I ordered a calzone and breaded boneless chicken wings for pickup here tonight. The broccoli, artichoke, and spinach calzone was tasty and gooey inside but it would have been better if fresh broccoli florets had been used instead of seemingly-frozen broccoli cuts. The boneless chicken wings were quite bland, not even as juicy as McNuggets. The order took a little longer than expected because one of the ovens was broken but the staff maintained good cheer during my wait. Well, I definitely don't understand the hype over these breadsticks lol. I liked that you can just get 5 of them, so I bought an order of all three kinds. All were underwhelming. They were kind of hard and not bready and very thin; not at all what I expected from these rave reviews! I loved that two types of dip are included with each order of breadsticks, though. Classic Pizza has a devout following here in Dexter where there are probably more pizza places per capita than any other town in Michigan. I like Classic because it's not as greasy as others. They have daily specials and you can find their coupons at their website. This is my favorite pizza place in Dexter. Not a dine-in place but I love their thin crust pizza. The dough is just right!

This was a really bad experience. Had to wait quite a bit for our order, but that wasn't the problem. While waiting, I watched one of the workers make our salad with un-gloved hands. When he brought it to me I told him I didn't want it. The manager asked why and I told him that he didn't use gloves to make it, he kind of argued with me, and even though I said I didn't want it and just wanted my money back they insisted on re-making it. While they used gloves this time, he did not wash his hands before putting gloves on and many of the ingredients of the salad came from the pizza line which does not require use of gloves because of the high temperatures used in cooking the pizzas, so items from it can not be used for any ready-to-eat menu items. This is a very serious health code violation. We took the salad home and threw it out. I'll also note that we requested the pizzas be cooked well done...and they were not. While I can overlook the miss on the doneness of the pizza I can't overlook the food safety lapses, as a child or someone with a compromised immune system could become seriously ill. We have been regular (nearly weekly), long-time customers, but will not be back. read more

I ordered a carry out, came in to pick it up and ended up waiting an additional 15 minutes after the initial ready time they told me to come in. While I waited for my pizza I heard the employees in a normal talking voice degrading black people, mexicans, and make fun of customers handicapped children and people with addiction problems who are regulars to the place. My pizza finally was ready and I couldn't get out of there more quickly. I decided to give the place another chance. I like to support a local business.I ordered another pickup came in and as before ended waiting a bit and heard the employees yet again making fun of handicap/disabled people, asian people, remarks towards degrading woman.Just incredible rude and uncalled for. We're going based on the breadstixs alone. It's very hit or miss--as others had mentioned, sometimes they are awesome then sometimes they are very dry/overbaked. Just depends on the day! Hard to want to go back when you don't get the product to taste the same every time. I will also agree-the staff always seem too busy to help or answer questions. It's off the beaten path of downtown Dexter so make sure you don't pass it by--it's small & off a side street! The pizza is good. I appreciate that they have fresh mushrooms, instead of only offering canned. It's not a really thick bread pizza which is good in my opinion and I really like the flavor. The breadsticks are terrible. Flavorless, always over cooked and hard. The salads are awful - wilted, brown, cheap ingredients. They charge an additional fee for using a credit card, which I find unacceptable for such large totals. I have often not gone for this reason - if I don't have cash or my checkbook with me, I'll go to Jets, Cottage Inn, or takeout from Aubree's where they don't tack on that fee. read more

How did I forget to rate Classic Pizza?! Classic has been our go-to carry-out pizza place for several years now. Their pies are reliably tasty, well-covered with toppings, and, as others noted here, not greasy. The core staff is always cool - friendly, efficient, and helpful. They have a regular turnover of younger staff, so I'm never surprised to see a new face learning the ropes. I've never had a bad experience at Classic, really. The only criticism I'd offer is on their pricing. It's kind of opaque. Coupons are applied to "regular" prices, but, as far as I can tell, I've never paid a "regular" price. Our standard pizza order is priced 25% higher in their web site than what I am charged every time I call in. Confusing - please fix this! I've had experiences ordering from Classic Pizza that were very frustrating. The person taking the orders always seems too busy to get the order correct. The check out system seems very confusing to the employees and a manager usually has to step in. As far as the quality of the product goes I wish they could keep the pizza in the oven a bit longer since they are never quite done, I'm sure many people in Dexter love this pizza but it gets only three stars from me. read more

It changed owners, and I think the business has declined since. Here's why: 1) Food is noticably worse- skimping on toppings, poor quality ingredients, etc. 2) The service is not always reliable 3) Dexter had about 4 more pizza places open in town (restaurants, pizzerias) 4) Staff is young teenagers who don't keep to a health code (I saw a man not wearing a shirt, walking around behind the counter. I am not a big pizza eater, but when I do order pizza its from Classic, because they are two blocks from my house and I can walk the dog down there to pick up. Never have been disappointed. The pizza is well made and good value. They have been in business about 20-30 years, so they must be doing things right. We ordered a large (18") pizza, salad, and breadsticks. The biggest problem with the meal was the pizza. It was very undercooked with a lot of the crust just being raw dough. We ended up throwing about 1/2 of it out. There was nothing great about the breadsticks and salad, but they were at least edible. read more

This place has been in Dexter since we move here back 20 years ago. We have eaten their pizza's for many sporting events and every Friday when the kids were younger. For years we got the same thing pepperoni pizza take out special with bread sticks which I would rate 4 or 5 stars. Recently we tried some of their special pizza's, the taco (1 star) was terrible and they forgot the lettuce and tomatoe toppings, the bacon cheese burger was ok (3 stars). Bread sticks are the best. So overall 3 stars due to the variation in their pizzas. I will go back many times and stick with the pepperoni...... Also, I factor service into the rating. 50% of the time the bread sticks or salad are not ready when we pick up the pizza. Last night the salad wasn't ready (I can't figure that out), and the time before the bread stick order went in the oven when I arrived (pizza was ready). The owner gave me a $3 coupon for waiting. We like the pizza there a lot. We used to get Cottage Inn but now generally get this instead. The deep dish isn't as good as Cottage Inn but the regular is better. 5 stars for the food and -1 star for being late; it isn't uncommon for carry out to take 10-15 mins longer than they told me. read more
