Yesterday, my husband took our kids to the dentist, where they have been patients for close to 5 years. However, our daughter had become increasingly anxious about going and no longer enjoyed it., which is understandable since going to the dentist isn't fun for most people. At the dentist's office, parents aren't allowed to accompany their kids during appointments (which I wasn't a fan of). Nonetheless, since our older son was with her, we decided to go along with it. Our daughter voiced her concerns about getting fluoride treatment due to its taste and texture making her feel sick; therefore as her parents, we made an informed decision not get it this time around. Upon arrival, my husband checked in both children and let them know that our daughter wouldn't be receiving fluoride treatment. They took the kids back to begin their cleaning. At some point the hygientist tells the dentist that we declined the fluoride treatment for our daughter and why, he tells her to see if she will try a different fluoride but NOONE came out to talk to my husband to see if that would be ok (MISTAKE #1) the hygienist then asks my daughter if she will try this other fluoride, she says no. The hygienist then continues to try to talk her into it and pursued her which is then causing her to get upset, rightfully so. When her attempts fail she gets the other hygienist to make an attempt so now there are 2 adult women trying to convince a child to try something that her father had said no to and that she had said no to ( MISTAKE #2) all of this caused our son anger and he finally spoke up and said "she said no. Stop" only then did they stop and one of them looks at our son and says "I'm sorry don't be mad at me" and then asks "is your sister just sensitive" upon bringing the kids out they simply tell my husband that they asked our daughter if she wanted to try the other fluoride and she got upset so they didn't do it the rest wasnt learned until later when our son told us what really happened. When I found out about this, the office was already closed so I called first thing this morning to voice my concerns and let them know I was pulling my kids from that dentist because of it. The office manager was very apologetic and assured me she'd discuss this with everyone and asked if I'd be ok with the Dentist calling me. I said yes. The dentist later calls me but honestly did not help the situation. Though he did apologize it felt like he also tried to justify the incident by comparing it to when parents get their kids to try vegetables because it's good for them and also told me how great his hygienist are. I told him we wouldn't be back because of the situation which also doesn't seem like it will be addressed. The dentist then tells me if we ever need to come back in the future they would be happy to take care of us and I don't need to feel embarrassed. It was at this moment where I just ended the call. I say all of this to say when a child says No regarding their body in anyway at all that's final the conversation ends there. Period. read more

Wow - What a great experience. From initial scheduling from the moment we walked in, the entire staff was wonderful. My kids were excited to be there (the office setup is perfect for kids). The entire staff was patient, and Dr. Clay was very thorough and informative. Highly recommend​ for kids. read more

Very fancy looking practice, Dr.Goins knows what he is doing and he is a nice guy...no surprises here. He has done allot of work for us....however the follow thru and communication from he and staff are in need of some help. It seems you must make 2-3 office appointments for everything. They can never do the recommended work in the same visit... Even when they were planning for it. More visits = more hassle and more opportunities for Clay and his staff to drop the ball...wich they have done in my case to many times.. Oh And If you think your going to get a convenient and efficient appointment up on Signal Mountain guess again, that is where this practice needs to improve the most. If your up on Signal Mt, North Chatt. or Hixson this office of Pediatric Dentists are difinatly not worth the drive for the overall experience we have received. Save your precious time and the mess of Gun Barrel for mall shopping on a rainy day. read more

Friendly environment and nice office for children. I didn't like that I couldn't go back with my daughter she's 4 years old. Also surgery was rescheduled 3 times due to paperwork not being sent to insurance. We'd still be patients there if things went smoothly but u can only beat around so many bushes before u throw in the towel. No one likes the run around. read more

I would recommend steering clear of this practice. My son not well taken care of here. Unfortunately, I feel that this practice recommends unnecessary dental procedures. I have talked to at least three other families with similar experiences. My son was not even two years old when he had multiple procedures performed at once, in office, which Dr. Goins's own staff member admitted was not a good idea. Luckily my son was young enough he doesn't remember it. Very cute and inviting office that makes kids feel comfortable. However, I feel the care is not as nice as the fish tank and train. read more

