I needed a Mother of the Groom dress in 2 months and had shopped at many other local bridal salons to no avail. I found the dress at one of those salons but could not get it in time. Kathryn Dooley at David's was so helpful, she was able to order me the dress in time for alterations & the wedding. She provided great advice & suggestions and I also purchased shoes, jewelry and a belt that she suggested. My mom also needed a dress & shoes and was able to find them too. I would like to start off by saying this is all based off of my experiences and what I have gone through at David's bridal in Portage Michigan. If I could leave negative stars I would! I have go here 3 separate occasions - to find a dress, for alterations and final fitting. My first visit was the ONLY decent one. My second visit was full of rude staff and attitudes. I was treated very poorly. My alterations were supposed to be done by a lady who couldn't even talk to me without being rude. She also continued to give me dirty looks throughout my whole alteration appointment with another lady. I had gotten a manager who begged us to stay and see somebody else and I should of just taken my dress and left! The alterations ruined my dress!!! There is no way to fix it and no way to make it any better! It's hemmed too short and it's curled up at the bottom! I paid nearly $600 for the alterations and they were completely messed up!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! Do not reply back to my review saying to email you because I already have MULTIPLE times and I have gotten no response back!! As most newly engaged woman are I was excited to be able to schedule a day and time that worked with my family/friends that would be with me when selecting my wedding dress. When we arrived we were greeted and I was asked what I had in mind - I gave specifics on what I desired for style as well as price range. During my fitting I was given a dress to try on and everyone including myself, felt was perfect- only to find out that it was 2X what I told the girl I wanted to spend, BUT (eye-roll) I loved the dress and said YES TO THE DRESS! As I was paying was informed the dress would need to be ordered and that it would take 4 months to arrive. No worries it was ordered in November and should arrive late February, Wedding is in April.... When my dress arrived I received a call and let the caller know what day/time I would be in to pick up my dress. When I arrived I was made to feel that it was a major inconvenience that I wanted to try on my dress (the original dress I tried was 3-4 sizes to big and pinned up). After trying on my dress, it was covered with a clear plastic and when I inquired about something that wasn't see through I was sold a cheap white garment bag. I was beyond words that I just purchased the bag and left knowing full well they had white non-see through bags (that's what my bridesmaids dress came with just months prior). As for Alterations, I had an appointment, scheduled the day off work and was called an hour before hand that my appointment was canceled! Forcing me to find someone to alter my dress 4 weeks before my wedding date. So Ladies, beware you will be taken full advantage of during one of the most exciting times of your life! DO NOT GET ALTERATIONS DONE THRU DAVIDS BRIDAL!!! This was the worst and most expensive mistake i made throughout my entire wedding!!! Not only was my dress 2 inches too short, after picking it up, IT WAS NOT FINISHED!!! They did not finish my dress!!!!!! less than 7 days from my wedding i had to pay another alteration shop to finish the emergency alterations needed! So not only did i pay over $600 for unfinished alterations, they refused to return my calls!!!!!I have a bunch of friends who recently got engaged, and i will make sure none of them use Davids Bridal. The girls that helped me in there today were incredible. The bridesmaid dress that I had did not fit anymore because the wedding had been postponed due to covid. Luckily this store had the exact dress I needed in the exact color and size. They exchanged it for me even though the exchange period for the dress had passed way beforehand. I had an absolutely phenomenal experience when it came to picking my wedding dress and in the proceeding fitting appointments I had. Here's a tip to all brides: know before you go!!! Try to have a general idea of what kind of dress or fits you like most-- it really helps whoever's assisting you to get you your perfect dress. I had Hannah and I went in knowing that A-line was the style I wanted and she picked out some great dresses and told me honest opinions about how they looked and fit (which you definitely want!). The fitting appointments went great, too. All the associates in the store were receptive and kind and I was greeted warmly every time I came in. Trust me: I had low, low, low expectations of this place. I'd read all of these reviews and talked to people who had been there, and my ONLY plan was to try on different shapes to get a feel for what I'd like. This was my first dress shopping experience, and I had no idea what I liked. I read enough about David's Bridal to know I didn't want to be there when it was crowded. My appointment was the first of the day: 11:00am on a weekday. I would HIGHLY recommend getting the first appointment on a weekday if you can. Friends came with me, and we got there before the doors were unlocked. I knew NOTHING about what I wanted. Sure, I had a Pinterest board, but I had no idea what would look good on me versus good in a picture. So when I walked in and they said "pick which dresses you want to try on," I was overwhelmed. There was a consultation, but the associate didn't actually point me in the direction of any of the dresses. She just let us loose in the store. Oh, and she REALLY didn't want to be there. She talked a lot about how she was tired of her job and wanted to be a wedding photographer instead. This was unprompted. I don't know what I expected when I tried on my first wedding dress. I was nervous but also super excited. I generally don't like shopping and trying things on, but I felt like this might be different. I liked putting on the dresses and feeling the fabric and looking like I was, you know, about to get married. I didn't get emotional at all--this seemed more like a business transaction than an important life event--but I had fun taking pictures and trying on things I never would have picked out myself. The dresses themselves were okay. They looked nice on the hangars, but when you put them on, you can see that the fabric quality isn't amazing and the seams are loud (if seams can be loud), and the beading is falling apart a bit. The lace isn't fine, and the silhouettes aren't very interesting. The simple dresses were boring rather than elegant. They have a great selection, but for the prices you pay, the material and crafting really isn't quality. In other words, the price to quality ratio is bad. All that said, it was a good first experience. I learned about what I don't like, and this made my next dress shopping adventure awesome. read more

