I absolutely loved my experience at the hammam! The space was tranquil and all of the staff were pros. If you haven't been before, I know you're reading the reviews to see what actually happens there. You're greeted in a very quiet and tranquil lobby. You trade your shoes for slippers and are taken to the locker room where you're probably the only guest. There you're given a sarong and if you want it a ridiculous disposable thong to change into. Then you're taken to the private steam room and given water. After 15 mins you step out of the steam room and lay down naked on a marble table where you're scrubbed head to toe, armpit to butt cheek by the attendant. My skin has never been so soft. Next you trade the sarong for a robe and are taken to a massage room. The massage was completely relaxing. The spa trip ends with tea and a cookie while lounging on pillows. Slip on the plastic slippers and the lady will take u to change room where she will go over a kind of orientation about the steam room. 3. Once changed into ur robes , u will be given water bottles and taken to steam room which has another small room with high temperature. U can stay here for almost 10 mins 4. Your therapist (they use for their masseurs) will call u to scrub u. U lie down facing down on a flat bed or shelf of marbel with your robe spread as a sheet and yourself all naked with an exception of ur disposable panty 5. You are given quick shower and asked to do it yourself if u want more water to rinse yourself. N then u r left in steam room for a while. 6. After some time u can dry yourself and they will lead you to your massage room if you have opted for one. Else your hamam gamam experience is over here. Just after steam the feeling of relaxation overcomes you but massage is just the cherry on top. The ladies are sweet and amazing in what they do. Today is a spa day, my friend, treat yourself because you're beautiful and you deserve it. Some of the best pampering in the city. Come here if you don't have enough time to get a flight in a time machine back to the Umayyad period (7th-8th century) in Qusayr 'Amra in Jordan, where some of the first hammams popped up back during the golden age of pampering. Although not having enough time wouldn't really be a problem if you had a time machine would it? Notwithstanding these interesting stoner questions ... get thee to this spa. So, to begin you'll be greeted at the door and shown to the locker rooms where you'll disrobe and take a quick shower to wash off all the dirt, sebum, smegma, etc. You're provided with a spacious, warm and very comfortable spa robe. You are taken to the eucalyptus steam room to cook and open all of your little pores. After about 20 minutes you're well done and an attendant receives you on a marble slab where you are comfortably and hypnotically beaten with cedar and birch switches within an inch of blissful slumber. You are then scrubbed with a black cedar salt and hosed down. Now you're ready for your 90 minute deep tissue massage. The excellent massotherapists here skillyfully trained and professionally certified. Since visiting Miraj Hammam Spa yesterday I've been floating on a cloud. This was a Mother's Day treat for me from my daughter, who accompanied me and also enjoyed this magical experience. From the moment you enter this oasis of tranquility, you are treated with gentle care and consideration. Plus, you are, for the most part, the only guests in the place during your appointment time. This privacy factor is unique and very much appreciated. There's no one else wandering in and out while you are there and no need to worry about lack of privacy or "being seen" by anyone. In the changing room where you get the use of a keyed locker to safely store your clothing, etc. Sarongs, robes and slippers are provided. First stop is the wonderful steam room the Hammam, scented with eucalyptus, lemon and orange. You can feel free to strip off, if you like, as you have the steam room to yourself (and your campanion, if you have one). Sit or lie down on the marble benches and let that gorgeous steam do its work. It's dimly lit, relaxing, calming and you don't have to listen to other people's random chatter (like in most other steam rooms/saunas). In the busy city, such privacy is a luxury to be savoured. After 10 or 15 minutes in the steam, next stop is the detoxifying scrub. Just outside the steam room you lie on another marble table in the dimly lit, calm space while your body is invigorated with Moroccan black olive soap by an attendant wearing scrub gloves. It feels wonderful! Back into the steam room for me while my daughter had her scrub, then we were shown into individual massage rooms. And I can honestly say, for the next full hour I received what was probably the best, most professional, thorough and attentive massage in my life. Thank you, Eva, for your expert care. After I peeled myself off the massage bed, where I could easily have fallen asleep, I thought it was time to get dressed and back into the real world. But not so fast! As I left the room (wearing the supplied robe) I met my smiling daughter coming from her massage. We were led into the lounge, with its luxurious velvet banquettes and many pillows. Here we were invited to relax (velvet blankets were supplied) and enjoy little cakes and mint tea in gold-trimmed glasses on copper trays. Again, this space is private with no other guests present. We just sat there blissfully grinning, relaxed, marvelling at the wonderful experience we were having. My daughter had also thoroughly enjoyed her wonderful massage by Sarah, and we agreed the whole experience was 10/10 on all points. I booked Miraj Spa for two of us to celebrate my wife's birthday but my experience was extremely bad. My appointment was at 3 PM and we got stuck in Vancouver traffic for more that 40 mins. Therefore despite starting early we started missing the schedule. I had been keeping calling them since I was at Lions Gate bridge and informing traffic situation; and they suggested that they can still keep my appointment so I continued driving but at a point where we were 30+ mins late, we requested for a reschedule which the receptionist agreed. All on a sudden the manager called and rudely started asking for full payment for the appointment missed. She said "I had been running around to cancel other appointments to fit your schedule in" which I could not understand why and she did not explain. She even said that she "won't pay my employees if you don't pay in full" ; we requested for a negotiation and was ready to pay for 50% and another booking but she did not agree. She was very rude, inconsiderate, yelling and made my wife very upset on her special day even after knowing it was her birthday. She finally agreed to give 20% off but in reality just gave 15% as showed up in my card statement. I felt pathetic considering I booked the service for around $300+ and they took us for a ride and tried to take as much money possible with this excuse of delay. I will never use any services from Miraj and neither I would advice any of my friends to use their service. read more

