and I thought it was so nice of her. You can also rent board games here so you can try it before you buy it. I love this shop and we will be back lots of times. read more

So glad that Cloud Cap Games opened in Sellwood, Sorry that Vino had to vanish to another part of town, but I'll take a great game store over another wine place any day, and I'm not a big gamer. In fact, most of my friends know that I will often try a game once, never to go back, or that I don't like games that include you playing across from a partner. Most of my favorites were present and accounted for at first glance when I walked into this warm, welcoming, fun-filled shop. Very well laid out floor plan, easily labeled, super friendly atmosphere. Yayyyyy!! Board games, my favorite. I was on a search for "Fluxx" (card game) and wanted to buy it locally. I came across this store while in the neighborhood and thought I'd see if they had it. Not only did they have the game but the staff was amazing. They were very friendly, informative, helpful and cool. There's a great back room where you can pick games to play. One of the staff members was playing a game with some kids (cool) and then another decided to sit down and play a game with a couple. She helped them understand the game, it seemed all around genuine. I would definitely come back and suggest it to all my friends. read more

Not having been into a game store in quick a while, I quickly realized there are tons of fun adult (and family) games I've never even heard of. I was planning on just stopping in for a bit, but was soon consumed with reading game boxes and talking with the super friendly and approachable owners. I get the impression between the two of them, they could give you a review on every game in the store, and there seems to be well over a hundred. They are really good at helping find the kind of game you might be in the mood for or even shedding some light on a unknown genre. This place is wonderfully spectacular! Especially if you are looking for something free to do! I never would have dreamed of a board game mecca as wonderful as this. They honestly had every game I was looking for including a couple that I really want to try. As an added bonus they have several out to "sample" while you are there. Plus, if you need a cheap date night for three days $5 will let you rent a board game. What could be better! I also recently went on a Wednesday night to their game night, and that put the icing on the cake to this place. I was by myself and did not know anyone yet I was very happily invited to play a game the moment I walked into the place. Cloud Cap is pretty awesome. The owners/employees are super nice, helpful, and quick to offer honest suggestions and opinions on games. It is the only game store that comes to my mind that focuses 100% on board games (no MTG, miniatures, etc.) which is refreshing to me. They have open play times two nights a week and from what I've seen, the tables fill up pretty quickly. It seems like a lot of the players know each other and make CC a gathering spot. While they have two large tables in the side room, there is less play space here then some of the other game shops around town. My first board game tournament was played here and was a blast. I would love to see CC host them more often. I recently learned that CC will give a 20% discount on preordered games; this is a great incentive to buy new games here. They also have a section of games for renting. I have not used this service but it is a great idea and something I might take advantage of in the future. The coffee shop next door is pretty great too! My recommendation is to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the games at Cloud Cap! read more

My roommate and I recently moved into a new apartment and needed to stock up on our board game selection. Normally we would just shop on Amazon but when we were walking around town, we found this little gem. Staff was friendly and asked if we needed any help finding a game that suited us but, we decided to just look around on our own. The store was well stocked and the games were organized by the categories they fit into. You can also rent popular games for $5. If you check in on Yelp they give you 20% off. The prices are slightly more expensive than if you bought them online but I rather support a small business. I love, love, love Cloud Cap Games. I enjoyed Monopoly, Parchesi, Cribbage, Hearts, and Uno as a kid, but didn't really get into board games until the last 5 or so years. There are a lot of amazingly fun new board games out there, and Cloud Cap Games is the place to find them! They always have great recommendations, will let you play the games right there, and the store just a great space to hang out in. Even if you're not ready to buy a full board game, there are lots of fun items to buy: custom dominos, cool figures, awesome stuffed things, 3D puzzles. Cloud cap games has all your Pokémon/magic The gathering/pretty much every other board game worth playing needs and fits them nicely. They are pretty much are open on many popular holidays which is super nice because most other places are not available (for obvious reasons) and the staff are super friendly and are always educated just about every single game they sell. This place is amazing if your magic the gathering fan(personally I'm a Pokémon kind of guy but they have tons of Pokémon stuff to.)And they literally decorate the walls with Magic cards. After you're done browsing the shelves they have an absolutely amazing sushi place just across the street(but I'm getting off topic) so my opinion you should go to cloud cap and try it for yourself read more

