I recently joined this YMCA and have had a great experience thus far. They have kind and caring staff, well-maintained facilities, and a wide range of activities for everyone in the family. They have a huge gym, both lap and activity pool (including lazy river and splash pad area, a big hit for kids), and a wide variety of classes, many of which are included in your membership fee. NOT A SAFE PLACE FOR WOMEN ANYMORE!!! This has gotten out of control! Women should not be bringing boys into the adult side of the women's locker room who are 5 or older. It's gotten to the point that 5, 8 and 10 year old boys will come into the women's side of the locker room and just stare at women and the parent or the staff are doing nothing about it. I have been writing comments and asking the staff to enforce the rules for over a year now and none of them will. My 12 and 14 year old girls aren't even comfortable going into the women's locker room anymore. They shouldn't even let 5 and under in the women's locker room. There is a kids side and it sold be 2 and under for boys. They even have a family room but they ignore it and use the women's locker room. If they are going to bring the kids in they need to follow the rules and use the kids side not the adult side. The signage is not clear enough or people don't bother even reading the signs. I tried to inform a mom today that there was a kids side and ask her to take her boy to the other side but that feels wrong also because that's where the little girls are. I was verbally attacked and was getting yelled at by the woman for asking her to please take her boy to the kids side. She's yelling and me and crying and the I get ganged up by 3-4 other women even though she's the one yelling and swearing at me. Staff did nothing about it!! The lifeguards ignore the boys waking into the women's locker room who are clearly older than 5 as well. It's not a safe place for females anymore and it's only getting worse. read more

Absolutely appalled at this location Many people pushed out of RV parks and homes and all they were asked for was showers and they let a handful do this but then told no one could any longer. Just not worth it. Family membership almost $140/month. You're basically underwriting deeply discounted childcare and free memberships for people who can't afford them. Unfortuately pools are in short supply around this area. Locker rooms are FILTHY, broken constantly and in general disrepair. One time there was a full human fece in the showers. The family changing suites are even worse. Recommend you bring some bleach spray with you. Suit spinners taken out, lazy river broken for months, pool surface coating crumbling. The workout area is much better but there are much cheaper options if you just need to lift and do cardio. read more

We've been going to this location for a few years. Just recently my son 5 started the preschool swim class. We've done the mommy and me swim class but he was pretty worried to be alone in the pool. His swim instructor Ilene or as she would say eye-lean. Was hands down the most amazing teacher he could possibly have. She was patient but Stern. My son has a fear of going under water and I thought for sure he was going to jump out of the pool. But Ilene stayed with him and kept him interested threw his few seconds of crying. she was able to get him wanting to go back next week! I really appreciate this type of instructor read more

I've been a long time member and use the "Y" six days per week. They seem to be severely understaffed, and as a result, the lack of cleanliness shows. In the current covid world, it is left up to members to clean on the honor system, and there seems to be a lack of honor. Also, often times, the cleaning supplies are not well stocked, making it difficult to clean. Lately, they have been removing strength training equipment from the upstairs area and not replacing it, making it difficult to get a thorough workout, as the equipment is often occupied, without a backup machine. I'll continue to use the facility, as it is paid for by Silver and Fit for me, as part of my Medicare package. That being said, I'd think twice if I were paying full price. Definitely not the same place I initially joined. read more

