We absolutely love the Norseman! We visit every year. The views are gorgeous. You can't beat the location being right on the beach, it is perfect for families especially young children who take frequent trips back to the room to change clothes, have snacks and use the bathroom. The upgraded rooms are great, For the most part the rooms have been very clean and comfortable. The staff has been friendly and accommodating. There's so much to do within walking distance lots of shops, restaurants and cafes. It's an ideal vacation spot. Our favorite place to visit! read more

Our second time at Norseman and I thought we'd "upgrade" to a Tidal Suite room this year after seeing Norseman's claims that the Tidal Suites are their "newest and most luxurious room." In reality our Tidal Suite room (411) was old, dirty, run-down and in disrepair. You enter into a sun-faded door in desperate need of a coat of stain. The screen on the patio door is ripped. There's black mold and wood rot on the interior door jam and molding from previous frequent flooding. There's moss and mold all over the deck as well as a broken/missing light fixture with exposed wires and broken deck boards. The ceiling fan is covered in dust. The shower head is filthy with some gross substance caked-up on it. The bathroom wall is also cracked with chipped paint and the counter top caulking has failed over time and needs to be redone. The pull out couch fabric is dirty and the mattress has large body fluid stain on it. There's an ant infestation in the bathroom and living room. We left early even though I was losing over $300 for that next day. I felt dirty staying in that room and couldn't wait to go home and shower. There is nothing new or luxurious about the Tidal Suite building. It was built in the early 2000's and hasn't received any routine maintenance, renovations or even a thorough cleaning since it's opening. read more

I went off-season and got a wonderful first-floor corner with views on two sides! It could not be beat. The patio door goes right out onto the ocean, and there is a private gate for the resort. Check-in was extremely fast and easy, and the resort even had a gift for our Anniversary! Super nice! It was easy to get around the resort area, and there was even an elevator to get your luggage up to the floors! Great sitting areas are available on the resort property. Again, we were off-season, so not everything was open. Our end unit was clean and had everything that you would need. We could not ask for a better spot on the ocean. This hotel is in an excellent location being right on the beach! Additionally, this hotel is surprisingly well priced for being on the beach, and so newly renovated. The rooms were clean, though the floors were a bit sandy, but that's to be expected at a beach hotel. One of the really cool things is that the showers have TVs in them! There is plenty of parking and the hotel lobby stays open 24 hours which is very nice. It is easy to walk to the town, so no need to bother with moving your vehicle from the hotel parking. read more

We just left this morning and are already planning a return trip! The remodeled Sundowner full-view king room was perfect as a home base for exploring Maine's southern coast. With the best imaginable view, reasonable rates, and a clean room with a microwave, refrigerator, and separate freezer, what's not to love? Well, there are couple of things not to love! The water pressure is very low and the pillows are like hockey pucks. I'll bring pillows next time and prepare to spend a lot of time rinsing my hair. We visited mid/late October, this was our second stay at The Norseman. Both visits we had rain on one of the days which made for a beautiful angry ocean. First, cannot beat the view and location. Last year we had rooms on the second floor, ocean front. The peaked ceilings made the rooms feel very large, floors carpeted. No overhang for sitting outside during rain. This year we were on the first floor, requested, since we anticipated rain and wanted to be able to sit outside. Our room was not carpeted (understandable b/c of sand!) It was nice to have a broom/dustpan to clean that up ourselves. Check-in was easy-peesy. It was nice to have a location close enough to walk into town and not deal with driving/parking. On the sunny beautiful day we were able to walk Marginal Way (don't miss), on the rainy day we visited Ogunquit Museum of American Art. Another don't miss on the ocean in a beautiful MCM building. We will definitely continue staying here annually on our Fall girls trip up the coast. read more

We stayed in the Tidal Suites after Labor Day and it was a magical experience. Everything in the suite was wonderful: comfy bed, huge private balcony, a fireplace, two big TVs, a nice little kitchen area with sink, fridge and microwave and the best hotel bathroom I've ever experienced. It had 6 shower heads and heated floors! No issues with hot water availability. Laying in bed under a fluffy comforter and watching the birds on the river was so relaxing and just what I needed. The location can't be beat. There are restaurants right by the hotel (including Splash where we had breakfast 3 days in a row), you can walk to town easily, and most importantly, the ocean is steps from anywhere at the hotel. If I had to quibble I would say that the pillows aren't very high quality, but otherwise this was a fantastic experience. Treat yourself! read more

