Full disclosure: I was approached by the door to door window consultation, set up an appointment as I have been looking for windows. My house was built in the 60's and I have a combination of single and double pane windows. I clearly want and need to replace the single pane windows, so I scheduled an appointment. I did not purchase windows from this establishment. The product looks reasonable, the salespeople however were rude. Let me preface this by saying that I WANT new windows, honestly. If the salespeople weren't as pushy or rude, I probably would have bought from this company. We get down to business: The night starts as they welcome themselves into my home. They walk around my house and good-cop/bad-cop the windows while taking measurements. "Oh these are awful old windows!" / "You got mold here probably!" etc. They sit down at my table and continue by rifling through many many poorly photocopied consumer reports and letters in a binder, talking about how good the windows are, how good their installation people are, and then a bunch of numbers and percentages without really giving you time to digest it all. I had let them know that I didn't intend to purchase on the spot this evening, and that I'd like to weigh my options. At this point, the older gentleman gets a little visibly upset, and basically says that I'm wasting his time. I explain to him politely, that it's my right as a consumer to weigh my options, and that it would be irresponsible of me to make a decision on the spot without talking or viewing other types of windows or companies. We continue.. They bring in large windows, heat lamps and trim options, similar to what Stephan G. experienced in these reviews. We went over pricing options, financing etc. Everything seemed pretty in order, and pricing didn't seem too bad. They offer an additional percentage off that "...goes away as soon as we walk out that door". I said that I wouldn't really be making a purchase today, as I'd like to find out more information and weigh my options. They started to pack up, called their manager for one final push, and then headed for the door. The older gentleman thanked me for my time, the younger gentleman got a little pushy and hot headed. He basically tried to goad and pressure me into making the purchase on the spot before he left. Two and a half hours later in total, they left. I didn't really appreciate being goaded by a window salesperson in my own home. I most likely won't be doing business with this place in the future regardless. If I do, it won't be on the account of their sales team. Good customer service and manners go a long way. read more

We bought 8 windows from clear NRG in mid to late 2013 for a 16-unit apartment building in Everett, WA, The sales person was more high pressure than the most aggressive used car salesman than I have ever dealt with. We finally signed a deal for the 8- massively overpriced windows ($1600.00 a piece) for the large ones, Shame on me for giving in to them, but he was relentless, wearing us down for hours. But enough with the good stuff. Months later they finally show up for the install, the installers were foul mouthed, they did not clean up any of the old tension strips, and there was pieces of blue tape everywhere in the landscape. Well, it is now March 2015 and half of the new tension strips are coming out. read more

We needed a three new windows to replace aluminum. They were dual pane but didn't have the gas in them or whatever. The alumium alone has just a heat sink to the outside. I thought Id give these Windows a try because their demonstration showed the quality of their product. Now I usually never ever buy anything that is sold door to door but these guys called and set up an appointment and showed up to demonstrate and close the sale. I expected to get a hard sales effort but the rep was relaxed and listened well. After he examind the windows and said the biggest culprit was our old sliding glass door. He was right. I asked how much more and he said once the crew is here installing i'd basically just be paying for the door and the labor would be less than an hour. I had priced Windows and installation and these guys were a bit more but there were A or A+ with the BB and the windows won several JD Powers awards. So I signed. The guys showed up and the lead was the only person I talked with. He knew his stuff and was very polite. Asked him he could raise in me window 2". That was not in the contract and it required cutting or move the 6x10 header up. They did it and didn't charge me any more for it. What I couldn't believe is they came about 9 as scheduled and they were done in just a few hours! If Id done it myself it would be a couple days. The lead watched the installation and suggested solutions to make the exterior better. You wouldn't know they were there when they left except now we had these very efficient. Yeah I dropped a few bills butt it raised the value of our house and I got tax breaks for doing it. The Windows will have paid for themselves in a few years. I couldn't hive ClearNRG a higher rating or reccomendation. read more

These guys came to our door offering a free window consultation. We told them we just bought the house and weren't ready to buy new windows yet, but they said that was ok and scheduled a consultation. First of all, they say it will take an hour but the sales guys were in our house for over three hours. Their educational and demo phases of the consultation are excellent - we liked and trusted them, and they seemed like a great company. But after two hours or so I asked them to wrap it up. Then the sales phase began. If you are not ready to buy windows yet, you will have a hard time getting these guys out of your house. Pressure sales tactics for over an hour ensued. Every time we said no, we are not financially ready for new windows yet, another discount or special offer came out. As long as you commit to at least some windows now! It was infuriating and we came close to having to yell at them to get them to leave. Basically I suspect their product and installation teams are quite good, but fending off their aggressive sales team may not be worth it. read more

