We had a lovely stay at Cliff House. We stayed 3 nights there and had a wonderful time. Check-in was easy and the front desk team member was friendly and helpful. The lobby has beautiful decor and the view over the cliff is fantastic. Every floor has a Maine Station- which includes a coffee station, 3 water options, and some fruit. Our room was spectacular and had a view over the cliff. It was not warm outside so unfortunately we weren't able to use the outside pools. For what I could tell there are 2 outdoor pools, one indoor pool and a larger hot tub. There seems to be a lot of weddings there. I believe like 3-4 a weekend. The grounds were very well cared for and there were different activities throughout the day you could participate in. The location is a little remote which is nice, but hard to explore being that it was our first time in Maine. The food was pretty good for the most part. We liked the food better at The Tiller than Nubb's. The drinks are really tasty, but can get spendy. We overall really enjoyed our visit and stay at Cliff House. Rating would be 4.25 read more

Great place to spend a getaway as you want it, quiet, or on the go! Pro's, you don't have to leave the property once you arrive. It's all there, for the kids, to adults. Nice views, great staff, grounds meticulously maintained. I will go back for sure. If you find yourself bored, I played humpback whale calls off my balcony late at night, I found a dozen or so people coming out of the hotel looking feverishly for any signs of one. I was very disappointed with my stay at The Cliff House. This was supposed to be a special girls trip for Mother's Day, and we chose this hotel expecting a relaxing and memorable experience, but unfortunately it turned out to be extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, it was apparent that the hotel's service has gone downhill. There were only two bellmen working while a wedding party was also arriving, and they seemed completely overwhelmed. As guests, we felt pushed aside and ignored from the very beginning of our stay. The property overall appeared to be understaffed, as service throughout the stay was consistently slow. The restaurant experience was especially frustrating -- it took a long time to receive service, and the food was underwhelming and not worth the price. To add to injury, the air conditioning in my room was not working properly, which made the stay slightly uncomfortable. We chose to wait until checkout to report these issues because we did not want to spend the trip complaining or dealing with maintenance during our stay. However, when we approached the manager Sarah about our concerns, instead of addressing them professionally, she became defensive, repeatedly insisting that we should have reported everything immediately instead of waiting until checkout. She also insisted the because they are a hotel of high caliber they were fully staffed even with the wedding happening and spoke in a demeaning manner, which only added to our frustration. For a hotel that markets itself as luxury, the level of service, professionalism, and hospitality fell far below expectations. Sadly, this experience has made me question whether I would want to return to this hotel again in the future. I do want to mention that we had a positive experience with front desk concierge Tae. The service was fun and attentive. Look at the generous portions in the photos. The only negative is that the glass barrier and no fans outside keep it stifling hot on a muggy day. The room keys are bracelets and you have to have it right up against the lock to work making it difficult to actually get into my room. Secondly, if they put you in one wing, it's a bit of a walk outside to get to your room and it's not a smooth walk so with baggage, it can be a touch aggravating. This is one of the best resort hotels in Maine and all of New England for that matter. Impeccable service, beautiful lobby and guest rooms and outstanding food in both the Tiller (their more upscale eatery) and the Nubb which is their excellent rendition of a lobster/clam beach bar. We had a minor issue with the heating nothin our original king ocean view room, they were so great and upgraded us to an enormous suite with complimentary snacks and soft drinks. We booked massages, Liz had Logan and she loved the massage. I had Jeffrey who was closer to a physical therapist than a masseuse. He addressed all of my problem areas, just phenomenal in every respect. Beautifully appointed and clean hotel on top of a cliff with the dramatic waves crashing! The hotel GM Nancy was so nice and personable. After finding out we were there for my birthday, she sent a thoughtful gift to our room. Nubbs and Tiller were great for dinner options. I loved the pool and jacuzzi. Views were amazing all around. Great Views.... Great food... Flew in for a weekend trip with wife and toddler and it was amazing for the most part. Absolutely gorgeous scenery augmented by its proximity to a few small towns. Go in the off season. (Google if uncertain) and you will deal with less crowds. The outdoor pool will be closed, but hey... you can get that anywhere. At cliff house, you will spend hours listening to the water crash against the rocks. Only complaint.... Theater was closed and Not the most kid friendly. Not bad, just had nothing there for little ones. Also... hot tub regulation was non existent. Get in where you fit in. The energy you take with you will determine the experience you have. .. Stopped by Cliff House on a recent trip and I'm so glad I did. I started off with a glass of French white wine at the bar (don't ask me which kind.... I wish I remembered, because it was perfect), soaked in the view of the magnificent ocean(we said that it would probably be spectacular view if there was a storm... **HINT), then left... only to come back later that evening for Manhattans and