I like this gym but 3/4 bikes that I use don't have the subscription anymore to ride classes making the bikes useless. If you're looking for a gym with bikes to ride, I wouldn't recommend this gym sadly. It's been this way since beginning of June and I've asked when this is getting fixed and it just never happens. I just walked in and was told no child watch today. Nowhere on their website does it say it's closed. Things Always breaking down, People Peeing in the steam rooms so you cant use it. Hot tub, breaking down, lazy river breaking down. But no reimbursement for the monthly membership charge. I was told I could drive further away to use a different YMCA because due to funds they are not sure when it will be fixed.... I was a member for almost a year. And that was too long. I would never join the YMCA again. Joining it in the first place was such a hassle. I was told different things by different employees about what the income restrictions were, what documents were necessary, etc: I was told I had to log into a Washington state website to prove that I have zero income. I said, why do I have to prove that? I am on WIC and snap EBT. That should tell you right there that I am low income. She said no, you still have to log into the Washington state website. Another staff member said I do not have to log into that website. Nobody was on the same page. So at this point, I am now working with a third or fourth staff member. And she was harassing me. She questioned me as to how I'm surviving with zero income. She said, how am I paying my membership if I don't have any income? I said my parents are going to help me out with it, she said well then you have to include their income in your application. I said no I don't, because they are not in my household. It's just my daughter and I in our household. She said it doesn't matter, you have to include them in your application. So I had to go to a manager (now it's been two weeks of me trying to join this place), and she said that is absolutely not true. And she let me join right then and there without including my parents income, or the other websites or documents. I just had to show her one document proving I was on snap EBT. Nobody ever answers the phone. So if you have any questions, you have to actually go into one of the locations. This is extremely inconvenient and ridiculous. One of the teachers was really good with my daughter. The rest were terrible. They were very impatient with her, as she has ADHD and wiggles a lot. Their staff is not capable of teaching children that don't hold perfectly still, and don't do exactly what they say. And that's unfortunate, because there are MANY children that are not cookie cutter perfect. I signed my daughter up for a preschool type class there at the Y called Little Learners. She was all excited to start preschool there...and then they cancelled it a few days before it started. They sent an email out to all of us parents who had our children signed up for this class. It stated that we would all receive a phone call regarding this issue. Of course I never got a phone call. I have called both Puyallup and the Sumner YMCA trying to get a hold of managers several times regarding different issues, of course I never once got a hold of a manager via phone call. So I left messages for them, and nobody ever called me back after leaving voicemails on their personal voicemails. I had signed up for my membership payment to be automatically taken out of my bank account every month. After my first month went by, I received an email stating that my membership was canceled due to no payment. So again, I had to go to one of their locations because, of course you can't get a hold of anybody via phone. And they said that the staff member must not have signed me up for an automatic payment. So I had to restart my entire membership process all over again. As you can imagine, I almost canceled that day. But my daughter wanted to do the classes so bad, I unfortunately kept it. Finally l, upon deciding to cancel my membership, I called to cancel on the 5th. The gal said I would have to pay for another month because I did not cancel by the 25th. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told that this is their policy. I said I understand that is your policy, but you are not getting another month membership out of me at this point considering everything that has happened over the last year. I also said, it is impossible to call you guys and cancel a membership over the phone. So if you do have a policy like that, you need to make your staff available to cancel my membership. She then told me, well, you can come into any center to cancel, and you could have left a voicemail. I said that's the wrong answer. The right answer to that when you are talking to a customer is, "I am sorry that we do not answer our phones even though that is what the phones are for. I will cancel your membership today." I could understand if nothing else has happened in the past. But considering everything that has happened over the last year, you are not getting another month out of me. So after getting an attitude, and going back-and-forth with the manager for five minutes, she reluctantly said she will cancel it. Of course, she was rude about it. I am genuinely disappointed in a company as big as the YMCA. I cannot believe the lack of customer service skills and the lack of training that occurs in their facilities. Somebody higher up needs to step in and make some changes! read more

This place is great. Good selection of equipment and it's clean. Their hours are terrible though. Closed after 3 on Saturday and all day on Sunday. They also have the worst hack squat machine I've ever seen haha but overall I am very impressed. read more

Joined this past week and have had some good and some negative experiences. It is close and it has lots of wonderful places to work out. It is crowded and there is a child care on the premises as well. Some children screeching in the pool and child care areas need to be more controlled. Why do all little girls find it so fun to screech and parents find it hard to stop them? I also am flummoxed as to why they have to close so early on Friday nights? I like 9:30 facility close with pool closing at 9 as it is why I joined. Oh well, nothing is perfect. Overall a great environment and only wish they had a little cafe there with fruit and nuts and smoothies etc. Would be a nice finish to a long workout. Would like Tai Chi classes and also Kenpo Karate or Qi Jong, judo is cool, but not for seniors. read more

