Pros: Watson knows eyeballs. The man is professional and knowledgable: he diagnosed a weird dry eye…read moreproblem I've had forever and prescribed a treatment that is helping, when every other eye doc has failed me by simply telling me, "Dry eyes? Use drops!" Duh, genius. Cons: The office looks like it hasn't been redesigned since the 50s, and the secretary isn't the friendliest person in the world either. I also always leave the place feeling scammed. They won't give you contacts without a full checkup, and if you get the full check up they urge you to get this package deal thing with a 1-year supply of contacts, which is really only two boxes of contacts, but the guy urges you to use a hydrogen peroxide cleaning system instead of a multipurpose solution system, which he says gets twice the life out of a lens. What this means is that you really can't leave the office without spending around $150 for a checkup and two boxes of contacts. Though skilled, Watson might be out of many college students' price range here in San Marcos.

I had a great experience with Dr. Elledge and the team at Pearle Vision near H-E-B on Bulverde…read more I called around lunchtime hoping to schedule an appointment sometime later in the week, and they were able to get me in that same day at 2:30. I work a hybrid schedule and commute a couple days a week, so that kind of flexibility was incredibly helpful. It had been about three years since my last eye exam, and the entire process was excellent. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient, the paperwork was quick, and the staff walked me through several eye-health tests using equipment that seemed very modern and thorough. This was my first time seeing Dr. Elledge, and he was probably the most thorough optometrist I've ever had. He took his time reviewing my results, explaining a few minor things he noticed with my vision and overall eye health, and answering all of my questions. I also appreciated that we were able to have a very straightforward and unbiased conversation about laser vision correction--there was absolutely no pressure one way or another. He gave me two different sets of disposable contacts to try so I could decide which I preferred, provided my prescription, and even sent me home with a few extras. Most importantly, he had a great demeanor and never made the appointment feel rushed. I was there for about an hour and felt like I received his full attention throughout the visit. Between the same-day accommodation, friendly staff, modern equipment, and the amount of time and attention Dr. Elledge gave me, I really can't say enough good things about this office. Excellent experience from start to finish, and I would absolutely recommend them.

We had only moved to TX 6 months ago, so we hadn't yet established optometry care, but my husband remembered Texas State Optical just a mile from our home. The door was locked, I supposed for their lunch break, but then I saw that apparently the employees were in the middle of their Christmas party. Still, one of the employees opened the door & asked what I needed. She immediately invited us in & took my glasses to the back room. Within 10 minutes I had my glasses. When I asked the charge. "None!" she said, "Merry Christmas!" I was too astounded to even ask her name. I sure hope they take Aetna insurance because that one act earned my thanks, respect & customers for life! Thank you, Texas State Optical!

Sarah was very kind and patient with me as I tend to be a bit indecisive when picking out frames. Dr. Rodgers creates such a welcoming environment, as is evident by how willing she is to help.
