I'm not sure why people gave it a bad review. It's huge. It's clean. The several ladies were very nice. One helped me to ladies room. One asked if I needed help. I asked for kimonos and she pointed me in the right direction. I forgot to take pics, but I can't wait to clean out closet and bring in some items. When it came to check out there was a line it moved quickly. There is a program to earn points for coupons. Also if you check in on Yelp you can get one. I didn't realize that so I saved mine for later. Plus you need to spend 30 or 35.00 for the Yelp coupon. Still good deal. The check out went smooth and the person checking me out found me in the system to get those points. I highly recommend cleaning out closet and popping in to this location. read more

Worst customer service! This was not my first visit to C.M. but it will be my last. They had moved and when I called and said I couldn't find it the person on the phone was less than helpful! It took 1?1/2 hours for them to tell me 90 % of what I brought I'm was not in good condition or more than 2 years old The 18 year old taking care of my sell didn't know what she was talking about @ The jeans sectioned down were less than 2 years old and from Nordstrom. My boyfriend and I were going to the Plato's Closet next door and planned on visiting clothes mentor afterwards, we were pulling into a parking spot infront of the Plato's closet entrance and there was a Clothes Mentor employee standing in the parking spot with her arms crossed and shaking her head at us saying it was her spot... lol. She started to throw her hands up and talk to herself huffing and puffing, I guess she was saving the parking spot with her body? She then waited till we got out of the car to say "youre not good people" and walk back into work... we were going to shop in clothes mentor up until we had that ridiculous encounter. You can't save a parking spot with no car... and it's extremely unprofessional to throw a tantrum at work when WE ARE CUSTOMERS it's not like we tried running her over we stopped in confusion, didn't know if she was walking through the parking lot or frozen? Then she started throwing her hands up and huffing and puffing so we just pulled into the spot. She was light skin with light brown curly hair with two half up buns/ hairstyle. i tried reading her name tag but couldn't before she walked back inside, we then came out 10 minutes later and saw her helping an elderly couple inside... the switch up in personality was crazy. We are paying customers just as much as they are and deserve the same hospitality. Parking spots that aren't reserved are open to everyone and can't be saved with your body. read more

Very rude staff. I brought my gently used clothes here since I had never tried them. NEVER AGAIN. I was insulted with my brand of clothing and my style from Kaydence. My clothes were returned to me just thrown in a box and my plastic bin cracked with pieces falling out. When I asked nicely to have my clothes returned to my as I had presented at first I got ugly attitude and was ignored. So I took out all my clothes on their counter and folded them myself. I was looking for a place to sell my clothes and I was recommended to Clothes Mentor. I took about two bags of clothing and shoes. Most of the clothes was Banana Republic, H&M, and Loft. The only thing they decided to buy, for only $2, was a new pair of heels with tags. The shoes were brand new, I didn't get to use them because the heel was too high for me. I was so upset, I denied their offer. They gave me an ugly look, so it made me feel worst. I just hope who ever goes there has a better experience than I did. read more

I went in to the Central Park location in San Antonio. The ladies were nice but couldn't answer why they didn't take any clothes that still had their tags on them. I took 4 large bags in and all that was filled was a 1/2 of a laundry basket that they kept. There was sizes 12-16 all new Lee jeans and Dockers dress pants brand new with tags .They did take one blouse that was over 10 years old. I guess they only want jeans with holes cause that is all I have seen. Made a whopping 30 dollars and they returned the rest of the clothes. I could of had a garage sale and sold them for at least 5 dollars a piece. Won't be doing this again. I went to sell some jeans and pants that are too big for me now, when I came back to see what I was getting I was treated like I was less than, rudely and made to feel embarrassed. This was by the Sales Manager. I was made to feel like not only where my clothes not good enough, but that I wasn't either. I would give ZERO Stars if I could. This is extremely poor customer service. I understand if my clothes are too old, but tell people that when they walk in to try and sell, not wait until they come back and then treat them like that. read more