This was such a nice experience! Very unique and relaxing. I called to book and asked the receptionist lots of questions, she was very helpful explaining the different treatment options and confirming prices. I had the hammam/gommage, the orientale massage (15 minutes), and a 45 minute facial. I loved everything! Massage was a relaxation massage but felt great. Loved the facial, it honestly couldn't have been better. Also included foot, hand, and scalp massages. And to finish, you go into the lounge and have tea and a little cake. The only reason I'm taking off a star is I think for the price, the hammam/gommage portion should be longer. (My steam was probably less than 10 minutes and the gommage was about the same.) It would also be nice to get a slightly larger portion of tea, so you can spend longer lounging! But - overall a great treat for a special occasion! read more

Well..I feel sorry to have to be the downer in reviews on this place. It is a beautiful facility, and the best part for me was the aesthetics; felt like being in the baths in ancient Rome, the steam area was beautiful marble and arched doorways and ceilings. The 'gommage' was just okay.( I have to admit I have been ruined for scrubs by being a regular user of Korean spas ) , and the technique used here was very light scrubbing, really just washing basically, and took about 10 minutes. The one hour massage I had after was decent, but not up to the standard I usually have experienced in Canada, where massage therapists have much more extensive training than in the states. The tea and cookie, taken in the cushioned back room authentic in middle eastern atmosphere, was pleasant. But the price, over $200 for a steam, quick 'washing' and massage..just seemed a bit ridiculous. But I am really glad I tried it. I treated myself to a massage and "hammam" experience as a celebration to myself. I'd always wanted to try Miraj, and I was disappointed. The decor is nice and the place was clean. It wasn't very busy on a Saturday afternoon. I was escorted to the change rooms and given a key-bracelet and told to shower down and wrap myself in a cotton wrap. I was then escorted into the "hammam" which was pretty, but I couldn't do as I liked -- I had to sit in a little glassed-in room for my allotted 15 minutes of steam. The little room was the only area in the hammam where there was steam and the walls and the bench were cold to touch -- but the steam was clean and scented, so it was somewhat nice. But 15 minutes wasn't near long enough to get myself in a relaxed state -- and I was seated right beside the steam nozzle so it was a little suffocating. After my quick steam, I was escorted to the gommage table, and I was scrubbed on my back, my arms and legs for exactly 15 minutes -- but I think the girl got ahead of herself and ended up scrubbing the last foot for about 5 minutes. I had one very clean foot! I was then promptly escorted back into the change room to shower off and wait for my massage therapist to come and get me. While I was in the change room, two of the girls were talking quite loudly for the entire time I was there -- glancing at me a couple of times -- and standing really closed me as I was showering and washing my face, as if I wasn't there. And then one of the girls ducked into the supply cupboard to make phone calls on her cell phone. I don't know about anyone else, but this annoyed me because I'm there, paying big bucks to get myself to a relaxed state and this rushing and minimizing and then lack of courtesy for patrons in the change room really wasn't cool. After my shower, the massage was heavenly. The massage therapist (at least) understood what sort of vibe is required to relax and she kneaded me into submission. Ahhh. So good. Afterward, I relaxed on their pillow room, a very pretty room especially at noon when the sun was streaming through the prettily decorated window. That was really nice too. In summary, I would never go there again. I still dream of the Standard Hammam in South Beach Miami, and