I have taken several items in excellent condition with several pieces with tags still on And they don't want to purchase them from me. Very frustrating as this items are definitely in style and besides these young girls working the desk don't know what style is in my opinion. I was Treated with extreme rudeness as soon as I walked in. Last time I sold there the lady told me to come again soon because my clothes are perfect and name brand. This was not the case yesterday. First the website says nothing of having to be in plastic containers so she wouldnt even look at my clothes is canvas bags and then told me she only wanted summer items anyway -of which I had a lot but she wouldn't give me the time of day. Clothes Mentor is the closest thing a frugal business professional such as myself has to being three again with the luxury of having someone else dressing you appropriately every morning, I mean this in the best way possible. Everything here ranges from casual business professional to designer wear. You can't go wrong buying your clothes here. I've been in dire need of a professional makeover & the clothing choices this store offers are hit the spot. I didn't even fully realize I was at this point in my life until I walked in, really. Shirts without brand names plastered all over them, tasteful hems, it all had class. Not even 30 seconds after I walked in a woman, who I presume is the manager, offered to show me the ropes. She walked me through the whole store and explained where everything was and what clearance specials they had going on. Awesome. Worst Customer service ever! Save your money and your time and go elsewhere! I called in advance to ask if an appointment was needed and if they were buying clothes. I was told no appointment needed , come on in anytime- yes they are buying. I arrived the next day and the manager/possibly owner was extremely disrespectful and rude. Apparently they stop buying at 2:00pm and I showed up at 2:05 pm. She was very angry, rather loud and the other customers and the poor girl working there were as taken aback as I was. I'm neutral on Clothes Mentor. I've purchased one pair of Ralph Lauren shoes there for $20. Overall though I struggle to find stylish items on the racks. My girlfriend though has had a lot of luck getting Lulelemon with the tags on. Also their process for accepting items is a real mystery to me. Similar to another reviewer I've brought in on two different occasions clothes from well known brands and have had 1 item from an entire tote selected. I watched them go through another tote and was baffled by the items they kept - In my mind really unflattering clunky shoes. It's entirely possible my style and the associates/stores aren't a good fit. I've had great luck getting a better price for items through Facebook marketplace. read more

Worst customer service ever in all the times I've been here. I understand you're closing but we were in line with the last two other people in the store. When it was our turn to cash out, everyone of the people walked away from the register. The cashier got on her phone and the other two were busy walking away. Then stood there and no one acknowledged we needed to be cashed out. I had to ask to be helped. Seller-beware! My, my, my! I took in a ton of professional, name brand clothing consisting of very nice dresses, blazers, 2 piece suits, many blouses and tops as well as shoes and boots. It was five trips to my car worth of clothing. I was told, yes, these are name brands and in very good condition but we ONLY take items that are one to three years old... really! Then why out of all my professional clothes did they buy from me boots that were 10 years old and dresses and tops that were over 6 years old? They bought exactly 6 pieces from me and I had over a hundred pieces for them to pick from. I was told, "...we know what will sell in the store." So maybe they should run over to the mall and buy out the clearance racks so they will have clothing that no one has worn and isn't more than a few months old! Not everyone is looking for the latest styles in used clothing. A lot of women are looking for comfortable, quality, everyday styles that are not those pricey, weird, right off the rack latest styles from New York. I shop resale stores and they NEVER have much in my size (XL) and I guess it's because these resale stores only want "Skinny Minnie" and "Twenty Somethings" shopping in their store. One last thing... I also thought a lot of the clothing on the racks in the store were not nearly as nice as the clothing I had brought in. I had a Vera Wang dress that they passed on because "...it had an elastic waistband!" It was a Vera Wang dress for crying out loud! I wondered to myself on my way out of the store how that ugly stuff on the racks got picked and my professional clothing, dresses, blazers and all, was rejected in August just before school is about to begin. read more

I would like to leave a review for those who are doubting this store, as many of you know many small businesses are struggling to find workers. When I went in today there was only one person working because they cannot get enough staff. Anyone who has ever operated or managed a business understands that this is a very difficult place to be in. With that said the one person working there did all the work and still managed to help me with my store credit that was not loading in the computer system, receiving bins of clothes from walk in customers, answering phone calls, and checking out customers. It did take quite a long time, but I think that we all need to have a little bit more empathy and compassion on people and the situation that our world is in right now. If we could all be a little bit more patient and practice more self-control and maybe even say something kind to the one person trying to operate an entire business, it could really make our community a better place. The store was very clean and everything was labeled and the floors were tidy, nothing was out of place. Lots of great deals on quality clothing. read more

Love clothes mentor! Prices are better than the other resale shops in town and their staff is always extremely nice. They usually have some kind of sale going on as well. Every time I go in I find brands like free people and Anthropologie for 1/4th of the price. I've even gotten pieces still with the tags original tags on them. read more