This David's was much better than the one in Schaumburg, Il where I bought my bridesmaids dresses. I got my gown here and everyone was nice. The manager came over to ask how we were doing and Ann, my sales girl, was nice and helpful letting me try on as many dresses as I wanted. I was able to take the dress that day because they had it in my size. BUT I would give them 2.5 stars for alterations. There was no hook on my dress when they pinned it and they didn't compensate for it, so when they took in the bust it was too tight and gave me an armpit roll. So I had to come back for another appointment when I should have only had one. I also would not recommend their veils. I bought one and am really disappointed in it. It was a $200 cathedral veil which is actually too big and overwhelming for my petite frame and isn't constructed well. The crystals are falling off and the edging is uneven and in some spots not even at the end of the tulle. read more

We were set up with a guy who also had another bridal party he was working with. He was not very good at his job, not attentive at all. Just bought my wedding dress there last night and was very impressed. The consultant and manager were very friendly and helpful. I had printed 10 dresses from the website that I wanted to try and she gladly got them for me, along with a few she recommended. She also did not hesitate when I wanted to "re-try" a few of them before making my decision. Prices are very reasonable for bridal gowns. I found a fabulous dress, veil, and accessories and it came to around $1000. The bridesmaids dresses are pretty decent. The designs/fabric aren't amazing but most of them come in 40 colors and are under $150. The only complaints are we had to wait 10 minutes to start our appointment and the consultant picked a $140 headpiece without telling us the price, when there was a $49 headpiece that looked the same. Also, the dressing rooms are quite small. read more

I refuse to shop here. It's been 12 years since I have stepped inside their doors. One of their seamstresses had their audacity to ask if I was going to be in my best friends wedding (friends since 1st grade and been out of HS 5 years at the time) with a Halo on. For those of you that don't know a halo is surgically drill into your skull. I had just suffered serious injuries from a car accident that should have taken my life by no fault of my own. My consultant Jacob was amazing! He had great vision for dresses and accessories that would create the look I was going for. I had favorites saved on the website, so we looked through those together, and pulled those that were available at the store. He figured out very quickly what I'd like, and taking into account my build and style, he suggested one that I otherwise wouldn't have chosen on own. I figured it wouldn't hurt to try something different...and it was perfect!!! It was busy, so definitely make an appointment. And, it would be nice if this location carried of the designer lines that are on the website, but there is still a great selection :) read more

