This spa has a very high turnover of ownerships. Whatever you do, DO NOT commit to a monthly membership as current management will not honor spa policies. I cancelled my monthly membership about 2.5 years ago and was told the remaining 8 floats on my account has "NO" expiry date. I can in fact share my floats to friends and family who wishes to experience the spa. When I reached out to the spa this time to utilize my floats I was advised that the spa has changes ownerships twice and they proceeded to tell me the "intent of the previous owner" and blatantly advised that my floats are expired even though they still have access to old clients account information. Sure, new ownership, new rules and policies. I'm disappointed at how current management chose to handle their business. It is very poor business practice as they have not made any attempts to properly communicate to their clients of ownership and/or spa policy changes. I'm a huge advocate and believer in the use of sensory deprivation tanks but based on this experience alone I cannot recommend this spa. After a much anticipated float session the attendant didn't turn the lights on. The music came on but no lights. I was left fumbling in the dark to find the light switch but this was only the beginning of my horrific experience. In the middle of the night I awoke to an awful itch. I broke out in a terrible rash that necessitated a visit to the local clinic and resulted in a week of sleepless nights lathered in Corticosteroid ointment. When approached the staff was unapologetic and dismissive, suggesting that I was somehow to blame "as far as I know this has only happened one other time" ....Right, sure, tell me another one..... read more

When my sister and I went early for our float to fill out waivers, my first time but she's been once to another one in Gastown), we were not greeted by the receptionist. We sat down and helped ourselves to the forms on the coffee table. After filling out the forms for 10 minutes, i approached the receptionist to hand it in. I was 2 feet in front of her and she completely ignored us and once again did not greet us. I just left it on the counter. She only called our name. I gave her the gift certificate that I had and paid for my sister. A tip was asked for on the machine but I don't think I should have paid until the end as I didn't k is what the service level would be. Please be more welcoming to your customers especially new ones. The attendant who showed us into the rooms and explained everything was very good. The float was fine. The vanity area is in basically a sink and mirror along the hallway to the bathroom so there is no privacy. I wouldn't call this a spa experience which was what I was looking for. Not for me..... I went in for i think all of 5 min... maybe 10... I was so excited too!! unfortunate for me my eczema started to burn sooooooo bad... then when i tried to get out it was so slippery! a fly on the inside of the tank would have been laughing at me!!! but i did start to panic a little as well because i just wanted out and could not get door open!!! ahhhhhhhh! now for the ambiance: nice... nothing to special but nice. now for the woman behind the counter (i think the owners mother) she was very attentive but a little HIGH stressed.... She did give me 30 min on the massage water bed to make up for the fact that i did not do the 75 min float so that was nice but i didn't feel relaxed because she was not the most "calming" individual and i found her a little "short" tempered with other staff working there. I didn't care for the tea. I tried... i did not like .... but maybe you will have a better experience..... read more

Cloud9 does a great job with the float spa concept. Bright and cheerful space, with walls of white or blue, and a bright turquoise non-slip floor throughout. Staff are very friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful. Easy to book an appointment, and they also called the day prior with a reminder about key information. When you arrive, you swap your street shoes for spa slippers, and fill out a form. When it's time for your float, you're brought into a room with your tank, a shower, and supplies such as bodywash, earplugs, etc. Unisex washroom is down the hall. Your room is entirely private and lockable. Once you're on your own, you put in earplugs, wash up, cover cuts, and get in the tank. If you have concerns about possible claustrophobia, you might be better off in the traditional tank, which is larger and allows you to open/close the tank door manually. The pod is a little more high tech and smaller, and when you push a button the clamshell-type lid slowly lowers. When your time is up, the music and lights slowly come up, you exit (carefully, just as you would a bathtub - not any more or less slippery!), wash up, get dressed, and then do anything else you need to (blowdry, contact lens) at the vanity in the hallway. The only improvement I'd suggest is to have a mirror in your pod room. It's a fun thing to try out and see if it's for you, and Cloud9 is a great place to do that. read more

