Reno / Sparks has become a great place to find really good Indian food. I had heard of Clay Oven for a while, the original located in a gas station of all places. It is only take-out . It is popular with an acquaintance of mine. So when I drove by this location in Victorian Square that name struck a bell and sure enough it's one in same. My friends and I arrived early for dinner on a Saturday night and we were glad we did because the restaurant began to fill up shortly after. Our waiter was very welcoming and led us through the menu and really spent time explaining it. It's a very broad menu with so much to choose from. We all were excited to try this place for a while now and it will prove itself. The three of us each chose a dish and shared them around the table. We began with the Samosa Plate. Two pastries filled with potatoes and peas, they were done in a chickpea and tamarind sauce, very tasty ; but we wished there was one more. So , my brave friend Jim chose Goat Curry, which I was skeptical of , Not a meat I'm at all familiar with, but what the heck, being adventurous here. His wife Marty chose a favorite of hers, Palak Paneer and I chose Butter Chicken. As we passed each around the table and piled on the fluffy basmati rice we began tasting each and we were finding everything to be delicious. I'll admit that my first try of the goat wasn't a Yummy moment but I did try another bite again later. The flavors of the other two dishes were perfect though. We also ordered garlic Naan which in my opinion could have been more garlicky but it was fluffy and good. The interior is very subtle in decor, but nice. I would suggest some art on the walls, maybe some of the beautiful colors found in India, but that's only my observation as an amateur interior designer. Our waiter continued to provide good service and all of us left the restaurant saying how much we liked it and would definitely return. I've been wanting to try the restaurant because I've had the food truck and loved it. I took my girlfriend who's never had Indian food and not only was the food incredible, our server, Arun was so friendly and took the time to explain EVERYTHING with great detail and knowledge. We got there pretty late and they didn't make us feel rushed. They actually did the opposite and took the time to recommend items based on my dietary restrictions. We started with the Samosa Plate app and shared the Taj Mahal Lager as it was a 24oz bottle. Entrees were the Butter Chicken and Karahi Paneer! All of it was fantastic! We needed to try something new, and we'll be returning (hopefully with a bus load of friends, it's that good). Arun (I hope I'm spelling that right) greeted us with honest hospitality. He was very helpful with the menu and some of the imported beers from India. We started with chicken tikka and garlic naan bread. It was sooo good. All the perfectly blended spices on large chunks of chicken breast cooked grilled in their clay oven. I'll never visit without ordering this. It's a must have. That was a meal in itself, but we had already ordered the lamb curry as our entrée, it was seasoned perfectly and over rice it was delightful. We ordered another plain naan bread, and though it wasn't as enjoyable as the garlic, it was very good. We ended up with leftovers. There was so much food. Whether you try it for lunch or dinner, I don't think you'll be disappointed. The selection is huge, both vegetarian and all the meats from fish and poultry to lamb and goat, and let's not forget the beef. They stock a nice selection of domestic and imported brews along with a full bar. This would be a fun place to take a large crew so you can try all the different selections. If you are a fan of Butter Chicken, I highly recommend Clay Oven. There's the creamiest I've tasted yet--just the perfect combination of creamy, sweet, and spicy. My server helped guide me to try a new-to-me spicy chicken dish. I did order it too hot, and he was more than accommodating by asking the kitchen to re-fire it. The inside and decor are inviting. Amazing food!! Wonderful service!! Authentic Indian food and the spices are so delicious. Basmati rice perfectly cooked. I had ordered a dish medium which ended up being a little too spicy, the waiter was so sweet and hooked us up with some mango lassis to cool our tastebuds down as he saw me struggling a little bit. The food was definitely better this time around. Apparently my spice level is the highest. Last time it wasn't spicy so I upped my game and went for the hottest with a side of Raita as a backup. The Raita looked a little different from what I'm used to but the flavor was there. The chicken tikka masala was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very good. My daughter and her boyfriend wanted me to try Clay Oven at Victorian Square so we went for an early dinner last night. I love Indian food and it smelled amazing when we walked in so always a good sign. There was only one other occupied table when we got there. But we were promptly greeted and seated and waters and menus arrived immediately. The place has a full bar inside and lots of TVs throughout. I ordered the palak paneer (my favorite) ay medium spice and it was delicious. Lots of paneer and a rich sauce that wasn't overly creamy. Perfect blend of spices. My daughter had paneer butter masala and her bf had butter chicken. Both raved about their dishes. All three entrees came with rice so always a plus for me to not have to buy separately. And, even offered us more rice during the meal. We also shared two orders of garlic Naan. Light and airy and crispy, exactly how I like it. They didn't skimp on the butter or garlic either. Perfection. The service was great, our waiter was efficient and checked in on us and kept our waters filled. I really dont know why this place wasnt more packed on a Sunday afternoon but I know we will be returning and often! Please check this place out. Easy parking access, too. read more