After looking at their website, I had the opinion that Clothes Mentor would offer an upscale selection. FALSE ADVERTISING, it was comparable to a GOODWILL. Who ever sits the standards for what they except needs to take a look at what is current. ALL of what I took in was in exceptional condition, all from only the best stores, all within one or two years old (as I had lost weight). I was told they didn't want the pair of dressy black pants which I had purchased last season for over $125. at an exclusive store BECAUSE they were not the style the manager wanted ....WHAT!!! Anyone who know quality would have grab them up in a second. I had a fun little dress by FREE PEOPLE, never worn, also a no, the manager doesn't care for that style. A pair of J Jill denim leggings, like new, no dice. BUT after looking around the store I found nothing but second rate clothing. They had a small rack of Chico clothes which looked to be season 2005. They did take a few things of mine which were worth about $400. and gave me $23.00. Not the professional site they claim to be. They have NO idea on WHAT IS CURRENT and WHAT IS QUALITY! read more

Clothes Mentor is a resale chain for women's fashion--they specialize in "designer fashion" and are more upscale than other consignment chains in the area such as Plato's Closet. You drop off your clothes, they evaluate it, they'll text you when the quote is ready, and then they give you cash for the items they want and return the items they don't want. I went to Clothes Mentor today to drop off three boxes of clothing. I'd been before (both as a seller and a buyer) and had great experiences. The first time, they took about 1/10 of the clothes/shoes I had brought in and gave me ~$50; I then used $27 of this to buy myself some Burberry heels. I loved the experience, I was pleasantly surprised by how much cash I got, and I thought the heels were a steal. Today was a completely different experience. The first time, I had taken in clothes that I really had no use for anymore--many pieces were years out of date. This time, I did a deep overhaul of my closet and included pieces that were recently purchased but that I wasn't in love with. I brought in three boxes of clothes, shoes, jewelry, and purses. They texted me within 20 minutes to let me know my items had been evaluated, and I was shocked to come in and find that they only wanted two dresses and a necklace. Given the quality of this load over the last, I thought they would take more. The sales associate recognized my surprise and said that they "loved my style" but that some of the sweaters were pilly. I can completely understand that. She then added--and this is why I'm giving them two stars--that I should try Plato's Closet instead because, and I quote, "the items are more 'juniors.'" Okay, excuse me. I've been to Plato's Closet, and it's definitely a store for teenagers. I took them a bag of clothes and was told that my stuff was "too nice." This was right before Clothes Mentor opened, so I waited, and once it was open, I took this exact same box of clothes to Clothes Mentor, and this is what they bought the first time for $50. I have no problem if my clothes are not in the shape that Clothes Mentor needs them to be in to resell them. I get that, and I am not offended by it. However, I AM offended when you tell me, a business professional, that my clothes came out of the juniors section. These items were from stores like Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, The Limited, and J. Crew. These were blazers, dresses that I wear to work, slacks, cardigans, purses, and pumps. I'm petite, so the items are small sizes, but they are NOT juniors clothing. And what I thought was particularly funny was that there was one item in the pile from a juniors section--I got it at Nordstrom's BP--and they bought it. UPDATE: I received a call from Jennifer, the manager, and I appreciate her reaching out and apologizing. I'm willing to give them another shot next time I clean out my closet, and I'll be sure to update this review at that time. read more

I went to clothes mentor to consign. Not genuinely friendly had a snobby facial expression but tried to be nice. The clothes I took in were very nice and looked better than clothes in their store. She just thumbed through my bag and complimented me on how nice they were but it wasn't something they could sell. I would not shop or recommend them. read more

Unique, well made items can be found here. Some of their staff are professional and helpful, others not--that's the case in any store. Most of us shop second hand primarily to save money. There are many resale shops for Kalamazoo area shoppers. Clothes Mentor staff did not make me feel valued as I have felt in similar stores. read more

I love love love this store. I bought all my maternity clothes there for a fraction of the price I would have paid at the normal stores. I have also been going there for years before and after pregnancy and always find something good! For a 30 something working woman with lots of body changes after baby, this is the best place. The staff is friendly and will sometimes buy my clothes but also find polite ways to tell me my clothes are wayyy too out of style to buy I tell everyone I know about this place! read more

I first visited this store a week ago as a customer looking for some new tops. I was impressed at how the store was laid out, it appeared clean and I liked how the clothing was displayed by color and size. While I didn't find anything to purchase at this time as didn't have a lot of time to really shop, I was excited that based on what I saw displayed I knew that I had a lot of clothing that was similar or in better condition and was hopeful to bring in a basket and possibly get some money back. When I returned today, they were busy as it was a Saturday. The woman who took my clothing was polite but short. Everyone behind the counter seemed a little frantic. I was told my clothing would be looked at and I would receive a text when it was ready. About 20 minutes after leaving the store I received a text that my clothing had been processed. I was surprised to have heard from them so quickly as there were a lot of items to sort through. When I returned to the store I was again surprised at how little they had accepted. I had more than a full laundry basket full of clean, pressed and current clothing. It was obvious that they only looked through the top half and never even looked at the clothing at the bottom portion of the basket. What they did look through they returned to me crumpled up and wrinkled. I knew walking in that they likely wouldn't have taken all or most of my items; however they plainly did not take the time to look through the entire basket (I had brand new Express Editor pants in there, about 5 pairs of them that were simply too big for me - it was obvious they hadn't been touched); and the manner in which the clothes that were looked at were returned to me was just disrespectful.