I had a positive experience here. I went in without an appointment and explained that the dress I ordered online did not fit. They assured me that if I didn't find a dress in store that they would get one delivered before the wedding date (in 2 weeks). I found a dress of the rack that was perfect. My daughter bought her prom dress here. She was told when she bought it that it had a rip and it would be fixed. Fast forward to less than a week before prom and she finally tried it on sure enough there was a rip in the seam that was never fixed. She took the dress to the store after school the next day and explained to one of the staff that it had a rip and it needed to be fixed. The staff member was extremely rude. She looked at the dress and told my dtr that the dress had been worn and was stained so they would do nothing about it. I get a call from my dtr crying. I drove to the store and spoke to the manager who told me that the dress had been worn and was stained and nothing could be done. I asked her to show me the stain and she pointed to a few areas. Those areas were part of the pattern not a stain. I actually had to get loud and rude and demand that Corp was called to resolve the issue. Two hours later my dtr left with a new dress as the other stores that were called ( instructed by Corp) either didn't have the dress or the ones that had the dress the dress was defective. My dtr worked to pay for that dress herself, it's her senior prom, and to be sold a defective dress then be treated so rudely is horrible. We will never return to that store and I will be telling every mother I know about this incident. If I could give you ZERO stars I would! read more

After all the bad reviews for David's Bridal, plus being a weekend - I didn't expect anything exciting. I was just planning on trying on a few dresses and then ordering my dress online once I knew the size and style I liked. Right away the experience was great! Nothing like you see on the TV shows, of course. But it was nothing like I expected. I thought I'd go in and mostly fend for myself or have to wait while they were helping other brides. That never happened. I first picked out a few dresses that I liked and then my amazing bridal consultant Katherine picked out the rest. She ended up finding me the perfect dress and it was below my budget! Even though she had two of us she was helping at once, she did did an amazing job and was always cheerful. If she was stressed from the busyness she never showed it. David's Bridal is lucky to have Katherine on staff! read more

Tagged along with a friend to her fitting. This location is fairly new, but inside feels like a Kmart. We had to stand around and wait for someone to help us, so we looked at dresses. All of them--bridal gowns and bridesmaids dresses alike--looked cheaply made and tacky. We were finally led back to the fitting area, which is...ugh. The ugly carpets have holes worn through them. There are three "stalls" with curtains for doors, and I could see my friend over the top (and she's only 5'4")! There's only one chair back there, and it sits at the end of the TINY walkway and partially in front of one of the stalls. Friend got up in front of the mirror so they could bustle her dress, and the lady was so incredibly rude the whole time. When she was done, she shoved a clipboard full of paperwork at my friend and walked away. The paperwork said that the bustling was $150--my friend had been told previously that it would be about half that, and she had to go track the woman down and discuss it with her. The lady continued to be rude, insinuating that my friend was lying, and suggested that she take out some of the pickups, but that she didn't want to because it would "look bad," and told my friend that she should just spend the money because "it wasn't a big deal." We also had to wait before someone could ring her up for her alterations, and had to deal with a rather large group of young--high school-aged--girls who were trying on dresses and accessories. This is a bridal salon, albeit a low-end one, not a mall store. read more

I was saddened that a business specializing in wedding dresses would be afraid or unwilling to steam a dress from another shop. Do they ruin that many dresses? We had the unfortunate timing of going to get a wedding dress pressed in Grand Rapids at the same time the tornado was hitting the area. Now lack of time forced me to go elsewhere and David's Bridal was unwilling to help even for payment. Seemed mean spirited. We ended up going to a cleaners, but certainly thought professional wedding dress dealers would know what to do and help in a pinch like this. read more

I found the dress over a year ago. It's beautiful and everything I could've wanted. David's Bridal told me they would take care of everything for me. All alterations, add ons, etc. This was not the case. Not only was I told several times that my dress would be done, traveled over an hour to get there, just to find out it was, in fact, NOT done, but they also made it sound like it was my fault. The second time we ran into this incident- us arriving to the store just to be sent back home because it wasn't done yet- they told me they had called me earlier in the day to let me know my dress wasn't done yet. Their "earlier in the day" was actually 6:45pm the day of my appointment. My appointment was at 8pm and it's an hour drive from where I live. When we got there, instead of taking responsibility, they continuously parroted "well there are other weddings before yours." I 100% understand this. I would never expect anyone to put me before someone else. My problem was that they gave me specific dates my dress would be done and each time I showed up, it wasn't done. And instead of taking responsibility, they decided to make the situation out to be my fault. At every turn, they were telling us what WE had done wrong or that WE should've done things differently. While they were polite about it, I did not appreciate the fact that it seemed utterly impossible for them to accept responsibility. It was entirely to easy and convenient for them to blame it on the customer: me. I will say they did make it right in the end, but their communication and time management skills need some serious work. read more