Visited the North Star location, 3 different occasions, each time the staff seemed put out by not just me, but every customer in the store. After waiting patiently at the counter, while the cashiers talked about another employee they apparently hated, I got the opportunity to ask a question about some shoes, the cashier, I swear rolled her eyes, looked at the other cashier and replied, " We only have what we have". I asked if the shoes were put in any particular size order. Seems, they not only hate the other employee they were trashing talking about, but everyone one as well. So I came here after a TERRIBLE experience at Platos nearby. So miffed by Platos! Was told I could sell my clothes no hassle and in an organized fashion. They have a great selection of clothing and it's not in a state of disarray like the location that will not be named (yes Voldemort status). HOWEVER it only takes one person to ruin an experience. Jacinda super nice BUT Veronica told me that my clothes were "too young" (I'm 33 btw) and "boot cut" isn't in season. ALL of these clothes were from Express and well made suits. Not even the blazers would be taken. Very disheartening after waiting 20 mins and having drive through traffic. Veronica cut me off twice while talking assuming Platos wouldn't take my clothes. I informed her Platos wasn't taking anymore buys that day. THEN I get a litany of excuses why it took 20 minutes to look at clothes that did not "standards". Was told I had 4 people in front of me, and those people had tons of bags. LIES! One person and one bag. It wasn't that they wouldn't buy...it was my time wasted that made me upset. They have nice clothes, I typically don't buy from people who are rude. But picked up two skirts and some jeans. I'd like to start by saying that most of my wardrobe has come from Clothes Mentor, mostly this location but also the now closed Blanco/1604 store. I love a good deal and quality garments. However, more and more I'm frustrated for two reasons: 1. They are buying faded or torn clothes, missing buttons, seams open, etc. I don't think any of us want that, but even more frustrating is when you get it home and see the damage, ugh. 2. The clothes are arranged a little weird. Ok thanks for separating the sleeveless from the sleeves blouses. But, don't you know what Plus size Women's clothing are? They are always mixed up in the wrong size. W means Women's size verses sizes that are Miss or Jr's. How about create a Plus size section like department stores? Or just sort them properly. read more

I love finding a gem in some of these Clothesmentor stores, but I haven't had any luck at this location. Even though this is a large store, I find the plus size section lacking and the racks are not organized very well. I prefer the location in Schertz. Also, the staff are not very friendly and the quality of the clothes is pretty basic. I have seen better merchandise at other locations. If you are up for browsing through aisles of clothing, you might come across a gem, but overall there are stores that are more organized and have better customer service. read more

I was super hesitant about selling clothes here because, 1) I've never done it before, and 2) all of the clothing resale stores in San Antonio really seem to have low ratings! But I guess it's hit or miss. Here was my experience. I went in during the work week (Thursday) at 3PM during my lunch. It wasn't terribly busy, but there did appear to be a bunch of bins they needed to go through. So they had me queue in, leave my bin there, and by the time I came back at 5:20PM after work, they had just finished reviewing my items. Unless you catch them right at opening, I recommend on planning to drop off your stuff and come back later. The associate I spoke to was very nice and patient with explaining things to me. There were a few reviews out there that mentioned that the associates here are snobby. However, I could overhear most of the associates conversation and if anything, I found them to be almost OVERLY polite. But hey, I'd much prefer that! Here's the few things the associate had to say tip wise: -They accept all types of clothing year round, BUT they are more likely to accept that seasons items then. (ie. bring spring/summer items during spring/summer, and winter items in the winter) -They accept jeans. Year round. Period. -For designer items, they will pay you 50% of whatever they plan to resale the item for -For normal items, they MAY pay you anywhere from 30-70% of whatever they plan to resale for Here's some tips I picked up: -They don't seem to take a lot of the young branded items (ie. Forever 21, Rue 21, etc). Even in great condition. I noticed they took a lot of my Target, JcPenney and Cato items. Walking around the store, I also noticed this as well. -If you have A LOT of shit (like me) to sell, bring it in smaller hauls. I plan on taking the stuff they didn't take to a different location or even try Plato's. But this way, you can be sure your item won't sell there. And if you're desperate to make the money still, try selling online. Otherwise the donation station it is! The store itself was really well organized, had a huge selection for most sizes and really decently priced! (I found a work skirt for $4 that I held off on). However, I was a tad disappointed it two things. 1) the type of clothing they had. Yes, there was a lot of inventory to look through, but none of it was something I would consider buying for work (besides the one skirt). 2) I was a tad disappointed in my exchange. I sold a pair of wedges (worn once), 2 work shirts and a dress to them for a total of $14. I guess when you do the math... it makes sense, but was still a bit disappointing. read more