of the Russian Bath House in NYC -- where you can go, lounge, steam, sweat and relax for much less money that at Miraj. I can get good massages anywhere in the city -- for less than $160 bucks (Linda's has good therapists for $55/hr), and I will wait until Vancouver gets with it and opens a hammam where one can come in, sit around in the steam and bathe in hot water for as long as one likes for a flat fee of $30-40, and get someone to give a gommage for $30 add on fee, or a massage for another $45. In terms of spa bang for your buck, I haven't found a place that matches Miraj Hammam. When I am dropping money for a spa treatment, I want it to be more than a 60 minute experience. I want to come out feeling refreshed and like I've really relaxed. The majority of spas in town, which offer a la carte treatments or whose full packages are just way out of any normal people's price range, just can't deliver. Miraj Hammam IS an experience, and you do leave feeling like you've just spent a day away. Warning: if you're not into nudity or having attends touch you (and really why are you going to a spa then?), this isn't the place for you. You start your experience here by stripping down (you can wear a bathing suit if you want, and for my first trip here I brought bikini bottoms but quickly discarded them), wearing a sarong, and being led into the Hammam, which is a steamy tiled room, dimly lit. You're alone, unless you're with a friend, and you're given some cold water in a steel jug, which you will GLUG as the steam intensifies and you start detoxing. It's very relaxing to sit and steam, and listen to the water dripping. Some might find the heat claustrophobic, but having been in a sweat lodge, this was nothing for me. After your steam, the attendant leads you to a marble slab in a cooler part of the Hammam. You hop up there, naked, and the attendant (who is also just in a sarong) lathers you up with an exfoliating soap that has a nice minty smell. You're scrubbed from head to toe, front and back (see what I mean about being OK with touching?), and then hosed down with cold water, and it feels amazing. Within minutes you're basically so relaxed you're incoherent. On my last visit the attendant joked to me that most people become "like babies" during their treatment. Post-scrub, you're given a robe, and then you're exiting the Hammam for a massage - the length of which varies, depending on what package you buy and how much you're prepared to spend (minimum massage time is 15 minutes). This is the relaxation icing on the cake, and by this time I'm normally drooling I'm so relaxed (yeah, I said it). Massage complete, you are led, still in your robe, to a room full of velvet pillows with magazines strewn about. You're fed delicious cake and the BEST (BEST BEST BEST) sweet mint tea - tea that I literally dream about after I've visited. You can stay and loll around on the cushions for as long as you wish before your visit is over. Yeah. It's the best. The place is clean, the staff are generally very quiet and relaxing in their demeanor, and I always leave feeling like I've had an Experience. One of my favourite treats for myself, and one of my favourite places in Vancouver. read more

My experience at Miraj in a nutshell: - my appointment started 20 minutes late (not a big fan of that) - the hammam & gomage was interesting but seemed to be lacking something - not sure what - the 15 minute beauty massage was amazing and the oil used was very nice - the 45 minute facial was really nice but the aesthetician had either bad breath or bad B.O. which was not so pleasant - the tea and biscuit at the end were absolutely delicious - when I booked, I was quoted $188 but when it was time to pay I was charged $193 + tax + tip (which was optional of course), I mentioned this to the receptionist but she said that it must be wrong on the website (not a big fan of that) This spa offers a cool experience overall but could use some brushing up in the customer service area in order to be truly amazing... read more