apps. That's how good the vibe was. The atmosphere was lively with live music playing just outside the restaurant in the hotel lounge area, creating an upscale kind of energy. The view of the ocean from the bar is absolutely unbeatable, again, definitely one of the highlights. Service was great, super attentive but not overbearing. I was looking forward to a bubble bath. Also no grab bars in showers. No ice in designated areas. Chill fridge wasn't working properly. Coffee, Tea station wasn't working. Room heater kept going off every 10 minutes at night & sounded like a large truck. & most of all charged us about $200 a night more than what we agreed on. Didn't know that until we checked out at front desk. A manager was supposed to call me back to help resolve the problem, but of course no call yet. The views are spectacular! We enjoyed walking the property and sitting on our balcony each morning drinking our coffee in our fabulous robes. The sunrises are spectacular. The staff was so nice and very respectful. The cost is on the higher end but it was a special trip and worth the splurge for us. We did not use the valet & self parked - it was a bit of a trek with our bags (that's on us!). Unfortunately, we did not use the spa. The restaurants were not my favorite but the bar was great! Went up to explore the fall foliage and was not disappointed with our stay... prices are a bit steep and would expect a little more guest pampering/service to get a higher review - checkin could have been more streamlined (lots of folks training it seems?). Although it is just a 40 minute drive up the beautiful coast of Maine for me I always feel as though I'm stepping off of a luxurious private jet when I step foot on the entrance to the cliff house. It is the professionalism poise, and sincerity that is shown to you by every staff member from housekeeping to event manager. Mary Ryan was a name in particular that I would have to highly recommend to assist you in making your experience one you won't soon forget. She was nothing short of a Fairy Godmother who which a flick of her wand had the ability to make you feel like royalty. From stocking your fridge with your favorite beverages and snacks, to scheduling activities for the kids throughout the day...her expertise is personalized to your interests to ensure your stay is made uniquely special to you. Each recommendation she provided from morning coffee to dinner cocktails was everything and anything I could have hoped for. A few days with her itinerary suggestions will have you feeling like a 2 week vacation in 48 hours. There isn't a hallway you could walk down without being greeted with a smile and friendly hello from staff, or a drink you could order without being remembered by name and cocktail of choice during your stay. We booked the cliff house to see the fall colors. The reviews were mixed, but it looked beautiful, so we decided to keep the reservation. The area is stunning and driving around in this area, you get the whole new England experience. The quaint town of Ogunquit is close by. The rooms for us were clean and the balcony was amazing. We kept our doors open all night to enjoy the white noise of the waves. The spa was very nice and enjoyed the sanctuary area when people weren't talking. The jacuzzi outside had great views and we were able to enjoy the pool as a "cold plunge" of sorts. We also enjoyed the beautiful rocks to sit and listen to the waves, or do a bit of yoga. The beverage center in each way was genius. What we didn't like was the lack of activities or even long walking trails in the area. We didn't even attempt to eat at the restaurants here because of what reviewers said. It was also super irritating to not have all sections connected, ie, as people mentioned, you are at the pool and they had the passageway closed. There was no link from the spa to the pool and you had to walk all the way around. It was a weird set up. Our first day, I called for housekeeping since it was after 330 pm and they hadn't come by, and we had to call twice to have a few items dropped off. Each day we called to make sure they came by when we would be out of the room. It seems like a spot like this shouldn't have those issues. read more

Recently spent three fantastic nights at the Cliff House in Maine! The concierge staff went above and beyond to make our stay amazing! The views alone, coupled with the sounds of the crashing of the waves makes the trip worthwhile, but adding in the amenities, outstanding dinners, and relaxing spa visits, really made it perfect! It is definitely on the pricey side, but well worth it as far as we were concerned. My only critique (being a bartender) were the drinks...while tasty, the drinks were skimpy. We ordered Cosmopolitans with the "dirty rocks" on the side, and they were very short every time!! Only once did I actually see the bartender use the "dirty rocks" every other bartender just scooped some ice into a cup. Maybe they are not familiar with the "dirty rocks" term, or they just didn't care? They should either use smaller glasses or be a little more generous with the pours (especially for the price - a Titos cosmo was $18.00 with an automatic 20% gratuity included in each drink = $21.60! Those can add up fast especially when they were probably only 6oz. Also, the outdoor heated salt water pool was something we were really looking forward to using. When we went out to check it out we realized why it was empty, it was freezing!!! I asked the concierge what the temp of the pool was and he said they keep it between 80 and 85 degrees...there was no way it was that temp. I put my feet in and could barely stand it for 3 seconds...at NO time during out stay did I see anyone in that pool, and that was a shame. It really would have been awesome to experience that. They should either crank up the heat, or close the pool for the winter. read more

