    Norsemen on Ogunquit beach

Right on the ocean. Nice rooms. Always feel like a queen when I stay. Go every year for my birthday.

The view from right behind the hotel!

This hotel is in an excellent location being right on the beach! Additionally, this hotel is surprisingly well priced for being on the beach, and so newly renovated. The rooms were clean, though the floors were a bit sandy, but that's to be expected at a beach hotel. One of the really cool things is that the showers have TVs in them! There is plenty of parking and the hotel lobby stays open 24 hours which is very nice. It is easy to walk to the town, so no need to bother with moving your vehicle from the hotel parking.

We just left this morning and are already planning a return trip! The remodeled Sundowner full-view king room was perfect as a home base for exploring Maine's southern coast. With the best imaginable view, reasonable rates, and a clean room with a microwave, refrigerator, and separate freezer, what's not to love? Well, there are couple of things not to love! The water pressure is very low and the pillows are like hockey pucks. I'll bring pillows next time and prepare to spend a lot of time rinsing my hair. For this view, I'm prepared to look past a few things!

Breakfast at Splash! Great eggs and super friendly service. Nice view too.

We stayed in the Tidal Suites after Labor Day and it was a magical experience. Everything in the suite was wonderful: comfy bed, huge private balcony, a fireplace, two big TVs, a nice little kitchen area with sink, fridge and microwave and the best hotel bathroom I've ever experienced. It had 6 shower heads and heated floors! No issues with hot water availability. Laying in bed under a fluffy comforter and watching the birds on the river was so relaxing and just what I needed. The location can't be beat. There are restaurants right by the hotel (including Splash where we had breakfast 3 days in a row), you can walk to town easily, and most importantly, the ocean is steps from anywhere at the hotel. If I had to quibble I would say that the pillows aren't very high quality, but otherwise this was a fantastic experience. Treat yourself!

This was a first for me.

BAIT AND SWITCH at its finest!!! When we placed the reservation our first choice of ocean view was not available. The fellow suggested that we would be very happy with a room on the second floor with a partial ocean view as well as the river. We were disappointed but agreed. When we checked in there were no rooms on the second floor and no view of the ocean at all. Also when we were checking in the woman stated that there were no notes on the reservation for any request at all. The room we were given was room 118 and the view was dune bushes. And don't get me talking about the parking. God only knows where they park during the summer. After going thru the parking lot once we turned around and were able to snag a parking space right off the street making it necessary to drag our suitcases thru two parking lots. Also have any of you ever heard of a reserved handicap parking space? I have had a tag for over 25 years this was a first, as I began to pull into a handicap spot a guy began honking is horn and waving for me to leave the spot. When I saw the sign on top of the handicap sign I put my car in reverse to leave HIS SPOT and by then he was out of his car yelling. We were afraid to leave the parking lot because we weren't sure that we would find one on our return. Now about the room. We had to fight with the screen on the slider every time we went in and out. The bathroom was great newly renovated but we used our extra towels to wipe up the water on the floor that leaked out when we used the shower. At $400.00 per night, off season mind youI expected better!! Oh I gave them a one because we had breakfast at Splash. Very good food and staff was great too.

Came in off-season early April so the hotel was fairly empty. The resort is beautifully situation ON the ocean with rooms opening to the beach. Just lovely. The room was clean and comfortable. It had plenty of electric plug-ins. My one complaint that reduced my stars by 1 - the room had no dead bolt or slide bolt. As a single woman traveling, I like to feel secure. There was also no bar on the sliding glass door to the ocean; for security sake, I had to lock the doors at night locking out the ocean. I was going to stay two nights but had to change plans, but they do not grant refunds so ensure you have your dates nailed down before reserving. The restaurant, Splash, was fantastic! I had lunch a wonderful shrimp caesar salad which was delicious! And the breakfast included in your reservation is not a single muffin, but I had pancakes and bacon (fabulous by the way)! They have a list of about 6 selections you can choose from! Overall a really nice resort to enjoy the ocean.

Rag maintenance guy used to clean around toilet and floor.