Huge selection of previously owned clothing. More for the adult woman shopper. They don't have junior/teen clothing like Plato's closet. Usually I avoid preowned clothing stores because the clothes usually look like they're not washed and those places are usually extremely cluttered. Not this place! Everything was neatly organized, clothes looked like they were ironed and cleaned prior to display and it smells clean in there. I was pleasantly surprised. Some of their clothes still had the original tag on them too. Great place to buy some work clothes. I bought a really nice pair of The Limited slacks here for $12 and they look brand new! And their staff here is awesome! I don't remember the ladies name, she had blonde hair, but she was great! Do NOT waste your time/energy bringing your clothes here to sell - unless you want to essentially give them away to this business. They offered me $40 for several new designer suit separates- the pieces ranged from $159 to $189 each, and some still had tags. I had not been here before so I was shocked and asked what their buy price range was based on. She said it was 20-25% of retail price. I pulled out one Talbots NWT ($189) - that one piece alone at 20% was close to $40. It made no sense. I took my clothes and walked out. I could use the $ to recoup some of the value, but that's just exploitative. I'd rather donate at that rate. read more

I have shopped/sold here a few times. While I am pleased they are a store with discount maternity clothes, I find their customer service and selection to be less than desirable. Their pricing doesn't make sense - they have Target brand dresses for $20 which doesn't seem to be much less than what it would cost new at Target. I sold them a BCBG dress and was not given enough in trade to even purchase an $8 Gap tank top. Their staff don't smile, don't greet you and don't make effort to provide a pleasant shopping experience. Also, buying strategy is inconsistent and inconvenient. Plus, they don't have a donate option for items they don't take and that you don't want back. Why they wouldn't have a partnership in place with an organization that could benefit from free donations is disappointing. read more

Biggest waste of my life!! Brought a whole tub of designer pants, slacks, sweaters, and shirts....some with tags still on!! I waited an hour for them to tell me "I'm sorry, but we are going to have to pass on everything." Speaking to the manager did not help either...when I stated that there were clothes similar to mine but in worse shape in the store they said "and those items are not selling which is why we don't need more." Ever think that it's not selling because it's junk!? I'm mainly upset and referring to a brand new Nike golf polo I received for Christmas, but was the wrong size...still had the tags on it...you can't tell me it's not good enough! Never again will I waste my time here...I suggest you go somewhere else before you waste your time here, only to leave very frustrated!!! I go to Clothes Mentor at least three times a month to peruse the inventory or whenever I need a last-minute outfit for an event. The staff is incredibly friendly and it's always well air-conditioned (a plus when you're digging around diligently). Clothing is organized by size, style and color, making it easy to find exactly what you need (or want, more than likely!) As a shopper, I LOVE finding great deals on designer clothing I definitely can't afford normally on my nonprofit salary. I've walked away from CM with a never-worn, tags-attached, silk Prabal Gurung for J. Crew dress retailing at $395 for only $16. I have a closet full of Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Lily Pulitzer, Kate Spade and other various high-end designer shirts, skirts, jackets and dresses purchased there for $6-$21 each. It's a great place to practice environmentally conscious shopping and put a few years' use into an item whose previous owner didn't fully appreciate it. As a seller, I have never made more than $20 at one time. I'm sad that the local Buffalo Exchange no longer buys clothing...I used to make $100+ every few months! Clothes Mentor, however, has a particular style and size range that they will accept. It's a bummer for those of us looking to make a little extra money, but as a consumer I appreciate the fact that they're picky about what they'll purchase. I think of Clothes Mentor as Plato's Closet for the working woman. Clothes were affordable and in great shape. There is a small section in the store with authentic designer bags (mostly Dooney and Bourke and Coach). I bought a Ann Taylor chunky sweater for 10 dollars and a blue Max Azria shirt for 8. I presume that they do not offer much when you sell clothing and are picky but I don't have personal experience selling to Clothes Mentor. I enjoy my shopping experience since the clothes are current, clean, in good shape and adequately priced. read more

