Fun routes, more realistic grades than SBP ( which is extremely soft). I like the week membership format.

Great, local, no-frills bouldering gym in Tacoma. My husband and I moved from the Bay Area to…read moreSeattle and have been checking out the local bouldering scene in the PNW - Climb Tacoma has been one of our favorite gyms to check out on a day pass since it's near my parents. FACILITIES For bouldering? Wide variety of routes for different levels and technical focus. For example, a lot of bouldering gyms we've been to have their routes go vertical to fit more climbing onto a set of panels. I like that Climb Tacoma has options where a route might go across, so I get to practice different climbing techniques. Some routes exercise grip strength, others may be more core or balance focused. It makes the experience more fun and rewarding when you complete the beta. I've only been climbing actively for a little over 7 months and can climb up to V2 routes; my husband can climb up to V5/V6. Climb Tacoma has been great because we're both able to keep busy with how many routes there are. There's even a small area for kids to practice climbing and a fun spray wall to test different holds. My only complaint with their bouldering is that their labeling system can be very confusing - you need to look at the tape color to indicate difficulty... not the color of the hold. For exercising? It's lacking - a very small fitness / workout area with little equipment compared to other climbing gyms in the area. I would say comparable to small fitness centers you get in hotels. That said... I don't come here for that, I come to boulder. LOCATION + PARKING Location is off S 38th ST so really close to Tacoma Mall or the Vietnamese area of S 38th ST... making it pretty convenient for finding food after a climbing session. In terms of crowds, it's never been a problem coming here on the weekends, the day before a holiday, or in the middle of a weekday (ex/ for their Monday special for "Femmes and Themes". Their parking seems a bit small but it's never been an issue for us as we're always able to find a spot. OVERALL Coming from the Bay Area, I appreciate how chill this climbing gym. It doesn't play loud music, people are respectful when it comes to climbing and there aren't "influencer" or gym bro vibea you get from Silicon Valley / SF gyms. If you are looking for a high end gym with the works like towel service, saunas, yoga classes, etc... then I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you're just looking to boulder in the area, this gym is great for that with extremely fair pricing. Other climbing gyms, pricing is understandably higher because there may rope courses with higher overhead. I like that what I pay here is for bouldering... and there are lots of options to choose from. Make sure to check their site for specials like Half Price First Fridays or the $15 "Femmes and Thems" discount (rentals included)!

I am used to the service from a climbing gym back in California, and there, they offer really good hospitality throughout your visit there...not just when you enter the doors to sign in. I will say that the front desk staff was indeed considerate when dealing with the finances so that people who qualify for the discount (i.e. healthcare worker, first responder, student, etc.) were covered. cute ping pong table to rest from the climbing and very clean bathroom. would be nice to have paper towels to really wipe off the chalk, though. wishing health and wellness for those who choose to climb! lots of kids here, too, so this is a cool family bonding activity for y'all to do, if you are into that

I do wish they had bigger socks / more stretch to them because as a size 10 wide in women's... they were pretty tight. There was a good amount of bounce houses. Some did have taped over holes, but they didn't lose their effectiveness. The wait for the above obstacle course was pretty short but, kids do like to cut or "that's my friend he was holding my spot" so just be aware of that. It does have a run down dirty feel to it but, you can't ask for much. It's cheap entertainment.

Were there employees present? Yes. Did they care about the safety of their patrons? Nope. I watched two employees allowing very young children to harness themselves onto the rope course. Another employee passively checked his phone while kids piled into sleds to go down a slide only to slam into toddlers who had been allowed to play in the landing zone. Eventually parents started managing the different stations while the employees wandered away to either play on their phones in corners or disappear entirely. I now see why their waiver is also the longest I've ever seen as well. With regards to the birthday areas, they also appeared to be unstaffed which I've never seen at a play zone. As for the equipment many of the pads were so low on air so kids and adults got stuck. I cannot recommend this place at all. It is an accident waiting to happen and there are much safer play zones to visit.

The entire team here is incredible and the members are awesome as well. We have both done personal training (my trainer was Kam) here and learned a lot and we go to the Sunday class most often . Ascent is both welcoming and accommodating to folks of all identities and abilities and of all sizes. As someone with concerns about environments that can foster an environment where counting calories and weighing in are encouraged or emphasize is put on size, Ascent is the exact opposite. Ascent is a wonderful unicorn place where people can go just to learn how to better move their bodies and grow stronger and find victories that have nothing to do with size- like hiking longer distances, or having less back pain, or being able to lift more. They always offer alternative exercises to meet people where they're at which is super refreshing. They also host so many great events and series classes like queer inclusive self defense. We drive from a fair distance away because the community here is so much better and they have a mission you can't help but support. By far the best collective group of humans I've met since moving to Washington and that is such a testament to the owners Luca and Katie!

The focus at this gym is functional fitness, so you do a variety of exercises each time you go--including crawling, get-ups, weights (and body weight exercises), lunges, etc. I also love that the trainers will give plenty of modifications as needed, as I'm limited in shoulder mobility due to an injury. Their main format is small group classes, but personal training and open gym hours are also available. Which works for me, became I'm way more accountable when I'm in a class anyway! I've gotten noticeably stronger since I first started, which has helped me not only in my work and at home, but with my self-confidence overall. Exercise really is the best self care. They have 13 campsites for rent with picnic tables and firepits, along with a lodge that has a full kitchen, fireplace, covered porch and restrooms. You can also rent canoes. There are BB gun ranges, archery ranges, an obstacle course, and activity fields. They have a rock climbing wall too. Set on about 20 acres, this camp is large enough for kids to get lost in so be sure to pack appropriately for the woods. I've been here a few times for Boy Scout events. The camp is well maintained. The firebowl is a great meeting place and the view over the water is nice, but it does get cold, even in the summertime. My son told me there are a lot of trails. We came from another YMCA in King County and were greeted at the front and registered as a guest member of the location. When we worked out, there were tons of machines and we were never waiting around for somebody to finish up their routine which was really nice in comparison to some of the smaller work out areas. My fiancé and I played a half court game of basketball and the space looked like it was really made for a professional game of college basketball. Another perk I thought was really nice was that they had bins of clean towels all over the place which you didn't have to pay the usual $2 for. Overall, it was really fun coming here and seeing the school spirit scattered throughout the different floors. There is tons of Husky art and even though it is super close to the actual school it isn't over populated on the weekends. Will definitely be back to play some volleyball and basketball with my friends getting ready for our summer bods!

My son's cousin was registered for the Presidents' Day day camp so we decided to register him, too! It was $49 for a 3 hour drop off session. The camp included games, open play free time use of the space, crafts, and more with other kids and teachers. Upon first look everything looked really clean and safe! My son was a little nervous to be left without me on the sidelines, but when I returned I could tell he formed a comfy relationship with the teachers working and they mentioned how well he did during the duration of the camp. We've never done something like this so I'm glad to have it on my radar for school breaks! They also host "parents night out" events where you're able to drop the kids off and go on a date night - which is a really fun alternative to keeping the kids at home with a sitter. Worth noting that kiddos need to be potty trained and able to separate from parents in order to attend the drop off camps. We'll definitely be bringing my son back in the future!