I made the HUGE mistake of purchasing my wedding dress here. First, my appointment was "shared" with someone who had just walked in, meaning that the sales attendant had to split her time between the two of us. I ended up pulling ALL of the dresses I liked by myself, and had my mother help me try them on. There were also several styles of dresses I liked, but DB did not carry in my size. I understand, being a plus size bride, that they cannot carry every style in my particular size but I was told --multiple times--- that I would never be able to try it on unless I PURCHASED it first. Ridiculous. I then made it specifically clear that I did not want a train on my dress, but fell in love with one that did have a train. I was assured that they would be able to bustle the train (for only like $100 extra) so it wouldn't drag on the ground. Later, after doing my own research, I discovered the dress has an option to be ordered without a train... Something I was NEVER made aware of in stores. And to top the cake, since purchasing my dress I have received MANY, MANY phone calls from DB asking if i want to purchase more items from them. For example, I received a call today asking if I want to come in and try on MORE dresses (???) and the caller seemed surprised when I said I had already bought a dress. You would think they would know from my information sheet I filled out at my appointment that my bridesMEN do NOT want dresses and my dress was paid in full at time of purchase. Maybe a more traditional bride would love this experience at DB, but I definitely wish I had chosen someplace else to buy my dress. read more

This is a cautionary tale. If you still plan on going after this review, keep in mind some of the notes I mention at the end. I was a walk-in at David's Bridal back in September of 2015, nine months out from my wedding, giving myself plenty of time to shop and look around for a dress. I went on a Saturday and this was my first dress shopping experience, and so I suppose I wasn't too familiar with dress-shopping etiquette. It is paramount to them that you SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT to look/shop around. Because I had not scheduled an appointment to look around, the young woman looked at me as if she were a deer in the headlights when I said I hadn't scheduled one. I felt kind of bad, but at the same time a little put off at the thought that walk-ins might not be welcomed. I started looking around and I didn't mind waiting for someone to assist me, because after all, I was in no hurry to find something. I just wanted to look. When someone was assigned to me, she was extremely helpful and attentive, even while she was helping another guest with her dresses. It didn't take long for me to realize that I was going to have a tough time finding a dress in my size, in a style that I liked. I am around a 14W, and all the sizes and styles are mixed together. It was discouraging to find a style, but not the size I wanted, or vice versa. Eventually, I did find a dress-- the last dress I tried on, and one I just happened to catch out of the corner of my eye before giving up. There was only one issue with it. I had found it in a 16W. But I was assured it would be no problem, and that they could order a 14W from online. But, as it turned out, online it was only available in 16W-- but it could be altered down up to two sizes. After asking how much alterations would cost at David's Bridal, "starting around $60," it didn't sound too bad. What they do not mention is how high the costs go up from there. Especially if you need more than just a hemming, which of course, this particular dress would need more since it was going to be too large on me to begin with. So, recently I went in to have alterations. The seamstress, Natasha, was wonderful to talk to and tried to find the same dress again out on the shelf or online. She informed me that 16W was absolutely the smallest it came in. Ever. And so, alterations ensued. The total went from under $100 to $355. $355. In alterations alone. Over half the price of the dress itself. I had plenty of time to find a different dress at the time I first walked in, and now I don't. I was not looking to pay nearly $1000 on a dress that I will wear one day, for five hours. Some brides can afford this, and some cannot. And yes, I'm aware there are always unforeseen costs when planning for a wedding. However, since this is a specialty shop, specializing in one thing, the unforeseen should be pretty... seen. The overall feeling was a lack of regard for costs, a lack of knowledge for the products, and a lack of communication and openness. From the moment they quoted a wedding veil costing $200, I could tell what kind of company it was. I just regret not going with my gut about it. TLDR: - Make sure to schedule an appointment. - Selection of sizes is extremely limited if you are over a size 12. Dresses are not organized by size. Anything over size 12 and you may as well be hunting for a unicorn. - If you find a dress that's too big on you, ask if it comes in smaller sizes or if one can be ordered. If not, find a different dress. Even if you have to go to a different store. - OR get that oversized dress you like, and find a place that will NOT charge you an exorbitant amount to alter it. It can be done, I'm positive. And your dress will still look beautiful and amazing. Good luck, and have fun! read more

