My husband and I moved from the Bay Area to…read moreSeattle and have been checking out the local bouldering scene in the PNW - Climb Tacoma has been one of our favorite gyms to check out on a day pass since it's near my parents. FACILITIES For bouldering? Wide variety of routes for different levels and technical focus. For example, a lot of bouldering gyms we've been to have their routes go vertical to fit more climbing onto a set of panels. I like that Climb Tacoma has options where a route might go across, so I get to practice different climbing techniques. Some routes exercise grip strength, others may be more core or balance focused. It makes the experience more fun and rewarding when you complete the beta. I've only been climbing actively for a little over 7 months and can climb up to V2 routes; my husband can climb up to V5/V6. Climb Tacoma has been great because we're both able to keep busy with how many routes there are. There's even a small area for kids to practice climbing and a fun spray wall to test different holds. My only complaint with their bouldering is that their labeling system can be very confusing - you need to look at the tape color to indicate difficulty... not the color of the hold. For exercising? It's lacking - a very small fitness / workout area with little equipment compared to other climbing gyms in the area. I would say comparable to small fitness centers you get in hotels. That said... I don't come here for that, I come to boulder. LOCATION + PARKING Location is off S 38th ST so really close to Tacoma Mall or the Vietnamese area of S 38th ST... making it pretty convenient for finding food after a climbing session. In terms of crowds, it's never been a problem coming here on the weekends, the day before a holiday, or in the middle of a weekday (ex/ for their Monday special for "Femmes and Themes". Their parking seems a bit small but it's never been an issue for us as we're always able to find a spot. OVERALL Coming from the Bay Area, I appreciate how chill this climbing gym. It doesn't play loud music, people are respectful when it comes to climbing and there aren't "influencer" or gym bro vibea you get from Silicon Valley / SF gyms. If you are looking for a high end gym with the works like towel service, saunas, yoga classes, etc... then I would suggest looking elsewhere. If you're just looking to boulder in the area, this gym is great for that with extremely fair pricing. Other climbing gyms, pricing is understandably higher because there may rope courses with higher overhead. I like that what I pay here is for bouldering... and there are lots of options to choose from. Make sure to check their site for specials like Half Price First Fridays or the $15 "Femmes and Thems" discount (rentals included)!

There was a Day of the Dead festival being held here that we saw from flyers around town. We swung by for a quick visit. We were very impressed with the community center with the walking track, swimming pool, conference rooms and other areas for kids to play such as video games and slides. As for the festival itself it was really cool and a fun cultural experience to have this time of the year. Lunch was served and there were dances and performances to honor the concept of the holiday. Our younger to love to come to open swim, play basketball in the gym and attend all the kid events. It's really just been the best thing about moving here. We are a very active family so we get to come here together and have a great time. Our kids are ages 15,14,8 & 7. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days for the little ones because they have family swim and the gym is Open Play 3-8pm these days too. The pool only goes to 4ft so it's perfect for our younger ones. Our teens just get in the jacuzzi they don't really swim but we just found out about the Eastside location so we plan to check that out today, it's bigger and you can use your membership there as well. We will probably go to the other location only once a week because it's like 15-20 mins from here. Kids 18 under are free 18+ $25/month. Great deal! I love using the adult jacuzzi and sauna as well! They also offer workout classes, personal training, this weekend is their free kids Christmas event. The Halloween one was lots of fun as well!

I have played on the four indoor courts extensively, including a lot of league play, and have always found them adequate. They were resurfaced not too long ago. Playing on the six outdoor courts in good weather is really nice, though as a previous poster noted, they are typically dry only four or five months a year. For anyone who values the social aspect of tennis, LRC is a good bet, too. The management and members are friendly folks. I'll always have a warm place in my heart for this club, and would have given five stars but for not wishing to appear as a homey booster.

But who's joining a tennis club in Seattle/Tacoma where it rains 8 months out of the year for the outdoor courts? I'm judging this place based on their indoor courts which needs work. The lighting could be nicer on all 4 indoor courts. They have 2 courts in one area of the club, then 2 in another. The first 2 courts are awful, there are big ceiling poles in the middle, and a wall to the left side that you can easily run into. I've had Lakewood team tennis players tell me it's their strategy to hit short angles so players collide into that wall. When you run back for lobs, there's basically no padding behind the tarp. So you collide right into a wall. Once, I was running back for a lob and someone had the steel door open because they were watching a match through it (I don't get why this person thought this was a good idea). So, I run into the tarp and right into the door (I didn't know it was open), right into them, and had the door been open a bit more, it would have probably knocked me out. They have a pool here. But it's not a real lap pool where you can swim. It's what I call a "drunk pool." Meaning it's more one of those pools people in Southern Cali will have in their backyard, where on late summer nights when you've had a lil' too much hard alcohol and for some reason you feel like jumping into water naked - it's that type of sized pool. If this club near was in the Bellevue or Seattle area, or more North, it wouldn't survive. I think it has a large membership base because there aren't many options in the Tacoma area for tennis. Tacoma Lawn isn't worth the money at all (indoor courts are pretty weak), Sprinker is nice but always packed, so Lakewood survives as an alternative.

Favoritism runs rampant. Sloppy business practices at best. Lies and cover ups. A disgraceful lack of partnership with parents. Closed practices..... seems suspicious. I should have trusted my gut, and these reviews. Despite claiming a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, violence, and body-shaming, their actions suggest otherwise. Between school, sports and swim classes this deployment flew by. Soldiers Field made it that much easier for me as well. I enrolled both kids here for swim classes, they fill up fast and you have to know when open enrollment is, especially for the older swim classes but once you're in they roll you over into the next class until open enrollment starts again. The staff here are overall so nice and the instructors here have so much patience with the kids and really give them the tools they need to be able to not only become comfortable with the water but actually learn how to swim. My little one went from being semi scared of the water to now jumping in and being excited about showing me how he can put his head under water and make bubbles. My older one had one other swim lesson in his life and then did 3 here and he now can stay above water and has the basics for swimming down.