Pros: LOCATION! Being right on the beach with a private entrance to the sand can't be beat, especially with small children who would rather be carried. Loved being able to come back to the room if we forgot anything or needed a break from the beach. Walking to Main Street was easy and fast for meals and even if we left via our car, we never had a problem finding a parking spot, even when coming back late in the evening. The staff are all friendly and welcoming with a smile. No one was ever rude to us and they always made sure we were happy. The TV was nice and the room had a Keurig, small fridge, and microwave. Cons: The rest of the room we had in the Sundowner building left much to be desired. The resort is a glorified motel. The bed was so uncomfortable, my back was sore and stiff every morning. The couch was stiff and uncomfortable to sit on. The room has carpet, which is weird for a beachside place where sand and moisture is always present. The bathroom was spacious but there was visible water damage. The fixtures in the shower all leaked and we had to wait forever for the hot water. Once, after a day at the beach, the hot water ran out halfway during my shower but after both our children showered so...oh well. My husband didn't get his shower though. The AC was so loud and would have false starts. Some nights I was afraid it would explode, it sounded like an airliner. The pool that was boasted as an amenity was located on the Aspinquid sister property and it was a very sad little pool. Tiny with visible damage in the lining, we did not feel comfortable at all. People went in with full clothes on without taking a cleansing shower beforehand as requested. We left after 20 minutes and went back to the beach. We paid a pretty penny to be right on the beach during the summer season and with that in mind, I expected more for our room. Because of this experience, we will never revisit this property or any of its sister properties again. read more

We just stayed at the Norseman resort in a king room with a side view of the beach. The room was comfortable and you can't beat the location. Splash restaurant had a great breakfast. If you like blueberry pancakes they are delicious here. We also used the kayaks available at the resort and Eric was really helpful in encouraging us to have a great experience. My first experience, they changed my room facing the ocean, to the River building in the back. When we arrived and I asked what the heck, they said sorry, the other rooms are booked, and that they didn't don't know what happened. We got a coupon for breakfast as an apology. I took it as a fluke. My second experience, I reserved a first-floor room on the water, and they decided to cancel it and give it to someone else who usually rents it for those weeks. Had I not inquired to check in, I would never have known we had zero reservation. Instead of canceling them, because we reserved it first, we're now put in a different building and floor. So far it seems like the Norseman booking team just does whatever it pleases and you can't count on the reservations you make with them. For the cost of a week there, this seems insane that you might show up and be in a totally different place than you reserved, like the last time we stayed. We'll see where we end up this time and update this review then. I am praying they make it right, this was a big deal for us, we wanted to make it our annual family vacation spot but now all I have is anxiety not knowing where we'll end up. read more

BAIT AND SWITCH at its finest!!! When we placed the reservation our first choice of ocean view was not available. The fellow suggested that we would be very happy with a room on the second floor with a partial ocean view as well as the river. We were disappointed but agreed. When we checked in there were no rooms on the second floor and no view of the ocean at all. Also when we were checking in the woman stated that there were no notes on the reservation for any request at all. The room we were given was room 118 and the view was dune bushes. And don't get me talking about the parking. God only knows where they park during the summer. After going thru the parking lot once we turned around and were able to snag a parking space right off the street making it necessary to drag our suitcases thru two parking lots. Also have any of you ever heard of a reserved handicap parking space? I have had a tag for over 25 years this was a first, as I began to pull into a handicap spot a guy began honking is horn and waving for me to leave the spot. When I saw the sign on top of the handicap sign I put my car in reverse to leave HIS SPOT and by then he was out of his car yelling. We were afraid to leave the parking lot because we weren't sure that we would find one on our return. Now about the room. We had to fight with the screen on the slider every time we went in and out. The bathroom was great newly renovated but we used our extra towels to wipe up the water on the floor that leaked out when we used the shower. At $400.00 per night, off season mind youI expected better!! Oh I gave them a one because we had breakfast at Splash. Very good food and staff was great too. read more

We went back this winter for a quick stay and learned that they installed an elevator. Not only that, but they did it really well, with a heated elevator lobby and push-button electric doors. Now, the second floor is accessible to people like us with mobility issues. It is a very classy improvement to what was already a great place to stay. read more

As advertised. The online pictures shown of the Norseman Resort Hotel are very accurate and forthright. We had a Portside room on the top floor with an indirect view of the ocean. So close to the beach that you could smell and feel the salt air. Post-Labor Day but, still in September. Two queen beds, a/c, mini fridge and big screen (65-inch?) tv, very comfortable/casual. Walking distance into town of about a half mile. Don't expect to find an Uber here as they are very rare. No good Public or otherwise Transportation, the Ogunquit trolley stops running on Labor Day. Parking is an issue in town and hard to find. An electric bike or Vespa might just be the best way to get around! Be prepared to walk! A handful of good restaurants here. We would recommend and return to visit. read more

