Okay, so I have to update my review because I finally gave Clever Cow another shot and the ice cream was a lot better than my previous visit. The interior is cute, and the employees are very nice and friendly, as are most people on the island. They are very accommodating and were able to serve two different flavors in a half scoop, since I was so stuffed from dinner. I tasted the Earl Gray as well as the Coconut and ordered both. Yum. They were subtle in flavor and very creamy. The waffle cones smelled tasty but my dessert stomach was pressed for space. I tried a small taste of the Ginger and that flavor was on the stronger side... as much as I love ginger I wouldn't choose that option. My sister really enjoyed the Matcha Almond and ordered that along with the Ginger on several visits. (They have unique flavors as well as traditional options... plus a few sorbets.) There will probably be a line in the summer, but it's a pleasant spot in town to wait. The prices are fair, given the service, atmosphere, and quality. I am looking forward to coming back again in the future to try more flavors! read more

Our family was looking forward to trying out Clever Cow all day, and we stopped by after dinner around 6:30pm. The milkshake machine was "done for the day" and they had end of season flavors (4 kinds of chocolate all very similar). I'm 6 months pregnant and ordered a scoop of coffee and it was very small :( disappointing but we'll probably try again next time we are in town. $60 for two adults and three kids with tip. read more

Hands down this is the best ice cream on Orcas Island. Here's how you'd know: our group made sure that visiting Clever Cow Creamery was added to our daily itinerary while we were visiting the island. The smell of freshly made waffle cone definitely adds to the ambiance ohe store. Ice cream flavors: unique and oh-so-tasty! My favorites were matcha green tea, coconut, ginger and strawberry. They had a decent selection of sorbet for those who are lactose-intolerant. Bonus: There are a cute shops surrounding the store with good seating outside of the store as well. read more

This place is an excellent surprise for after dinner treats. We brought three young energy packed kiddos in and the staff was absolutely lovely with them. She helped our little one with the toppings for her ice cream and was extremely patient. The spoons they use are this very interesting paper style but they hold up very well. I had a shake that was very tasty and thick. For three kids and my shake we paid $20 and sat outside to eat. The shop was very clean and wide open. Currently visiting the island for the first time with my family. While waiting in line outside, we observed the friendly atmosphere in the shop through the windows. We noticed that the lady working tonight was friendly with both of the parties ahead of us, she also walked them out to the front door. When we walked in, we were reading the menu and checked out the ice cream in the freezer. While my son was eyeing the chocolate ice cream, my dad was using his GoPro to snap photos of my son, and the lady looked at them about 4x with grim eyes. I told my dad to stop cause she looked upset. My dad asked if it was ok to take photos and she said she just didn't know what that sound was (GoPro beeps when snapping photos). My son is shy around those he's unfamiliar with, and I have been teaching him to speak when asked a question, also when ordering. The lady serving misunderstood his order and when she handed him his cone he didn't put his hand out to accept it. He told me that's not what he ordered. I asked my dad to just take it and pay for it. But English isn't their first language and even when talking to us we get confused. My dad didn't want the mistaken order and the lady quickly took it back and threw it away. Her eyes and quick body movements definitely showed she was frustrated or annoyed. She didn't engage in small chats like the 2 previous parties ahead of us. She also told my son to eat outside because he took his mask off. So sorry about that, we hardly go out and he just did that as instinct to eat his ice cream. I ordered a black coffee for a dollar and the cup was filled about 1/3 up. Not sure if it was meant to be that amount, but ok whatever, don't want to piss her off even more. When we checked out she told me and my dad she needs her 6feet, customers with masks on, and that there is no hospital on the island. She was rude and we felt rushed out. It was just a very uncomfortable and awkward experience in this cute ice cream shop. Not worth a one star. Sorry. read more

Wow. I was going to write a lengthy post about the extreme rudeness displayed by the woman with short hair serving ice cream at this shop. Turns out I don't need to waste my time, just skim through the 20 or so other complaints below, and you'll get the drift. Wait ... I have to just mention a few things. We were there no more than four minutes and in that time she told us (or implied): *We were bad at reading signs that told us how to stand in line *We miss-handled the front door *It was inappropriate to touch a mask, then handle a sample Additionally, she seemed very irritated that I did not know what a "quarter quarter" was (it is their smallest size split into 2 flavors) ... please remember this before you go in there or you will be treated like a dolt. Finally, if you're going to ask for sprinkles, for god sakes don't put it on a sugar cone!!! The short haired lady will allow sprinkles on a waffle cone or in a cup, but will make you feel like a real troglodyte if you dare to decorate your sugar cone in such an oafish manner!!! read more

