This is my first time to Korean spa in Canada. I was looking for descent body scrub and this place gave me the experience what I had in Seoul in Korea. The facility is dated and needs more improvement. I needed a paper cup for water fountain at relaxing room, shampoo and body soap at shower. A clock in the sauna. Receptionist was very friendly since I called them booking. The body scrubber, Cindy was awesome. I had basic scrub 30 min for $60. When the booking time comes, the scrubber came to hot tub area to call the TIME, not name. If she called your TIME, head to the bed. I was wearing swimsuits but over the curtain, Cindy asked me to change paper made panty. That was awkward experience but understand she scrub every inches. I think 30 min was good enough for it. Last 5 min, she gave me quick facial with lavender infused steamed towel and gel. And neck and shoulder massage. For spa corner, I would say the salt room is my favorite. After the scrub was done, I changed to provided lounge clothes and stayed in salt room for a while. Just lay down on the mat and let the body soak the minerals. It's bit lighting down and quiet room and perfect for napping. Slightly warm but not hot like sauna. About billing. The charge was $60 for scrub. $25 for spa facility. And paid some doller for scrub mitten that you can use next time. That was fine. When I checked in, they asked me to sign the waiver and pay. That was fine too. I did see staff cleaning before we left, so I know they maintain it regularly, but the space still felt older and not as fresh as I expected. I loved JJ Family Spa. It was a very nice time and quiet ambiance. I did book a one hour combo massage, but I arrived early to try all the different relaxation rooms that they have. This spa is definitely older than some others I have been to, but don't let that deter you. The massage was seriously great, and the sauna rooms that they have are fantastic. Be mindful of when you make a visit because sometimes it can be super busy! Went on a weekend an hour before they closed so it wasn't too bad. I liked that they had a few rooms (charcoal, cold) to choose from that were common and then a few separated by gender. The salt room was my favourite because it was so cozy in there. I was looking forward to using the hot and cold tubs but felt it wasn't sanitary. I didn't see anyone showering before entering the tubs and there wasn't any soap provided in the shower area either to do this. So I wasn't a fan. Apparently the men's side offers soap and shampoo but the womens doesn't. I feel this should be made clear on the website because I was definitely not prepared and had to shower again when I got home. I suggest also bringing a towel because they only offer small ones. read more

It's my first time trying out Korean spa and it's so relaxing and fun! I love the hot tub, steam room, and salt room. It also has charcoal room, yellow earth room, and dry sauna. What a great way to relax. It's $20 for 3 hours. The time passes by really fast here. I recommend coming with your friends. It's more fun with more ppl. Sure, the facilities are old and careworn and mismatched and uneven. Sure, they play the same aimlessly noodling piano tune on infinite loop for hours on end. Sure, the salt room is lit with a single bare lightbulb. If you want to feel pampered, go luxuriate at Art of Sauna for twice the price. But if you simply want to go somewhere affordable for a few hours and treat your body to some kindness and come out feeling rejuvenated and almost human again, then this is the place. I've also had two massages with Gary and he's better than many RMTs I've been to - precise and strong. This ain't a five-star facility, but I'm giving five stars here because for what they offer for the price, they're great, and I appreciate them being in the community. read more

My girlfriends wanted to try this place out. I work in the area so I've heard about it. Really no expectations. I had booked a facial and just wanted to use the saunas and facilities. It's showing its age, but its clean and I enjoyed the saunas, steam room, hot tub so on. You're given an outfit to wear if you're wanting to use the common areas. I used some of the co-ed rooms as well but the were ok. The facial was ok, more of a face massage / upper body massage then anything. Our group has stopped going to JJ's. They have changed their hours "AGAIN". It used to be open until midnight. Then they changed the hours to close at 10pm, then 9pm, and now they've changed their hours again, and now close at 8pm. What the hell is going on? Anyone that works until 5 or 6pm can no longer go. By the time we get home from work, get our stuff together and drive to Port Coquitlam, it's too late. It's expensive to go. Minimum $25 just to get in, and then have to get out in an hour. These people are going to put themselves right out of business because they have no consideration for people that have to work all day. Shame on you JJ's management!! read more