I had an excellent experience here on a Saturday. For some reason, it was dead (maybe it's the off season?), so I was well tended to by Jacob. I was not rushed or pressured (he says they don't make commission). I told him I was not buying that day, but he didn't treat me any different. I was hesitant to have a male consultant, but Jacob was awesome! I've been to DB many times, and he gave me the best experience yet. I sadly won't return to the Portage store because I was just in town that one day, but I highly recommend him and this store. read more

The service I received there included: -Lack of service -argued with me (the customer) -I had to help my friend (who's the bride) in and out of her dresses as well as hang up the dresses (do the bridal consultants JOB) -They ignored the wishes of the bride of trying on certain dresses and brought her whatever they felt like bringing -Made several snide remarks -Personally insulted my friend and I's tastes ("WHY would you pick THAT" and "That dress is really ugly") -Complained about personal life to customers ("i was SUPPOSED to leave at 7, but i'm stuck here", "I'm too busy to call my brides to check up on them") Obviously that last statement says it all, their service is the last things on their minds. Went there later with another friend who was a bride and they told her she needed to look at plus size dresses. She was a size 10. How insulting. read more

I would highly, highly advise to go elsewhere. I bought a dress from Davids Bridal back in October after I got engaged. My wedding was to be 9/20/13... unfortunately a horrible medical issue happened to me in December and I almost lost my life. Because of it, I am left with disabilities and money issues from medical bills and therefore I had to cancel my entire wedding. Every other vendor, EXCEPT Davids Bridal, has been more than understanding and helpful with the situation. I NEVER asked for a refund... I simply wanted to exchange my dress that I picked out (it still has tags on, is in the bag, and has not been altered) for a different style. I had an extravagant wedding planned and therefore picked an extravagant dress. We now are forced to have a small dinner at a restaurant with around 20 people. It will look ridiculous for me to wear such a lavish dress, and it will be difficult for me to move around with my new disabilities. The dress is now discounted so they will not let me exchange it. I even offered to spend way more on a new dress so they wouldn't lose ANY money- they would end up making money... but no. Andrea at the Portage location had me call corporate and I spoke to Heidi who would not budge because of "policy". I work in customer service and this has left me bewildered and outraged let alone very, very sad. Having such a horrible medical situation happen- that I have to deal with for the rest of my life- is bad enough... but to have to cancel my entire wedding and then Davids Bridal isn't even willing to work with me... AND they would not lose money in the end because they would get me paying even more for a different dress and have my returned dress to sell at a sale price. Shame on you guys. This is supposed to be the happiest time of my life and you have managed to make it even worse... read more

