little shaded bench in the small dog area
    Carolyn J.

Cool new dog park area with separate areas for large and small dogs. Well maintained grassy area with water and poop bags available. Overall a good place to take the pups without having to trek out to Concord.

Someone put a play structure in the lake! Great idea!

Nice park is less populated than buchanan park, but has no shade at all. Also... It needs better drainage... When it rains the kids play structure area gets flooded

    Spencer relaxing :)

Awesome dog park. The small dog area is small compared to the large dog area but awesome either way.

Awesome dog park for the pups and they have two parks, one for small and one for big dogs.

A nice lady shares a great neighborhood park, with enclosed areas that could be useful. Did take asking several people to find it.... It's not easy to assess as must park in neighborhood and walk to the area. Nevertheless... Great park once you find it. There is a an area for little dogs and a separate area for big dogs. I'm not a regular, but each time love gone... I've met well socialized dogs and owners. Everyone is considerate and only once did I see some poo not cleaned up...ie conscientious, responsible owners. I now have taken my new pup and still having a great experience thank you Clayton.

Google map will tell you "you have arrived" when you are on the main road (Clayton road/marsh creek), but the park itself is inaccessible from the main road. We took the first next turn after Google maps alerted us, parked on the street, walked on the trail path for a short distance and found the dog park. There were only one dog with one owner when we first got there and my dog had fun playing (Nice dog and owner!). After they left, we walked the trail for 2.5 miles then came back and more dogs - yay!! My puppy had a blast playing with all the dogs as all the dogs he met were nice. Also, nice owners! Everyone was "Claytonians" that live near by. I asked them if this dog park doesn't have a lot of visitors and they confirmed that most of the times there are only a few dogs or none. I hope more nice visitors would frequent this dog park so I can come here more often with my puppy as it's such a nice dog park/area! This park is good for shy dogs I guess (my puppy is not at all shy - he's the opposite). We will be back, but maybe just not as frequently until the dog park gets more dogs visitors.

It has many things to…read morerecommend it, and yet it has been ages since I've been there - maybe I'm guilty of the "grass is always greener" syndrome. But finally, my wife and I returned on the recent Sunday and were reacquainted with all it has to offer. It's a good park for walking: there's a flat, dirt path that circles the park; I didn't measure it, but it's a decent length, especially if you make multiple rounds. Along the way you see the park has a large bocce ball court, a popular dog park, and a good sized hill for cardio purposes with the Concord Vietnam Memorial on the top. A weekend adult soccer game was going on in the middle of the field. On the other side of the park is a pond (we saw an egret, ducks and geese), and a marsh-like area with tons of cattails. Galindo Creek, heavily shaded with trees, borders the edge of the park. A number of benches let you take a break when you need it from your walk. Newhall Park is a little rough around the edges visually. There's none of the graceful elegance of a Walnut Creek Larkey Park, with its paved path, lush green grass and stately trees. Newhall's grassy areas are functional, but look beat up with numerous dead spots (maybe blame the soccer). The walking path is hard dirt, but can be messy after a rain. The parking lot also is unpaved, and is in poor condition with bumps and holes. We noticed a number of cars parked along Turtle Creek Road prior to the park entrance. But these are minor concerns. In the uber-populated East Bay, any park is a welcome break from wall-to-wall homes, stores and concrete. Newhall Park is an easy way to get out and breathe the fresh air, and deserves the popularity it enjoys. That Walnut Creek park may have greener grass, but sometimes that park down the street is all we need.

It was neat in that there were historical building(s), a cemetery, and different parts of mines in addition to the natural landscape, plants, and animals to observe. I visited a few different times in 2018 plus or minus a year. One time I brought my friend Jinsol along and another time I brought family (my mom and dad). The park volunteers/workers were friendly when we encountered them. We appreciated the map(s) of the park, it helped with exploring. Some sites were more readily identifiable than others. My mom had difficulty on some of the steeper trails, though my dad faired well. Some parts of the mines had information displayed though were not open on my visits. One of my visits was during a heat wave, while the remainder were during relatively average weather conditions. Shade was sparse, though present, during the heat wave. Even in the shade however, the heat seemed to spread. On a different occasion I slipped and fell on a pathway that had a small section that was temporarily dominantly mud. A place requiring my full attention for traversing the trail system.
