    Pep Boys - Waiting room

    Pep Boys

    Bayside

I had a Kafka-esque, surreal experience at the Pep Boys in Bayside NY (204-11 Northern Blvd, 11361)…read moreon April 18 2026. My bottom line is that it's OK for people to go there for tires or a battery but not anything else, thank you. Here's the back story: I had been at this Pep Boys twice before with no problem - once for tires and once for spark plugs. I have a 2011 Honda Pilot. On April 18 I made an appointment for two oil leaks, the "VTEC Solenoid" and valve cover gasket. Showed up at 9 a.m. as planned to drop off the car. Talked to the guy up front, explained that I was there for two oil leak repairs. He ordered the parts on the phone. Said it would be a five hour job once they get the parts. Not a cheap job - well over $1,000. He said car would probably be ready mid-afternoon. I said I'm not staying and will come back. Here's where things started to go weird. About a half out later I get an email from Pep Boys stating "Let's Reschedule Your Appointment." I thought 'That's strange' but didn't worry about it. And, went home. Around 1pm I thought it would be a good idea to go back to Pep Boys. When I got there around 1:30 sat down in the waiting room. The same manager who I talked to in the morning is running back and forth from the garage to the front desk. We make eye contact. Around 3 pm I'm thinking what's up with the car. I look in the work area and my car is not there. Maybe it's finished I think. I circle around the building, however, and my car is still parked in the same spot outside where I left it in the morning. Curious, I go inside and speak to the same manager again. I ask what's up with the car? He says they are still waiting for one part. Wow. They never called me on my cell to inform me there was a delay in getting a part. He never said a word when spotting me in the waiting room. It's now almost 3pm and even if they get the part, if it's really a five hour job, there's no way it's going to get done that day. He must realize that too but says nothing. Now the place was very busy doing tires and whatever else. I can understand juggling things can be difficult. Maybe they were so busy they didn't have time to handle the oil leak job. If that's the case, just tell me in the morning or at some point. But not to say anything is really rude and unprofessional. I basically wasted my whole day and left with two oil leaks unrepaired (one near the alternator which was the bigger problem). Did I yet at the manager? No. I felt sorry for him. Just asked for my keys and left. Do not go there unless it is an emergency.

I've came here for my last four oil changes. I usually have to wait about 2hrs or more even with an…read moreappointment. I got my wheels rotated and balanced. They threw off my alignment. Didn't make a big deal about it. Made an appointment for an oil change. Brought the car, they told me they couldn't accept my car for an oil change cause they are busy. In the meantime you see two techs sitting around in their phone. Why take the appointments if you can't honor it? My times too valuable for this. Go to Valvoline oil change on northern. Awsome service. In and out within 15mins without an appointment!!

You could not ask for a better service station for your vehicle. I started using Danny's Auto Care…read morein September, 2016, basically to find out if I should keep my 2003 Toyota Matrix or have it fixed. Danny's was the second shop I brought it to for an opinion. His opinion was the same as their first shop. On that very same day I got a call from a friend, whose friend was selling her 2010 Corolla. I asked Danny what he thought, drove to Freeport, checked it out, drove back to Danny's, he checked it, and said I got a very good buy. He fixed a few things, I wanted new tires and voilà, I got a good deal. I trust him very much, and his prices are great! He's very easy to deal with and he has a great personality, which I find to be very important. You can't go wrong with Danny's!

We brought our Ford Transit in for a checkup because we were having issues with the throttle body…read more We specifically asked them to inspect the throttle body, but they never looked at it. Instead, they simply plugged the vehicle into a diagnostic scanner and told us the engine was misfiring. We already knew the vehicle had a misfire. Any basic scan tool can identify a misfire within minutes. The problem is that they never investigated the issue we asked them to check. To make matters worse, they charged us $320 for what appeared to be nothing more than a quick scan. A Ford dealership charges around $250 for a full diagnostic inspection. We were never informed of the cost beforehand and were not given approval options before the charge was applied. We ended up calling the police because we felt the charge was unreasonable. The officer told us that we should have been informed of the cost in advance and even provided documentation for the DMV regarding the overcharge. This was one of the most disappointing service experiences we've ever had. We felt misled, overcharged, and ignored. I would not recommend this shop to anyone looking for honest and thorough automotive service. STAY AWAY I even video recorded all of our conversations because the owner was so ridiculous!!!!!!!