We come to Ogunquit at least 4/5 times a year during the off season and in season, we typically stay at the Anchorage or The Colonial. We have small children so we wanted something more for a family didn't need anything "fancy".We knew this stay would be a bit different in the sense of not being a "4 star place" but again we thought it would be perfect for our family due to the location and views. Realistically when we come we just need a comfortable, clean place to sleep since we're never in the room. Unfortunately we won't be back due to the cleanliness of this place. We had checked in around 3pm but right away got to exploring and didn't even stop into the room until about 10pm. Our room had sand upon arrival ( yes I realize it's on the beach but it should've been vacuumed before we checked in) as we walked through the bathroom was disgusting with hair in it and there was mold forming on the shower and outside the shower. It was clear that it was "quickly" organized because I can't even say cleaned. On the bathroom floor there was women's hair and just filth around the toilet bowl and floor. Ive never been to a hotel where I paid $1,300 to stay and it be so DISGUSTING. I ended up having to go down to the front desk after checking around to other places we stay to see if they had any vacancies but everything was booked. I showed the front desk pictures of the condition of the room where the lady could barely believe it. She sent a very nice man who was extremely kind and very apologetic. He couldn't believe the condition of the room either and immediately started bleaching everything for us. It's now 11pm and my children still couldn't go to bed after a long day because the room was being cleaned, I went to turn the AC on and the filter was busted causing the AC to barely blow out anything- again the nice man helped with that as well. The safe in the room was also busted, due to the time of night he had no repair for it but we assured him not to worry, we would valuables in our car. It was just a disaster. We felt horrible that a maintenance person who fixes things had to clean a hotel room. He never complained but clearly was bothered. We are very grateful for him. The next morning it was a bit difficult getting through to the hotel manager, when I finally did I explained everything. I offered to show her pictures but she said it wasn't needed ( I found that a bit strange). After about a 20 minute conversation she offered us a $100 gift card to a well known restaurant and thanked us for visiting the hotel and told us to give her a call if anything else. I had mixed emotions on this but I was really done with this consuming my vacation time. I understand the summer is a very busy time but I just don't understand how something like this could happen. I hope they fix their cleaning issues as I think this place has potential, we just simply don't plan to be back.

When the welcoming staff opened the two front doors to welcome me to the lobby, It's in that moment that it seems all reality is left behind, and the only thing before you is immaculately stunning ocean views of the coast of Maine reflecting off of the floor to ceiling windows that greet you like doors to heaven. The upscale accommodations, mouthwatering food from breakfast to dinner, exquisite details in their decor esthetic, and ability to satisfy a romantic getaway or a family trip to remember, are not what sets the cliff house apart from any other experience you may have elsewhere. It is the professionalism poise, and sincerity that is shown to you by every staff member from housekeeping to event manager. Mary Ryan was a name in particular that I would have to highly recommend to assist you in making your experience one you won't soon forget. She was nothing short of a Fairy Godmother who which a flick of her wand had the ability to make you feel like royalty. From stocking your fridge with your favorite beverages and snacks, to scheduling activities for the kids throughout the day...her expertise is personalized to your interests to ensure your stay is made uniquely special to you. Each recommendation she provided from morning coffee to dinner cocktails was everything and anything I could have hoped for. A few days with her itinerary suggestions will have you feeling like a 2 week vacation in 48 hours. There isn't a hallway you could walk down without being greeted with a smile and friendly hello from staff, or a drink you could order without being remembered by name and cocktail of choice during your stay. Its beauty speaks for itself, but its quality is a true reflection of its employees. Always grateful for my experience and hope so many others are able to have a taste of paradise in any season!

The lobby has beautiful decor and the view over the cliff is fantastic. Every floor has a Maine Station- which includes a coffee station, 3 water options, and some fruit. Our room was spectacular and had a view over the cliff. It was not warm outside so unfortunately we weren't able to use the outside pools. For what I could tell there are 2 outdoor pools, one indoor pool and a larger hot tub. There seems to be a lot of weddings there. I believe like 3-4 a weekend. The grounds were very well cared for and there were different activities throughout the day you could participate in. The location is a little remote which is nice, but hard to explore being that it was our first time in Maine. The food was pretty good for the most part. We liked the food better at The Tiller than Nubb's. The drinks are really tasty, but can get spendy. We overall really enjoyed our visit and stay at Cliff House. Rating would be 4.25

