    Beautiful property!
    Alena S.

This is a beautiful property and we feel like we made the perfect choice for a week stay in Maine. Our condo is a good size with a separate living area and small kitchen. Everything is updated and modern. A nice touch is the Beekman toiletries. We love having coffee in the morning sitting on the wrap around porch with a view of the ocean. Everything that Ogunquit has to offer is within walking distance from Marginal Way House. There are so many restaurants and bars with patios to breathe in the crisp, fresh air. This vacation is going by too quick and we're already talking about when we can come back!

Location! Location! Location! You really can't get closer to the action than the Marginal Way House. If you've ever been to Ogunquit, you've probably walked by this well landscaped house on the way to the beach. There are other hotels on the ocean with cookie-cutter rooms, but the Marginal Way House has so much more character. From looking at the website each room has its own unique personality; it almost feels bed and breakfast like. I wanted an ocean view so stayed in Room 11 on the third floor of the main house. The bathroom was across the hall, but the view more than made up for this. The room was clean, and nicely taken care of. Even on the third floor the WiFi worked perfectly. There was a closet and a few drawers although space was somewhat tight I appreciated the house feeling. The shower had great water pressure and heat which is always important. The short interactions with the staff were all very positive. I called ahead to say I'd be checking in late and when I arrived I found my room with the light and the heat on like the "innkeeper" had been expecting me. The office staff was helpful to direct me when I had a questions. When I asked if I could checkout late they checked that the room wasn't occupied after me and that I could take the whole day! There isn't any type of kitchen or continental breakfast but there is coffee provided if you bring your coffee cup from your room down to the office. It was amusing to run into other guests in various states of alertness and dress in the mornings struggling to get their first cup. When I was there in the off season the prices were more than reasonable and I didn't notice any noise from the beach-walkers along the road even when siting on the large front porch enjoying the spectacular view from the main house. My only complaint was that the walls did seem somewhat thin; when the guests in the next room were talking loudly I could make out most of their conversation. Also when I was there the parking lot was almost full so it might be difficult if you have more than one car. I highly recommend the Marginal Way House if an amazing view and home-like decor and charm are your top priorities when staying in Ogunquit.

It is directly across the tidal river from Ogunquit Beach, so we got to experience the beach in the privacy of the lawn.

The Sparhawk rooms are right at the water's edge and you have wonderful unimpeded views of the Atlantic, Ogunquit Beach, Little Beach and the outlet of the Ogunquit River, with the mesmerizing tides. Plus the views are due east and the sunrises are amazing. However- though the rooms are clean and comfortable with a private patio or balcony, there are some misses for a higher end "resort" property. Our balcony door's deadbolt lock didn't work (which is a safety issue!), the bathroom sink's drain stopper was broken, the walls are rather thin so you easily hear your neighbors (and snorers), and we had ants in the bathroom. Plus it would be nice to have in-room amenities like a coffee-maker (coffee, tea, hot water are available in the lobby but only starting at 7AM, so early birds like us in need of a morning brew are out of luck) and mini-fridge (for keeping those leftovers or desserts fresh - instead, we had to wastefully throw them out). The complimentary Continental breakfast is welcome but the offerings are on the scant side - there should at least be cut fruit available and it would be nice to have hot fresh oatmeal instead of instant oatmeal packets. There are many other choices to stay in Ogunquit that offer such amenities and are more sound-proofed, though perhaps not with the amazing views that Sparhawk offers. But if The Sparhawk would like to be a top-notch stay, I think they need to up their game a little!

You're by the water and it's a quick 10 minute walk to the beach (when it's low tide). They have paddle boards, kayaks and you can even go on the pontoon when it's high tide. This is by far the best hotel we stayed at.

My husband, sons and I had been going to the dunes for 8 years as returning customers to our cottage at the dunes. it was what everyone in our family always looked forward to. Both of my sons could not wait to take our yearly family trip. it was our forever spot, where we envisioned our family generations going every summer. When my oldest went to college he would still come to the dunes, even flying from his internship in California out to our yearly two week dunes vacation because, yes, it was that special. I can't understate that it was an absolutely magnificent place, untouched by corporate greed, a little family operation. The only thing to mark the property was an un-assuming wooden sign, small and simple but well done - just like the dunes. if you went fast enough on the bustling touristy road you would miss it. beyond the threshold of pines that shield your view to this little ideal world, are incredible ocean views, simple little cottages, green grass, and lots of space, it was a simple little paradise. the dunes was simple, elegant and already expensive. now imagine 2x the cost and you get the idea. what used to be around 8,000usd for a two week stay ( and a full kitchen) is now around 20,000$ (with no kitchen)........ absolutely insane. whats more disappointing is the rebranding of the property as some luxury cottage getaway when the original architecture and entire feel WAS ALREADY MORE GENUINE than this rebrand!!! The whole idea of the dunes cottages were things are simple, like going back in a time machine, units aren't about new interior renovations and luxury finishes. its about time to connect with family outdoors, get away to a simpler time and remember what truly matters. shame on new ownership - truly commercialism at its finest. Well done management, you lost an 8 year returning client, and just know, we have since visited and this place lost what made it special.

The room came equipped with our own Keurig and fridge (with bottled waters) and Lindt chocolates, yum! Love the sliding pocket door leading to our bathroom and the cozy decor of the entire room. The Covid prevention at the inn was A+ excellent. Hand sanitizers everywhere and the entire inn was spotless clean. And even though we all wore masks, it was easy to see everyone who greeted us was smiling, especially Bruce! Extremely warm & friendly environment. I really LOVED breakfast and appreciated the ordering process: wipe-away mini menus where we checked off what we wanted to order. Brilliant! By the way- possibly the best blueberry pancakes I've ever had in my life! Thank you again for a wonderful stay! We will most definitely be back! Highly recommend! There are rooms located in separate buildings and rooms located within the main building. The disadvantage in staying in the main building is the limited view from some of the rooms. The major advantage is the following amenities are located here which include the: * Gym * Pool * Ice maker * Vending machines * Business center * Coffee and tea * Microwave * couches and tables in the lobby area Some rooms are a tad more expensive but it comes with 2 sinks and a larger refrigerator. So check before booking. There is no restaurant located in this inn, but there are plenty in walking distance. Some of the rooms have a 6 inch drop when you step down from the threshold of your door.