4.5 for sure. Boyfriend and I came here as part of our anniversary weekend (because we are lushes, yes). We booked for Sunday because Sunday is couples day! The space is beautiful inside, very well put together. We waited for a few minutes in the front area before being guided into the change room and instructed to put on the sarongs there. Our soft spoken guide took us into the steam room, provided us with a jug of water and explained how it all works. I appreciated how relaxing the sound of running water was the whole time, and how she let us know how to make the inner steam room cooler if it was too much. I went first for the exfoliation and it was AWESOME! Seriously amazing. I felt thoroughly pampered and my skin was tingling and glowing afterwards. I went back into the steam room and boyfriend had his done, then we both went to get massages. This is the part that takes it down a bunch for me... I've been having RMT massages for a while now, and this sure wasn't one! At one point I asked for more pressure and she responded "MORE pressure??" My shoulder spasmed a bit afterwards so I'd recommend using it like a very gentle, soothing massage rather than anything to work tension out. After that we went and cuddled up in their relaxation area with the complimentary tea and cake! We spent a nice time there (barring a very cranky woman who was there with her friend after her husband bailed... Fair, but relax and keep it down a bit, can ya?!) then checked with the front desk if we could go change. During the time we were there we felt very happily isolated - when we went to change back into street clothes (boooo) there was another couple in the steam room, but it all felt so private and it was such a fun experience! The staff here are all amazing. From the owner Surinder, to the Gommage specialist and massage ladies - they all make you feel so welcome. I don't think I've ever felt so comfortable getting my kit off in front of strangers (not that I do that often!). It loses 1 star because I haven't actually had a chance to try their hammam & gommage treatment lol Unfortunately, the day I booked my treatment, the steam just wouldn't turn on. They apparently had to rebook their whole day. Thankfully, not only did they give me a complimentary voucher for a hammam & gommage treatment at a later date (which is booked for this Wednesday!), but I came in for my 15 minute massage and they upgraded me to the 30 minute, at no extra charge (which ended up being about $30 + tip). Decor: I cannot get over how stunningly gorgeous this place is. They definitely efficiently used the small space they have, to create this oasis of pleasure. The sound of water and soothing scents follow you everywhere. It's peacefully quiet (save the unfortunately noise from the street). Service: From the sweetly apologetic receptionist, to the friendly masseuse, my experience was completely stress-free. I'm generally a high-strung person, who gets nervous in new situations and I was vaguely nervous about the experience, as it's a little more exotic then your run of the mill spa treatment. Thankfully, the website is helpful to prepare you, and the staff is more than kind, letting you know where everything is and exactly what they need from you. The changing rooms are lovely and clean, and they provide you locked lockers for your belongings. Once upon a time, I decided to take the day off from watching NFL football on a Sunday to enjoy a "couples package" at this middle-eastern themed spa. The spa provides a very nice ambiance - in many ways, it's like being immersed in a proverbial "Arabian Nights fairy tale." "I'll be Aladdin, you can be Jasmine ... " (sung to the tune, "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off.") This particular package features a great 15-minute steam (Hammam), followed by an exfolication/scrub (gommage). The steam includes herbs, the scrub is provided with a mixture of black Moroccan soap and olive and eucalyptus oils. Be forewarned, you are completely nude for the procedure. It caught me a bit off guard, at first. Myself and the Divine Ms. K. did have the entire steam/exfoliation room to ourselves (I think they must book it that way, one of the reasons it's probably so expensive), but at the time, it was a bit disconcerting for me to be completely naked, being scrubbed down by a female who was a complete stranger, but I just rolled with it. It seemed to be par for the course. That was followed by a wonderful 60-minute private full-body massage from an RMT named Samantha. Of course, all good massages include music, and even the music played was authentic, in terms of blending in with the Middle Eastern theme. We finished off in a private room that was essentially raised mattresses and pillows where we enjoyed Moroccan chai and some middle eastern sweet cakes. Very nice! I've been here twice now and I really like Miraj. It's nothing like the hammams in Turkey but it'll do. First of all the staff is accommodating and friendly. They made sure that we had a good experience and we were happy. The spa is beautiful and when you're there you feel like you're in a land far way. The steam is fantastic and they make sure you have plenty of water while you're in there. After your steam you lay on the stone bed and they wash and scrub you down. You can literally feel like your skin breath. It feels amazing! After our steam and gommage we had our massages which we were disappointed with. They need to get better masseuses for the price that they charge. I mean you go in there you have this fantastic experience in the steam bath then you go for your massage to get the complete experience and it's a let down because the person massaging you just isn't that great. After our massages we moved to this beautifully decorated area with large beds and pillows where we could relax. Someone brought us tea and sweets which I thought was a great touch. It's a good place and there's nothing else like this in Vancouver but for what they charge they need to take it up a notch and really make you feel like you've stepped into an oasis of relaxation. read more