Came in off-season early April so the hotel was fairly empty. The resort is beautifully situation ON the ocean with rooms opening to the beach. Just lovely. The room was clean and comfortable. It had plenty of electric plug-ins. My one complaint that reduced my stars by 1 - the room had no dead bolt or slide bolt. As a single woman traveling, I like to feel secure. There was also no bar on the sliding glass door to the ocean; for security sake, I had to lock the doors at night locking out the ocean. I was going to stay two nights but had to change plans, but they do not grant refunds so ensure you have your dates nailed down before reserving. The restaurant, Splash, was fantastic! I had lunch a wonderful shrimp caesar salad which was delicious! And the breakfast included in your reservation is not a single muffin, but I had pancakes and bacon (fabulous by the way)! They have a list of about 6 selections you can choose from! Overall a really nice resort to enjoy the ocean. read more

We come to Ogunquit at least 4/5 times a year during the off season and in season, we typically stay at the Anchorage or The Colonial. We have small children so we wanted something more for a family didn't need anything "fancy".We knew this stay would be a bit different in the sense of not being a "4 star place" but again we thought it would be perfect for our family due to the location and views. Realistically when we come we just need a comfortable, clean place to sleep since we're never in the room. Unfortunately we won't be back due to the cleanliness of this place. We had checked in around 3pm but right away got to exploring and didn't even stop into the room until about 10pm. Our room had sand upon arrival ( yes I realize it's on the beach but it should've been vacuumed before we checked in) as we walked through the bathroom was disgusting with hair in it and there was mold forming on the shower and outside the shower. It was clear that it was "quickly" organized because I can't even say cleaned. On the bathroom floor there was women's hair and just filth around the toilet bowl and floor. Ive never been to a hotel where I paid $1,300 to stay and it be so DISGUSTING. I ended up having to go down to the front desk after checking around to other places we stay to see if they had any vacancies but everything was booked. I showed the front desk pictures of the condition of the room where the lady could barely believe it. She sent a very nice man who was extremely kind and very apologetic. He couldn't believe the condition of the room either and immediately started bleaching everything for us. It's now 11pm and my children still couldn't go to bed after a long day because the room was being cleaned, I went to turn the AC on and the filter was busted causing the AC to barely blow out anything- again the nice man helped with that as well. The safe in the room was also busted, due to the time of night he had no repair for it but we assured him not to worry, we would valuables in our car. It was just a disaster. We felt horrible that a maintenance person who fixes things had to clean a hotel room. He never complained but clearly was bothered. We are very grateful for him. The next morning it was a bit difficult getting through to the hotel manager, when I finally did I explained everything. I offered to show her pictures but she said it wasn't needed ( I found that a bit strange). After about a 20 minute conversation she offered us a $100 gift card to a well known restaurant and thanked us for visiting the hotel and told us to give her a call if anything else. I had mixed emotions on this but I was really done with this consuming my vacation time. I understand the summer is a very busy time but I just don't understand how something like this could happen. I hope they fix their cleaning issues as I think this place has potential, we just simply don't plan to be back. read more

If you can get one of the rooms in the front, right on the beach, it might just be the best place to stay in Oqunquit. If you're looking for proximity to the beach that is. This might still be the only hotel on the beach in Ogunquit. Definitely not a fancy place, but steps from the sand, we stayed here when I was younger and always had a fabulous time. The Norseman is right in the heart of Ogunquit Beach and there's plenty of things within walking distance. There's a couples shop and restaurants right there too. And the trolley stop for the beach is across the street. But the best thing is that the beach is right out front. read more

If you're looking for the only hotel on the beach in Ogunquit this is the place. It is not luxurious but it is very clean, our room was updated (no gross green carpet like in other's photos) you are literally steps off the beach and have areas with tables and lounge chairs right outside of your door on the patio. All of the other guests were courteous and many with kids/families. I think we will likely come back here upon our next visit. My only negative is that we booked our room not having been here before and got the ONLY room in our whole building side without a sliding door. I wish they had told us this when we made a reservation as it makes for less ventilation/light. Overall we have had a very nice stay and if you're coming to Ogunquit with LOs this is your place given its proximity. read more

While we did not stay there over night, they gouged us with rentals for beach umbrellas and chairs. We rented on July 3 for $10 each. We had to put down $10 each for deposit which we got back at end of day. We returned today to the beach and needed to rent. Well they upped the price to $20 each with another $20 each for deposit. They claimed people were stealing umbrellas so they had to double the price. Maybe they need to rethink their pricing scheme and at least be consistent. It was very fishy to me. Especially since they are the only place at the beach that rents umbrellas and chairs. By the time you pay parking which is $30 a day and then rent chairs and an umbrella you are looking at $130 for a family of 4 at a minimum once you get your deposit back. What a monopoly. My advice for anyone be coming to Ogunquit Beach is to bring your own chairs and umbrellas. read more

