My radiant heat was read its last rites. That said, it was time to go shopping for a new HVAC…read moresystem. After carefully researching and meeting with several HVAC companies, I was extremely impressed by Coastal Air Conditioning, specifically Mike Cerchia, who is their Comfort Advisor. Mike is also a tech and still goes out in the field, as needed. He has outstanding knowledge in the HVAC space. He looked at my current set up and provided us with the best fit for our house, which turned out to be forced hot air. He went over the pros and cons of forced hot air versus baseboard, which I also considered. However, my wife and I decided that forced hot air would be the least invasive option with respect to the post installation repairs that would be required, i.e, painting, sheetrock replacement, etc. As promised, Mike provided me with an estimate same day. I should point out that Mike called me periodically to see if we made a decision and if we had any questions. I informed him that we were still reviewing some of the other estimates/proposals that we have received. What we truly liked about Mike was that he never employed high pressure sales tactics. Whenever I texted him or called him, he replied immediately. If he wasn't available, he would return calls promptly. My wife and I unanimously decided that Coastal distinguished themselves from their competitors and, as such, we awarded them with our business. One of Coastal's Service Coordinators, called me to set up an appointment for a walk through, prior to the installation. Brian Mazzatenta, who is Coastal's Residential Installation Manager, performed the walkthrough and measured out what was needed. Bryan was exceptionally thorough and also has outstanding HVAC acumen. He did an excellent job of setting expectations and delivering against them. He followed up and was always available to address any questions that we had. This past Wednesday the installation began. The two techs who performed the installation were Pat and Riley. Both were outstanding. Very communicative with in depth knowledge. They worked as a cohesive team. As we have a dog we were concerned about her getting loose. Both Pat and Riley were very mindful and eased our concerns. Not only were both Pat and Riley outstanding at their jobs and incredibly reliable, they were both extremely respectful of our property. At one point Pat said that he treats a client's house as if it was his own, which was evident throughout the entire installation process. Both Pat and Riley were also very neat and cleaned up any debris that resulted from the installation. I am pleased to state that the installation has been successfully completed, which also included a new hot water heater. Our new HVAC system - both heat and air - is working fine. Overall, we are exceptionally pleased by the level of technical expertise, service and professionalism that was provided by Coastal. While more and more and more of these companies are being sold to Private Equity groups, Coastal prides itself in still being a mom and pop shop - and they are in the best possible way. Everyone from management to the techs to sales to the office are pleasant, professional and knowledgeable in their respective jobs. If you truly want to support a mom and pop business, Coastal is the place for one stop shopping for all of your HVAC needs. Yes - they are that good! I highly recommend this business.

As noted in my original review ( I wish reviews allowed editing) the install was done professionally, the crew worked neatly, and it passed inspection no problem. This winter the new furnace operated with no issues. With this year's early heat waves the new units have been put to the test and then some. The unit that cools the upstairs portion of the house, that always struggled with our old unit, was sized perfectly and it has kept the temperature even when we hit close to 100 degrees. The other unit has worked perfectly as well, keeping the rest of the house comfortable without straining. Very pleased, to say the least.

The best thing about the world of reviews is that each potential customer can come on here, read…read morethem, and then decide whether you want to engage a company regarding their services. This company was referred to me, and I had not read the reviews. To be fair, had I read them, I would have probably given them an opportunity to earn my business. They are strong. That said, there were also some dissatisfied people, and that is the give and take with forums like this. When its good, great. Everyone can take a victory lap. But when it's bad, you also have to be willing to step to the mic after the game and be accountable. There is no accountability here. And if you read the reviews, it was typically over the same issue-money. This was my experience with them, and I now thoroughly understand what those individuals were saying. I would agree that there techs are friendly and knowledgeable. The issue is not with them. It's with the company's leadership and their thirst for cash, satisfied customers notsomuch. If you decide to use this company, understand a few things: They are not as interested in your satisfaction as they are in making sure your check cashes (even if its for several thousand dollars); they are very focused on hiding behind their "scope of work" contract, regardless of the sales pitch they use to get the business (be very clear about what your expectation is and make sure that is included in the scope of work, with estimates on how much each additional thing they don't wan to add to the contract is. You may get nickeled and dime to death. So if you are getting boilers installed, be sure that you insist that they work and they produce heat--i know that sounds unreasonable, but here we are), and understand they don't guarantee their work the way you would think they should...even with warrantees (the boiler they installed shorted and started smoking within days of them installing it, and they refused to come and address it, because it was easier to blame it on the new techs that had to finish the job--let's be clear. What would they incentive be for contractors to purposefully --or even accidentally break a transformer (if I could post the pictures I would) that would require them to work without heat, with the understanding that the boiler was under warrantee and they would have no opportunity to profit from it's failure)? Now, if those things don't matter to you, and based on the other dozens of great reviews they have for straight-forward work, has you enamored, then have at it. That is a great thing about this country. Everyone gets an opinion and everyone is free to do what they want. But for those of you that read reviews, and consider where you spend your money sacred, and return on investment matters to you, you might want to look elsewhere. I know I will be moving forward, and I would not recommend them personally or otherwise, because basic things about service should matter. There are several opportunities with RA Nichols in that space, and for those that don't like to gamble, this may not be the company for you.

Despite doing this pre-job site visit, the technicians arrived, disconnected my old Kohler sink, threw it on the curb, and ONLY THEN realized the new off-the-shelf name-brand sink didn't fit. They completely failed to measure during their initial inspection. To make matters worse, they charged me $300 just to reinstall my old sink due to their own mistake, and then aggressively tried to pressure me into signing a "completed work" form for a botched job, which I refused to sign. I paid my full invoice ($700 total--$400 for valves that were actually installed, and the $300 sink fee) under protest just to get them out of my house.Management refused to refund the $300 labor charge caused entirely by their own team's failure to verify dimensions. While I am not always there to help them, I call ICC whenever they have any issues or want to schedule a regular maintenance visit. Five years ago when they first moved into their current home, my parents wanted to install a more energy efficient unit (at a higher cost). They could have installed the higher cost unit, but patiently explained to me and my parents that the costs savings, especially in a state (NJ) where you would not be running the A/C all year round, would not make up for the price difference through the savings earned from a higher efficiency unit. A few years ago when my parents were away from their home, they noticed through their smart thermostat that the heat was not working in the middle of the winter. They called ICC and they took care of the issue without my parents having to return home from visiting their grandchildren. Most recently Marco, one of their service tech/installers came for a regular service visit, but went above and beyond with helping my parents with an issue that they were having with cooling in certain parts of the home.