I recently had the opportunity of meeting with the professionals from Clear NRG. They were very knowledgeable, and explained things in a way that was easy for me to understand. They were patient and addressed all my questions and concerns. My every want and need was met and exceeded. Not to mention the product options were limitless. The two professionals I met with were extremely polite! Very funny and energetic as well. Not once did I ever feel pressured to buy windows during our appointment. Our meeting was fun and extremely informative, the time flew buy. Their product is amazing and unique. In my opinion, there is no comparison that can be made between their product and other products that are currently on the market. I've been in the construction and remodeling trade for 12 years and have worked with a lot of contractors, but no one has impressed me like Clear NRG has. The consultants that I spoke with never gave me the "used car salesman vibe" and when I saw the quality of their windows I was blown away! What makes these guys stand out is their installation. You can have the best product in the world but if it is installed by monkeys with chainsaws it won't matter, right? These guys are master craftsmen. The Clear NRG window installers just left from our window install. We are very happy with our new windows. The quality is amazing, and everyone at Clear NRG has been very helpful, professional and knowledgeable. We decided to replace all our windows in phases. We started last year with half the windows and used another company (Northwest Windows and Doors). HUGE mistake!!!!!!!!! They are a horrible company with unprofessional employees, and left a sour taste in our mouth when it came to completing the rest of the windows. However, from the first moment of contact with Clear NRG, we've been pleased. They were sympathetic to our past experience, and made sure our new experience was wonderful. The installation guys were quick, efficient, polite, professional, and clean. The windows are lovely. I'm just sad I didn't use Clear NRG from the beginning. read more

These guys are unprofessional and made some really rude comments. Acted like it was a bother to even be out doing their jobs doing a bid. Wanted answers that day and would only give deal if we paid up front. Not sure what kind of shit show they run here. Then had the nerve to call 2 months later and ask if we made a decision. We had not yet and the response was STAY WARM! I would really like to get my hands on the owner of this company. Obviously he has some problems. Hope this review turns some business away as this was really REALLY bad. As if the quote was not offensive the phone call was beyond appropriate. This review is about the sales process, I did not proceed (although I wanted to). Nigel, the fouder and president as his card says, came to do the estimate They are high pressure sales, which i expected when the door to door guy came, and I was fine with that. They want both home owners to be there - which will never happen in our case. We bought a fixer upper and have tag teamed all tasks. I was up front that I did not want them done immediately and would be doing a phased approach. The sales guy came and immediately wanted to reschedule when he saw my husband was not there. I told him if he had to be there that was fine, but we would not reschedule b/c he would never be there. (how does he know our situation would even allow for him to be there..) I assumed the was fine as he did not leave and began his look around/measurement, and then as he continued with the measurement and looking around, and then his sales pitch. I did like his pitch and would have seriously considered him.... BUT..... He gave mea a verbal quote of about 35K; about 10K less if we did not do the back windows. This was my first estimate but it didn't sound that much more than I had expected. As he was leaving I asked if he would be /could send me the quote and he said NO!!!!! Mind you i did NOT ask for it broken by window, just something in writing. (although it is totally reasonable to get a per window estimate) Did he seriously expect me to sign on the dotted line for a 30-40K effort without even looking at other vendors. His response was that he He gave me the quote for the full house and I could take off 10K if we did not do the back.. in, I should add, a pretty rude tone. And when I was ready to book to call. No discussion of further consideration pricing as the company's response. How sketchy is that.... Any other vendor would give you some sort of break down so I could be fiscally responsible and understand what you are paying for. Especially since I told him i was not going to do them all at once. It is unfortunate b/c I did want to immediately proceed with our master bedroom before the winter came, and after winter do the front of the house. No I am left angry that he wasted an hour of my very precious time. I wish I could have called a supervisor but as his card said he was the top dog (odd he would be doing the sales) i resort to Yelp to protect others. read more