Today I made the trek from Vancouver to Coquitlam for the Korean spa experience at JJ Family Spa. The reviews for this place are all over the map, so much so that I was a little anxious about going through with the visit, but I'm glad that I did. As you can gather from others' commentary, this is not the kind of high dollar experience where you're donning a 1000 thread count robe and drinking cucumber water in between $200 facials. It's utilitarian, functional, and very affordable. BEFORE THE VISIT: If you're interested in doing one of their add on services, best to call and book in advance. I reserved the 30 minute exfoliating scrub, which runs $45. They want you to be softened up for the scrub, so plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before to soak in the warm pool or in one of the saunas. The spa visit on its own, without any additional services, is a separate $18 entry fee. WHAT TO BRING: 2 small towels are provided, in addition to shorts and t-shirt (which are to be worn in the common areas, including the women's only salt room, the unisex infrared room, and charcoal room). I was really glad that I had brought an additional larger towel, and also flip flops for the wet areas (they aren't permitted in the dry areas). There are hairdryers, some basic lotion, and q-tips provided in the women's area. Bring your own toiletries if you're selective about that type of thing. I also recommend a water bottle, as it's important to stay hydrated when you're going in and out of the saunas. ARRIVAL: After I checked in with a very nice receptionist, who also gave me a locker key, I changed into my kit and tried out the salt room (one of the rooms where you are required to be clothed). The floor is strewn a layer of salt crystals and is heated, like a dry sauna. You're supposed to lay on the blankets that are covering the salt for a brief period of time. The format for the charcoal and infrared rooms is similar--some form of laying on the floor in whatever unique conditions that room promises. I liked the temperature in the charcoal room, a bit cooler than some of the other areas. POOLS AND SHOWERS: Before you go into one of the pools or sauna rooms, you must shower. Again, the area where the pools and showers are is segregated by sex, so I was with women only. Most of the patrons go in the buff for this part of the experience, so if you're a bit shy, the extra towel can help. I did see a few people with bathing suits, but in general I think the protocol is naked. There are 2 pools--a smallish warm whirlpool and a cold pool. In addition there are dry and wet saunas in this area. It was all a bit smaller than I had anticipated, but there are plenty of rooms to rotate between. THE SCRUB: When your scrub appointment time is up, they ask you to be present in the pool/bath area, where the scrubs happen. They'll shout our your appointed time (i.e. 12:00) and you meet the lady doing the treatment behind a curtained off area. The scrub happens on a plastic table that is repeatedly flooded with warm water as you are exfoliated with some sort of mitt within an inch of your life. Again, this procedure takes place in the buff, and there was another one going on at the table next to mine, simultaneously. It's all very business-like. I specifically asked not to have my face exfoliated, so if you have any areas where your skin is sensitive, let them know. OVERALL VIBE: On a Sunday afternoon, the place was relatively quiet. There are an abundance of signs posted everywhere giving you every possible instruction and rule, leaving very little room for confusion. I didn't see any families there, but I felt totally safe and relaxed the entire time. All spa staff seemed respectful and professional. Apparently they've also just opened a cafe, offering coffee and Korean food, which I didn't get to this time around. Again, the facilities are not brand sparkling new, so expect to see some worn corners and don't look for state of the art anything. That said, it accomplished what I needed it to, and at a fraction of the cost of what a Vancouver day spa would charge. read more