The Sparhawk rooms are right at the water's edge and you have wonderful unimpeded views of the Atlantic, Ogunquit Beach, Little Beach and the outlet of the Ogunquit River, with the mesmerizing tides. Plus the views are due east and the sunrises are amazing. However- though the rooms are clean and comfortable with a private patio or balcony, there are some misses for a higher end "resort" property. Our balcony door's deadbolt lock didn't work (which is a safety issue!), the bathroom sink's drain stopper was broken, the walls are rather thin so you easily hear your neighbors (and snorers), and we had ants in the bathroom. Plus it would be nice to have in-room amenities like a coffee-maker (coffee, tea, hot water are available in the lobby but only starting at 7AM, so early birds like us in need of a morning brew are out of luck) and mini-fridge (for keeping those leftovers or desserts fresh - instead, we had to wastefully throw them out). The complimentary Continental breakfast is welcome but the offerings are on the scant side - there should at least be cut fruit available and it would be nice to have hot fresh oatmeal instead of instant oatmeal packets. There are many other choices to stay in Ogunquit that offer such amenities and are more sound-proofed, though perhaps not with the amazing views that Sparhawk offers. But if The Sparhawk would like to be a top-notch stay, I think they need to up their game a little!

However, if you're like me, and you want a full vacation experience and hotel with a lobby and some amenities, with a pool, private balcony, a room with a beach view, and a fun experience hanging out in the room on a rainy day, or relaxing at night with wine and cheese, just know this is a simple little place and not all rooms are spacious and have views - you will have to make sure you reserve one of the larger rooms with a view. And the hotel is all about location, not frills. We made our plans late and got a garden level room, which was clean and had a comfortable bed, but, well, it's a garden level room with no view, facing a parking lot, with ultra low ceilings and was kind of cramped. Still, it had a nicely redone newer bathroom and shower, a functional air conditioner and it was convenient that there was a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster oven (for slices) and a sink for dishes etc so you don't have to fill up your coffee maker with water from the bathroom sink lol! We got lucky and had beautiful beach weather for every day of our stay so we just used the room to shower and sleep and spent time at the beach, walking Marginal Way, exploring Perkins Cove, shopping, trying different restaurants and having ice cream at night on one of the many public benches for people watching. This hotel does have a pretty lawn with some tables and chairs for all guests to use and that was nice in the morning with coffee. But if you reserve and get a garden level room, I wouldn't recommend that in the off season, or if you are unlucky and get rainy weather.

My husband, sons and I had been going to the dunes for 8 years as returning customers to our cottage at the dunes. it was what everyone in our family always looked forward to. Both of my sons could not wait to take our yearly family trip. it was our forever spot, where we envisioned our family generations going every summer. When my oldest went to college he would still come to the dunes, even flying from his internship in California out to our yearly two week dunes vacation because, yes, it was that special. I can't understate that it was an absolutely magnificent place, untouched by corporate greed, a little family operation. The only thing to mark the property was an un-assuming wooden sign, small and simple but well done - just like the dunes. if you went fast enough on the bustling touristy road you would miss it. beyond the threshold of pines that shield your view to this little ideal world, are incredible ocean views, simple little cottages, green grass, and lots of space, it was a simple little paradise. the dunes was simple, elegant and already expensive. now imagine 2x the cost and you get the idea. what used to be around 8,000usd for a two week stay ( and a full kitchen) is now around 20,000$ (with no kitchen)........ absolutely insane. whats more disappointing is the rebranding of the property as some luxury cottage getaway when the original architecture and entire feel WAS ALREADY MORE GENUINE than this rebrand!!! The whole idea of the dunes cottages were things are simple, like going back in a time machine, units aren't about new interior renovations and luxury finishes. its about time to connect with family outdoors, get away to a simpler time and remember what truly matters. shame on new ownership - truly commercialism at its finest. Well done management, you lost an 8 year returning client, and just know, we have since visited and this place lost what made it special.

The hot tub was often quiet around 8pm and made for the perfect end of evening activity. They have an ample selection of towels and robes by the pool that are available to use. We also enjoyed a couples massage offered by the inn. Breakfast was very yummy! Each day there is a large selection of options you can pick and choose from. They had the breakfast offering for the day displayed and then you check off what you want with a marker on a short form. The inn is about a 10 minute walk from Footbridge beach, which was awesome. Overall I would recommend for any weekend getaway or celebration!

Everything went well! My husband and I frequently stay at bed and breakfast inns but the Gazebo is…read morethe ONLY place we have returned to over and over. The staff is exceptional, Pete has this place running like a top! This time we stayed in Barn Suite 2 and I think this may now be my new favorite room. The shower is unbelievable and the room well appointed. And breakfast? The best! They make scones daily and each day is a different main breakfast. They also provide ice tea and either a sangria or other type drink along with house made cookies (best I've ever had) as well as Whoopie pies and mixed nuts and snack mix.