Clear NRG came through my elderly parents' neighborhood door-to-door in 2012. They convinced my 85-year old mother to install all-new windows on the main floor of the house. (Over $27,000 worth.) Unfortunately, we didn't know Mom had signed this contract until the windows were already installed. The windows themselves LOOK nice. I don't know if the quality of the product is good or not, though, because they were installed improperly. Instead of installing the windows from the outside of the house (which would have required ladders or scaffolding), they merely cut off the flanges and slid the windows into place from INSIDE the house. This means it is literally impossible to prevent them from leaking. There is no way to caulk them adequately without those flanges in place. The south-facing window, in particular, leaks like a sieve in any sort of rain, especially the type of all-day rains we sometimes have in Seattle. Then, in order to install a new sliding glass door, the Clear NRG workers cut the wood floor away from the door opening. (Probably so they could install that from the inside, too, with flanges removed.) This means there is now a 1/2 - 3/4 inch gap between the edge of the wood floor and the door frame. We didn't realize this until preparing the house for sale, as the wood floor in that area had been covered with a carpet. Clear NRG also scratched up the windowsills and wood trim during installation. Mom insisted that they come back out to fix it (good for her!), but "fixing it" entailed staining the trim a darker color, so that it no longer matched the original trim. Mom had given them the last remaining quart of the original stain, so they could match it. But instead, they used a darker stain of their own and never returned the original. Exploiting seniors, destroying the integrity of the product, using installation methods that violate industry standards. This is NOT an ethical company. read more

This review will be mostly about the sales process, since I didn't purchase windows. First things first: Clear NRG definitely sells high-quality windows, and their installation team also seems top notch. The business itself also seems legit. They sell windows using a door-to-door salesman approach. This has its strengths and weaknesses. The strength is that they can really take the time to walk you through the product and the company in detail, which you wouldn't be able to do in a few minutes at a store location. This process allows the consumer to appreciate that there really is a difference in the quality of windows, and the windows sold by Clear NRG are top notch. However, the door-to-door approach lends itself to misleading sales tactics, and exploits impulsive and overly sympathetic personality types. I experienced some of that during my consultation. First, a fellow came to my door and offered me a $25 gift card if I agreed to a free window estimate. The guy was pleasant enough, but he took 10 minutes to deliver 1 minute of information and he seemed to know nothing about windows. What the heck, I thought, I might as well get an estimate. Then, I received a scheduling phone call. They said the consultation would take 1 to 1.5 hours. The consultation took over 3 hours, from 7:00 pm to 10:15 pm. It's disrespectful to say that it will take less than half the time it actually took, when these guys know exactly how much time it will take (they do it multiple times per day). The salesman was pleasant, professional, and experienced. I didn't find the sales tactics to be high-pressure, in contrast to other reviewers. They do offer you a substantial financial incentive to purchase windows on the spot (14% discount and very attractive financing), but the person I spoke with wasn't pushy about it. I don't know whether or not this kind of incentive, which encourages people to buy without thinking it through thoroughly, is unethical. But it could certainly lead to bad financial decisions if you're an impulsive person. He said they make a jaw-dropping 4 out of 10 sales. I'm sure there are more than a few suckers in that figure. During the consultation, the salesman provided me with many facts and figures, some of which were accurate and straightforward, and others of which I believe were inaccurate and misleading. The windows are clearly high quality in terms of their insulating value, but he repeatedly exaggerated the financial and energy efficiency benefits of the windows. He claimed that the new windows could reduce my heating bill by 33%, 40%, or even more, which is absurd. The US Dept of Energy estimates that 10-25% of total heat loss happens via windows. According to their insulating value (R-value), new Clear NRG windows might reduce heat loss through my windows by 50% at best (vs my old double pane windows), meaning that I'd be saving 5-13% on heating ($100 a year at best). They claimed I could save thousands of dollars on heating over 10 years, but the math doesn't add up. One thing that does add up is the expected return-on-investment in terms of home value. He provided an independent estimate (from www.costvsvalue.com) suggesting that in my area, 80+ percent of the value of new windows is retained in the form of increased home value. I didn't know that, and I was glad to have that information. It does make me more likely to upgrade my windows. They use a heat lamp to demonstrate how well the windows function. The windows are remarkably good at blocking the heat of the lamp. Most people don't understand the difference between reflecting the light/heat from a heat lamp (or the sun) and the insulating value of the window, but it's an important distinction that the salesman failed to explain. The coatings on modern high-quality windows make them very good at reflecting heat from the sun, meaning that your house will stay cooler in summer if the sun is shining through your window. But that's not a big concern in the Seattle area (in my opinion); the bigger concern is heat loss in the winter. Heat loss depends primarily on the insulating value, which is measured as an R-value or U-value. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation. The top-of-the-line windows from Clear NRG have an R-value of just under 4, which is very good for a window. However, to put that into perspective, the typical R-value for the walls of new houses in most areas is R-16, four times better than these windows. The point is that the difference in the insulating value between high-quality and lower-quality windows is small: R-3 vs. R-4 . They also claimed that their windows have an expected lifespan of 50 years, vs 5 years or less for contractor-grade windows. They provided no independent evidence to support this claim, and I suspect it's greatly exaggerated. Their windows will last longer, but by how much? Overall, it was a mixed bag with some significant areas of concern. read more