One of the things I did that was new for the year was to go to this place with my partner, I had sort of a clue what to expect after watching that comedic episode of Conan O'Brian visiting a Korean Spa (if you don't know what I am talking about, go see it) but you really do not know until you actually go in here and experience it. First off, just know that the name of this place is valid, this is not your dirty, shady, underground 'spa' that you hear of, this is really a place where you can bring your spouse, and yes, your kids too, if you choose. When you enter this place, you pay first, and if you want any extra services like massages, body scrub, etc... I suggest you call in to book a time, they do get booked up and you will be lucky to get anything if you just drop in. Just know that dropping in just to use the facilities is $18. Before you even think of coming in just know that you have to put your fears away at being naked in front of other people, do not say I did not warn you! Yes, on each side, female/male, in those changing rooms, when you go into the 'wet' area you are naked, and most likely there will be other people you don't know that are full on naked. This is the perfect equalizer of just being human. So first off, you pay and are provided a pair of shorts and t-shirt from the place and a locker key to put your personal belongings away. When entering the changing room, the lockers are pretty big and have a separator and hangers. Once in, you have access to the heated salt room, and read the sign, keep your clothes (uniform) on. I will get to some things at the end I had minor problems about.. and it is not to do with the business but the patrons. Now we can talk about the wet/nude area... so here is where, there are signs saying to please remove clothes. Once you enter, the male side (as this is the area I am telling you) there is a big hot tub, some chairs around, showers (with soap and shampoo, as I heard from my partner the woman's side doesn't have this?) then there is a dry sauna, a cold tub (oh, this is ICE cold) and a wet sauna. All of them are working quite well, as in.. the cold is cold enough.. and the heat is definitely right, not like some places you go in wondering... hey does this work??? There is a common area here, and that is if you come with the opposite sex and want to hang out and relax. The main area has a couch, a big tv, a massage chair that takes coins, one of those pulsating machines with waist bell to help you slim up... and there are rooms for relaxation, the cool room, this is like mild a/c on the feel, but if you came from a real hot situation this is a good place to chill (pardon the pun) and infrared room (I think I stayed too long in here as I stayed in here too long) and an earth room.. I didn't feel anything in here.. but just lay in peace. It is a very relaxing experience, as being in here I couldn't think of any daily activities or stresses, this place is great to come with your significant other as a sort of cheap getaway, whether just using the spa facilities, or adding extras like a body scrub or massages (call ahead). It is a little hidden at first so use your GPS coming here. Now.. to the complaints.. the thing is really the people who come here and do not follow the rules posted on the walls and doors. People would be talking loud in this place where there are a number of signs stating this is a quiet place, so please respect the place and also why people are coming here, to relax. The other thing is to follow the rules on clothes.. especially having them on in the salt room, the door clearly states this, to have your clothes on, yet both times I have been here I have seen people go in purely bare, and wet. 2.5 stars! i was suprised that this is the only traditional korean JJB in greater vancouver. it has all the standard features. dry and steam sauna. cold plunge. a hot tub. heated rooms which are coed where you wear pajama like t-shirt and shorts. Rooms like a salt room and clay room with proported health benefits. A cool down room which definitely could be colder. its a bit run down and could use a make over. but it wasnt very crowded on a sunday morning so it was relaxing enough. it is also really cheap at $18 canadian dollars for entry and you can stay for hours and hours. read more

As far as I can tell (as a visitor) this is the only Korean-style day spa aka jjimjilbang in the Vancouver area. They have a few wet and dry rooms -- jacuzzi, cold plunge, wood, salt, charcoal, infrared, ice, maybe one other; skin treatments and massages; a sitting area. The restaurant is closed for at least a few months. It's smaller than the jjimjilbang I usually go to, so the couches were full on a Friday evening, and rather than a central hangout area between the spa rooms, it's more of a hallway. They allow swimsuits in the sex-specific wet areas. Not the cleanest, biggest, or newest, but very relaxing and there were more spa rooms than I expected! I was looking forward to trying out this day spa as soon as I could leave my infant, as I have been craving saunas and relaxation for the last 10 months! The facilities are definitely not fancy- but it gets the job done. With holes in the ceiling, sand in the hot tub, and grime on the shower walls- it left me wanting to take a hot shower when I was done. I also booked a facial and massage combination. It was a no-frills experience. No assessment or discussion- just "get on the table". The massage was good until she started pulling my limbs and massaging my abdomen. I found that far too strong and I told her ahead of time that I did not want any pulling as I am hypermobile and can get injured. The co-Ed facilities were okay... the earth room just seemed like a room that people laid in. My favorite was the salt room! I wish I would have spent more time there read more

This spa was pretty alright! Their rooms were all great, the steam rooms were wonderful. My friends and I had a great time in the heated and cool rooms. A woman that was in the actual spa was more informative on what do and give us the rundown. The massages were super weird from the male masseur. I would absolutely not pay for one again, the guy didn't talk to me without prompting and I had to ask all the questions. I had to ask if I should undress, he said yes and didn't like turn around at all, and the door was open. The actual massage was just not super great either. Towards the end of my massage a woman came in to yell at him for taking too long. He straddled my friend in a very odd way. Two of my friends had a a woman who was great. One for a cupping massage, and the other one a regular backrub. She was attentive to them and they have rave reviews for her! She asked them lots of questions on what they would like to focus on and addressed them professionally and directly. We had some dumplings and spring rolls at the cafe, and they were fine. Kinda like ones you'd get to heat up at home. Personally, I'd go again, especially for the price, but I probably would skip their extra services. read more

