We've been coming here for 29 years and have always enjoyed our rooms on the waterfront. This year we opted to try out one of their fireplaced rooms as the photos on-line were amazing. THIS REVIEW IS ON ROOM 109. Just $20 more per night for a nice fireplaced room. NOTE, photos online are VERY deceiving and we were greatly disappointed in our room. It was so small. Room was pie shaped, located near the elevator and 2 entry doors. So the room was noisy and the pie shaped room made the room VERY small compared to other rooms that we have stayed in on the 2nd floor over the past 29 years. The room is marketed as newly renovated ‍. Yes they have nice tile floors which were absolutely freezing even with the fireplace on (it has a one hour timer) and the ceiling tiles have been replaced. They could definitely do away with the massage chair in the corner and place another arm chair. Just the 2 of us and there was just one comfortable arm chair and a desk chair (and a metal filing chair if you decided to use it). The king size bed did fill the room. The bathroom was a mere 4'x8' with just under 3' in the toilet area and just 2 feet from the tub to sink. They only had one small 3 drawer dresser (each drawer was just 6" deep). Needless to say the two of us had to live out of our bags due to lack of space for our winter clothing (14° or less outside). Don't know if we were near some sort of drain because all night long you could hear water either being flushed or running. I HIGHLY recommend Lafayette Oceanfront resort but do not wast your money on a fireplaced room. We have been coming here for 29 years and hope to be coming here for another 20+ years read more

Just stayed for 5 days right after Labor Day, we had never been and were very happily surprised. Quant rooms right on the beach, the slider opened right on the beach, love that! Rooms had a small fridge, kurig coffee machine, and a small couch and king size bed. They also have a indoor pool and jacuzzi. Now this is not a 5 star resort, they do not clam to be, but the location can not be beat! Right on a 7 mile Beach, 15 min from Ogonquit, a-couple great restaurants in walking distance of the resorts For a true Maine beach getaway, this was beyond perfect! read more

We were in Sanford on Friday night to watch our son pitch against the Mainers and stayed over in Sanford. Saturday morning we drove to Wells to have breakfast at Congdon's Doughnuts (good choice there) and took a drive along the shore and our urge to stay another night was predictable. On a lark we called the Lafayette and lo and behold they had a room, side balcony, king bed for $186.29 all in. Front desk staff were very pleasant - guessing family and/or longtime employees. We stayed in the Original Building, 126, which they bill as budget and budget it was. However, it was just fine for what we were looking for on an impromptu night. Comfortable and clean, AC, TV and a fridge at a price south of $200. They even had property bikes that were free to use and we easily biked to shopping, dinner (Billy's) and breakfast again (Congdon's of course). Beach is beautiful, breezes are plenty and the room was surprisingly quiet. Extra bonus: the older couple who were the caretakers of the Original Building ensuring parking spaces were available for guests. They were personality plus people! We'll be back for sure. read more

Only half the hot tub jets were working and the waterfall wasn't working at all. No trash can in our room or TV remote. What's with the sneaky dollar charge for a phone in your room? Wasn't supplied with a reciept and when I asked for one we noticed a charge for the room phone. The lady at the desk said we could ask for a refund because we didn't use the phone. She said everyone is charged the phone fee and we could ask for a refund. Why would anyone ask for a refund for a fee they didn't know they were being charged? Tried to watch Kenticky Derby but couldn't because the TV needed to be hooked up. Prices keep going up by quality is going down. They don't even do everyday room cleaning.....strange. read more

Have been going here over 40 years. My husband and I couldn't wait for Fridays when we would get in the car and get to our favorite place for the weekend. We would request a second floor ocean room so we could leave the sliding door open all night and breathe that ocean air. We both relaxed there like no other place. Rooms have little refrigerator and microwave so we would stop down the road and pick up groceries to bring lunch to the beach. They do have a restaurant and little store for essentials. Staff is great and most have been there for years. We have gone there even in the winter and it still has that beautiful view. One of my favorite places to go. read more

This resort is in a perfect location by the beach. Depending on which lodging you choose you will either be on the beach, across the street from it or a very short walk away. The customer service from inquiry to reservation to stay was top notch. We had a few concerns about our room during our stay and they were resolved immediately. The indoor pool and hot tub area is very nice and although the fitness center is small, it has what you need. In addition to the Keurig machine in each room, they also provide coupons for free coffees at the Forbes Family Restaurant so we had free iced coffee every day! We stayed in the Oxcart Inn (one of the cheapest options) and although the rooms are a little outdated, we were very pleased. Would definitely recommend! read more

My family has been staying g at this hotel for 20 years. My wife and I live in this Maine area. So when either of my daughters or other relatives whom have also used this hotel for 20 years have enjoyed ourselves. But now to enjoy my grandchildren in the pool, Guests now have to pony up $10.90 to use the pool. The nightly fees are pretty hefty here on the ocean. Charging $10.90 to use the pool is pretty greedy. read more

A wonderful stay! It was an amazing vacation for my family and I! We stayed in the brand new rooms, with out own deck and a beautiful view. There were several shops all around the resort and even a boardwalk arcade! This was my first time being in Maine during the Summer. Even though the weather wasn't as nice, it was still an amazing stay. The pool wasn't too crowded, everything was very clean! Only thing I would recommend to the resort is to add a coin machine in the laundry room! We had to use $10 just for quarters! Haha! read more