My sister suggested this place to me. It is my first time to any type of bath house. You walk in to a completely comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. The staff is friendly and it smells good inside. I was taken back to the shower area to rinse off then you are taken into a steam room for about 20-30 minutes. The steam is so thick you can't see anything in front of you. The aromas in the steam room are very relaxing. After the steam session you lay on the cold stone and the lady washes and scrubs you down. Good exfoliation after the steam room! After your bath you are taken to a different area for a massage(optional). When the massage is over they don't kick you out and send you on your way they take you back to lounge area where you can relax as long as you need to. I love the Hammam & Gommage. A friend bought me a gift certificate years ago and I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had 30 minutes alone in a lovely steam room which had a meditative effect on my mind. Then I got scrubbed down and experienced the best exfoliating treatment my body has ever had. The little bumps on my legs were gone! I was then treated to a lovely massage which melted me like butter. Finally, I was brought to a delightful little room and given the sweetest tasty treat. I've gone back several times because I love it so much. My skin feels so soft after, I feel like I have a younger body. It's really a magical experience. For about 1.5 hours (or longer if you choose to) that you are in this place, you'll be totally immersed in an exotic atmosphere. The treatment starts in a spacious steam room. l spent 10-15 minutes in high intensity steam bath. It was very steamy, I couldn't see anything which helped me to relax. Somehow it was not uncomfortably hot like some other steam bath I have been in. Then I was cleansed with warm eucalyptus oil followed by a full body scrub. The treatment was done in a separate area within a steam bath, so it was very warm and comfortable. I also added 1/2 hour massage after that, which further helped me to relax. (They offer other options.) After I was done with all the treatment, I was escorted to a lounge area where I could stay and relax. They served me a little pastry and sweet herb tea. Only thing disappointing was that this lounge area was facing to the street side of the building, so you hear cars driving by and people talking. Maybe it was intentional to help my mind to come back to reality that I completely forgot about for last 1.5 hours. The other thing I really liked about this place was that I was constantly hearing a sound of running water. I love listening to a sound of water, it is very relaxing to me. If you like the exotic aroma you smell when you step into this spa, you will like how you smell when you step out of this place. You will go home with a clean&soft skin that smells exotic. read more

This places was pretty hard to book especially after working hours. I waited a few weeks before I could get an appointment. You also need to give them the exact dates you wanted (where I just told them weekdays after work). My first time going to Indian spa so I was so excited. Hammam (Jerusalem Gold Marble Steam Room) 4.5/5 - the steam was hotter than most of the places. The jar of water saved me from dying. It was hot enough to a point where I wanted to leave but then the light came off. I wish there were towels around. Gommage (Black Moroccan Soap Body Exfoliation) 3.5/5 - The lady rubbed pretty hard. Not sure coz I had some sunburnt last week. 30 Minute Massage 3/5 - She didn't use a lot of their own oils too. That could have been smoother. She asked me which oil I wanted but then the names didn't tell me anything. It would be better if I could smell them. They are also selling those massage oils). It was a lot of pushing and rubbing around. I wish they gave me the choice of having just the back massage. Sultana Lounge - enjoying a chai and mint tea with a piece of cake. The tea was too sweet for me. There were some magazines for there to read. I could be sitting there for the whole afternoon. I'm glad that I tried. It was okay with a $99 voucher but I would not pay full price $181 for that. read more