This Korean-style spa is truly unique and completely relaxing. It consists of a number of heated rooms, hot tubs, and saunas, which you enter for a few minutes at a time, then take a rest period, and then go in again. The cost for admission is $15, and you don't need an appointment. It's completely free form and self-paced, and you can stay as long as you like, although two hours seemed like a good amount of time. Although I was a bit confused at first about what I was supposed to do, I soon picked up the vibe. The spa is divided into men- and women-only areas, with a co-ed area in the middle. The co-ed area includes the heated Earth room, two rest areas with TVs playing Korean soap operas, and a cafe. The women-only area (and I assume the men's as well) had a Salt room, in which you lie on blankets spread on top of a gigantic layer of coarse salt. The idea is that evaporated salt particles in the area draw out impurities or some such thing. All I know was that it was like lying on a very comfy beach. When you enter, the spa provides you with towels, a locker, and a shorts-n-top combo to wear. In the aforementioned rooms, you wear the outfit; in the wet, "onsen" area, it's time to go nekkid. Here is where I tried out the dry and steam saunas and the hot tub, with quick cold showers in between. The saunas and the hot tub were just barely lit with little LED lights, so I didn't feel so self-conscious hanging out in the buff. My friends who went to the onsens in Japan said this is the closest thing you get to that experience in Canada. If you go, though, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the experience, as I didn't and thus felt drier than a bone when I left. I was pretty tired too - don't plan too much for afterwards. But hanging out in the heat was also excellent for my cold - I feel much less sniffly after sweating it out! read more

Lovely little find here in Coquitlam. Went for the ladies scrub A package. My appointment was at 1 pm on a Saturday - but you need to arrive at least 30 mins early to use the wet rooms to open your pores. I wish I showed up maybe an hour earlier because you cannot use the hot tub or sauna/steam room afterwords according to my lady who scrubbed and massaged me. The spa is nothing fancy but I like that. In the common areas there are yellow earth room at 100°, charcoal room at room temperature an ice room and a common area for both sexes (couches etc). There is also a cafe. Slightly pricy but nothing crazy ($4.50 iced coffee though it was large) and I want to support the business. Women's locker room had a salt room that was hot, then the wet room. This included showers (lots of showers, a cold tub (heads up its the first thing you see when leaving the locker room, don't make the mistake I made and jump right in!), sauna, steam room and hot tub. There are areas that are closed off with curtains and this is the treatment areas (scrubs etc). There is a toilet at the back of the wet room. Only swimsuits or naked in the wet room. All but one person was naked (leave the insecurities at the door, no one cares here :) with women of all shapes and sizes etc) if anything the one person with a swimsuit stood out. Was welcomed by a wonderful gentleman who gave me a tour of the coed areas and described the women's section for me. Signed a waiver and he gave me my uniform (they literally have all sizes have no worries) and locker key. No phones or cameras in the area and signs all around asking you to be quiet. read more

For more than 3 years I have enjoyed this spa. The owner and the staff are really wonderful. Very inviting and helpful. Prices are fair - $18 admission for all amenities, not including massages of course. Seniors rate is $14 each. Cafe hosts delicious Korean meals and treats from $7-14. Spa is clean and kept up, tho it's not a yaletown chic and trendy place. It has its character and is welcoming. Hot tub is HOT (kept at 39-40 degrees Celsius), sauna and steam are hot also. The SALT ROOM is very relaxing and warm. The cold pool is great though I don't think it is circulating clean water, so I avoid it. Still, me and my friends go every week. read more

For $15 it's reasonable, it has everything - hot tub, steam room, sauna and cold tub plus free internet. I would give it four stars if it wasn't a bit rough around the edges. Literally - the tilework is pretty sketchy and seems to have been constructed in a rush. For example, the floors are very uneven. It's not hard to find duct tape used as a construction material. Also, I was bothered by the random objects left lying around like a bottle of bleach and a garden rake. These are potentially dangerous as kids use the facility. Also, the control panel for the sauna was open (it should be locked or out of sight). The salt and charcoal rooms are nice and unique. The charcoal room is interesting because it's down the hall from the eating area so it's neat to see how the charcoal sucks up all the smell. Overall, I would probably choose one of the newer aquatic centers if I wasn't missing a Korean version. But since it's the only one around it's acceptable. read more

