Fantastic game store. Staff are really helpful and knowledgeable for experienced and novice gamers. After many visits to the store my daughter and I spent $30 on a tutorial lesson from James to learn how to play Magic the Gathering and he was a great coach. Fun for both of us. Strongly recommend. read more

This store is FANTASTIC. The owners are super knowledgeable and are great with making suggestions. You can actually rent games to try them out (considering how expensive games are these days this is a brilliant idea) $5 for a 3-day rental and if you decide to purchase you get the $5 credit towards your game. We have enjoyed everything we have tried so far. Not just games, but puzzles too. There is a whole room with tables set up for play and multiple groups that meet geared towards specific games. I have found that their prices aren't marked up too much from what you could get at a big box store and I would rather give my money to these wonderful locals. They participate with Supportland so rack up your points! read more

I have finally found the golden standard that I will compare all board game stores to. First off, the selection is impressive! They have almost every board game you can think of and would want to buy. This includes kids games and card games as well. They also have some accessories like the small Carcassonne expansions and special dice. One feature that I really like about this place is the large collection of games that customers can play at the store. A great place to take a friend who likes to play games and you want to try a new game out. Also, they have board game night on Wednesdays which is another way to interact with fellow gamers and learn a new game as well. Amazing store and I am glad it is in Sellwood. This a good balance to a neighborhood saturated with antique stores. read more

Friendly owners with a diverse selection of games. Inviting space allowing you to become familiar with the games before you buy. Good inventory, even on grand opening day. read more

Cloud Cap is exactly what a good game store should be. Brightly lit, beautifully decorated, friendly owners / staff and a great selection. The shop itself offers a little something for everyone from Magic and Pokemon tournaments to twice-weekly board game nights that are an outrageous amount of fun. I was nervous about our first trip here, thinking it would be just another grungy, dark, slightly rancid Magic den. I'm so glad I was completely wrong. Even with my horrible social phobia I felt comfortable in Cloud Cap and at our first board game night everyone made my wife and I feel welcome. We will definitely be back for more. As others have said, this is a great place to check out some new games, either in the store or with the truly excellent rental system. Thank you Kirsten and James for creating the store I always wanted to hang out in as a kid; it's even better as an adult! read more

Cool and hip place if you are a gamer...you can even rent board games before you buy them!! Well worth driving into Sellwood for games...Its a must! read more

Great shop, wide variety of games. Was here in a visit and loved the fact that you can rent games for 3 days for 5 dollars. Was able to try out some games but also able to partake in some vacation playing. All the pieces were nicely labelled in the box and the game we rented was in good condition. read more

By far my favorite Portland game shop. Great people, great games and a perfect location. They have rental and demo games if your curious about a game before buying it. The staff are avid board game fans and are always willing to take time to discuss your purchases, make recommendations or just geek out about board games in general. The place is very accessible and welcoming to gamers and casual shoppers alike. Can't say enough good things about these guys. read more

The best kept secret in Sellwood. The staff is very knowledgeable and can point you in the right direction for what games may suit you. In this day and age of video games, smart phones that make you dumber, Internet, and the TV there is really very little time spent with people on an engaging level. Board games is the new old. It allows you to think, have fun with friends and actually talk and have conversations. It's the best. Cloud Cap also has game night in Wednesdays and on the weekends where you can meet new people and play new games. The crowd is very friendly and helpful and can teach you almost any game in the store. Skip amazon, or another place. Support your local and buy your games here. You won't regret it. Trust me. read more

I stopped by this store one evening to pickup some games to rent for the weekend. The gentleman working there was extremely helpful and aided me in finding some really fun games. I love the rental system, it's genius! I highly recommend this place. read more

This place was great! One of the women working there helped me choose a game as a gift for someone, and then we got to playing a quick and easy card game (which I then also bought). I had a lot of fun there. Totally not intimidating, just people who want to share their love of games. I definitely recommend it! read more

This isn't the biggest game store in Portland, but it has the best atmosphere and staff. And that's saying something, as most game stores in PDX have great enthusiastic service. They have made terrific recommendations, and it's clear that the staff knows their games. Cloud Cap seems to specialize in family and party type games, though they do have some role playing games and strategy games... but in this golden age of board games, they have really good product. The lending library is a great idea, for those who want to try out a game before buying it. Also, the best puzzle selection in Portland. read more

Excellent use of space, friendly and informative staff. I really wish I could go to this place on a regular basis, as I enjoy supporting quality local shops. read more

This place is what humans need more of in the world. They've got board games. They've got puzzles. They've got kid's games. They've got game nights. But, most importantly, they've got rentals on board games. You can rent a game for 3 or 7 nights and, if you choose to buy it later, you can apply the cost of your rental to the game. Given that board games can be complex and hit or miss depending on each person playing, this is super useful. The people here are chill and helpful. Love Cloud Cap Games. read more

What can I say about this place? Kirsten and James are amazing, always ready to help with recommendations. I keep coming back for the game nights, though. Every Wednesday and Saturday, there's always at least three games going when you arrive, and keep going into the night. It's a great community service, and a way to try games you might not have given a chance otherwise! read more

Excellent selection of Puzzels - I will be buying one once a month when I attend Games and Dames night once a month! Thanks Cloud Cap !