Love the Norseman . I've been going there since I was 7 years old. My family has been going since way back when. I just stopped going every year due to not having a dog sitter. I will not put in a kennel. But anyway back to review love Ogunquit! The beach is beautiful as a lot of restaurants near by with shops just down the street. You can walk everywhere. Nice place to stay. Clean and updated nicely. The best rooms are the sundowners. You can fall asleep to the ocean waves. Have always kept my sliding doors open. Great place to stay!!! Beautiful location. Balcony is great since the weather was poor. Beach is extremely small and shared with all. The rooms are fair at most. Could use updating especially the bathrooms. The hair blower was useless . Air conditioner is located too far from the beds and mostly cools the bathroom. Nice large flat screen tv but only a handful of channels! For the money I spent I expected more . Splash restaurant is great for a quick meal as well as the delicious soft served ice cream available all night long. Staff is great and accommodating. Please keep in mind that at 9 am they are knocking on your door to clean the room. I sent him away twice and just took some towels for the next day. When the weather is poor people don't leave the room first thing in the morning ! read more

We picked this place based on proximity to beach. Bathroom was nicely updated -. Splash restaurant was good. BUT room was dirty , found someone else's dirty sock in my bed - horrified! Very, very disappointed in this hotel. The staff is less than courteous and helpful. First, when checking in, I asked if there was anyway I could use their bathroom as I am 8 months pregnant. The older gentleman snapped at me and told me no, go use the public restrooms (which by the way I didn't even know were available). Not sure why he had to be rude about it. Then the next day we had the hotel staff clean the room while we went out and came back to a missing iPad, which we locked up in the safe. Instead of sending the general manager or the assistant manager to help us with this problem, they sent someone who works in the kitchen. Not sure why they couldn't come and help us, but they still they have not resolved this issue. We have traveled all over the world, and have never had any personal property stolen. Between the stolen item and the awful staff, I would stay elsewhere. I know we will never be staying here again. *update- Just spoke with the manager Nancy and all she could say was, "Well we spoke with the cleaning staff and they said they didn't take your iPad. There isn't anything else we can do." So disappointed in the lack of effort. Again, no one else was in the room other than their staff. read more

Okay then! After seeing great reviews, I decided to book a getaway. I researched the place and proximity to things around the area, found a great room and put in all my credit card info and at the last step it told me to call the hotel. I spoke with someone there very short. He said they don't do one night rentals and then looked it up and said it wasn't available. I gave feedback on the website and he said "The website is not working. Okay, bye!" So probably won't be back for a visit! While the decor is a little dated I don't think it matters much as you're right on the beach AND on the river. A short walk away is downtown for dinner and drinks. Staying at the Norseman rooms right on the ocean was fantastic! I would recommend staying on the 2nd floor because it is open to the sun and you can sit out on your deck if you didn't want to go sit right on the beach! Highly recommended! Staff steals. iPad missing from room, 99.9% certain it was the safe as well which is super sketch. GM ( Katheryn Kelley) was less than helpful. I gave this hotel another chance a few weeks ago, totally disgusted! Mold in the shower, closet doors falling off the hinges, horrible pillows and blankets. Entrance to the beach is a rock slide, and dangerous pathway. Will never stay here again. To the owners, with the cost of those rooms, you should be able to renovate every five years! I stayed in the "sundowner" building and the "beach street" building and I loved both of them. They were clean and cozy. You can still see the ocean from the beach street room and also the river and people walking by. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. I went for a trolley ride, took a walk on the Marginal Way, swam in the beautiful ocean, and went shopping. Ogunquit has the most beautiful beach and The Norseman made it the perfect vacation. read more

2 stars for the room itself, +3 stars for the location, location and the location. Well, they're also pretty nice with service, considering they could be real snooty with their killer location. As the other Yelper wrote, this place is right on the beach...I mean, I regretted bringing an umbrella because I could have just used the hotel's beach chairs under the covered veranda a few feet from those who had dragged umbrellas and chairs from who knows how far away. We got one of the beachfront rooms thanks to a cancellation. I've never been so close to a nice beach and indoors at the same time. Open the front door and the rear sliding doors and you get a wonderful breeze. Now, the room itself was tidy, a bit petite, and the bathroom was dated. In fact, the whole structure was from another era...missing the classical/classy era, but before the modern era. This place ain't cheap! I was grumbling a bit at the price, especially after seeing the structure. But it's one of those things - you settle in, realize how convenient it is to the beach, and sort of forget the price paid. They also allow swimming in a small heated outdoor pool at a sister hotel a little walk away. That was nice, because the water was so cold at the beach. But the star at the Norseman is the proximity to the beach...if that matters to you, then there's no better place to stay. read more

The ONLY hotel on the beach in Ogunquit. It made our stay to be able to not worry about parking, forgetting anything or lugging all our stuff to the beach with us. So relaxing. The hotel reminds me of a classic beach resort from the 50s. I liked the simple feel - it seemed right for a such a historic beach town like Ogunquit. Our balcony view was incomparable. The river, dunes, sea roses and ocean and nothing else. Again - I say so relaxing. read more