I don't know how anyone finds a dress here. This place is like a flea market, it is constantly a mess and the clientele and employees leave much to be desired. Since I have purchased several bridesmaid dresses here I knew what kind of experience to expect, not a lot of help but cheaper prices. I thought once I knew what type of dress I wanted, found at higher end stores, I would go here to find something similar in lower price range. I made my first appointment for Friday night at 7 pm thinking that it would be less busy and I would actually have a better experience. They told me the entire appointment would last 60 minutes. It did, but not the way I would have liked. When my sister and I entered we waited for 5 minutes for someone to actually say something to us and then it was 25 more minutes before I even got a dress on. They advertise the $99 dress sale in the window but then only let me pick dresses to try on out of their catalog, which were far from $99. They didn't even let me look at the sale rack! That whole sale is a ploy to get you in the door. I didn't honestly think I would have found something for $99 even if I had looked because I have pretty high standards when it comes to quality of fabric and its manufacturing but it would have been nice to have the chance to even look. So much for a lower price range as the dresses I tried on ranged in price from $850-$1050. We were already 30 minutes into the appointment when I got the first dress on and I pretty much tried 7 dresses on within the next 25 minutes because I walked out the door exactly 60 minutes after I walked in. I did find two dresses that I thought were worth a second try-on session when my mom was in town. However, that appointment was on a Saturday at noon. I brought my mom, bridesmaids (2) and future sister-in-law. I honestly believe I brought the smallest party with me because it seemed like everyone else had at least 15 people with them. I was shoved into a dressing room in a row that was already full and when I came out my mom had to look over other people's heads to actually be able to see me. It was ridiculous. Needless to say I tried those two dresses on and I don't think they stood a chance because the environment was so horrible. Everyone just wanted to get out of there. The employee that was working with me pretty much left me as soon as I told her that I was going to pass on the two dresses and she moved on to the other 5 clients she was helping. I don't how any bride can feel special in that store. It's like a sweatshop for bridal gown purchasing. read more

Would give less than 1 star if I could. Just awful. Wish I would have read the reviews before my mom, sister and I came last weekend. My sister was looking for her wedding dress and had such a disheartening experience. We were given about 5 minutes to look through the racks with no assistance, and then the woman who was "helping" us pulled about 4 dresses that were not at all what my sister wanted to try. She was friendly, but incredibly unhelpful. (Other employees were downright rude and most seemed uninterested in working.) She hurried us into a dressing room. The dressing rooms are like bathroom stalls. No mirrors in the dressing room. You come out basically into a cattle call with TONS of other ladies looking at themselves in a long wall of mirrored doors. Tacky. The employee assisting us was helping AT LEAST two other parties and paid very little attention to us. Rushed, no guidance, very pushy about dresses that we clearly were not in love with. Just an awful experience. I called another bridal salon while we were still in the store, made an appointment, and we basically RAN out of there. Never again. Save yourself the disappointment. No one usually picks up the phone unless it rings and rings off the hook. The dresses are not cheap to buy but are cheaply made. Unless you work with a manager the knowledge level is very low with several staff members. I don't think it's an excuse to offer a poor experience for customers just because you are a chain store. read more

Wish I could give a half star! Worst service I've ever had from a place hoping to sell $100+ special occasion apparel. Went in for bridesmaid dresses and was paired with an inattentive attendant who not only tried to redirect us from ordering a discontinued and discounted dress from davidsbridal.com, but left me and my bridesmaid to "rummage" around the rack, not helping us at all. Her attitude was poor and full of malaise. The dress we really wanted was available online only and after an hour of being ignored/high pressured to order from the store, we left. I truly thought I was was making the right choice for my daughter's prom and making sure we went to get a dress a known retailer. Was I so wrong I have never felt so riped off in my life. Over $400.00 later we have a hack job of a dress. They tried to make us pick it up without trying it on when I insisted they finally let my daughter try it on. It was HORRIBLE we had to pin a bra in so it would not be inappropriate to wear. They kept trying to move the fabric by hand and said it would be fine for prom. If it is not fit for her now how will prom change your horrible alterations!! I told Natasha the manager I was not happy and I would not sign anything it looked so horrible. Natasha proceeded to tell my 16 year daughter she must sign for it or she could not take it she went as far as blocking my child from walking out. Never once even received an apology. I made an appointment for a Saturday at 1 pm for my first round of trying on bridal gowns. When I arrived, I was promptly greeted and asked a few questions before being introduced to my sales consultant/stylist Jacob. I have to admit, at first I was hesitant to have a young man as my consultant, but Jacob quickly set my mind at ease. He started out with a few simple inquiries as to my size and what I was looking for, and quickly began pulling dresses. I was a little nervous about these fittings. I'm a very curvy 14/16, and large chested, but Jacob had me pinned into and looking great in size 12 samples. He had a great eye for what would flatter my figure and was totally on point with suggestions. He was also very patient with my family pulling samples and offering input. One of the dresses he pulled for me drew tears from my family and even though I didn't buy it that day, is a very strong contender for my perfect day. One drawback is that about halfway through my appointment they assigned him another bride to dress. The rest of the appointment resulted in him running back and forth trying to dress us both. He was very apologetic and did a good job keeping up, but when you make an appointment for bridal fittings, it's nice to feel relaxed and not be rushed. I was also disappointed to find that none of the Vera Wang dresses were available in store to try on. Those were primarily the dresses I was interested in. All in all, I tried some nice dresses and would recommend Jacob to anyone who has a fitting at this store. read more