This place is the best. It's not reserved for gamers. The selection is excellent, the staff is extremely helpful. Love it.

Nice little place. Not as well-stocked as some, but it had a good amount of material for sale, and a pleasant ambiance. Worth a look, for a gamer visiting from out of town... read more

This store is totally as good as the reviews promise. If you are a games expert or a newbie, go here! Go go go!

Board game/RPG nerds rejoice! These totally awesome folks are fighting the good fight against the digital domination of the game world, by offering intelligent, community-building games that leave you feeling satisfied on so many levels. Better yet, they have a number of games you can rent prior to buying. How cool is that? read more

We happened to be staying across the street from this place and wandered in. They rent games like video stores rent movies! You can rent a game (like Settlers of Catan) for three nights for $5. Not bad! They have a really big selection of board games and puzzles to buy, as well. And they have a big room where they host game nights and you can try out open games. What a great idea! read more

One of the gems of Sellwood. If you're a gamer, this is a must see. Even if you're not a gamer, the folks at Cloud Cap will turn you in to one. LOVE this place and will be one of the things I miss most about living here... read more

This hobby game store has the important stuff---knowledgeable staff, great selection, clearance sale table---and then adds board game rentals and a great selection of games to try out. We live in the SF Bay Area, and we wish more of the stores around here were into the try-before-you-buy concept. The rentals are an especially good idea: you may not want to shell out all the cash for a game that takes 3 hrs to play and may make it out on the table once a month. read more

Heard about this game store from someone at Trackers. Went today and found our gaming home. Really nice, sweet game store tucked on a side street of Sellwood. They were hosting a Magic practice day from 4-6 pm Friday that alternates with a Magic tournament for $5 entry the other weeks. Kids our age (all about late elementary to middle school age). They had a nice side room for gaming and a back patio. Lots of games to sample and very friendly staff. While there are many game stores in town, we'd had a hard time finding one the had more post-school gaming hours instead of evening family times. Also many seem good for late teens, while this one felt good for early teens. We'll be back. Lots of fun places to eat nearby too to fill the hour between school getting out and gaming beginning. read more

Friendly, great game choices for all ages, enthusiastic owners...a wonderful place. We were able to find fantastic choices for my non-rule following 6 year old neice, my independent 16 year old and my mostly organized sister. read more

Super friendly staff, happy to make recommendations. The space feels like home, not like the boring sterile environments of most other game stores. Great selection of boardgames for all tastes, and also lots of puzzles and children's games. Game rental shelf is also a unique offering, really great idea for trying before you buy. For those so inclined they also sell beer to enjoy while gaming :) read more

This place was so helpful when I went in looking for a game! I ended up renting a game for 3 nights for $5. That's a good deal, especially because you can apply that $5 to the cost of buying that game. The biggest downside is the cost of games is a lot, BUT you are supporting a local business. read more

Absolutely wonderful shop with a large variety of games and a Knowledgeable friendly staff.

Had a large selection of harder to find games. The clerk was very friendly and helpful in suggesting interesting games. They even had a rental shelf which I think is an awesome idea. read more

What a great day when we get to go into Cloud Cap, It is our favorite shop in all of Sellwood. board games are better than TV

Games and family time are coming back! I went into Cloud Cap on Christmas eve and a nice shop lady helped me to find all the games I needed for my family gathering. The store has an excellent selection of all the popular games and a knowledgable staff. Thanks Cloud Cap! read more

Helpful staff, and for such a small space, some nice game variety. There seemed to be a little bit of something for everybody.

If you love strategy or 'euro style' board games, you have just found your home. The best selection of games I've seen in Oregon. No MTG or miniatures here, just knowledgeable, FRIENDLY staff and very welcoming regulars. Even to a girl gamer. They have game nights every week with 20+ in attendance, games for rent to try out at home, and they allow outside food & alcoholic drinks in store while you game. Couldn't ask for anything more! read more

We have come to Cloud Cap Games on my husband's suggestion to get a game we could play as an entire family during Holidays. Neither of us is big into board games, but it sounded like a nice idea and an escape from the usual Xmas boredom and starring into TV. Even during pre-Holiday rush the owners found time to help us choose the perfect game and steered us away from what could-have-been 12 hour manual reading disaster. The game was a hit! I was also nicely surprised that the game was made in Germany and awesome quality - built to withstand many hours of family fun. Oh and did I mention the selection? I never thought there are that many board games! We are going back and our new fav all occasions gift will be board games :). read more

This is hands-down the best board game shop in Portland. It has a selection about as good as Guardian Games, the store owners are extremely nice, and the weekly game gatherings are well-attended and welcoming. Cloud Cap Games has a warm atmosphere and a great selection of games for children as well as hardcore gamers. 5 stars! read more

Fantastic little shop specializing in all things games. They offer great customer service.

We love this store! I can walk in the door, tell the employee what kind of game/age group I want, and every time they directs me to at least five great choices. Thank you for keeping family game night alive! read more