The cons: - throw sanitary out the window - I got a body scrub, the lady was great, but when it got to "washing" me off she used a communal body loofa - it was pretty gross, but I just looked past the thought - renovations definitely need to be done to make the wet spa look more up to standards Only reason for the 3star - is being one who likes cleanliness, the stars dropped. Fantastic. If you're looking for huge fluffy white towels, nice big fluffy white robes, discrete covering, pedicures and the like... then this is NOT the place for you. But if you're looking for traditional Asian or Russian bathing, this is as close as it gets for several hundred kilometres - and it's great. Very respectful, very good services (I like the full body scrub the best), and simple cotton shirts and shorts, slippers, and little towels are complementary and are all just fine. The men and women are segregated, particularly in the wet areas. In the wet areas, clothing is not recommended but bring your bathing suit if you don't want to go naked. Naked is very accepted in the segregated wet areas. This place is all about soaking and washing and detoxing. Basic, basic, basic. The place is very clean and totally fine. I LOVE the full body scrub... a full 30 minutes of scrubbing every inch of my body several times with a good strong soap (but not too strong for my sensitive skin). Very thorough and very respectful. For your first time, remember, men on one side, women on the other. They give you clothing and towels and slippers and point you to the changing area with lockers (you wear the key), and you change, and try out several different rooms and modes: dry sauna, steam room, cold plunge, hot tub, washing area... if you're having a scrub (and oil massage afterward?!!!), they come and get you from the wet room so leave at least a half hour to an hour to soak and wash and hang out in the wet area BEFORE your service, and some time afterward to change into the provided shirts and shorts (or your own lounge clothes), and spend time lounging and trying the different detox saunas in the common area (where men and women can use together). They provide complementary shampoo and body soap, so no need to bring your own... unless you want to. In fact, you can bring anything you want to hang out, bathe and wash and dry your hair, and lounge clothes and flip flops to travel around. But, if you just stop in on your way through Coquitlam, there's NO NEED to bring anything with you. They provide everything you need and it's all just fine. You can stay for the entire day for the entry fee of $15. Add the cost of a 30-min full body scrub is $45 (for women, $40 for men). A book of 11 entry tickets is $150. read more

Yep. I lived in Korea, and got hooked on the "Jim-jil-bang". It was my super relaxing thng to do on Sundays. Also, whenever I travelled in Korea, I just slept on the ondol (heated) floors. Super cheap (about 8 bucks or won) and you fall asleep and wake up to a spa. What could be better than that? Well, what's suffient here in Vancouver, is the closest thing; JJ Spa. It's way out in Coquitlam, and worth it. If you go, be sure to know that naked is normal there. I know, you might feel like, 'um, no way I'll do that'. But, yes you can. You CAN wear a bathing suit...but to get the experience in a sit down Japanese/Korean style shower scrub down, I'd recommend naked-ness, free as a bird. After you're scrubbed, (try the scrubbers u can buy at the front for a dollar or two), you can go to the hot tub and soak and relax a bit. Or go to the wet sauna. Or you can get your shorts and tshirt (that they provide) and go into the quartz room. You lay down on the hot rocks that suck out bad stuff from your body, and you feel absolutely amazing after! You can go into the public areas and watch some Korean tv. If you're lucky the funny shows will be on. You'll be wonder what-the-heck they're doing. It's reallyl entertaining, I promise. You can eat Korean food. Hard boiled eggs are nice. You can chat and hang out with your friends. Or listen and learn. You can sleep. You can go into the charcoal room, or the red/yello mud room. These things detoxify your body. You might not feel it right away, but when you leave, there will be a difference. SO what have you got to lose but an afternoon of relaxing and experiencing a bit of something you've never done before. A snippet of something different. :D Just DO it! I have been many times to this facility and will never set foot in the place again. It's unfortunate that one cannot give minus stars. The place is in disrepair and far less than clean. The men's side is more of a gay cruising area and definitely not suited for families. The last few times I have gone I have had to come home and do a treatment for crabs!! I would highly recommend anyone going to this place to make sure you have a stock of kwellada lotion at home to give yourself a treatment. read more