Terrible terrible customer service! I had found a wedding gown and had an amazing experience and I was looking forward to setting up a appointment for my bridesmaids. We had a schedules appointment and when we got there the desk lady told us someone would be right with us to look at dresses, well no one came.. Finally someone came asked a couple questions then disappeared lucky for me one of my bridesmaids has been in plenty of weddings to kind of know how to look at dresses etc.. Once we found a couple of dresses for my girls to try on WE had to find another lady to take us to a dressing room, we had no assistance once they were given their rooms and again we were left alone.. When my girls were done trying on the dresses and decided which one to get, we stood around waiting for some associate to tend to us, no one came, even when there were a group of 5 girls standing in a circle just chit chatting. My one bridesmaid went over to them asking if it were possible to get any help and they acted like we had inconvenienced them... I will never do business in a David's bridal store ever because of this experience and how unprofessional their associates are, absolutely disgusted. read more

I came to Davids Bridal in Portage, Michigan to find a prom dress for my senior prom. I had been saving money for quite some time to be able to afford a nice dress and I finally found one that I felt extremely comfortable in at Davids Bridal. The problem was, the only size that fit me had two rips in it. One near the zipper -which was an easy fix- and one at the seam. I was told both would be fixed and they sent it to the back and it came back to me in a plastic cover. Being extremely happy having purchased my first $200 dress, I took it home and placed it neatly in my closet. Fast forward to the week before prom... I try my dress on with my new shoes and jewelry just to find out that my dress is STILL ripped. Only the zipper part was fixed. I had taken the tags off, unfortunately thinking this was the right dress and knowing that Davids Bridal doesn't do returns. However, I did know they told me they fixed my seam, so the next day after school I headed over there to get it fixed. I meet with the woman at the front desk and after a quick glance at my dress she tells me that not only is my dress unfixable, that it was worn. I was treated so rudely because of my age. The store manager happened to be there that day and she, again, accused me of already wearing it. Fast forward AGAIN... My mother comes in and we both bring the dress to the store manager and ask her to show us the stains. There were NO stains! In fact it was the pattern of my floral dress. We were still told no exchanges or refunds would be made. It took two hours on the phone with corporate for them to finally offer me a refund... I don't advise buying anything from Davids Bridal but I do know that the price can be right (as it was for me). I advise any future buyers to check their dresses before exiting that store and taking pictures in the store for proof. I hope no one has to ever go through anything like my mother and I had to. Please just be aware before you purchase, ladies!! read more

My daughter and I recently shopped at David's Bridal in Portage, MI and had an absolutely terrific experience. We didn't have an appointment (it was a weekday around lunchtime) and we were immediately greeted as soon as we walked into the store. Our sales associate was Carly and after some preliminary questions she seemed to have a keen sense of what kind of dresses my daughter wanted to try on. The store was very orderly and neat and had a wide selection of dresses in all sizes and price ranges. My daughter fell in love with the second dress she tried on but probably tried on at least seven or eight more before making her final decision. Carly found the perfect veil to go with the dress too. There was no "hard sell" and my daughter felt special the entire time. I would highly recommend David"s Bridal in Portage; this store was a large part of the reason that wedding dress shopping was such a special day for my daughter and me. read more