I have personally been to several Clothes Mentors through out the US. I have even worked at one, twice. I love the whole concept of "ReSale, ReUse, ReCycle. I have been buying 2nd hand for years, way before it was considered chic. I was very excited to visit the Clothes Mentor here in San Antonio, TX. But, sadly was very disappointed. Let me list a few things that need to be considered for the next "customer" that walk into your store to "Buy" and or "Sale". Please Greet them when they walk in, please ask them if there is anything you can help them with, do not assume they have been in your store before. Please come take the load of Clothes that they have in their hands and offer to get a dressing room started for them. Please come out from the registers. Your customers in the store should be more important then any "Buy" that they are going through. Out of 3 employees one should walk the floor and check on customers. Please straighten the racks for the next customer to enjoy going through. Please love your jobs enough to dress the part. You are the stores billboard of how to dress, hence the name "Clothes" MENTOR!!! I noticed your top shelf did not have a row of your "Designer Handbags"- I even asked "Why the bags are not on the top row, the employee nodded with her head the direction that they were located. And said "the bags have never been in the top shelf since I have worked here". If I remember correctly, CM Corporate States that one self behind the registers should be filled with "Designer" items. I have purchased several items from standing at the registers while checking out and at the last minute adding another item, sometimes buying a item $100.00 plus, more to my purchase. First time "selling" here. I took a bin and a medium size tote bag in. Only 2 pair of my Banana Republic jeans were accepted and they wanted to give me $8 for both. I wasn't aware Banana Republic Jeans went out of style. I wasn't aware maxi dresses and dresses went out of style. I also wasn't aware they had the ability to know if I purchased my clothes this year or 2-3 years ago. Apparently my clothes, that has all been purchased within this year, was "too old" for their liking. It was "past the 2 year mark". Or whatever the hell the lady said. All of my clothes is well taken care of and in great condition. So ridiculous!! Waste of my time and gas!!! Never again!! read more

Unfortunately, I am pretty unimpressed with this place. While the store itself is huge and there is a large selection of clothes, the quality (in the XS/S area) just wasn't that great. Sure you can find some decent items, but the pricing is just way too expensive for the used clothing you are getting. Shirts ranged from $8-12 and all the jeans I looked at were over $25. Most of the items were out of style which made me wonder how long some of the stuff had been sitting there.....I was super unimpressed with all the purses and the shoe selection wasn't that great either. There also were no mirrors near the front shoe selection which I didn't like. I would suggest they put large bags in the front for customers to use while shopping because I definitely didn't get any assistance the whole time I was there except when I asked for a dressing room to be opened. Overall - this store gets props for being clean, well organized, and having large aisles. However, I probably won't be back, or at least not for a long time, because as a "young professional" I wasn't impressed with the clothing selection. I'm writing this review as I stand in store currently 6:31pm 12/28/19. This store used to be my go to store to sell and shop. But as of recently it's become trash. Literally trash on the floor, the clothing and accessories pricing is outrageous. I found a pair of brand new wedges for $5, that's awesome! But then you turn around and see a pair of thong Sandals for $13? A lot of the stuff I picked up was extremely worn or has tears and holes in them. I went and asked for a fitting room, and the 2 girls just standing at the counter talking told me to go into an open room. So I did and it was completely filled with clothes. On the rack, on the floor, it was a complete mess. It wasn't until I left the fitting room when the girl tagging new buys DONIKA goes to the room I just walked out of and rudely yells at me " are these all no then" doesn't address me professionally and acts as if I made the mess and ruined her day! I'm sorry you're too lazy to clean out the fitting rooms but don't come at me sideways because I passed on the 3 items I took into the room with me. ALSO, The pricing is completely off. I managed a resell shop for the last 4 years, I Understand how the buying and selling process works but their quoting makes no sense? If I'm seeing a shirt priced for $10 on the floor, the customer should get back anywhere from $2-$3 for it. But it seems like you're only getting back $1 if they bought your shirt for $10. I both sell and buy from this location and this entire experience has ruined this store for me. I highly recommend going to Platos closet right next door. It's cleaner, they seem to give you more if you're selling and the staff is nicer. Which probably explains why mrs Melissa stores are thriving. read more
