This is one of the best resort hotels in Maine and all of New England for that matter. Impeccable service, beautiful lobby and guest rooms and outstanding food in both the Tiller (their more upscale eatery) and the Nubb which is their excellent rendition of a lobster/clam beach bar. We had a minor issue with the heating nothin our original king ocean view room, they were so great and upgraded us to an enormous suite with complimentary snacks and soft drinks. We booked massages, Liz had Logan and she loved the massage. I had Jeffrey who was closer to a physical therapist than a masseuse. He addressed all of my problem areas, just phenomenal in every respect. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and it was clear that these folks know a thing or two about hospitality!

Park: valet is great but they also have a huge lot for self parking Staff: very friendly and attentive Decor: very vibrant with the beach colors but not over the top and more well placed neutrals that compliment each other well Rooms: very nice and presented well...though if you are in the area for work, there are no desks or working areas in the rooms which made things more difficult Dining: a few options all well presented and nice with heat lamps outside for the chilly fall evenings Overall: very nice beach front hotel but for me, a few things that just didn't work for me. The room keys are bracelets and you have to have it right up against the lock to work making it difficult to actually get into my room. Secondly, if they put you in one wing, it's a bit of a walk outside to get to your room and it's not a smooth walk so with baggage, it can be a touch aggravating. Keep in mind, when you want to go to the lobby or eat, it's the trek back to the main building The pricing is not for the average guest either so be prepared to shell out bank!

French white wine usually doesn't disappoint!

Stopped by Cliff House on a recent trip and I'm so glad I did. I started off with a glass of French white wine at the bar (don't ask me which kind.... I wish I remembered, because it was perfect), soaked in the view of the magnificent ocean(we said that it would probably be spectacular view if there was a storm... **HINT), then left... only to come back later that evening for Manhattans and apps. That's how good the vibe was. The atmosphere was lively with live music playing just outside the restaurant in the hotel lounge area, creating an upscale kind of energy. The view of the ocean from the bar is absolutely unbeatable, again, definitely one of the highlights. Service was great, super attentive but not overbearing. Attached is a shot from earlier that day.. wine, snacks, and ocean views. Safe to say Cliff House is a must whether you're staying there or just swinging by for a drink and a bite.

Beautiful views. Fresh oysters. Delicious drinks. The hotel is a beautiful spot for drinks and pictures on the cliff.

A relaxing retreat. We splurged on an oceanfront cliff room, and it was absolutely worth it. The stunning views of the cliffs and the soothing sound of crashing waves all day made the experience unforgettable. The adult pool area is a unique oasis--everyone was quietly napping or unwinding. The pool attendants are attentive, setting you up with a chair cover and towel. There's no loud music or disruptive conversations, making it a perfect spot to relax. The 13+ age restriction is a great touch, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere, while kids can enjoy their own separate pool. A thoughtful hydration station is available on every floor, offering water and Keurig coffee, which is a nice perk. While it is on the pricier side, as most resorts are, sometimes you truly get what you pay for.

10/10 experience staying The Cliffhouse. Beautiful and clean, very friendly and accommodating staff, delicious food and amazing experience. The Tiller and Nubbs serve up the best lobster roll you'll ever have. Enjoy the pool and hot tub overlooking the ocean. The spa was a very relaxing experience. I highly recommend visiting here on your next Maine stay!

Location was idyllic - right out of a good hallmark movie! Went up to explore the fall foliage and was not disappointed with our stay... prices are a bit steep and would expect a little more guest pampering/service to get a higher review - checkin could have been more streamlined (lots of folks training it seems?). Restaurants on site were excellent. The location is perfect for getting out and exploring the local towns. Valet parking was good but extra expense... rooms are spread out along location. Views are impeccable and there is a great walking trail down to the rocks. Beautiful outdoor fire pit. Worth a weekend once

Beautiful room and amazing ocean view! Love free drinks bar in the hallway. Restaurants were great too. Breakfast on the balcony was delicious. For a very expensive place to stay, I would expect the wifi to work, but it wasn't anywhere inside the building so you can't really do work if needed.

Cliff House is truly an incredible getaway. First of all, the maid service is amazing-our room was cleaned every time we left it and we came back to small details like chocolates being left for us every time! We had a couple's massage and I would highly recommend booking with Jeffrey, he was an amazing and very thorough masseuse. Lisa at the Tiller was a fantastic waitress. This place is stunning and truly a slice of heaven.

View of the hotel from nearby rocks you can walk down to.