Not anywhere worth the money. The Hammam was uninspiring. I do a better job when I scrub myself in the shower. I had to stand up naked in front of strangers and was hosed down with a shower head instead of being rinsed off while laying down. As a double mastectomy breast cancer survivor, I found this embarrassing. read more

I have been to the hammam 4 times now and every time the staff are always really friendly and accommodating. I really enjoyed the steam and scrub, but the massage has been a hit or miss, depending on the therapist. One thing that I thought really stood out though, was the lounge after your treatment. Since they don't book multiple parties, you're almost guaranteed a private lounge room after. Their tea and treat afterwards is delicious and greatly appreciated! No handful of nuts here! A delicious spa experience. After the hammam and gommage, which is effectively a steam followed by the most amazing exfoliation your body will ever be treated to, you will never feel softer or cleaner! I would recommend following this up with a massage treatment of 30 minutes or more... 15 just isn't enough. The oils used as part of the massage are gorgeous and after a hammam and gommage treatment are soaked right in by your skin. Than lastly sweet tea (and cookie but I can't eat those, although am told their delicious) in their beautiful lounge. I like to stay and read for about half an hour or so to really let the oils set in from the massage. read more

My boyfriend and I received a gift certificate for Christmas for two steams, scrubs, and massages that we finally got to use this past Sunday, and let me tell you, it was definitely worth the wait! Everything was on point from start to finish. The steam and scrub was probably my favourite part, and I was super soft and relaxed when we came out. My massage was wonderful as well. Usually I have s hard time relaxing during a massage as I find myself counting strokes and anticipating certain movements (hazard of my profession), but I darn near fell asleep at one point! I usually carry a ton of tension in my shoulders, but by the time we left I was totally relaxed and ready for a nap. We'll definitely be back! read more

The Hammam & Gommage treatment ($120) at Miraj Hammam is definitely an experience that everyone should enjoy at least once in their lifetime, even my boyfriend loved it and he's usually not into these traditional stuff. The spa is very intimate and small, it's not a huge day spa, the steam room are booked as a package (it's not for guest amenity, but rather part of a treatment). The staffs are very kind and will begin asking if this is your first time, if yes, they will guide you through the whole experience to the best they can, making sure you are comfortable, this is very different from all the other spas I've been to, so I appreciated the extra aid. The only Hammam spa in Vancouver, it does show some signs of age, but rest assure the experience will make that all forgivable. Kinda expensive for all the things included. I went to a ham man spa in France and tried the whole package, it costed $250. It included hair pack, hair treatment, facial, massage, steam room, hot tub, lemonade, tea and pastry, black soap scrub and bath. But this place, Miraj had the Gommam for a very short period and the massage was painful. The technique used was pin pointing pressure and it really hurt. Very relaxing and inviting. It seemed like it was well run and organized. The lady (Veronica I think) who did the gommage was very nice and made you feel completely comfortable even though you're naked. It's 15 mins in the steam and 15 minutes of exfoliation and then you're out. The steam room was great, you could hardly see through it. Just loved it. Had a massage afterwards and it was relaxing. The tea and sweets after were nice in the lounge, there's no way you could shoot back into the world right away anyways and not wander into traffic. Overall I really enjoyed it but it's so expensive that it will not likely become a regular indulgence. read more

The treatments at Miraj Hammam Spa are transformative. It's an exotic holiday without leaving the city. I've been there three times and feel as though I can fully give myself over to their care once I get into the spa itself. My own hesitation in giving it a full five stars is in arriving: the waiting room and the initial introduction, both the physical space and the human greeting, are a bit spare. Reminds me a bit of a very pretty, but not too comfortable, dentist's office. read more