I've always wanted to try an onsen. I have stress galore, and pain. I'm not a spa massage kind of person but, I've always enjoyed a good soak in a hot tub. That's how I heard about a Jimjibang on Coquitlam. Basically this is how it works for $15 you go in to be given a towel, a change of clothes and really no instructions. Basically, you get a locker so you can get changed aka, get butt naked and then you go off to the showers. You shower each time before you enter an area, dry off with your towel, and for the earth, and charcoal rooms it's co-ed so put your shorts, and t-shirts on that you are given still taking a shower before hand. There is a dry and wet sauna, hot tub, and several amazing rooms. The rooms are what makes the $15 worth it , if I wanted to go use a hot tub or sauna I could just go to the local pool. There is a salt room, yellow earth room, and charcoal room. My favorites were definitely the salt and yellow earth room I just felt all my pain melt away. Several hours here is definitely worth it. Be careful of the showers, they are super slippery and I fell horribly luckily I was in the best place to make my pain go away. Too bad this place is in the middle of NOWHERE. Definitely a good place for university students, and people with high stress jobs to eliminate some stress though I would have given this place a higher star rating but, the man at the front desk was pretty rude when I came in. read more

I visited the JJ Spa on a Saturday afternoon. Born in Korea and having made trips back every summer, I am quite familiar with what a Korean spa would look like. However, my friend and I were quite disappointed with the place and have no immediate plans to return anytime soon. The showering rooms were quite dirty and there were water/shampoo grime on the floor tiles. The cold tub was not filled with water (it is a must for any Korean spa to have it) and the hot tub was not hot. About the amenities, which distinguishes the Korean style spas, they were minimal at best. The cafeteria was closed, and there was a TV playing low-quality Korean drama. The specialty rooms were only accessible after paying a ridiculous $50 for body scrubs. We decided to leave after half an hour of incessant FBing because we were too bored. As we were leaving, we were taking showers and the towels were too small to efficiently absorb all the water. Having driven here from downtown Vancouver, the experience was disdainful and I would not recommend anyone to visit. read more

Oh my, Such a fun, quirky experience. I'd be a regular here if I was closer. As it is, I'd like to make a regular sojourn here. It's such a good reminder of good, simple, elemental self-treatment that we lack in N. America. Quirkiness comes in with the choice of menu; if I owned this place it would be all juice bars and organic raw food. As it is, we get fun Asian "kid-food" like matcha ice cream. A bit strange for my palate but par-for-course in this place. I'd recommend a re-marketing of the signage, as they have a FANTASTIC product here. But I'd be afraid it would lose some of its charming trans-cultural quirkiness. A very fun, healthy experience for the open-minded Canadian who wants something different! read more

Having lived in Korea for awhile I am a HUGE fan of Korean spas, or 'jimjibangs'. When venturing to the city of Seoul for the weekend, these serve as the ultimate hostel, spa, pajama party, games room, karaoke lounge and restaurant all rolled into one. I miss these fun little havens of relaxation, so naturally I was overjoyed to discover that we have one in Coquitlam! As can be expected, it's not as busy as one in Korea, so they don't have the programs that would traditionally be at a spa (not open 24 hrs, no karaoke, restaurant or games) but they do have the hot and cold pools, various steam and sauna rooms, heated floors and a co-ed place to chillax in, in matching garments (so funny). I came for my friend Wes' birthday, and our big group had such a great time. If a Korean spa opened up downtown Van, I'd be there ALL the time, but for now, Coquiltlam is where I'll go to get my relaxing on. Some people go in the nude (not in the co-ed parts), but there's no need to feel awkward either suit you wear--bathing or birthday! read more