The drive to Plumb Island through Newburyport was the perfect introduction to our romantic, north shore getaway. Being from Phoenix, we look forward to our cold, winter adventure each year and neither of us had been anywhere north of Boston before. Before our arrival, communication with the Blue was informative and hand a personal feel. Obviously, the Blue caters to summer beach-goers, and the reserved parking area near the hotel would definitely be a huge plus for folks competing for parking spots, but in winter, there are very few people or cars on the entire island. The Blue is a quaint little hotel nestled on the beach in a neighborhood of New England beach homes. We were happily greeted at the front desk by Blue staff and the General Manager. They tendered to our every need and surprised us with a fabulous fruit and chocolate anniversary gift waiting for us in the room. The room was beautiful with a classic and modern beach feel. Sliding glass doors open up to a wooden deck with a fabulous view of the Atlantic Ocean. We could hear the crashing waves while sitting inside beside the gas fireplace to read. It was magical! Also magical was the bed! We haven't slept that well in years! The bed was so comfortable and my wife loved the pillows so much that she bought the very same ones for home the day we returned. And don't forget the two hot tubs! There is nothing quite as enjoyable as relaxing in a steaming, bubbling hot tub while it's snowing all around you. Honestly, the "hot tubs available" filter was probably what highlighted the Blue to me during my search for this trip. One hot tub is on the second floor deck, overlooking the beach and the second is hidden under the pine trees at the end of a short sidewalk across the street from the main building. Both were large enough for probably 6 people, clean and well maintained. Again, it was February so we had them all to our crazy selves the whole week. The beach is beautiful! There is direct, private access from the second floor of the Blue, via a wooden boardwalk. The beach is sandy with very few rocks. I didn't see any seaweed or anything washing up on shore, but it was February, so I didn't expect to see a whole lot of anything living coming out of the water. Every morning we enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over the ocean while we drank some local coffee delivered direct to the room. Oh yeah, breakfast! Each morning the staff dropped off and adorable wicker basket with fresh, local breakfast offerings plus that wonderful carafe of coffee. We had different breakfast each day, to include quiche, overnight oats, fresh fruit, biscuits, and bacon. Just the right amount for the two of us and we couldn't wait to see what breakfast surprise would arrive each morning. Although Plumb Island may feel remote from the business of the Boston-metro area, the location was great for dipping down to Salem without hitting any traffic, or popping up to New Hampshire for a sleighride through the forest. One morning, after a small nor'easter blew through, our SUV got stuck in the parking lot snow. No worries! The General Manager of the Blue came out to hail down a plow and personally helped push us out. Now that's service! Overall, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Blue -Inn on the Beach to anyone looking for a romantic beach getaway. If you're looking for a less Metropolitan vacation with the proximity to get to Boston in under an hour, the Blue can't be beat. We will definitely be coming back. Maybe even in the summer next time!

THIS REVIEW IS ON ROOM 109. Just $20 more per night for a nice fireplaced room. NOTE, photos online are VERY deceiving and we were greatly disappointed in our room. It was so small. Room was pie shaped, located near the elevator and 2 entry doors. So the room was noisy and the pie shaped room made the room VERY small compared to other rooms that we have stayed in on the 2nd floor over the past 29 years. The room is marketed as newly renovated ‍. Yes they have nice tile floors which were absolutely freezing even with the fireplace on (it has a one hour timer) and the ceiling tiles have been replaced. They could definitely do away with the massage chair in the corner and place another arm chair. Just the 2 of us and there was just one comfortable arm chair and a desk chair (and a metal filing chair if you decided to use it). The king size bed did fill the room. The bathroom was a mere 4'x8' with just under 3' in the toilet area and just 2 feet from the tub to sink. They only had one small 3 drawer dresser (each drawer was just 6" deep). Needless to say the two of us had to live out of our bags due to lack of space for our winter clothing (14° or less outside). Don't know if we were near some sort of drain because all night long you could hear water either being flushed or running. I HIGHLY recommend Lafayette Oceanfront resort but do not wast your money on a fireplaced room. We have been coming here for 29 years and hope to be coming here for another 20+ years

Even better, you're adjacent to the Casino Ballroom. It was cool to check out the tour buses arriving as we walked to breakfast. We stayed here for a show and it was convenient to be so close. Every interaction with the staff was helpful and pleasant - phone calls to in person! The price is on par with other spots in the area but here you get a parking spot, pool, and everything is clean and new. Over $550 for two nights is still outrageous, but that is life in 2022. Comfortable bed alert!! Both my husband and I had very restful sleeps (I'm a stomach sleeper and slept awesome!) The rooms were just was we needed although it would have been nice to have a small table and chairs in the room. There's a perfect space by the window in the room for that. 2 night minimum stay...so we made a beach weekend out of our concert night. We left saying, "if we ever come back let's stay here again".

There's black mold and wood rot on the interior door jam and molding from previous frequent flooding. There's moss and mold all over the deck as well as a broken/missing light fixture with exposed wires and broken deck boards. The ceiling fan is covered in dust. The shower head is filthy with some gross substance caked-up on it. The bathroom wall is also cracked with chipped paint and the counter top caulking has failed over time and needs to be redone.