A surprisingly pleasant experience, I've been 5 times over the past 3 months and feel rejuvenated each and every time. It's a nice pause to my otherwise hectic schedule, and I find their staff to be very courteous and cordial. My one complaint is I when I was in the pod closest to the door, I could hear the reverberation of the traffic of heavier vehicles (I think there was construction going on), it was pretty minor but worth noting. The other tanks were supremely quiet and completely immersive. I definitely recommend this as something everyone should try for the experience, I don't think it's for everyone but I doubt many would find it unenjoyable. read more

My first float went fine and I was pleased that nothing bothered me inside the chamber. My neck took a while to finally relax but I found that turning my head to the right and left every 15 minutes or so helped a lot. I couldn't believe how long an hour felt but didn't fall asleep. My mind was fairly quiet and I did some positive affirmations several times. I enjoyed the feeling of weightlessness very much. I enjoyed the float itself and will give this rating 3 stars, but there are things I didn't like about the before and after experience. These are mostly easy fixes, if the owner cares to speak with his staff: You have to pay in advance, which is fine, but I resent being asked for a tip (Interac tip option) before I know what I'm tipping for. I tipped 10% - better than nothing but not tipping them fully when I don't even know if a tip is deserved. There was no acknowledgement of the tip, although I've stopped expecting one because tips seem to be expected rather than appreciated these days. You're asked to take off your shoes in the lobby, which left me barefoot for the rest of the appointment. No one offered me shower shoes or paper slippers so I had to walk down the hallway to the bathroom & mirror area in bare feet. Other clients were also bare-footed and I couldn't help but wonder if there was Athlete's Foot or some other nastiness in these common areas, waiting to target my feet. The spa room floors get a little slippery, and the bottom of the float structures are very slick. You have to sign a waiver stating that if anything goes wrong, in any way, you will not hold them responsible. Maybe better non-slip flooring would be a good idea for them. If someone falls - especially a senior - negative word of mouth can be almost as bad as a law suit. The shower stall is a tiny corner unit with very touchy taps. A millimetre too far to the right and you're scalded. Overcorrect even slightly and you've got icy water falling on you and no room to escape it. I'm not a large person but found that I kept hitting the walls with my elbows and had to back into the corner in order to lather up my legs. How in the world would a man fit? There is only one towel provided so you're using the same towel to dry off the salt water from your hair (so it doesn't run into your eyes on the way to the shower stall) that you use after your shower. Having a hand towel to protect your eyes on the walk between the container and the shower is a simple fix - assuming the facecloth you get for inside the container is already wet. When you're finished and have dried your hair, you're offered a cup of tea. That was fine but I sat in the lobby sipping my tea, while the staff milled around and totally ignored me. No one asked me about my first float and I felt that they were finished with me. The website says that you're there for 2 hours but after waiting for the staff to acknowledge me, I finally left without even a goodbye glance from them. At the 2-hour mark, I was driving home after ordering Chinese food at the nearby restaurant and waiting 15 minutes for it to be made. The experience would have been so much nicer if there'd been a staff member dedicated to the front to interact with clients when they finished their floats. While I was sipping my tea, the phone rang and rang while staff scrambled to prepare the rooms for the next round of clients. Overall, the float was nice but I'm not sure I'll do it again. My aches and pains were only slightly better after an hour in the salt water, contrary to other people's reviews, and the lack of customer service ruined the experience for me. Makes me wonder how people who don't tip at all are treated. read more