I absolutely love this Y. It is the Taj Mahal of all YMCA's in my opinion. They offer a wide variety of adult and children classes, a beautiful swimming pool and the best running track I have seen in comparison to the many others. I really appreciate the fact that in the swimming pool area include numerous places for adults to sit while the kids have classes or just participate in free swim. When I went to Puyallup last Sunday, I could barely believe there are virtually no places to sit, so thank you for making the pool area user friendly and the, 'You are welcome type feel.' Very clean and the staff are helpful and friendly. Fantastic instructors who are fun, knowledgeable, and encouraging. Love the location! The only reason why I am giving this establishment 4 stars versus 5 is that they do not offer even one time slot for evening pickleball. There are many people who just cannot be at the Y in the early morning or afternoon, which is very unfortunate for them. read more

Still getting used to the Y, but always find what I need when I go! Love the rope pull and stair climber. Wish there were more classes offered later (6pm or later) since I don't get off work until at least 5pm and it's nearly impossible to make the 5:45 classes. Very very dissatisfied with the Y. The front desk is never able to answer just basic questions. I wanted to know what the kid's classes involve... Can't get an answer out of 3 or 4 people. I was being charged the wrong amount because they set up my account wrong. The MOST frustrating part is signing up for classes though!! The system freezes and crashed. I go directly to the directors and maybe get 1 email response and then takes another day to respond so then every class continues to fill up and is on a wait list. I've been trying for almost 2 weeks to figure out my daughter's class schedule with very very little help. I'm extremely upset and cant figure out who can help me!!!! read more

Beautiful building and location with great parking. We love the pool and lazy river. My daughter loves her art classes and my son loves his swim class. I have a hard time working out myself because of the acoustics in the building, particularly the sounds of children yelling and crying in the nursery that echoes through the whole building. Even with my head phones in I can still hear it. Not anyone but the architect and building designer's. fault. I'd love a quiet room with weights and cardio equipment that would give my mom-brain and ears the respite they need. read more

Walked in here with my baby looking to sign up based on income.. so I guess it's called financial assistance. I was getting cut in line but then these nice people asked me if I was first and I went up to the lady at the counter and first she gave me the dirtiest look like I had just jumped in line and I had to tell her I was sitting down because I have a baby with me. She said "oh" Then she was super rude when I asked to sign up based on income and then she hands me the paper and that was it. No thanks or smile or anything. Just crazy the first time I walk in there and got the worst customer service ever. I've never been so embarrassed in my life. And I have two other kids too that I wanted to bring. read more

Great place for everyone to have fun and relax. My only complaint would be the staff. When asking questions, so far my luck is 50/50 for an employee having/knowing the answer. I suggest a bi-weekly training/update session for employees. Also, the lifeguards severely need some etiquette. Why would I want to let my child or myself swim there when I hear 2 lifeguards chatting about how their years as a lifeguard and working at the YMCA are wasted. Never have I ever been treated more poorly from a customer service representative than when I was "helped" by Tiffany Stewart-Harris the senior membership service director for this branch. She belittled me and essentially called me a liar more than once. This is not customer service. We've been members of this YMCA for a year and a half and after one phone conversation with this woman I am not sure that we will be back. This is sad because this YMCA has great teachers for the toddler classes and a beautiful facility we attended multiple times a week and have loved it. However I don't feel comfortable being apart of a business that treats its members so poorly we will be looking into the puyallup branch. read more