Came in the fall. Beautiful ocean views from everywhere in the hotel. Service is impeccable, at the restaurants and in the reception. The food was very nice, we had brunch and couple of days and dinner one if the nights we stayed there. My only criticism to the food is that the dinner menu was limited, but everything we ordered tasted good. One night they had live music at the lounge area, while we were having drinks and playing board games. Used the hot tub which oversees the ocean. Rooms are very spacious. I did notice some of the paint chipping off on the bathroom wall as others commented in their reviews. Nothing major. Will come back, there was so much more to do that we didn't try it all. read more

Cold water in our hotel bathroom room...NO hot water....front desk personnel AND hotel management with knowledge of no hot water situation in our room allowed it to happen...to be put into a room with NO hot water and wait for us to call the front desk MULTIPLE times to find out what is wrong...we were told that hotel management was making arrangements for us to use the fitness center to get a hot shower...we even asked the folks who were in the room next to us if they were out of hot water and they told me that they had been out of hot water for two days and were using the fitness center to shower...I told the front desk that I was not going to pay $500 a night for our room to only walk a good distance to get a hot shower and we needed to be moved into a room that provided hot water or we are leaving and want a refund...it took a couple hours for hotel management to get us a comparable room at the same price but eventually we did get a room with hot water...only took 5 hours from check in time to get a room with hot water...unbelievable for a 4 star hotel...when hotel management AND the front desk KNEW they were putting us into a room with no hot water...unbelievable!! read more

My husband, children, and I stayed at Cliff House for two nights last weekend. Unfortunately, our experience at Tiller's and the Terrace left us extremely disappointed. When my husband asked the Tiller's manager about the best time to go to the Terrace (which is first come, first serve), the manager responded with, "I'm not playing any games with you." This was shockingly rude and unprofessional. We did get a table at the Terrace thanks to a kind hostess, and our server was attentive. However, we waited two hours for our entrées with three young children. Only after a higher manager intervened did our food finally arrive, and the meal was comped -- a kind gesture, but it didn't erase the poor service. Sadly, the same manager then made a passive-aggressive remark to my husband: "Hope you enjoyed the meal on us." Completely inappropriate and disrespectful. For a resort of this caliber, the lack of professionalism and basic hospitality from management was unacceptable. read more

My husband and I just had a fantastic honeymoon at Cliff House! I think we possibly picked the best weekend to visit - most of the time, we had the pool or hot tub to ourselves! We splurged on an ocean view room and it was seriously breath taking. We saw some stunning sunrises and sunsets right from the comfort of our balcony! This was truly one of the best resorts I've visited, even better than some on the islands. We had a great dinner at The Tiller our first night there (visit their specific page for my full review on them), and we appreciated the staff's attention to detail welcoming us to our honeymoon. Our room was clean and we loved the nightly turn down service and daily treats left for us. They went above and beyond, even folding our clothes! If I had one critique, the AC vent was directly across from my side of the bed and it was FREEZING! We had it set to 68 the first night and it never shut off once and was also quite noisy. If you turned it to anything above 68, the heat kicked on and that wasn't comfortable either. Eventually we found it was better to just shut the AC off completely at night, which made for a quieter night anyways, and you could hear the waves crashing if you went on the balcony with it off. The two outdoor pools and hot tubs were very clean and were always at a perfect temperature. We had lunch from Nubb's one day by the pool and it was just what we needed. Though we left the resort to explore the local cuisine a lot, you definitely could spend your whole vacation at the resort without having to leave before of their numerous amenities. We definitely hope to return someday and are so grateful we found this spot for our honeymoon! read more