Came here for the first time. It was what I expected it to be. If you have not been to a Korean type spa to get your layer of dead skin off then you are missing out. You have the option of using the spa facilities or doing a full body scrub. You will have to make appointment if you are wanting to get a full scrub. Keep in mind that those that do come here are full blown ass naked so if you see women walking around and you feel uncomfortable then maybe it's not a place for you. Or, if you want to try it out and wear your swim suit your welcome to do that too. Personally I don't mind walking around naked, I mean everyone in there has the same private parts like me right. Anywho. You'll arrive pay your admission then the receptionist hooks you up with two towels and an outfit to wear after if you decide on wanting to use the other relaxation rooms. Do keep in mind to bring your own soap for body and shampoo and conditioner if you have preference. A body scrub is $90 additional services like shampoo is $5 and gold massage is $20. You are expected to arrive 30 mins prior to appointment so that you can prep yourself and shower and use the hot tub and cold tub. It helps softens the dead skin. I also like to relax in the steam room and sauna. Your tech will find you once your appointment is up. She will ask you to lay on a bed that is wrapped with industrial plastic and rinse you off with hot water. She then soaps you and rinses your body an starts the scrubbing. You can literally see all your dead skin coming off! It does make you wonder how much of a good job you do when you shower yourself. Once that's done they shampoo your hair and apply fresh cucumber mask on your face. Once the whole session is done you shower and chill in the salt room and relax. I will def go again! Give it a try! Wanted to try something dfferent today, and this place really exceeded expectations - in a good way! I read the reviews and thought I'd give it a shot. It was definitely different. They give you an outfit to wear inside the spa. It's definitely NOT your usual western style spa. What people forget is that this is an Asian(Korean to be specific) spa, and a lot of the time, Asians do not put the same weight for decencies that Westerners may think as normal (like the waterfall noises, soft quiet sounds, esthetics, sensuality, etc). If you want big fluffy robes and someone guiding you to a table and sensually rubbing your knots down, this is NOT your spa. They have several rooms with salt, charcoal and infrared. They also have a steamroom and sauna. You can just lie there as long as you like and basically meditate. The charcoal and infrared room are co-ed, but the steamroom/sauna/salt room is separated by gender. The salt, charcoal and infrared room you have to be dressed (in the outfit they provided) but sauna/steam they prefer you to be naked. You can bring a swim suit to use if you like in those rooms, but be prepared to be around people who are comfortable being naked. There is also a hot tub, and shared showers, etc. I tried the oil massage and cucumber mask (extra charge). Let me tell you, this is definitely NOT your typical spa experience. For me, at least, it was super enjoyable, albeit a little awkward because it was my first time. I had to get naked and was rubbed down with oil (definitely not in a sexual way, not even in a sensual way). I got the feeling like I was just a piece of steak being marinated. But the masseuse was definitely just concentrated on working on your sore muscles. If there are areas you do not want to be touched, you must tell them. For 15 dollars, you can stay in the 5 rooms as long as you like. Any other service will be extra charge. It's not super expensive but the extra servicse are definitely something I'd treat myself to only once in a while. They also have a full range of Asian treats, like noodles and drinks and ice cream, if your heart (or stomach) so desires. I would give it a 5 overall, but decided on a 4 because the extra services is a little overpriced for what you get. read more

I have been a regular at this place for years. The price is unbelievably cheap and the service is great. I looooove walking out of the salt room and eating those mystery ice creams that taste funny. LOOOOOL I know it's weird but it's such a delightful experience as you watch Korean Soap Operas while sitting on the floor. My favorite part is the full body scrub. They charge extra for it but it's such an exhilirating experience. I was stunned to hear about a Korean spa in Port Coquitlam that sets you back a mere $15, being that a simple mani-pedi costs 4 times the amount. JJ Family Spa is a traditional Korean spa that claims to be "the first-ever of its kind in Canada." The spa consists of five different rooms, each offering different health benefits and mineral structures. The first section is segregated (and nudity is mandatory). There you can indulge in the hot tub/cold tub room, as well as the steam and dry saunas. The best part is the Salt Room - a small haven where you lay in a heated room over salt minerals reminiscent of a sandy beach. Aside from offering the ultimate relaxation, the minerals can apparently help cure "women's diseases" and release hormones. The second area is co-ed and cover-ups are provided. You can literally fall asleep in the Charcoal room (boasting to help prevent hangovers) while the Yellow Earth room is great for eliminating toxins, releasing stress, and restoring your skin. Or you can simply chill in the lounge drinking tea and watch Korean soap operas. I checked it out earlier this year and try to go back at least once a month. It's not the most luxurious looking place but it sure feels like it when you're done. If I see you there hopefully we can overcome the awkward nude conversation in the ladies section. :) read more