My wife and I decided to drop in on the spur of the moment, but just as we arrived we noticed it was one minute past closing. But the kind woman running the store (cheery atmosphere and immaculately clean) welcomed us in with a smile, gladly let us sample a flavor, and served us without any trace of annoyance or rush. Creative choices for ice cream and sorbet!! And amazingly delish!! I couldn't even wait to take pictures before I destroy my entire sorbet in 2min. Passion orange guava is heavenly! Not too sweet and the flavors really seep through. Definitely authentic and non-artificial. My friend got ginger (which sounds like an odd flavor for ice cream) but I assure you, I died a little when I tried it. The ginger wasn't overwhelming and the sugary ice cream didn't overpower the taste. Good balance! And their waffle cones are all made fresh (and molded right in front of you!) it didn't taste sweet and sugary like most ice creamery. $3 for half scoop which was perfect enough for me after dinner. The shop is super cute and the ice cream is ok... not amazing but they have several local flavors. However... the woman working, which I assume is the owner, was so incredibly rude. We arrived at approximately 730 and they close at 8 and she was visibly upset about the shop being busy, on memorial day weekend. If i could give this place 6 stars I would. Obviously very tasty ice cream and their waffle cones are to die for. The service was amazing! We showed up about 20 min before they closed unknowingly and they of course accepted us right in. Their card reader had also gone down while we were in line and they were more than willing to work with us since we only had a card on us. Luckily the machine ended up working. My feelings here are mixed. Our first visit was great, a young kid served us who was very friendly and the ice cream hit the spot on a hot day. Our second visit, we got there around closing time and the lady with short hair was kind of rude and weird about giving samples. We tried two samples between my husband and I and she made a comment about us trying every flavor they had. At $6.50 a scoop, I would think that's part of what we're paying for! Otherwise we may as well go to the grocery store across the street and pay less for an entire pint. Consider trying the lavender vanilla ice cream down the block at the lavender store instead! Update to 4 stars: The owner reached out after my below experience and wished to insure a happy result. I revisited the shop again and upped review to 4 stars Very Good (from 3- average): The shop has many unique flavors which were interesting, yet I had a particular itch to scratch that was not met by the day's custom selections, so I went with "Chocolate Heaven (plain chocolate)" cone: the flavor was lovely as was the texture, and the sugar cone was fresh. (They have an option for an on-site-made waffle cone, yet I thought it to be a bit over my budget.) My son had chosen Cookies and Cream from the outdoor window post, and didn't find it in the display row: fortunately he mentioned it and they had the tub in the back room: pays to be aware of the posted list. 5 stars to me is reserved for the truly epic walk-on-water experience, so 4/5 is excellent. A chocolate fudge/brownie/chip/something could have nudged it closer, and the marshmallow-included flavor didn't do it for me: a casualty of only being able to offer a handful of options. ----- Prior review: New to Orcas Island and this tiny spot in 'town'. Was looking for a bite to eat and got some food next door. The clerk starts making it as a shake, which I saw and corrected, but did that affect the end result? IDK. I ordered Hot Fudge, but they didn't correct to 'no, just fudge' either. I saw the clerk scoop some red stuff which I thought to be cherries, and I would have asked for minimal since I want chocolate in my chocolate: a purist to some extent. And they topped it with a cherry too!? I sampled as I got out the door and got hit with a rush of strawberry: I didn't order strawberry (!) and my confused retort was heard by the owner who was outside. Turns out they added some fresh strawberries, which can be seen as a nice gesture but not what I wanted. I had mocha chip which had almost too much chip to discern the smooth ice cream flavor, and not enough (cold) fudge. My son enjoyed his vanilla bean cone, although the $0.92 of sprinkles was maybe $0.30 quantity in reality. Probably better than my review, which was soured by a chain of errors and misdirected expectations. $14 for a cone and a sundae is a bit steep but seems appropriate for this tourist zone. Some of the most delicious ice cream I've ever experienced, intriguingly buttery and just the right amount of sweet. I ordered a split single scoop of chocolate and blackberry, the husband opted for chocolate and strawberry. Oh my gosh this place is incredible, largely because of their ice cream flavors. It looks and feels like a pretty typical ice cream shop, at least what I'm used to in New England. The kids working were very pleasant and provided good service. We tasted three flavors in particular that were totally awesome. The Lavendar, Ginger, and Coconut were to die for.
