It has many things to…read morerecommend it, and yet it has been ages since I've been there - maybe I'm guilty of the "grass is always greener" syndrome. But finally, my wife and I returned on the recent Sunday and were reacquainted with all it has to offer. It's a good park for walking: there's a flat, dirt path that circles the park; I didn't measure it, but it's a decent length, especially if you make multiple rounds. Along the way you see the park has a large bocce ball court, a popular dog park, and a good sized hill for cardio purposes with the Concord Vietnam Memorial on the top. A weekend adult soccer game was going on in the middle of the field. On the other side of the park is a pond (we saw an egret, ducks and geese), and a marsh-like area with tons of cattails. Galindo Creek, heavily shaded with trees, borders the edge of the park. A number of benches let you take a break when you need it from your walk. Newhall Park is a little rough around the edges visually. There's none of the graceful elegance of a Walnut Creek Larkey Park, with its paved path, lush green grass and stately trees. Newhall's grassy areas are functional, but look beat up with numerous dead spots (maybe blame the soccer). The walking path is hard dirt, but can be messy after a rain. The parking lot also is unpaved, and is in poor condition with bumps and holes. We noticed a number of cars parked along Turtle Creek Road prior to the park entrance. But these are minor concerns. In the uber-populated East Bay, any park is a welcome break from wall-to-wall homes, stores and concrete. Newhall Park is an easy way to get out and breathe the fresh air, and deserves the popularity it enjoys. That Walnut Creek park may have greener grass, but sometimes that park down the street is all we need.

I realize our intelligence seems to have declined as a society at this point but you don't give a movie theatre one star because the person in front of you farted during a movie. *Insert eyeroll emoji here* This park is super cute and we are so glad we stopped here. The dog areas are separated and (let me be clear that I am not factoring this into the rating but) there were lots of other friendly courteous dog owners while we were there. They had grass, water, poo bags, shade, benches and even tables inside the dog area. Apart from that, the park itself is nice. There are lost of well maintained grassy areas so even if you don't want to have your dog off-leash, there are plenty of places to walk them or play on a lead. There is parking really close to the dog area for anyone who might have mobility issues and there was a clean open bathroom available for use. We were only able to stay about 30 minutes but we really didn't want to leave. This is a great park to enjoy if you are in the area with or without a dog.

The park looks deceivingly small when entering the park for Rudgear, and soon it opens up to some fairly large sports and open fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, dog friendly areas etc., all within a generous green belt. Walnut Creek is blessed to have these kind of parks and lots of regional park-like open space.

The grass is lush and well kept, and there are even trees being planted for future shade! What I love the most is how HUGE the space is for the big dogs. Just make sure to pick out a poopy bag from the front of the gate before you get in because the one inside is pretty far off. The only thing though is that it's just a damn shame there are still some nasty pet owners who don't take responsibility for their own pet and pick up after them. There was a large pile of poo laying out there for my boyfriend to step on... so be careful?

This is located in a newer developed neighborhood called (you guessed it) Highlands Ranch. They have 2 play structures, a baseball field, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball area, and a soccer field. They also have a large, covered picnic area right in the center of it all. You can reserve this space from the city of Pittsburg on non-holiday weekends. The only bad thing about this park is the wind. We all know that when we are playing a sport, the wind can carry the ball in unwanted directions. That's my only reason this park didn't make the 5 stars cut.

This by far was one of the hardest trails I've ever hiked. The incline is insane! The entire trail…read morewas uphill, I was breathless. But the views the entire time made me just as choked up. It costs $10 to get into the park, gates open at 8AM. There's a 12 mile hike, loops the site. And an 8 mile hike to the Summit (round trip). At the top there's a museum inside which has an exhibit and gift shop. I got a cute T-shirt for $18, they also had a showing of the history behind the summit and how it came to be. We saw a couple deers, baby coyote, various species of birds, lizards, and butterflies. During this time of year, majority of the trail was dead. I rarely saw any hikers, mostly bikers! Most visitors drove up to the summit for pictures and views. The hardest part was definitely going up to the summit! We cut our time by half on the way back down. It was steep, so we temple ran our way down. Really fun! I highly recommend going early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the heat. Not a beginner friendly hike! Challenging. Trails not shaded. Park rangers are very friendly. Maps are also provided at entrance.

Review #184 - 2019…read more While we were waiting for my nephew to play his basketball game, I decided to take my daughter & niece to the nearest park which was less than five minutes drive from the school. We showed up around 4:15 PM on Saturday, July 20th & there were a lot of people there. It appeared that there were a few different kids's birthdays going on. It's a really nice size park. There was a soccer field, baseball field, two separate playgrounds & plenty of covered picnic tables. The only thing missing was a basketball court; which since my son was watching his cousin play, wasn't a very big deal. They had plenty of benches as well, some under the shades & some in the open. Even though it was 91 degrees out, it was still windy so I didn't mind the partly shaded benches since I needed a little bit of heat to keep warm from the wind. My 14-year old niece enjoyed the swings for a good half an hour. I'd definitely come back & have a family picnic here, even if it's a little out of the way. However, the bathroom could use some cleaning.
