I've taken my vehicles here quite a few times over the years for the stuff that was too complex for me to repair or diagnose myself, and they've always gone above and beyond. Definitely the shop I've referred family and friends to as well, they know their stuff and aren't afraid of honesty. I know they normally service cars much nicer than our Outback and 4Runner, but the quality and intentionality they bring regardless of make and model has been greatly appreciated. They stand behind their repairs, and try to be as up front as possible about all the costs involved, making sure to only move forward on the repairs we've agreed to. My car's engine has been destroyed by faulty work conducted by this shop. They initially told me that its heating & cooling assembly needed to be replaced. After they made these repairs, it broke down after I drove less than 100 miles because the coolant crossover pipe and thermostat were both leaking. They made repairs, but then it broke down again after I drove it less than 2K miles because the water pump was leaking. Unfortunately, the repairs still weren't done right because the second water pump failed--but this time, my car overheated and blew a head gasket. Thanks to this shop, I've gone for weeks on end without a car, been stranded at the side of the road twice, and now I have an undriveable and unsellable car that never had any mechanical issues before they touched it. Unless you can afford to lose $15K and waste weeks of time, find a different auto repair shop. read more

On a trip to New Buffalo, my oil light came on. Panicky, I pulled off Rt. 12 and into Classic Imports. I only Had to say "my oil light just went on" and one of the guys at the counter jumped up to be of assistance. He asked if he could start the car and quickly determined that the oil level was just a bit low and offered to add whatever was needed to bring it back up. Sure enough, he was right. My car started to overheat on my way back to Chicago. I ended up having my car towed to this place and leaving it here while I got a ride back to Chicago. I thought I would have them fix it and I'd pick it up in a few days. Before I brought my car in I explained what was going on and the mechanic said he was very familiar with the problem and it is common on my year and make and it would probably be around $1100. After my car was towed in their service tech (sales/customer service guy) called me. He sounded like a guy you would not want to piss off. He got my info and sent me an email with subject line reading "autherization" form. I had to sign this form that basically said you will owe us a $150.00 if you don't get car fixed here and we are not responsible for any lost or damaged stuff in car. This was a very handy form they had me sign. After he got the signed form. He explained to me that it was what they originally thought it was and the price is going to be $1,632.32 and additional work needs to be done and we will give you a great deal blablabla $2600 blabla. He did not give me any real explanation on why it overheated and just tried to upsell me right away. After thinking it over and making some calls I tried to negotiate a deal. He said this is not goodwill or a flea market. I discovered other mechanics in the area charge $72.00 per hour. The BMW dealership said they would charge a $100.00 per hour (I have a 2006 so easier to work on) and do this job in 3.6 hours. They charge $145.00 per hour and quoted me 5 hours to do the job. This place =O V E R P R I C E D with A T T I T U D E and.... they charge labor tax and service tax on top of that!! He reminded me that YOU WILL pay the $150.00 if don't have the work done here. We did not come to an agreement. I think he though my business was a slam dunk because of situation I was in. He seemed pretty pissed when I said I will be taking my business elsewhere. He said something like I won't be able to get this type of job done anywhere else. He said I owed him $160.00 for the diagnosis. I wasn't going to argue about the extra $10.00. He said $150.00 originally. At this point I didn't want him to trash my car or anything. When I got my car back all my belongings in trunk were gone including dirty laundry that was scattered in my trunk!? My CDs and other personal belongings inside were also gone. It could of been the tow truck guy but why would he take dirty laundry? read more

I am so very disappointed with Classic Imports. They have been the sole mechanics on my Mercedes Benzes for 20 years. After a $500 + repair bill that DID NOT repair a problem they charged me another $150 to tell me that they could NOT repair the problem. I would give them zero stars if I could. read more

I have driven Mercedes-Benz for over 35 years and when I moved to the Michiana area full time, I needed a good repair shop to keep my vehicles in great shape. Mikail Pinette, the founder and owner, and Brandon Pinette, his son, have been extremely conscientious and diligent of my cars that I have brought in. Normally I would go to the Dealer to have my car serviced, but Chicago or South Bend is a long way to go for servicing...but this shop is just as good. They are not cheap, though less expensive than the dealerships, and they are up to date with all the new technology and they definitely know imports! They have done everything from basic maintenance to major repairs and they shuttle me home and back for when I have to leave the car. I highly recommend this shop. read more

The Good: Got us right in for an oil change minutes after we arrived. Minimal up-sell aside from shocks but weren't too pushy. The Bad: Took 75 minutes to do a conventional oil change which I've seen done on the same car in under 10 minutes (we were the only people getting service done). Charged $73.68 for conventional oiI change (at least 2x times any national chain). I didn't expect the process to be smooth given I was a prime candidate to be taken advantage of, just know what to expect when you are from out of town. read more

I like this place, the owner and the people who work there. They are a specialty shop of sorts, concentrating on higher end cars and European cars. They aren't the cheapest around but anyone owning the kind of cars they work on should realize that sevice can be expensive. They have done good work, in a timely manner and at what I consider to be a reasonable rate. They are insured and bonded and I'm comfortable with leaving my nice rides in their capabable hands. read more

Called in to get a estimate for a brake job and was told they couldn't give me an estimate over the phone and that I would have to bring it in and they could give me a estimate. I brought the car in and dropped it off telling him exactly what I said and was told over the phone by the woman I previously talked to. They called me back with a estimate three times what I had been quoted from a different repair shop and Subaru. I told them it was too high and I would just come pick it up. When I went to pick it up they also handed me a near 80 dollar bill for the estimate. No mention of any charge just for the estimate whatsoever from anyone on the phone or in person when I dropped it off. I have dealt with numerous mechanics in my near 40 years on earth but the shadiness of this felt like the worst I have experienced to date. Its a shame they treat the people of this small community so poorly. Total scam!!! read more

I used to bring my cars to Classic when it was with the prior owner, Don. In the last year or two there has been a change of ownership that has brought a new customer service strategy - screw the customer if you can. My wife has brought her range rover into Classic twice in the past six months. The first time after a number of repairs she was told that in addition she needed a new air filter and oil change even though both were done at the dealership two months prior. The last misgiving was when her battery was dead due to a plugged in appliance. The service truck came out, jumped the battery, and she drove back to the service station. At the station she restarted the vehicles a couple times without problems. They took the vehicle into the service bay and said that it would not start and recommended a battery replacement. The old battery, after numerous requests, was left with the vehicle. When brought back to the Chicago dealership it was tested and found to be fine. New ownership's strategy is to rip off any customer that does not have automotive knowledge. Buyer beware. read more