I originally planned to go to Float House in Gastown, but came to Cloud 9 Instead because of the lack of available appointments on the week I wanted to float. I had been planning to try a float tank for a few years now, but kept putting it off because of health issues or me being too broke (it's $65 a single float, or you could get 1 float a month for $45 a float which is probably the best deal). For those who are not familiar with floating, allow me to explain as brief as possible. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be drifting through space with no sign of a beginning or end? A float tank, also known as an isolation tank, is the closest you can get without leaving Earth or dying from the lack of oxygen. The water in the tank is kept at body temperature so you barely even feel like you're underwater. There's also 900lbs of magnesium sulfate (epsom salts) dissolved in the water so you will float regardless of size, weight, and swimming ability. After the float, I didn't go on a rampage unlike what happened at the end of the movie Altered States. Instead, I was feeling completely pain free (I've been having back and neck problems for a few years now) and in a state of total bliss and peace. There is nothing else really quite like the float experience in the conscious, physical world. It was almost as if you had gone back being a baby in a mother's womb. I highly recommend that everyone should try a float tank at least once in their lifetime. I also did a 10 minute hydromassage after my float for some extra relaxation and tension release. Hydromassage is basically an automated massage chair/bed that uses water pressure to massage your back, legs, and neck. The only complaint I found was that the setting it was on was a little too strong for my liking. I do have some words of warning though. The high salt concentration seemed to irritate my sensitive skin leaving me with rashes on my upper back and around the neck area. If you have sensitive skin as I do, I would suggest bringing along skin soothing cream (I use either pure aloe vera gel or Aveeno Anti-Itch) in case you do get that. I would also suggest asking them if you can bring along your own soap (make sure it's unscented and doesn't leave residue) as I found that the soap/shampoo they provided in the shower irritated my skin. They have several different tanks for you to try out. I tried the pod tank which looked like something out of a sci-fi movie with the automatic door and sleek design. I would like to try either the standard box tank or the float tub (which is recommended for claustrophobics). There is also a couple's float tank which fits two people inside for those who don't like to float alone! P.S. the complementary post-float tea was delicious and really calming. read more

This was my first experience in a floatation tank after hearing about them over a year ago. I was greeted by two very friendly staff in their immaculate and relaxing front reception. The environment is warm and inviting. I was explained thoroughly the "how-to's" of floating, then left on my own. The tank itself was spacious, and the whole experience was somewhat surreal. It took me over 60 minutes to start feeling more relaxed. You really have to let go, which is very hard. I found my neck was tense and holding me up, instead of relaxing. In about the last 10 minutes, I was able to drift off to sleep, which was nice. The only downside for me, which would not be for everyone, is the heat and humidity in the tank. I am unable to relax when breathing in such hot stuffy air. After suffering for about 30 minutes, I opened the door, and got fresh air. It was the only way I could have remained relaxed. Very nice body wash, shampoo and conditioner is provided in their rainfall showers. After the float I was given some very tasty tea and water. I might buy this tea next time I am there. Next time I am trying the pod tank, and even though there is a couples tank, I doubt I would do that. I think it defeats the purpose of floating for me. Overall I would recommend this to anyone. Working in healthcare and athletics, I see benefits for the young, old, in pain, stressed and ill. read more

It was my first float experience and I thought it was good to try. It was relaxing but I felt myself becoming a bit bored after a while. The massage bed powered by water jets you can use before or after your float is heavenly and the best part about this place. I'm thinking of giving it another shot in the future. One thing that really turned me off about this place is the fact that you have to pay in advance and give a tip without even knowing how the experience will be and without knowing what kind of service you will get. I would feel much better about this place if they would let me pay after my float so i can give an accurate tip to whoever is helping me. read more

