Hampton Inn Rochester Penfield - Guest room

    Hampton Inn Rochester Penfield

I was pleasantly surprised by this Hampton Inn and was enjoying my stay until an incident on the…read morefirst night. The front desk attendant was very sweet and friendly. When I got into the room, I was impressed with how clean, spacious, and modern it was. A lot of hotels don't meet my needs as far as cleanliness goes, but this one was good. The room was also equipped with a fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. I recently had a lackluster experience at a much, much larger and more popular and expensive hotel, so I was really happy! After I showered and settled in, someone began to unlock my door and tried to come in. Terrified, I screamed that the room was occupied. Thankfully, I had the extra lock on, so even though they were able to unlock and open it a little, they weren't able to get in. As I looked through the peephole, the woman explained that she was from the front desk, and that apparently, I was in the wrong room. She said a few other things and returned to the lobby with the guests. I called downstairs after I collected myself to get some answers. Apparently, the original guest tried to unlock the door earlier but they couldn't (obviously), so she proceeded to Unlock it for them. My issue is that if the door was locked, that means that someone (me) was in there. As an employee, her first course of action should've been to call the room or even knock on the door and ANNOUNCE herself instead of silently deciding to barge in. I was in my towel and one of the guests was a man. Unfortunately, we see reports on the news all the time about violent behavior, kidnappings, and other things like that, and I thought this was one of those situations. She cut me off while trying to explain my perspective and she kept saying that "I was in the incorrect room". I don't work there and I was given a key to the room I paid for. She finally apologized for the "inconvenience" towards the end of the call, and the other guests were moved to the room I was supposed to be in. Aside from that ordeal, the breakfast wasn't appetizing at all. There was an abundance of cheese omelets and pork sausage patties that appeared to come from the freezer, but they did have some pastries, oatmeal, and cereal. Surrounding shops and restaurants are close by car but not on foot. They have cute little market next to the front desk with snacks, wine, etc. There was also a fire pit outside, and that was nice. I would've given a slightly higher rating if the situation above was handled differently or better yet, didn't happen at all, and the breakfast was higher quality.

This was a nice Hampton Inn location. Parking available out front, check in was easy. Mini fridge and microwave available, plus a standard coffee maker. The bed and pillows were decent for a hotel. They serve breakfast each morning and also have a bar downstairs - I didn't get to check either out but it was nice to have the option. They also had a small minimart type area for essential snacks/drinks if you forgot anything.

There's plenty of parking and lots of grocery stores and restaurants nearby. Service was polite and prompt, there was generally always someone at front desk to respond to questions and check in/out. One thing to note is they have a 2nd building that doesn't have an elevator which is 2 stories. I feel like they don't advertise this but if you have trouble with stairs, it can be a bit annoying to have to go to another building and bring up your luggage via stairs. The main building is where breakfast is. The breakfast is free and include an egg protein, a sausage proton and potatoes. There's also yogurt, milk, coffee/tea, bread, cereals, granola bars, apples, oranges and bananas. The nice thing is they leave the cold food items in the fridge that you can get throughout the day. Same with cereal or prepackaged food items. The rooms themselves are clean though a bit dated. Space of the rooms is average. Overall, for the price, it was pretty good and met our expectations.