Loved being able to try out the Forbidden Islands game with my companion the other night. This is my new favorite game store in the area. They have a really charming set up, a huge library of games to try before you buy, and a very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They're happy to demo things for you, and are honest about which games might be a good fit and which won't. The best part? While other game stores only have special sales on certain days, Cloud Cap always has a sale table up with select games at 20%+ off. I ended up checking out this little hole in the wall game shop while waiting for a take out order to cook (the cashier gave me the name and suggested I take a peek). I love board games. This place is great. I found a nice, quality made wooden Senet board for $30. There were tons of other games that caught my eye, some of which were quite pricey (many were rare/vintage). Some games are used sets, most are brand new. Prices vary. I wish I'd had more money when I visited! I plan on going back, if only to poke around again and see what they have to offer that I might have missed. I didn't try this the last time I was in there, but there are quite a few games that the staff will let you test-play before buying - which is a really wonderful idea. At the urging of a friend we decided to check out their 1st Saturday Games & Dames girls night. Kirsten was a fantastic hostess and made us feel welcome right away. Nice mix of all ages and everyone was so damned friendly! There was wine by the glass available as well. Our family and a friends family were visiting Portland for the first time and we're having an in night since the kids passed out. My buddy and in saw this place and hopped in and we're looking for a game. The people in the place were the NICEST people in the world! I'm not much of a gamer, but these guys were able to find some games that really appealed to me. They have a whole separate room where you can come and set up a game and play. There are a wide array of cool games in here, including big board games, 2 player, dot to dot for kids, card games, and a bunch of other games. There is also a big bowl of dice for ¢50 each, which is awesome. The only downside is that everything is slightly overpriced. It smells good in there. The staff is nice and the place is clean. Easily my favorite game store in Portland, and certainly worth the trip to Sellwood. They have game nights twice a week, even Saturdays, and the owners are super nice, friendly people who know their games. It's not a Magic singles store, which I prefer, and they have lots of games well-organized, and unlike a lot of stores they keep on top of current releases and have a weekly newsletter with updates. They also took great pains to make the store look awesome with all the art and decorations inside. read more

I visited Cloud Cap for the first time this week and I'm so glad I found it. I've been on a board game kick all year and have visited most of the game shops in the Portland area looking for games. They were quick to offer ordering the game i was looking and having it delivered in two days. They also have great advice and are knowledgeable about their games. This shop has so much charm to it with the decorations! I plan on bringing the family back in for game night this Saturday night and am looking forward to their Tabletop game day at the end of this month. Another endearing factor to this store is their rental policy. I decided to rent two games I've had my eye on but haven't seen enough of to make a decision to buy yet. They allow you to rent the game and the rental price can be taken off the purchase price of the same game up to half off. Very spiffy! read more

I am very happy to see a board game store for people who seriously love their board games (read: play more than monopoly) that doesn't feel like it's run out of somebody's basement. It's actually well-lit, inviting, and has a fantastic selection of board games. I've already bought two games that are very difficult to find in stores (android, mansions of madness) anywhere else. The service is a little less excited-to-see-you than I'd like, unfortunately. However, they are very knowledgeable and helpful. The space is also a little small but that doesn't stop them from holding game nights! They also allow you to rent games which I think is a great feature. This is a fantastic neighborhood store. Hubby and I enjoy stopping in whenever we're in the area. They have a wide variety of products in their small-to-medium sized store but it's well laid-out and doesn't feel overcrowded. I was surprised to see their outdoor space in the back - great place to play games on pleasant days. Their indoor playing room has lots of open games you can play and space for many people and games. I love having the concept of a game rental- then you can try games before you buy. The owner is super nice and helpful and the atmosphere is very relaxed and quiet. I'd suggest this store for more casual gamers though they do sell some Magic: The Gathering, there aren't any role-playing books or video games. But this is a good thing because instead of trying to do everything involved in gaming, they specialize and do a great job in one aspect of gaming- board games and puzzles. If people are looking for new games to play with family or friends, this is the place. It also has a very family-friendly atmosphere and they have a whole shelf dedicated to children's games. I've also found board games I've not seen sold at other game stores (e.g. Guardian Games). If I ever need to look for a new board game, I go here first :) read more