When I 1st started going to Davids Bridal (Portage, MI) to search threw the dresses the staff was nice and helpful. As soon as I purchased the dress I fell in love with everything went down hill FAST! I started getting treated like I wasn't as important and my brides maids were treated even worse. I went for my very first alterations appointment and it was normal... The lady took measurements, explained everything to me and assured me everything would be done by my next appointment for my 1st fitting. How WRONG that was! As soon as I stepped into my dress the 1st time they had altered it, the fit was way off, my busstle was wrong and my pleating wasn't done right and there was a pencil mark on the back of my dress! Needless to say for that fact my sister and I nit picked my dress top to bottom to make sure things were done right the 2nd time! They promised to have my dress ready for me within a few short days. I went back for my 2nd fitting and OMG I couldn't have been any more disappointed! The fit was fine now BUT there were stains on the skirt of my dress that they couldn't explain, my pleating wasn't finished correctly and there were snags and runs all over my dress that were NOT there at the 1st fitting and the lady blamed me for them!!! She said I must have caught my ring on it... Umm yeah I snagged my ring over 10 times all over the front side and back of my dress!?!?! What a crock. Not only are they horrible but they make you feel like shit! At this time my wedding is in 2 1/2 days so NO time to have more alterations or "fixes" done. It still has runs and stains all over it and I'm in the process of getting a refund of my dress. I advise anyone looking to have alterations done by them to RUN AWAY!! The worst expieriance I ever had and I don't get to walk down the isle in the perfect dress I was dreaming of any more. read more

I went to David's Bridal to purchase a dress for my daughter's wedding. Her wedding colors are blue and pink. I made an appointment, but when I arrived, the salesperson who was supposed to be helping us was too busy helping other people. She told us to look around and pick out dresses, and then when we had questions we had to wait to get her attention. After selecting the dress I liked the most, which was a floor-length dress with a jacket, they did not have it in the color I wanted (there were only 2 color choices) but the salesperson said that the Wedgewood blue color in the store on another dress would be the color of the dress I was ordering. I should have walked away given the poor sales treatment after I found out I had to pay IN FULL for the dress before it was ordered, because once a business has your money, they don't care about making sure you are satisfied. Most dress places will ask for a deposit, but not the full amount! The dress cost $200.00. When the dress arrived, I made an appointment to try it on. The dress was NOT the color I had been told it would be, but was instead a purple-gray color. When I complained to the manager about this, I was told that the dress which I had been told was the same color was in fact not, because it had an "M" in front of wedgewood, and the dress I had ordered did not have an "M" in front of the wedgewood color. The dress color on the web site, which is blue, is also not the color of the dress which came in. The dress jacket had snags in it, with threads pulled, and they "fixed" that by pulling threads to the inside of the jacket. Because I had already paid for the dress, and it was getting to be too close to the wedding time to search around for another dress, I felt I had no choice but to get the dress altered and use it. I had to pay for the alterations IN ADVANCE, again, a big warning sign. The alterations cost $130.00! I should have taken the dress to an outside person instead of paying that outrageous price. I wore the shoes (which are flats, no heels) that I was going to wear to the wedding when the seamstress pinned up the dress for alterations. Today, I went to try on the dress after the alterations were done, and I had made an appointment when the alterations seamstress was supposed to be there. When I arrived, the seamstress was not there. I was given the dress to try on. It is too short. The dress has two layers, an underlayer and then a very light chiffon over that. The chiffon layer was slightly too short, but the underlayer was up at my ankles! Because the chiffon fabric is so sheer, you can see that there is a difference in the length of the two layers, and that the underlayer is too short. The hem is also crooked, off by 1/4 inch from the left to the right side, and it is easy to see that it is crooked. I talked to the manager, who told me I needed to come back when the seamstress came back, about 1 hour after my initial appointment, so that she could see the dress on me. I went back after an hour, put the dress back on again, and the seamstress told me (with a straight face) that that was the way the dress was supposed to be, that the inner layer is always that much shorter than the outer layer, although she did admit that the hem was crooked. Of course, she wasn't going to tell me that they had made the dress too short, because then they would have to replace the dress, and the wedding is in 2 weeks! They may say that they want the customer to be satisfied, but once they have your money, they will not follow through and make sure you are satisfied. I will never go to them again, and I encourage anyone reading this to think very carefully about shopping at a store where you have to pay upfront and then you are basically powerless to have any recourse if you are not satisfied. read more