My husband wandered into an Ace Hardware one afternoon and noticed some windows. "hey we need windows!" So he agreed to have a rep from Clear NRG come and give us an estimate He was told the consultation would take about 60 mins and we'd get a $25 gift card to Ace. So the day comes and the consultation did not take 60 mins, but over 3 hours! We had a wedding to attend and an infant to get ready and were trying to get it done. We decided to finance 3 windows. And got him out the door. (We were late to were we were going btw) A few days later the rep came back for us to sign the finance papers. We discussed things like color and trim, we asked about our enterior trim as we had already done windows and wanted it to match, and were assured they would make sure everything matched. signed papers and were told someone would get in touch with us so they could come out and measure. Several days later, while we were not home, but our inlaws were babysitting, someone arrived (at night mind you) without calling prior, to measure our windows. (This turned out to be the installation manager Tony) We then got a call a few weeks later that our windows were ready for install. We were told that the installers would be at our home between 9 and 10 am. On the day of the install they showed up at 8am, (no time to drop our very barky dog off at the inlaws) Install was going smoothly, the installers, Bryan and Kevin were wonderful and doing a great job. Then we asked about the interior trim to make sure it was going to match. The installers informed us that their paperwork did not mention interior trim and that it only said exterior trim. Upon looking at our contract the only words written in that spot were "per Tony" (They have yet to explain to us what this means) Upon calling Tony the installation manager, and going back and forth all morning, we were quoted from our sales person Jonathon, that it was going to cost us and extra $300 PER window, that's $900 for interior trim on three small bedroom windows. UMM WHAT? NO WAY! He also mentioned that he did not think we needed new interior trim as what we had would "look great!" We were missing trim on two of the three windows and what was there was old, moldy and gross. The installers were shocked that someone wouldn't think we needed interior trim and took photographs to send to their manager (Again they were wonderful) After several phone calls, we got the price down, and agreed just to get the job done, however this is still UNACCEPTABLE The installers left to get supplies to do the interior trim, and finished doing a great job. In fact, the only reasons we gave 2 stars at all, were because of Bryan and Kevin and also the quality of the windows. Now comes to today, a phone call with Jonathon, who called to apologize for the "misunderstanding" blamed OUR rushing to get to a wedding as fault for him not going over all the details with us, and also "I remember it was nice out and we were out on your porch and I must have just missed telling you about this" (this was on signing day) He said he would inquire about the extra money we had to fork over due to his negligence, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't feel like blaming the customer for your negligence is an appropriate way to handle business and it is unlikely that we will be doing business with them again. A big thank you to Bryan and Kevin for being stellar, keeping us happy, and backing us up by taking photos of the lack of trim we had etc. They were wonderful installers. Oh and we never did get our $25 gift card... Update: Manager called and he removed the extra money we had to pay. He was excellent and very nice about the situation. read more

Our home is 30+ years old and was in need of new windows. We did not feel "pressured" by Clear NRG's demonstration team and were impressed by their presentation, so we signed on for the project. The company was very accommodating in scheduling the installations for our convenience. too. We had 24 windows installed over a 4-day period (Mon, Tue, Thur & Fri). The crew (Greg, Evan & Jay) was very friendly, professional and "really knew their stuff!" They worked hard in a very timely manner and helped with other items during the process to make the project go smoothly. We would also rate the crew's daily site preparation and cleanup as EXCELLENT. We bought our house 4 years ago and it still had the 1980's aluminum double pane windows that leaked the cold and attracted the heat from sunlight. After Clear NRG's demonstration and a little research we decided to go ahead and have them install new windows. The crew came in and removed 7 windows, installed 5 and then had to remodel for a slider door. This was all done by end of the day. Our summers are now cooler and the winters are warmer. The windows are really a great product and they have one of the best warrantys out there that tranferes to any new home owner. read more

They also came by during the installation to check on how things were going. The workers were all very friendly, efficient, clean and excellent with the installation. They worked hard!!! They were always right on time and put in a full work day. We had faith in them the whole way. We love our new windows -- they really opened up our view and make our 70's house look much more modern. Also I love how the windows open and close -- so smoothly and elegantly. And of course there are excellent screens -- the best we've ever seen. With our most expensive and difficult to install living room windows the guys putting them in were not happy until they got the job done perfectly. read more