Did my first soak along with some friends. We all have various pain issues. I loved my 90 minutes. I was in the tank. Total blackness a few minutes into my soak and it was awesome. I'm actually clausterphobic and managed without any issues at all. It is very slippery as you get in, and they didn't warn us about it, so be aware the actual tanks are slippery and be cautious getting in if you are nursing injuries. The lights turned on at the end of my soak instead of the music I was expecting. They have everything you need including q-tips, ear rinse, ear plugs, Vaseline (for nicks) and shampoo/cond and body wash. They use the Seacrest brand of product which is great for some people but sucks for me because the perfume in it gives me a migraine. I used the body scrub thinking it was just sea salt and only figured out it was strongly perfumed after it was already too late. Kind of sucks to get a raging migraine when the whole point of my soak was to help with my migraines. Afterwards we all chilled in the lounge with a complimentary tea. We were super chill and looked like we were the perfect example of healthy red-cheeked zen folk. The staff tried pretty hard to pressure us to buy a "first day only special" which none of us chose to buy because we were not sure how we'd feel later. I'm all for a deal but really needed to feel my body a bit to see if it would be something I'm repeating. The monthly membership sounds like the best deal if I do join. Sadly, they are a bit far from home so I may have to wait until there is something closer. Helpful hints: -use the Vaseline if you have any nicks -be careful with hair dye. I came out a few shades lighter and did not even sort of have a recent dye job. (I'm 100% cool with lighter) -be very aware the tubs are slippery getting in -don't have any expectations of the experience itself, just go with it -touching your face in any way leads to salt in your eyes which really stings -if you touch your lips, you will get water in your eyes and have a horrific taste in your mouth -put your arms up under your neck or above your head to help with a sore neck (mine is super sore today) -there is a HUGE candy store in the complex -the sushi place next door offers the largest serving sizes I've ever seen! I would totally recommend anyone to try this. I'll be floating again. read more

I purchased two floats for my husband and father in law for father's day. I was told by the lady at the counter they cannot put the amount on a gift card because it was a special pricing they were offering which seemed odd but I didn't question it. My husband booked his float week and brought the receipt from my purchase and was accused of trying to scam them and was almost turned away. What was supposed to be a nice relaxing experience turned into a unnecessary debacle. Very disappointing. read more

i had a groupon for my first time visiting this business. i couldn't make my deadline of the groupon as i was out of town, and the owners were nice enough to let me extend the expiry date a full week. i used the solarium room. it was super clean and beautiful. it would be ideal for floaters who are unsure about being enclosed in the tank as it is open to the air. still sensory deprived though. it was perfect, they offered me tea when i left, the waiting area is nice and inviting. great place to float. recommended. plus they have a medi-plan, which i haven't seen anywhere else, and if you meet the requirements you can float a bit cheaper. read more

This was my first time ever floating. First impressions are important.. You pay a lot of money for this service which is labeled as being a "spa" however I felt rushed. I think the main problem is that the float times for each unit are not staggered, so there is a line up of people at the door all coming in for the same time. If you sign up for the hydro-massage bed, then you end up having to wait as well. I found it nice that they have a vanity with supplied hair dyers and flat irons so that I could dry my hair while I waited for the massage. I think they really do need to work on maintaining the "spa" atmosphere as it is very laid back. For the money they charge, it should be a lot more professional and relaxing as with any spa. I used the float pod and my first reaction was "wow this is great!" after a few minutes I got very cold, as half your body is above water. I was not able to relax enough to sleep being cold and having goose bumps. I found myself stretching and floating back and forth trying to relax. My neck got very sore and I found myself trying to support my neck with my hands most of the time as well. There is a shower in ever room which is nice, they provide hair ties, q-tips, vaseline (USE this on any scrapes or scratches!! you will feel the burn when you enter the tank water. The burning sensation only lasted a moment for me though, so no real issue.) I also LOVED that they provided shampoo/conditional and body wash in dispensers on the wall. I didn't really think you would have a full shower. I thought it would be the same as any pool and just rinse off for a few minutes. It is high quality product as well and smells amazing! My hair felt so soft. I also enjoyed the tea that was served to me after my float and I got to spend a few mins chatting with others that had just finished their first float experience as well. The facility was very clean and I watched them clean the room I was about to use and they are very thorough. My suggestions: - Maybe look at setting the water temp a degree or two higher? A few others had mentioned being a bit cold as well. - Work on the spa atmosphere and I think this place would be even better! read more