So dirty and disgusting every time I go. I have asked multiple time for people to do their job and clean the globs of hair and dust from the machines and all the staff ignores it. Here's an idea ! Get off your phone stop standing around gossiping and do some good ol fashion wipe down! Brand new facility! This is the first Y I've been a member at and I'm so glad I chose to come here. So many options for equipment and classes! The membership counter is always there to greet you with a smile, answer any questions and say a friendly goodbye as you walk out the door. The downfall is how full it can get. Being brand new and a new year, a lot of people have signed up. Monday nights are the worst as far as weights go. The classes are usually full, but not enough to the point where you can move around. Parking can get a little crazy too, be prepared to do a little walking if you're in the wayyyy back! But hey...it's a good warm up, right? I recommend doing Barre, TRX and Kickboxing! Those are 3 fantastic classes that really work you! Most classes are included with your membership. The pool is also brand new (opened later after the facility opened). There's a lap pool, activity pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna! 3 basketball courts, rock climbing wall, arts and teen centers, a walk/jog/run track that circles the entire gym, and a nursery/child watch center. All schedules are posted on the website, you can look at upcoming classes while you're at the gym and print them off or you can download their app for your phone! Honestly, you get a bang for your buck! Signing up is super easy, financial assistance is available and it's all month to month. Tours are available anytime! My family and I have been off and on members of the gym over the past 4 or 5 years but I don't think it will last long for my part of membership. My biggest issues are hours of operation and size of the free weights/upper body area (on left when you first walk in). They should have a free weight area 3x the size of the current one for all of the demand. An attempted workout consists of spending more energy and time trying to scope out the equipment you want to use so you can beat someone to it. Hard to feel like you had a thorough workout when you have no consistent flow. I often end up going upstairs to find anything that has little demand, but get little satisfaction. If the gym opened earlier and closed later that could alleviate some of this issue. Having the option to workout in off-peak times would be huge (meaning like 5am or 9pm). read more

We came here to swim several times during our visit in Washington. The pool is a lot bigger and better than the ymca in Lakewood. The kids had fun and it wasn't over crowded. They also had a teen room my son was able to play in, he even made a friend there for the day. The only thing I didn't like was some of the staff such as front desk and life guards, they weren't as inviting. Despite that we'd come back next time in Washington. Suggestion: wish they had a wk pass you could buy for visitors of another state. For a family of 4 we could have paid for a months membership for our 2 wks visit here read more

Inconsistency with enforcement of rules. Especially when it comes to minors. A lot of assumption of age and not actually following their own stated rules. Swim lessons are poor at best. Variety of classes offered in the late afternoons/early evening or mornings for working families is low. We left the Y and decided later to give them another chance and sign up again. I was really excited to join to have a place to swim laps and attend some of the many programs they advertised. Unfortunately this facility could care less about retirement age members, they cater only to families, and all the programs were designed for kids or young adults. The pool was always very crowded, and no designated adults-only swim times. The constant screaming of little kids in the pool and locker room was not conducive to a pleasant lap swim. I asked to speak to the manager about the disappointing lack of programs for anyone over 50 and she showed zero interest in talking to me about it. Another reviewer mentioned ageism and I completely agree, this facility does not welcome older adult members. read more

This is probably my least favorite Ymca in the state of Washington. Horrible customer service from Ms. Andraeas the director of that branch she banned my son and his friends for an altercation a couple months back, and still has not reinstated our membership, after countless talks with her it is shown that she is not well fit to manage that facility. we've been members since 1999 and it seems like doesn't mean anything anymore. I will never set foot in that YMCA and this has given the YMCA a bad name in our books. All of my friends and family all go to that YMCA and I'm going to have to spread word that the YMCA is not like how it use to be with a caring atmosphere to better the community and it's people, it feels like it's more about taking ones money nowadays. UPDATE: Since leaving my first review I fell in love with this place (changed my 4 star to a 5). I just moved out of state and will miss this place so much! I especially want to recognize one specific employee...her name is Kim M. and she teaches multiple classes here. I went out of state for two weeks and when I came back and walked into the fitness room she personally welcomed me back and said she missed me. That right there is not only great customer service but a truly awesome person. I'm not new to working out but was new to fitness classes. She explains everything and is so encouraging! Never makes you feel stupid for not keeping up but instead tells you what a great job you're doing then demonstrates so you can see how to fix your mistake! She makes you feel like an important person and makes you want to try harder to reach your goals. What I can do now vs. day one is incredible! I will really miss her! ~~~ I love coming here. I wanted a gym that wasn't full of meatheads and people just looking to show off and flirt and this place is perfect. So family friendly! So many classes to choose from and if you're unsure of what you're doing or what you need you can always ask and people are kind and more than willing to help. The people at the front desk are always so nice when you come in, too! The facility is clean and top of the line. read more