They have been amazing! The quality of window is the best I've seen. The installers were friendly, thorough and polite. Jonathan was my sales representative and he went out of his way to keep me up to date with what was going on and spent the time to make sure we were happy. They seem to really care about you being happy not just an additional sale. I was surprised at the time they took to make sure I was 100% satisfied. The warrantee on the windows seemed too good to be true. Yet when I found a tiny pit in the window that was really small, they replaced and installed a new glass no questions asked. I even got a call from the install manager Tony to apologize for any issue. Tony was a huge help in making sure that I was happy with the work. It is nice knowing that with the warrantee I never have too worry! Better yet I can hand the warrantee off to whoever buys our house. The warrantee stays with the window! I loved them so much I have had almost my whole house done! I was just so refreshed to see a company who still cares about really amazing customer service and quality in their product! ps. Our experience with people coming to our door to sell something has not been that great. There's always a question of trust. This was a very different experience as a home owner. Anthony was very professional when he came to the door, stood back and explained about the company he worked for and the product he was selling from Clear NRG. After a brief review of his product, he asked if we were interested and he then would make a call to his Sales person and in turn his contact would be in touch with us. Russ from Clear NRG contacted us and with our approval scheduled an appointment. At no time whatsoever did we feel this was your typical sales person pushing to make a sale. He went over everything he could about their windows and addressed any concerns we had. He took the time to tell us about the advantages of their windows and did a demo. With our approval he measured all the windows we had, sat down and went over all the figures and came up with a price. We could decide to do some now and the rest later. Russ scheduled to order the windows and within a few weeks they were delivered. The Clear NRG crew were incredible. Talk about professional people. They took the old windows out and put the new windows in within the scheduled time. They absolutely look wonderful both inside and out. We bought a house and soon found out the windows on the back leaked air and needed replacing. When a fellow from Clear NRG came by asking if we would like to speak to their rep about replacements we took his card and did some research online before making an appointment. Two gentlemen, Russ and Glenn, came to tell us what the company offered and gave us enough information to make a decision without pressuring us. Their respectful and knowledgable presentation, along with Angie's List ratings, gave us the confidence to sign an order for four windows. They said Tony would schedule an appointment to measure and arrange for the windows to be custom-made and installed. This was done in the time frame promised. The installers, Don and Cesar, came when we expected, and called us when they got on the ferry to Whidbey Island so we would know they were on the way. Their installation was done carefully and efficiently, and all our questions were answered. They were respectful of our home, making sure nothing was tracked in, cleaning any dust from the installation work, and washing the windows before leaving. We then got a follow-up call and visit to ensure we were happy with the results. The windows are beautiful and all employees we met (another thing: the installers are not subcontractors) were very good reflections on Clear NRG. We feel we got a good value for our money and a hassle-free experience from beginning to end. (Installation was done June 18, 2014.) read more

Unfortunately, my wife set up this appointment without doing her homework. She neglected to tell me until an hour before the rep showed up. Just like others have said...almost 3 hours of strong arm tactics. The guy just wouldn't let up. Not only that but he wanted water, juice, food. Super unprofessional. The guy tells us it has to be a yes or no today since he doesn't have time to follow up with people. So in the end we told him no and he then says he will give us a couple days. Almost $10k for 5 windows? I think not. I will be honest and say parts of the presentation were good but the pressure, unprofessionalism , and cost are a no go. He kept trying to distract my wife with pictures and glass samples, basically being condescending because she is a woman. Little did he know, she is not that woman. She is a check under the hood woman and you can't distract her with frills. She knows next time to just not even answer the door. My husband and I made the commitment to have our old (1970) aluminum frame windows replaced by Clear NRG and WOW!! I've been in customer service for over 30 years and can't decide if I'm more bowled over by the level of customer service, the fact that we've encountered no surprises, NONE, or the windows themselves! I had the strangest experience, while at one of the newly installed windows a car drove by and I thought "where's the sound?". They have made a huge difference in the amount of sun heat that comes in, they are a little tinted which is an added plus, and the frame work around the windows was B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L! We have 3 cats and to be able to have the screens re-screened if necessary without additional cost because of their amazing guarantee is an extra added bonus! Gary T. the project manager called me to check in and to see how things were going. Brian and Cesar (the installers) were polite, professional, and very personable.