I order the vegetable pakora, goat biryani, nan, and Kheer. I wanted to try a new place in town. First bite everything was heavily seasoned. The Pakoras first bite was flavorful and crispy. The Biryani was super salty. I didn't end up eating more than 2 bites of each as I found a long black hair fried into my pakora. Ended up throwing everything away after that. But heads up, chicken is bone in and there were little pieces of bone you had to be careful with. Price is average with all the other restaurants but I'd say the portion is smaller. 1000000/10! Seriously!!! From the moment we got there, we felt welcomed and it got even better after that! Our server was Arun, he was the best server we've had, ever! So sweet, very helpful! Made sure we were extremely happy with everything we got! Always took the time to explain the menu if we had any questions. Just absolutely greattttt! And the bartender was the sweetest too, she came by a couple times to help and it was truly a pleasure! Now, more about the food! Everything was made to order so he always checked up on us and let us know just a few mins more but we love that because we knew it was going to be fresh! We got the appetizer sampler, and it was mouth watering from the second we looked at it but that wasn't alllll it tasted absolutely phenomenal! Best Indian cuisine in town. Stopped by with friends, place opened a few months back. Three of us enjoyed dinner here recently. We tried tandoori salmon. Opinions on this dish were divided. The lamb tikka masala was a hit with the meat-eater in our party. We tried several kinds of naan, and all were good. The spinach dish was the most popular item. It looks like creamed spinach, and the flavor was delicious! The raita had good flavor but it was a bit thin. One person in our party ordered an Indian beer, and really liked it. The ambience is pleasant and the service was good. The ladies' room needs some work in order to make it truly accessible and ADA compliant. Pay attention to the lay-out of the parking lot. There is only one real entrance/exit. This is the 2nd location of Clay Oven! They have the one on Kietzke Lane, but this one is next to the Nugget. This place is huge! You can have big parties here. The foods are delicious and amazing. Probably the best chef in town, without any doubt, works at this location. Sish kabab, tandoori kabab, biriyani, naan, vindaloo, pakora, taco, wrap, tikka, and whatnot- all of these are their signature dishes! Fantastic service! read more

My favorite Indian place in town : D. I regularly order from their original location. Went here for the sit-down to have some food with family. You know and love the OG location. Come give the new one a try! They were closed due to construction but they let us in and served us anyways. Thank you. I had the butter chicken, mango lassi, and some rice. They didn't have halwa :(. Butter chicken has that same rich flavor you've come to expect from Clay Oven Indian Cuisine. Rich, slightly sweet, and spicy with sous vide chicken (I believe). The mango lassi had the right amount of yogurt in it. It had a slight hint of sour to it. The yogurt improved the texture of the drink and made the flavor slightly more complex. Far better than mango lassi I've had at other places : ). I also noticed that there was no place to tip on the receipt. I can't find any info. I'm not sure if they take tips or not. Ambiance, on the low end of Indian restaurants. Service is okay, not great and not bad. This is my second time at this location. Ordered shrimp curry. Cook destroyed the shrimp - so over cooked they could not be cut with a knife. They were good enough to take 50% off the shrimp. Needless to say I will not be back. Clay Oven on Victorian in Sparks is the best Indian food in town. Went there for the first time today, I learned they've been open for 8 months, and had a great meal with my gf. Our server was incredibly polite and kind and made sure everything we ordered agrees with our palates and offered to make any adjustments to ensure we were satisfied. We needed none and enjoyed everything. My girl got a paneer dish and I got lamb tikka. Both awesome. Great large piece of garlic nan as well. I also ordered an ice cold mango lassi and the lady got a hot chai. They do have a full bar with many options and beers, both foreign and domestic. We will most definitely be returning and we are so excited we found a GOOD Indian restaurant. Please support these guys and make them last.