By far the best dentist around!! I wouldn't take my children anywhere else. The staff is excellent and Dr. Clay is a joy! You can tell they all love their jobs and do whatever they can to make the children comfortable. Since we started going here, my son begs to go to the dentist, it's not dreaded. My one year olds first visit was a breeze and They do their best to bond with them. Love this place! Plus their office is so much fun! They have a salt water tank, treehouse, video games, a train, and another playroom in the back. read more

If you are looking for a pediatric dentist, Dr. Clay Goins is one of the best around Chattanooga. He is technically sound, very professional and always makes time for the children (and their parents). The staff at Children's Dentistry are super sweet, punctual and knowledgeable. The waiting area is extraordinarily kid friendly with books, toys, a Lego table, a giant saltwater tank, video games, a peek-a-boo tree to explore and fun movies to watch. As an adult, I enjoy the comfortable chairs, the fact that the movies are at a low volume and that my kids are entertained. They have been sending appointment e-mails for a dead client for two years. I have called them four times. They are inept.

This review is in regards to the billing of the dental work and not the dentist himself. While the work was very good and the kids had a good experience the office management was a nightmare. The only reason I give it one star is because Dr. Goins was a good dentist. I am in the military and was away on deployment when my wife brought my kids in for dental work. This wasn't the first time we've been here and never had issues in the past. Recently, since the last visit, the Department of Defense changed our dental insurance. Before the kids got the dental work done my wife asked the front desk if the work would be covered under the new insurance policy. The front desk looked at the new policy (United Concordia) and told my wife it "shouldn't be a problem". A few weeks later we got a bill in the mail for $356.30. My wife called the number on the bill to find out why we were being charged and the office manager, Dana, was very nice to her on the phone and promised to find out what the disconnect was and get back to her. A week went by and no follow on call from Dana. My wife called again and Dana was unavailable. This happened for over a week. When I returned home from deployment another bill came in the mail with a fee making the payment due, $365.34. I called this time and explained the situation to Dana again. She remembered talking to my wife. She explained to me that since our insurance changed it was our responsibility to find out if the dentist was covered by United Concordia. I told her that my wife asked that exact question at the desk BEFORE the work was done. Dana told me that when the girl at the desk said it, "shouldn't be a problem" she was not being dishonest. However, United Concordia would only cover a fraction of the dental work. I told Dana that if we would have known that we wouldn't have gotten the dental work done and that we feel greatly deceived. Dana, again, replied that while she sympathizes, it isn't the dentist's responsibility by law to give us that information. While she may be legally correct, I told her that was a very poor business practice. She told me that she would talk to Dr. Goins, who was on vacation at the time of the call, and see if they would be able to cover the cost of the bill or come up with some solution to make both parties happy. She said she would call back the following Monday. When I didn't receive a call the following Monday (big surprise) I called the office. Dana was conveniently indisposed and so I left a message to call me with the reason for the call. She never returned my call. I have received another bill in the meantime. At this point it looks like the constant back and forth with zero expectations of follow-ups with the office is not worth my time and energy. Congratulations Children's Dentistry of Chattanooga on your victory of $356.30! While I would have recommended this office to anyone who needed a pediatric dentist, my recent experiences with office management and Dana have convinced me not to recommend them to anyone. Hopefully the business finds office management that actually cares about its customers in the future and when there is confusion, puts some effort in making sure the customer understands all of their patient responsibilities to include insurance. THAT would be a good business model to go by. read more

I took my daughter, (almost three year old) in for a toothache and cleaning, she was scared and wasn't very cooperative and all of the staff were so sweet to her and patient. Dr. Clay is so good with children, he is definitely in the right profession! I was so surprised that she warmed up to him and let him do the exam and fluoride treatment. We went in as a new patient and will definitely be returning with her siblings! read more

Dr. Goins is my children's dentist and he's wonderful. Love that they now have an office on Signal. Saw Dr. Sawrie yesterday and my children love her too! Office staff is always helpful and super friendly. read more