Summary: My wife and I stayed here for four days and while the views were gorgeous and the service great, for close to 1k a night we feel it did not meet expectations in the cleanliness department. We would recommend staying elsewhere and visiting the restaurant if you want to enjoy the views. Pros: Service - everyone was friendly and accommodating Food - breakfast at the Tiller and ice cream at Nubb's were highlights Views - incredible, this is what you're paying for Spa - a bit crowded (especially the locker area) but overall worth the splurge. The sanctuary room is gorgeous and the therapists did an excellent job with our massages Cons: Cleanliness - for the price, I expect a certain standard of cleanliness and upkeep. Our bathroom paint was peeling and cracked near the sink, the patio off our room looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile, there were stains on the ottoman, some of the leather furniture in the lobby was cracked and appeared dirty, and the indoor pool looked like it needed a good scrub. Other reviewers posted pictures of the grime and we can say those pics are accurate. We stayed at a Holiday Inn in NH last year and the pool there was SO much nicer and cleaner. -The ramp leading from the outdoor pool section to the lobby was closed off necessitating walking the long way around anytime we wanted to get to our room from the pool area. This may not seem like a big deal, but with a pregnant wife, it added up to a lot of discomfort for her over the course of the week. read more

There's a reason The Cliff House receives so many 5 star reviews: it's awesome from start to finish. The hotel is spotless, the attention to detail amazing (in room air purifiers weren't lost on me!), the views astounding and the overall ocean chic vibe is wonderful! We stayed two nights in the dead of winter in late January and enjoyed two stunning sunrises and the bonus of a bright sunny unseasonably warm days! Our room was located in the Ledges wing ( best for sunrise over the ocean). We arrived several hours before checkin and our room was ready( big points here). Self parking was the only option and it can be a haul with luggage so we used a bellman (shout out to Victor) who was so welcoming and informative, giving us a few extra tips for an enjoyable first visit. Ledges is located farthest from reception , the awesome main gathering area with a wall of ocean front windows, a beautiful fireplace and many seating options to enjoy the view. An underground passage featuring photos of Cliffhouse through the years and a gallery of local art makes the trek easy especially in winter. There is a movie theatre tucked in the passage showing family rated movies twice a day. There is an indoor pool option as well as a year round large outdoor hot tub ( guests 13 and older) overlooking the ocean. The hot tub is busy... maybe too busy but you'll opt to give it a try for just the view alone. Robes and slippers are provided In each room. There are igloos overlooking the Atlantic near the hot tub as well as a large firepit with Adirondack gliders. In winter, dining options include the Tiller with its " killer" views and Nubbs, a more informal option as well as in room dining. We enjoyed cocktails at sunset in Tiller which also serves as the lobby bar and can get quite busy if hotel is busy. Weekend evenings, there is live music , a crowd pleasing duo this weekend featured a vocalist and guitarist playing hits from the late 60s-80s. Beds were comfy, shower pressure great and a " beverage station" located on each floor with tea, coffee, as well as still and sparking water(loved those tiny ice cubes). Staff throughout the hotel was first rate. The Cliff House is a fabulous choice for a special celebration (thanks for the birthday treats for my hubby) no matter what time of year! Winter rates are lower and some nights have no minimum stay required. We will be back! read more

There's something naturally romantic about staying at a hotel dramatically way up at the top of a cliff. And The Cliff House (Hotel) is exactly that. It's surrounded by an incredible ocean, jaw-dropping scenery that has to be seen to be believed. Grounds are immaculate, the hotel itself is modern with Nautical accents indoors. We didn't stay here during our short Ogunquit trip, but this clifftop hotel looks like it can dial up the romance factor to a ridiculously high level man- in my opinion. This place is huge. Surrounded by glass. Just glass- giving you the most intense view of the Atlantic. The hotel has nice style- not sure if housekeeping is taking care of all the dust perched up on their ceiling lamps by their elevators- but rooms seem elevated. FYI- Employees all wore masks and there are visible floor indicators throughout. Listen...with these reviews, I'm not sure if guests seem to find this hotel well worth its considerable price tag. Went the end of May, the views are awesome. Based upon its location there are excellent sunrise views but the sun does not set over the water. Food and drinks were good and priced at what would be expected for a resort of this type. I found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. Beds were comfortable. The bathroom had an exhaust vent but it was not working so fogged mirrors after showering. I would have given a rating of 4 but as you will see in many reviews the pools are under heated. Heated pools should be at temps of high 70s and into the 80s. The indoor and outdoor pools were not even close, thus no one in them. Hot tubs were perfect temps. read more