This place is worth the stay for the view alone. The rooms could use some updating but they are clean for the most part. The carpets could stand to be replaced and some of the furniture is worn. I'd like to say how horrible this place is so that I always have "my" room when I go BUT I CAN"T- We love it here! My son lives close by and we could stay there for free but I love waking up with the ocean right there! I love that at high tide the ocean is splashing on my patio! We have been staying at Lafayettes two to three times a year for more than twenty years (with the exception of 2020 when we only stayed once thanks to the pandemic), we love the location, the quality of the rooms varies depending on the building but generally we enjoy our stay. This year we took the entire family and rented one of their vacation homes, One Particular Harbor, for the week (last week) and we were not happy. Our week began with a small flood in the kitchen due to a leak in the island sink, an air conditioner and ceiling fan in the master bedroom that did not work and a half eaten pizza under one of the beds and used plasticware under a couch. It took two days and two calls to get a response from maintenance. We also then found out that the handles for the crank out windows were stripped so no opening and closing windows, the house is described as partially air conditioned which means there is a small window air conditioner in the three bedrooms, so opening and closing windows became an issue on the hotter days. We had planned on eating most of our meals at the house to avoid too many public spaces (member of the family is a chef) but quickly found that the stove did not work properly, especially the oven which barely worked at all. And finally we had to pay for extra parking as we had family coming and going at various times during the week, this was not an issue as we expected this. When obtaining the cards for the overflow parking I was told that when the cards were returned the $25 deposit for the card would be returned. I collected all of the cards and returned them to the office on the day we left and was told 'no refund' since the card was not returned on the day the family members left (one paid for five days and only stayed three but I was certainly not expecting a refund for that, just a return of the deposit). I explained to the desk clerk that no one had told me that and got the classic 'I will pass that along' response. Needless to say this ended the week on a vary sour note. Based on location alone I know Lafayettes has no problem filling their rooms and will continue to do so for many years but I strongly suggest that anyone considering a vacation home rental may want to think twice. Between the rental, fees, taxes and parking we spent about $8,500 and were extremely disappointed. read more

I'm so disgusted with this place. We stayed over on a Saturday night and Sunday we went swimming in the ocean. I went into the front desk on Sunday after swimming to ask if I could take a shower before the drive home. I was told that my pool privileges ended at 11am. This would not upset me so much if the woman was not completely rude. Rolled her eyes and was not accommodating at all. There is no reason to be so extremely rude. I have also never heard of a hotel not being able to hold bags or use the facilities before leaving. I mean was it too much to ask to let me use the shower to wash sand off before I leave? My family and I absolutely love the Lafayette. It is our absolute favorite place to spend in Maine. My husband and I have been going here for years and were introduced to it by my mother and step father who have been coming here even longer! We go about 2-3 times a year, mostly in the off season because it's so peaceful and the prices are reduced. Every room we have stayed in is in great condition- we have never had a problem with cleanliness. The pool and hot tub are awesome, and the staff is very friendly. It's also in a great central location in Wells so we can quickly get to Hannaford, our favorite restaurants, and all the gorgeous views of the coast of Maine. I would NEVER come here again! 1. We were promised an oceanfront room, showed up and got a parking lot view room. They did nothing about this besides to say, "we would never have promised you that." 2. Went to go to bed the first night and our bed was covered in sand. We asked them to change the sheets the following day: they were still covered in sand. 3. Went to take a shower the next morning, the water came out brown. Their response, "just let it run and it will be fine." Fabulous. 4. Room barely went below 78% humidity the entire time we were there. We have been coming here for many years during winter and summer and have never been disappointed. Newly renovated third floor of the main building with new carpeting, bedding, furniture as well as bathroom greeted us this stay. We enjoy the hot tub and pool but the ocean view is breath taking. If you love the ocean then you need to go there !! You def wont be dissapointed...Then to add to it all beautiful big pool and amazing jacuzzi with waterfull to relax in !!! also they keep open pool and jacuzzi till 11 pm !! Very old fashioned and an odd collection of buildings. But lots of electrical outlets and big rooms, except the base rate rooms. We stayed for 4 days and would have stayed for 7 but on Friday the room rate went up by $40. So we moved to Ogunquit. Not a very scenic part of the coast but on the ocean. The pull of this place is that it's right on the beach. I was on a spur of the moment trip, and as a walk in on a Sat in July, I was glad to have a room. My room in the original building was outdated in Tv and decor, and had a less than cushy mattress, but was spotless. Very clean. I kind of enjoyed the retro 50's bathroom tile. The room also had a mini fridge which was very nice. Great views from hotel patios, and those lucky enough to get oceanfront rooms. The pool and hot tub area were very nice. The whole atmosphere is warm, welcoming and family friendly. Prices reasonable, considering high season. read more

Can't beat the location, right on the beach in Wells. Well, most rooms are. Pricing can be high in the summer, but that's the norm in beach areas. We've stayed in both updated and not so updated rooms. Either way, the rooms have always been clean and maid service has been just fine. Parking can be tight for the hotel. The indoor pool is wonderful, and the hot tub is perfect to relax in at night. The last hour each night is adults only, it's nice to go in there and relax with no kids splashing around. There's Forbes restaurant attached, where you can get something for breakfast or lunch. Nothing fancy, but good food. If you don't have the budget for an oceanfront room, I think the best bet is one of the original rooms. Yes, they are smaller and the bathrooms are tight, but if you go online and look at the pictures, you might be able to reserve a room that has access to a shared balcony. yes, it overlooks some parking spots, but you also get an ocean view for probably half the cost of a room classified as ocean view. Can't beat that deal. One last thing, they still operate on an old fashioned system, you can't pay over the phone by credit card to reserve the room. You mail in a check. It would be nice to see that system updated into the modern era! read more

Stayed one night didn't get to enjoy the beach because the public parking was full and we could not park at the motel.
